00:00Snitch, snitch, snitch, snitch, snitch, snitch, snitch, snitch, snitch, snitch!
00:03Hey guys, Mi-Anne here, beauty writer at Refinery29.
00:06Oh, it feels so weird.
00:08Today I'm here with my friend and co-worker Wumbly, who has never washed a brush in her life.
00:14Never, not a one.
00:15What do you do with them?
00:16I just toss them.
00:17Can you throw them away?
00:19Yeah.
00:20That's so bad!
00:21For my wallet, especially.
00:23Well, there are a few reasons why you really should be washing your brushes at least once
00:27every two weeks because they harbor a lot of germs. Dirty brushes will lead to
00:33acne, skin irritations. I'm gonna show you a few ways to do it. Let's start with
00:38mixing one part dish soap with one part extra virgin olive oil. So what the
00:44olive oil is going to do is act as a bit of a conditioning agent. You don't want
00:48to like strip too much from them because they're gonna get dry. I'm gonna get this
00:53dirty foundation brush. Okay. I'm gonna wet it. Then I'm going to dip it in our
00:58mixture here. Go back and forth. Also kind of rinse it out as you go. Like look at
01:04all of that. It's like a paintbrush. Two years of foundation in this brush right now.
01:11It's gonna feel so good after two when you use a clean brush. It's like it's like
01:17getting into clean sheets for the first time. Yeah. Oh gosh. And if your brush is gonna pick up
01:21products so much easier. If you lay it flat, water can like trickle up to the
01:28ferrule. Yeah. Where there's like glue and like other stuff that keeps all the
01:31brush hairs like in place. And that could like break it down and like it could lead
01:35to your brush hairs coming out. Another thing that you can do is go to the store
01:42like Sephora or Ulta or something and grab a brush cleaner. They come in like liquid
01:46form. They also come in solid form which is the one that we're gonna be using
01:49today which is the Beauty Blender solid cleanser which you can use on sponges as
01:54well. This one comes with a little silicone pad that you can use to like rub your
01:57brushes on. But the soap is really easy so basically what you do is you'll wet your
02:02brush, swirl it in to pick up the product and then wash it under the sink. This is
02:06also a very dirty brush from this.
02:10I told you. This is the Lulumia. I'm just gonna call it the egg. It is a brush
02:17cleaning machine. So it looks really strange but I've never used it before but
02:22apparently it's supposed to wash your brushes for you which is awesome. I'm
02:25gonna fill it up to the line it says max with water and I'm gonna dispense an
02:30ounce of this fluid straight into the cavity. It takes six brushes. Poke it through. Now they're in. I'm gonna
02:37make
02:37them all similar heights and I'm gonna attach it in.
02:43It looks like a little spaceship that's just like launching them into cleanliness.
02:47I kind of want to take a boomerang of it.
02:55Hey they look pretty clean but I think that we can't really judge until we see
03:00them dry because when they're all wet they kind of look the same but when you
03:03see it tomorrow you'll really be able to see if we've got all the product out.
03:06So I guess we'll have to wait for a bit and check back later.
03:10Good morning Wembley.
03:12Good morning.
03:13So we are here for day two of our brush washing extravaganza. We have the three
03:18different methods of brushes dried now. So we're gonna see how we did.
03:31This one is not completely clean. There's still a little bit of eyeshadow and normally
03:35eyeshadow brushes are the easiest ones to clean so that's a little bit disappointing.
03:39If you had to rate these on a scale of one to ten in terms of affordability and like whether
03:44not you'd use it, practicality, what would you give these different methods?
03:47I think that I'm gonna stick by my tried and true favorite that I just learned and give the
03:55olive oil and soap method a 10 out of 10. It's easy, it feels fun to do.
04:01I've been using that method since high school. I really like it so I would also give it a 10
04:06out of 10.
04:07The solid soap, I think I would give it a 6 out of 10. Watching all the dirt come off
04:15onto the
04:17soap. I actually really like the silicone pad in there so I actually would give that a 9.
04:22The only reason I would knock it down a point is because it is a little bit pricey.
04:26This egg, I'm gonna give it a 2 out of 10 just because for me it doesn't make any sense.
04:34I'm not gonna spend that much money on something that I can just do myself. I'm like where am I
04:39gonna put it? For what it is, I think that I'd probably give it like a 4. I like hand
04:43washing
04:44my brushes. I like to like engage with my brushes. Yeah, now I'm going to brush up on these new
04:50skills and become a brush washer. Yay! Click here to watch more videos from Refinery29,
