00:17We were able to identify the most suitable power saws, for instance, the most suitable
00:23pumps, the most suitable boats, so rather than dinghies, because we observed that the
00:29dinghies were often damaged by sharp objects or protruding stumps, and then we lost use
00:37of them.
00:37It was suggested that we have metal boats, flat bottom aluminum dinghies, and this is
00:44very lightweight and easy to carry and easy to operate.
00:48They suggested specific models of power saws and tree trimmers, specific models of pumps
00:56and generators that are easy to operate, and so the donation that you see here took months
01:03for our disaster personnel to properly identify.
01:15In time of disaster, each region would have to send for equipment here at El Socorro, even
01:21those as far as Mayaro and Toku.
01:23What I have sought to do is establish in every region where they will have their own stockpile.
01:29So in anticipation of this equipment coming in and this donation, we practically emptied
01:35our warehouse some months ago, where all the equipment we had here was assigned to corporations.
01:40They must properly account for it.
01:42So you cannot randomly give away mattresses or tapings because somebody wants one.
01:47They must be properly used in a time of disaster and you must account for every piece of equipment.
01:52So they each have their own stockpile at present.
01:55We have started a program where they will all have their own disaster warehouse.
02:00So Sandy Grandy has already started and they are close to completing their disaster warehouse.
02:12In Trinidad, we treat sargassum as a nuisance.
02:14We dump it, but there is so much use.
02:17So I have been able to see firsthand the equipment they have that breaks down the sargassum in
02:23ten days to fertilizer that can be utilized safely in agriculture.
02:29And this is compared to four years that it would take to break down naturally in the environment.
02:35That is one.
02:36I also looked at their disaster management systems, the training that they have, the equipment
02:45and some of the shelters that they have established and how they approach sensitizing citizens and
02:52involving citizens in disaster management.
03:10And that is the only way we can follow the teachings that Christ has is if we are prepared
03:18to do that and to help those in need.
