Friday afternoon the State's urgent application seeking leave to go to the Privy Council to overturn the ruling of the of the Court of Appeal and a stay of the order to release Dominic Hadeed and his wife Genevieve was still before the Appeal Court up to news time.

The Court Appeal had ruled yesterday that the Hadeeds should be released from prison and placed under strict house arrest- however, their hopes of leaving prison were dashed last night after the State filed an urgent application to thwart their release until the determination of the Privy Council.

Senior Journalist Juhel Brown is at the Hall of Justice and brings us the latest on this unfolding court matter that began more than four hours ago.

00:00Good evening. The proceedings for the Hadids today would have begun at 3 p.m. as attorneys for the Hadids
00:06and attorneys for the state have been making ranking submissions before the judges in the Court of Appeal.
00:12In the instance of the Hadids, the attorneys are seeking their release from state detention to house arrest at their
00:18home under very strict conditions in keeping with a ruling by a first panel of the Court of Appeal yesterday.
00:24The state is seeking a continued stay of that ruling in keeping with a ruling by a second panel of
00:31the Court of Appeal last evening.
00:33It is expected that the Court of Appeal will deliver a ruling this evening or maybe later tonight that will
00:38determine whether the Hadids will be allowed to leave state detention and return to their home under strict conditions under
00:45house arrest
00:46or whether they will continue to remain in state detention as the state is seeking to have the matter go
00:52before the Privy Council, which is Trinidad and Tobago's final Court of Appeal, which is located in London.
