00:00The idea of like full frontal forehead bangs
00:03kind of freaks me out a little bit.
00:04I'm just nervous what my hair will look like in the end,
00:08just because I have such fine hair.
00:09I don't know if it'll be able to keep any texture.
00:12Hey, my name's Melody, and today I'm getting a wolf cut.
00:16That kind of easy, wavy, by the beach look
00:20is usually my go-to, but it is getting a little repetitive.
00:24I'm not really the best with doing my own hair,
00:27so the lower maintenance, the better.
00:30So I'm inspired by the trendy new wolf cut.
00:33It looks so fun, like there's so much body and movement.
00:37I do not mind the wolf cut kind of being
00:40a modern take of the mullet,
00:43just because I did have kind of a mullet when I was 13.
00:47You know, when scene punk hair was all in style,
00:50but I pulled it off.
00:51This was the quarantine Melody,
00:53and now we're going to post-quarantine Melody,
00:56and she's bold, she's fearless, she's confident,
00:59and she's ready to make a change.
01:02Hi, I'm Beau Stone, and I work at Mesh Salon
01:05in Beverly Hills, California, as a stylist.
01:08I have been a cutting specialist for over six years,
01:12and I specialize in recreating looks,
01:15anything with extensions, also adding color in.
01:19Really just creating looks is what I like to do.
01:22So knowing what the wolf cut is,
01:24do you have any insecurities with that or comfortabilities?
01:27I'm more open to getting curtain bangs
01:30than just straight across bangs.
01:33Yeah, for sure.
01:34We could definitely, like, customize it towards you.
01:36Perfect. I'm so ready.
01:38I'm excited for you.
01:39Yeah, me too.
01:40All right.
01:41So for Melody today, we're going to recreate the wolf cut,
01:44and what we're going to do is it's going to really suit her face,
01:47and we're going to keep the bangs a little bit longer,
01:51even though the wolf cut is a very fringe-heavy haircut.
01:54We're also going to really emphasize on the layers
01:57and really adding that fullness and volume to her hair,
02:01and we're going to keep the length
02:02to really accentuate that change.
02:06First, I'm going to begin brushing Melody's hair.
02:09Prior to any cutting, what I will do
02:12is I'm going to layer in some oil,
02:14and then I'm going to layer in a little bit
02:17of Cream for Style by Orbe.
02:19And what that will do is it'll give me a little bit of ease
02:22when cutting or combing through her hair.
02:27I am going to start in the fringe.
02:30I'm going to go ahead and take some diagonal sections,
02:33really keeping it a little bit longer,
02:35knowing that I can go back through
02:38and add some more shorter bits or texture.
02:49As an actor, I'm really excited to see exactly
02:53if I could fit in different roles with this kind of haircut,
02:57and I'm just really excited to test this out
03:01and see if maybe I want to take my new headshots
03:03with this haircut as well.
03:08From the fringe, I'm going to go into the side area of her head,
03:12everything from in front of her ear to the back of the ear,
03:16and I will pull that forward,
03:18and I will take out the weight with the razor
03:22as I go in and cut the length of the layers,
03:25that really face frame.
03:33From there, I will connect the layers from the front
03:37through the back through a vertical section
03:40through the top of her hair.
03:42And I will always cut away from my wrist
03:45when cutting layers with the razor.
03:48And as I do so, I will slide cut through to add more texture.
03:59Hair is identity.
04:01I think it's really one of the easiest ways to express yourself.
04:05It's one of the first things people see,
04:07so I think your hair does make a pretty big first impression.
04:14Once I've finished the layering process,
04:16which is most of the haircut,
04:18then I will look at the length,
04:20and I'll take my shears for this part,
04:23and I'll pull everything to the front,
04:26split down the back through the center,
04:28and I'll just slide cut through
04:30to create some more texture throughout the length,
04:33and then kind of chop in to where I want to see it fall.
04:37And then I'll pull everything to the back
04:39and do kind of the similar thing,
04:42point cutting and slide cutting
04:45until I get the desired texture in her ends.
04:49From there, we'll go in, add a little bit of re-wetting spray
04:53by the Foundation Mist of Orbe.
05:03I'll go in with the blow-dry,
05:05and I'll start with a small blonde bristle round brush,
05:09and I'll blow-dry the bangs away from the face,
05:13adding that nice bevel and bump,
05:15and then throughout all of the rest of the hair,
05:18rotating directions, and doing a wavy blow-dry
05:21with a small round brush.
05:30At the end, I'll finish with some Orbe
05:33Op Race Beach Setting Spray,
05:37and some super fine hair spray,
05:40and really just kind of build in that texture,
05:43separating the hair, and spraying in between.
05:47And the exciting part, the big reveal for Melody.
05:50Ready to see the final look?
05:52I'm so stoked!
05:54Here we go!
05:56Oh my god!
06:00I feel like a 70s supermodel.
06:02This is incredible.
06:03I just want to shake my hair all the time.
06:06Yeah.
06:12I love my haircuts so much.
06:14I feel like a rocker chic supermodel.
06:18I looked in the mirror, and I couldn't even believe
06:22how good I looked with bangs.
06:24Like, genuinely.
06:25I was so shocked at how well the bangs turned out,
06:28because I've had bangs in the past,
06:30and it looks so great, and it's going to be so easy to style,
06:34and I'm genuinely so, so happy with how it turned out.
06:37I really got to personalize the Wolf Cut 2 Melody,
06:41and her face, and her cheeks, and her jaw,
06:44which kind of made it very unique to her,
06:47and unique for me to get to cut it.
06:49I love the whole shagginess of it,
06:51and how it made my really thin hair look so voluminous,
06:54and textured, and I definitely think
06:57it's going to be a hairstyle I'm going to repeat.
06:59I would say the Wolf Cut is really trending right now,
07:03because lots of layers, texture, and movement,
07:06whereas we're kind of getting out of that really blunt,
07:10beachy, wavy look, and really just emphasizing texture,
07:13and natural waves, and low styling.
07:17I love that this look is easy to maintain.
07:20All I'm going to do is use my leave-in,
07:22and just comb it, and let the rest air dry.
07:24The overall transformation took about an hour.
07:27Typically, when cutting, especially working with the razor,
07:30things go a little bit faster and smoother.
07:33I can't believe I had a celebrity hairstylist cut my hair
07:36in such a legendary salon,
07:39so it's been an incredible opportunity.
07:42Working with Melody was really fun.
07:44You could tell she was very nervous at first for the big change.
07:47She was nervous that it was a very fringe-full haircut,
07:52and I think as her comfortability built,
07:54she got really excited and really had a fun time with it today.
07:58I do feel Debbie Ryan vibes from this haircut.
08:02I'm hoping she would be proud.
08:04I feel like any of the cool girls I see on Instagram
08:08with this kind of haircut, it's awesome.
08:09My favorite part about my job is getting to build that trust.
08:13For example, Melody coming in and not having that confidence
08:16and being a little scared,
08:18to then leaving just super on top of the world
08:21and shaking her hair and can't stop touching it.
08:24That's one of my favorite parts of the job.
08:26I feel so confident.
08:28I'm really glad that I took a risk.
08:29I kind of came out of my comfort zone a little bit
08:31to try something new.
08:33I think I needed something to shake me up a little bit
08:37and make me feel brand new.
