Transcript
00:00Opposition MP Bari Padharath has no problem with the incoming WASA CEO.
00:05He, however, agrees with the union that this change will change little at the state utility.
00:12The opposition has no issue with any CARICOM or foreign national taking up the position once proper process was used.
00:22But there are questions to be answered.
00:25The opposition has taken steps to request of WASA the process that was used,
00:33the consultants that were hired, the remuneration that has been offered and that will be paid to Mr. Haldi.
00:40He says the UNC has been at pains to get details of the planned hiring of nine new executives at WASA,
00:47including filing a Freedom of Information request.
00:51They are in breach of the Freedom of Information Act and in fact has broken the law with respect to freedom of information.
01:01And they are now asking for a fourth extension.
01:07As such, the opposition on Thursday filed for judicial review.
01:11Please be advised, our client has instructed us to file an application for judicial review
01:17against the Water and Sewerage Authority and claim for the following relief.
01:21One, a declaration that WASA breached its statutory authority under Section 15 of the Freedom of Information Act
01:29to take reasonable steps to enable an applicant to be notified of the approval or refusal of a request in this case
01:36as soon as practicable, but in any other case no later than 30 days after the day on which the due request was made.
01:43Padarath says government does not want to answer those questions ahead of the general election.
