00:00Hey guys, it's me, Ann Chan, beauty writer at Refinery29, and today I am getting a $1,000 caviar facial.
00:07Raise your hand if you've ever tried something simply to see if it's worth the price tag.
00:12I'll be honest, paying more than my monthly rent for a few hours of getting my face primped
00:17sounds exceedingly expensive, which is exactly why I want to try this out.
00:22Full disclosure, I got it for free.
00:24Which is just one of the perks of writing about and doing beauty stuff for your full-time job.
00:29I'm going to go with my friend Fran, who also happens to be a skincare addict.
00:34And she has a YouTube channel called Hey Fran Hey.
00:37I'm totally excited. I've actually never had a facial.
00:41So to have a $1,000 one is my first. I think it's pretty cool.
00:44The facial in question is the caviar facial, which is done at the La Prairie Spa here in New York
00:49at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel.
00:51La Prairie is a Swiss skincare brand that just so happens to be extremely expensive and super luxurious.
00:58The brand uses caviar essence in the facial and in their products that help hydrate and plump and anti-age
01:06the skin.
01:07The first thing my facialist Lisa did was cleanse and steam my face to get rid of any oil and
01:12makeup left on my skin.
01:14The next thing she did was extract any whiteheads or blackheads out of my face, which to a lot of
01:19people is very, very unpleasant.
01:22My skin is so sensitive.
01:24Right.
01:25The extraction part is always the part that feels like, ooh.
01:28But I really enjoy the action of just getting all that gunk out of my skin.
01:45The next thing she did was use the cellular peel on my skin for three minutes.
01:49It's basically a gel that has a lot of acids and gentle exfoliants in it that help loosen up and
01:55get rid of all the dead skin on your face.
02:00Next, she did the weirdest thing ever, which was massage my hands and feet and then put these weird robotic
02:07hand warmers on me.
02:09It was really cool.
02:10It did get a little bit hot.
02:11It was super sweaty, but it was worth it.
02:13Next, she used a caviar eye serum on my skin with these weird glass orbs that had this blue liquid
02:21in it that was all cool.
02:22It feels really good.
02:24So for those of you who thought that I was going to get fish eggs slapped all over my face,
02:28that was not the case.
02:30Although I couldn't feel or smell the caviar in the treatment, it did feel really amazing.
02:36It was super hydrating.
02:38And although I didn't know it was there, I trust them.
02:40If you ever keep your eye cream in the fridge and you put it on your face, that's exactly what
02:44it felt like.
02:45About a thousand times better.
02:50Then, to hydrate my skin after it's been chemically exfoliated and whatnot, Lisa put the Hydro Lift Fermi Mask on
02:59my skin.
02:59It also has hyaluronic spheres, which immediately plump and fill up that delicate eye area.
03:06It felt very, very good.
03:07So you are just a little irritated in some of those spots where we did extractions, but that will calm
03:13down very quickly.
03:14And in the next couple days, the skin will just continue to look better and better.
03:18My skin feels really good.
03:19It doesn't hurt at all.
03:20Okay, good.
03:20It looks really good.
03:21It looks like concealer.
03:23I feel amazing.
03:24I was having some hormonal breakouts on the right side of my face.
03:29And obviously, she didn't treat the acne, but it just looks different.
03:34It looks like the discoloration has been lightened.
03:39How are you feeling post-facial?
03:44You know, the facial, I will say one of the pros is that it didn't make me break out.
03:50Good.
03:50Me too.
03:51No breakouts.
03:52My face was actually really moist the entire day, which was really nice.
03:56My skin has been really, really clear.
03:59Yeah, exactly.
03:59I'm not wearing anything on my face right now.
04:01I'm just wearing lipstick and eyeliner.
04:03The big question is, do you think that it was worth the money?
04:08I think if you can treat yourself, maybe for your birthday, or like specialty, even.
04:13And if you have the money to do it, like, I'm not going to judge you for it.
04:17Like, go for it.
04:18Caviar is definitely a plus for me.
04:21Yeah, it was fun.
04:22What I really loved about this facial was that it was super hydrating and really gently exfoliating,
04:28which you can get without paying $1,000.
04:30So I pulled a few products that I think will give you similar effects.
04:35First, this mask by Herbivore Botanicals.
04:38It's sold at Sephora.
04:39It's called the Blue Tansy Mask.
04:40It's basically a blue goo that's full of fruit enzymes and gentle acid.
04:45So it's pretty much going to do what the cellular peel in the La Prairie facial did,
04:52which is gently exfoliate your skin.
04:54The next product is one of my favorites.
04:56This is the Honey Potion Facial from Pharmacy.
04:59It's full of really hydrating ingredients like honey and oils.
05:03And when you put it on your face and rub it in, it actually has a warming effect.
05:08This is a really great strictly moisturizing mask.
05:11It's by Mission Groves.
05:12It's called the Hydrating Face Mask.
05:14And it has jojoba oil and rosehip oil in it.
05:18And you would rub it on your face and leave it on for about 20 minutes.
05:21And it's just going to deeply, deeply hydrate your skin.
05:24And you just take it off and you go to bed.
05:28Bottom line, that was an amazing facial.
05:31It was really expensive, but my face feels like a thousand bucks.
05:34I want to know what your favorite masks are and would you ever get a thousand dollar facial?
05:39Let me know in the comments below.
05:40I'll see you next time.
