00:08ocean, practicing on the track, laughing with your friends, trying to decide who to ask
00:12to prom, in class pretending to be bored, but actually just a step ahead, or at play
00:16practice.
00:17Why did we call it play practice then?
00:19Anyway, I digress.
00:20You're in your Orange County bubble, a bubble that does not at all represent the rest of
00:25the world or the rest of your life.
00:27But that's okay.
00:28In fact, it's more than okay.
00:30I'm here to tell you to enjoy it, soak it up, learn from it, and begin to recognize
00:34for what it is.
00:36Recognize that you will not always be the only black person in the room, but to take with
00:41you the ability to flourish when you are the only black person in the room.
00:44Recognize that the idea of diversity also includes sexuality, and while at the time you're homecoming
00:50king and dating the cheerleader, one day you'll be playing a cheerleader and dating a former
00:54homecoming king, and that younger me will be okay.
00:57In fact, it's more than okay, because you will demand people to love you for you and nothing
01:01else.
01:02So my final piece of advice to you is to love you now.
01:05Embrace all your passions, acknowledge your shortcomings, continue to grow, continue to
01:10be curious, and continue to love freely, because one day that bubble will burst and life won't
01:15be perfect, but it will be pretty damn awesome.
