00:02Ever since I got my zits zapped, I want to say a year and a half ago at Dermalogica,
00:07I've been on the hunt for another facial that is as good for acne.
00:12I found one.
00:13It's at a spa called Skin Laundry, which has locations all around the US.
00:17And the treatment is called the Laser and Light Facial.
00:20It uses lasers to combat things like acne, inflammation, redness, brighten the overall
00:27complexion.
00:28And it only takes 15 minutes.
00:31I went last week, so I'm going to show you the entire process.
00:34I'll let you know what I thought.

00:45So, without further ado, let's go to the spa.
00:49I was a little bit nervous to go get this treatment because I was afraid that it would
00:53hurt or sting.
00:54But as soon as I got there, my nervousness just went away.
00:57As soon as I met my nurse, Elise.
00:59Hi, Mian.
01:00Welcome to Skin Laundry.
01:01My name is Elise.
01:02I'll be the nurse performing your 15-minute laser facial today.
01:05So, what we do here at Skin Laundry is a two-part treatment.
01:08The first is a YAG laser and the second is IPL, which stands for intense pulse light.
01:14The laser will be the first portion where we'll do two passes of your face.
01:18What that does is it targets pigment, so it will help break up any hyperpigmented areas.
01:22And it's also going to deep clean your pores.
01:25So anybody who has acne, breakouts, clogged pores, blackheads, it's going to vaporize dirt.
01:32During the laser portion of the treatment, you'll feel a little bit of heat and prickling.
01:35If you'd like a break at any time, just let me know, but you shouldn't have any discomfort.
01:40Amazing.
01:41Well, I can't wait to start.
01:42After Elise told me what to expect, what it would feel like, she brought me to the treatment
01:46table and I removed any residual makeup with a cleansing wipe.
01:52Then, came the fun part.
01:56While I'm doing the laser treatment, you may smell something.
01:59This is not your hair or skin burning, it's just the vapors getting cleaned out.
02:04I smell it.
02:04You smell it already.
02:05Okay, good.
02:06So that's the smell of success.
02:07That means your skin is getting deeply cleaned.
02:10This one, I'm not going to lie, didn't feel great.
02:13It felt like prickling.
02:14I don't think that I would have been able to withstand having that laser on my face for
02:18much more than like 10 minutes.
02:20It's a good thing the facial is only 15.
02:23That was one pass.
02:24We'll do two passes.
02:25How are you doing?
02:26Good.
02:27Sometimes I can see stuff come up to the surface.
02:30I haven't really seen anything like that with you, but it is possible that wherever there
02:35is underlying congestion, it can come to the surface.
02:38If that happens, we call it purging and it's just a natural part of the healing process.
02:44We recommend that if you do have any purging, you just come back in a few days for another
02:48treatment that will help clear it right up.
02:56So once the first laser was done, Elise brought out the IPL machine.
02:59I'll be applying some cold gel to your face.
03:02The gel is just a water-based ultrasound gel.
03:05It's going to keep your skin nice and cool and the purpose is to help evenly spread the
03:10light so it acts as a conductor for the IPL treatment.
03:18You will feel a little bit of heat and mostly you're just going to observe a very bright
03:23light.
03:24Whoa.
03:26So what does this one do in comparison to the first?
03:29It's also targeting redness and inflammation and it leaves your skin with a bit of a tightened
03:35feeling.
03:36So after the treatment, you should feel tighter, brighter, glowing, clean.
03:41They both deliver light energy, but they're delivering the energy in different wavelengths.
03:50How often is it recommended to get this treatment?
03:53This treatment is mild enough and safe enough to do every other day.
03:57Most people come between every seven and ten days and that's it.
04:11And now I'll apply a little bit of toner and I'll apply a little bit of daily moisturizer
04:23with SPF.
04:24How does your skin feel?
04:25It feels good.
04:26I'm excited to see what it looks like.
04:27You look great.

04:29Oh, my skin looks a lot less red.
04:31Is that just me?
04:32It definitely looks calmer, brighter, healthy and clean.
04:35So what should I do now that we're done?
04:38Our aftercare is very simple because the treatment is so mild and safe.
04:41We recommend that you reapply sunscreen every two hours.
04:44If you do any manual exfoliation like a Clarisonic brush or scrubs, just wait until tomorrow
04:50for that.
04:50Does it make your skin a little bit more sensitive to that?
04:53It can and we just don't want to over exfoliate because your skin has just been exfoliated.
04:59So we want to just give it time.
05:00It's been a week since I've gotten the treatment and my skin has been really smooth.
05:04The makeup has gone on really well over it.
05:06I think that for the time that it takes to commit to the facial, it's like a no-brainer.

05:22If you can't make it to a skin laundry or you simply don't want to drop the cash, which

05:27There are a few things that you can do at home that can give you a similar result, although
05:31they are not going to be a laser.
05:35So Nitrogena makes a mask and it's called the Light Therapy Acne Mask.
05:40Now it uses blue and red light to target acne causing bacteria.
05:43It is super easy to use.
05:48It turns on and you just sit tight really for 10 minutes.
05:52It will automatically turn off and it's essentially your mask, but you don't have to wash it off.
05:57So you just chill, sit on the couch.
06:00The second is much more traditional, but you know how much I love a good exfoliating mask.
06:05This is a San Francisco based brand, it's called Monastery and this is the exfoliating glycolic
06:10gel.
06:11What's nice about it is it's a very, very gentle mask.
06:14I wouldn't say it's the same as the Light and Laser Facial, but it does give you that
06:18instant brightening effect.
06:20Because it has the rose water in it, it is very soothing, so I don't tend to get any redness
06:24from it.
06:25All around a goodie.
06:27So that is it.
