00:00The state's appeal in the high-profile detention of businessman Dominic Hadid and his wife Genevieve
00:06has now been listed before the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council under case number JCPC-2026-0066.
00:15The appeal stems from the couple's detention under preventive detention orders issued during the current state of emergency.
00:22Earlier this month, the Court of Appeal ordered that the Hadids be released from prison and placed under strict house
00:28arrest
00:29while legal proceedings continued.
00:31However, before that order could take effect, the state successfully applied for a stay of execution,
00:37keeping the couple in custody pending an appeal to the Privy Council.
00:42The Judicial Committee has now formally listed the matter as an appeal as of right from Trinidad and Tobago.
00:49The appellants are the Commission of Police, the Minister of Homeland Security,
00:53the Attainee General and Police Constable Eldon Caliste.
00:56Dominic and Genevieve Hadid are listed as the respondents.
01:00The Privy Council will now determine whether the Court of Appeal was correct in ordering the Hadids' conditional release
01:07pending the determination of the wider constitutional issues surrounding their detention.
01:12The case follows a series of legal challenges over preventive detention orders.
01:17The outcome of the appeal is expected to have significant implications not only for the Hadids
01:23but also for the government's use of preventive detention orders during the state of emergency.
01:29No hearing date has yet been announced by the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council.
