Transcript
00:00Attorney Anand Ramlogan issued a constitutional motion when a High Court judge granted warrants
00:06to have Ramlogan's telephone lines tapped.
00:10He is being charged with misbehavior in public office and obstruction of justice.
00:16Allegations against Ramlogan surround claims that in 2014, he approached David West, director
00:22of the Police Complaints Authority, asking him to withdraw his statement in a case for
00:28defamation of character brought against him by then-opposition leader Dr Keith Rowley.
00:34It is alleged that Ramlogan wanted this done as a favor for having West appointed to the
00:40PCA.
00:41The charges were brought against Ramlogan in 2017.
00:45The dismissal of Ramlogan's claims mean the case can resume at the Magistrate's Court.
00:50However, the matter may be placed on hold again because Ramlogan has given instructions
00:56to his team to appeal Justice Nadia Kangaloo's ruling in dismissing the constitutional motion.
01:04Justice Kangaloo held that there was no breaches to Ramlogan's constitutional rights and that
01:09the state had acted within its legal boundaries.
01:13In addition to that, the judge said the court had found no evidence to support Ramlogan's
01:18contention of bias against him by Justice Gillian Luckey, who granted the warrants to
01:23police.
01:24Further to that, she said there was no evidence of an inability by Ramlogan to defend himself
01:31and that he failed to demonstrate to the court that he had suffered any prejudice.
01:37Justice Kangaloo added that the admissibility of the evidence obtained by the execution
01:42of the warrants has not yet been determined.
01:46Justice Kangaloo also ordered that Ramlogan pay the legal cost incurred by the Office
01:52of the Attorney General in defending it.
