00:06create an inclusive makeup kit because it's important that everyone feels
00:10included within the beauty industry. An inclusive makeup kit is a complete
00:18makeup kit because you are prepared to do anyone's makeup. Start out with a few
00:23key colors and then fill in the gaps in between as you go. I've been doing makeup
00:27for over 20 years. I've worked with a vast array of complexions and being a
00:32black woman myself I am very experienced with building an inclusive makeup kit.
00:37Black women in particular are one of the biggest consumers within the beauty
00:41industry yet we are an afterthought when it comes to creating products that suit
00:46us. Colorism typically looks like a person of color of a lighter complexion
00:50being the only acceptable standard of beauty and it's unfair. Times have
00:56definitely changed but there is still difficulty for people of color being
01:00able to find foundation that matches their skin tone. What I have in front of
01:05me today are an array of complexion products that I think are essential to
01:09building an inclusive kit. Minted is a great brand started by two women of color.
01:14They have this stick foundation that is really really easy to use. It has a medium
01:20to buildable coverage. It's great to have a variety of coverages in your kit. It's
01:26really really important because you never know what the job may call for.
01:29Eavesdrop from Fenty Beauty is a great option. The beauty of a skin tint is that a
01:35larger range of people can wear one color. Next we're going to talk about Black Opal.
01:40It's extremely accessible, it's really really affordable and it has the wide range
01:44of complexion shades that one might need when they're starting to build out their
01:48kit. I think the misconception a lot of the time is that the deeper shades don't
01:53have these nuanced undertones when they actually do. So when I'm shopping for
01:57complexion products, I'm looking for a red undertone, I'm looking for a golden
02:02undertone and I'm also looking for a neutral undertone. In the instance that you
02:06need additional coverage, I often use powder foundation. Fenty has a really great
02:12powder foundation. It's a pro filter. It actually looks just like skin. NARS
02:17Radiant Creamy Concealers are an industry staple. It's a medium to buildable
02:22coverage. So if you're starting from zero, do not panic. You don't have to break
02:26the bank and buy every last shade. At least one from each category. You're light,
02:31you're medium, you're medium deep, you're deep, then you're deepest and then you just
02:35fill in the gaps accordingly. Blush is a part of the complexion. So I like to
02:40include cream blush in my complexion process before even finishing with
02:45powder because blush oftentimes is that missing key ingredient to warming a
02:51complexion. I'm gonna swatch the Hourglass Vanish cream stick blushes. I'm
02:58running out of space. Like that for me is great for two cheeks. I'm a sucker for a
03:03multi-use product, which is why I have this Juvia's Place The Berry palette. It's
03:07actually an eyeshadow palette but as you can see it has a lot of warm berries and
03:13pinks in it that could be used as a cheek product. You've put on all this
03:19beautiful foundation on your client and you want it to last all day. It's really
03:23important that you have the proper setting powders. I have Fenty Pro Filter
03:27Loose Powder, which is one of my absolute favorites. Someone who is a deeper
03:31complexion. It's good to match with nothing that's too white or too stark. I love the
03:37black opal true color. It looks like it has pigment but it really doesn't. It just
03:41absorbs oil. You can apply it as many times a day as you like for touch-ups and
03:45it won't look cakey or ashy. Nudes is a term that just started to become
03:51inclusive within the last couple of years. Enter Juvia's Place. She has a range of
03:57lipsticks that complement deeper skin tones and I love these because oftentimes you
04:02want to create dimension on the lip and the typical nude is way too ashy, is way
04:08too white looking. This one's going to be more complimentary. Being inclusive has
04:13been an afterthought for so long that it's now finally being addressed but it's
04:19fun. Makeup is fun and playing around with color is fun.
