00:00Because you were there with that last group, and so we had, it really felt like three people were relevant
00:06to the story of Sunday at Shinnecock Hills.
00:08It was, of course, Wyndham and Scotty in that final group together, even though Scotty ended up kind of falling
00:12off the pace.
00:13And it was, of course, Sam Burns playing alongside Keith Mitchell, getting it to three under.
00:18Purdy looks at 17 and 18 that are very makeable for a putter of his caliber and ends up coming
00:23up short and showing a lot of motion after.
00:25So just kind of take us through step by step, and we'll stop down and talk about specific items before
00:30we kind of dig into some bigger picture items, the course, the fans, things like that.
00:34Well, I was on the call for Scotty all day, so just called his shots, and before the day and
00:40that first tee time got going, spoke briefly with his agent and wanted to ask really is, like, what did
00:47they find after that Thursday round?
00:49Because he's really been hitting the golf ball well, and he said it's always in his hands.
00:53Like, it's nothing ever, like, super technical.
00:55It's always something in his hands.
00:57That was that grip stuff you saw with Randy Smith in the range.
00:59I'm like, it almost frustrated me.
01:02Like, it's just like, you know, it's just all in the hands.
01:04I'm just thinking, like, you sure it wasn't, like, five other things?
01:09Because, like, that's, as, like, a golfer myself, I was kind of hoping to hear, it's like, well, he needed
01:14to take it a little bit back more inside, get it a little bit more here at the top, clear
01:18the hips,
01:18also get the right shoulder down, and then hold the face through the shot.
01:22I was kind of hoping for something like that to make me feel better about my own game.
01:26It's just all in the hands.
01:27Sure.
01:28Sure.
01:29Okay.
01:29Is that sort of like a Barry Bonds thing in a way?
01:33Like, I always hear the stories about it.
01:34It's a Tiger thing.
01:35Tiger, like, he's very much of, like, feels it in the hands.
01:39Like, that's, yeah.
01:40A Tiger Woods, a Barry Bonds thing.
01:42I say Barry Bonds because there's that great story about him as a hitting coach of the Marlins,
01:46and, you know, guys are asking for insight, and he's like, you just hit the inside of the ball.
01:50They're like, what?
01:51Like, how is that supposed to help?
01:52And for, it kind of sounds that way with Scotty Shepard where it's, hey, just all in the hands.
01:56Like, yeah, that might make sense to you as maybe the most gifted golfer since Tiger Woods,
02:00but for the rest of us, we need a little bit more information.
02:02It's fun to watch him hit golf shots, man.
02:05Like, I stand behind him and am just amazed at what he's able to do with the golf ball.
02:11Now, I think today there was a couple key mistakes that Scotty had that started on the first hole.
02:17He took a club that was a little bit too conservative, and I can understand why they pulled,
02:24I think it was maybe a five iron off the first tee.
02:27First off, it makes the fairway massive.
02:29But the second part is that if you're watching earlier in the day,
02:32you'd have seen that there was an opportunity to try to throw it back to that back left hole location.
02:36It was soft enough, and you saw plenty of players, like, spinning it back,
02:40and you were winning it on a little bit of a downslope.
02:43And so, I was thinking that was going to be one of the more challenging hole locations on that green,
02:48but I'm sitting there watching, I'm like, guys are making birdies left and right.
02:52And so, when I get with my group and Scotty, and I see him, you know, I think he had
02:56163,
02:57and he's like 40 yards back behind Wyndham Clark.
03:01And doing the math and thinking, okay, pitching wedge is what he pulled, 153 is the cover.
03:07It's going to be kind of laying on a downslope, and the wind was down off the left.
03:11And he was getting about 10 yards of help, and I felt like a pitching wedge was a club
03:16that was going to take out going over and long, because I had watched the coverage all morning,
03:21and nothing was bouncing, like, over the green.
03:24And so, it's just a reminder of how quickly this golf course can change
03:29when you start to get the wind to pick up.
03:31And I thought we were going to have a day where the wind was not much of a factor.
03:37You know, it was going to be like 5 to 10, a one-club wind.
03:40And right when we got to the bottom of the hill, it started picking up.
03:43And remember, when we got to the bottom of the hill, it started видnder the middle of the hill.
03:43And hopefully, you might have to see the middle right here at your corner.
