00:02Early in the summer, I got my first laser facial and I came out of that 15 minute treatment
00:06so thrilled with the results.
00:09So I decided to go back, but this time for something a little bit more intense.

00:24Beauty With Me comes out every Monday at 11 a.m.
00:26So back to the spa, I zipped over to Skin Laundry, met Elise Shelger, the same registered
00:31nurse who performed my first treatment, and she sat me down for the carbon peel.
00:36Last time I was here, when I got the 15 minute laser facial, I saw that there was this cool
00:41other treatment that you guys do that involves carbon, it's called the carbon peel.
00:45I wanted to try it, but I was told that I couldn't because you need to get the first laser
00:49treatment
00:49first.
00:49Is that correct?
00:50Is it the same two lasers that we used last time, the YAG and the IPL?
00:54Yes, and what differentiates this carbon peel from others that you may see on the market
00:58is that we couple it with the IPL treatment, and the IPL is really effective for destroying
01:04acne-causing bacteria, which is photosensitive, and it calms inflammation and redness.
01:09So it's just a really good one-two punch for breakouts, and it gives you a really amazing
01:15glow since we're removing the dead skin cells.
01:17Well, I'm very excited to do this.
01:18I feel like I'm at that time of the month where I need it, so shall I light it up?
01:23Yes, I'm so excited that you're here to try it, and let's get started.
01:26Okay, so the first thing I'll do is use one of Skin Laundry's Purifying Cleansing Cloths
01:30just to remove any residual makeup or oils from your skin before we get started.
01:36So the carbon peel involves a similar process as the laser facial that you had last time,
01:41with an added step where we apply a carbon lotion to your skin prior to the laser treatment.
01:47We're going to let this set for about 10 minutes.
01:51While it's setting, it will bind to the stratum corneum, the outermost layer of your skin,
01:56and any material within your pores.
01:59I'm now just going to remove any excess.
02:02We want the laser to really reach the skin so we don't want too thick of a layer.
02:15Okay, so the first class that I'm going to do is called Heat Mode.
02:19This is going to help the carbon to better bind to that outermost layer of skin.
02:28So, beginning on the center of his forehead.
02:31Three, two, one.
02:35How does that feel?
02:37Feels fine.
02:37It actually kind of tickles a little bit.
02:39You'll hear more of a loud crackling sound because as the laser is passed over the carbon,
02:45it's attracted to that pigment, and it's vaporizing.
02:59So, the laser that we used that you had last time does vaporize any debris in the skin and on
03:05the surface,
03:06as well as dead skin cells.
03:08This is just going to intensify that exfoliation, and it will create more fumes just because of the carbon.
03:14That's why we'll use a vacuum.
03:24Like any of our facials, it's appropriate for all skin types and all skin concerns,
03:29but we do believe that this is the best treatment for acne-prone skin because you're getting that
03:34deep pore cleanse and it's removing the outermost layer of skin with no downtime.
03:38So, it can help reduce the chance of clogged pores and just remove that dead skin that accumulates on
03:45the surface.
03:49And then, I'm going to apply the gel for your IPL now.
03:53This is just a water-based gel.
03:55And this IPL gel helps to evenly distribute the light on your skin so you get a really even treatment.
04:04So, with this one, you may feel a little bit of heat and you'll mostly just see a very bright
04:08flash.
04:32So, a little bit of SPF moisturizer to protect you on the way out.
04:40The big reveal.
04:42Ta-da.
04:44Same thing as last time, I feel like.
04:45It looks a lot less red, which is, I always think ironic because you're like literally zapping yourself.
04:51I feel like the pores on my nose are like smaller too, a little bit.
04:55Well, thank you so much for seeing me.
04:57I'm so happy to see you too in the bed.
04:59My skin looked smoother, clearer, less irritated, less red after the treatment.
05:04In fact, on my way out, I caught a glimpse of myself in a mirror and actually did a double
05:09take because I was so surprised at how clear my skin looked with that foundation.
05:14So, as you can tell, I really liked it.
05:16But I will say that this treatment is 30 minutes and it costs $150, which is a pretty big price
05:22jump
05:23from the original laser and light facial, which only cost $65 per treatment.
05:27But it's also only 15 minutes.
05:29So, I would definitely take them into account if you're going to go.
05:32I think that, you know, obviously start off with the laser and light facial.
05:35It's a great treatment.
05:36There's no downtime.
05:37It's so fast.
05:38You're in and out.
05:38But there are also other ways that you can exfoliate.

05:46But all in all, I gotta say, the carbon peel was really good.
