00:01Hey, Bali interiors. I'm Johnny Coda, a fashion designer living here in Bali.
00:05Come take a peek in my paradise.
00:17This is my home, Villa Blackbird.
00:20It's like my brutal Zen sanctuary here in Bali, near Sese Beach.
00:25It's inspired kind of by this modern black kind of like take on a monastery.
00:31Very Zen, very peaceful, but modern and masculine and design forward.
00:39So this is kind of my fantasy of what my dream home could look like.
00:47So my Villa is a three bedroom home.
00:49I call it Zen Brutalist and it's all situated around this central courtyard.
00:55It's inspired by like a Japanese monastery with the cherry blossoms or the ginkgo trees.
01:00So it's all kind of designed around this big flamboyant tree,
01:04which will turn into all the red beautiful blossoms and kind of sprinkle all through the yard.
01:10That's matched with the koi pond, the waterfall.
01:13Every single room in this house has four elements, stone, metal, glass and wood.
01:20So it's like everything has the hard, the soft, the earth.
01:24So it's all those elements.
01:26So every single bedroom, every bathroom, every courtyard has these four elements.
01:30And to me, this brings balance to the whole house.
01:33The villa was designed by my friend Sakaar at Udara Studios.
01:37And the interiors were done by our friend Chelsea with Somewhere Concepts.
01:40And we got to collaborate really closely on making this vision come to life.
01:44Chelsea with the interiors, she took my collections, my fashion collections,
01:50the inspirations that I use for my clothes and kind of fused them into the concepts for the interiors.
01:57And every single piece of furniture is custom designed for this house to represent my aesthetic,
02:02to represent the aesthetic of Villa Blackbird.
02:05As you can see, there's a lot of black.
02:07But I think there's this kind of balance of like hard and soft, masculine and feminine.
02:13And I think it's really important in your house to feel that strength, that comfort.
02:18So let me bring you on a little tour of my house.
02:20We'll start with the guest rooms.

03:29Now back to the video.
03:30So downstairs is where all my guests and my family members stay.
03:35And this is kind of one of my favorite rooms.
03:38It's just very simple with a view of the rice fields and the volcanoes.
03:42Here is this cute little reading nook where you can kind of hang out over the Koi pond and relax.
03:48All of the furniture was custom designed for this house and I love these beautiful built-ins right here.
03:56It's very Japanese, but I think it's very modern and very cool and they light up.
04:01I love this room.
04:02There's so much light, lots of natural light coming in from the glass and every bedroom has a whole wall
04:08of glass.
04:09So you can really have this indoor-outdoor living experience, which is very popular in Bali.
04:14But I think that we're doing it with like a modern take.
04:17And so you can very much choose your own adventure.
04:24And let me show you my second guest room.
04:30Here's the second guest room and it's all situated around this outdoor garden behind you.
04:36So all these plants will kind of grow in and give you this feeling like you're kind of indoor-outdoor
04:41living with this beautiful garden.
04:43Still very masculine.
04:44Lots of concrete.
04:46All the custom furnishings, including these custom lamps I made, which are inspired by the male anatomy.
04:53I think this whole house is very masculine.
04:55And so I thought, why not pay homage to that with the lamps?
04:59Coming this way, here is this fantastic wardrobe for this guest room.
05:04It's massive, lots of light, lots of mirrors.
05:06And I love this outdoor bathroom.
05:09Huge mirrors, lots of garden, outdoor shower.
05:13It feels very sexy.
05:14I feel like the whole house kind of embodies this like peaceful sexiness.
05:18And this bathroom is the perfect example of that.
05:25So I love the guest rooms in this villa.
05:27But nothing compares to the primary suite upstairs, the main event, my bedroom.
05:32But before I show you that, let me show you the dining area, the sunken living and the kitchen.
05:37This is kind of where the whole house comes together, where we cook, where we entertain.
05:41So let me show you kind of the heartbeat of the house.
05:51Here's the sunken living space in the villa.
05:54I love this space because there's this huge sunken sofa and we use the denim from my collection.
06:01The pillows have the signature stripes, voila, that I use everywhere in my collection and in the house.
06:07The art is by the artist Ricky Lee Gordon, who actually lives right there in the rice field, just about
06:14100 meters away.
06:15He does these beautiful portraits of waves.
06:17This one's with charcoal.
06:18And so this area is like the perfect place to entertain.
06:22The music blast in, the lighting underneath the sofa, all the accents.
06:26It's kind of like the view of the volcanoes, the swimming pool, the clay pond.
06:31This is kind of like the center of the house.
06:34It's very, it might not look cozy, but it's incredibly cozy.
06:40So for me, the most important part of the house is where you dine, where you come together.
06:45We created this awesome, custom giant table, which fits about 10 people.
06:50But for holidays, I'll cram 20 there, everyone shoulder to shoulder, really sharing food and breaking bread together.
06:56There are these awesome kind of accent lamps above it.
06:59And the whole house, including this room, is framed by these giant walls of glass.
07:05It can close off to have like an AC moment, but also every single thing opens.
07:16So you really have this indoor, outdoor, beautiful living experience.
07:20The wind coming off the fields, coming from the ocean, greeting you here at the table.
07:25It's one of my favorite aspects of the house.
07:30I love my kitchen here at Villa Blackbird.
07:33It's all custom built, black marble, black granite.
07:37Once again, the stone, the wood, the glass, the metal, those four elements.
07:44So I think it's a very masculine, beautiful kitchen experience.
07:49And it's huge.
07:50It's very social.
07:51People are interacting and I love like the cleanliness of the lawn.
07:55Everything kind of disappears.
07:56You know, there's no handles.
07:58It's all kind of customized to my aesthetic and to the villa.
08:03What kind of works the best for this house?
08:10So here's the primary powder room with this like kind of over the top entrance with this
08:16bridge over the koi pond, this huge skylight.
08:19And my favorite thing is during rainy season, the rain just pours through and slams into the
08:24pond.
08:24It's gorgeous.
08:26If you follow me on this bridge, this is the powder room and it has a glass floor.
08:31And when we were building this villa, my architect is like, you are not going to put a glass floor
08:36in your powder room.
08:37But for me to be able to see the fish while you're using the space, I think is so cool.
08:43I have zero regret.
08:44I love it.
08:45Okay.
08:46Now let me show you my favorite part of the house, the master bedroom and the whole upstairs
08:51outdoor experience, meditation zone.
08:54It's kind of like my dream space.
08:56Come see.
09:02Okay.
09:03Welcome to the master bedroom here at Villa Blackbird, AKA my room, where all the action
09:08happens.
09:09Custom built bed, concrete walls.
09:12I think it's masculine, but it's very, very cozy.
09:15And the best part is every morning I wake up, I look out over the rice fields.
09:20I can see the volcanoes, both Mount Agung and Mount Batur.
09:24And every morning I'm reminded how special this place is and how beautiful Bali is.
09:29One of my favorite parts about my room is this sexy, all black bathroom I designed.
09:35This is big black bathtub.
09:37All the furnishings, all the sinks, all the sanitary is all black.
09:41My black toilet I had to import from far away.
09:44All black shower.
09:46To me, it's all black everything.
09:47Like this is like my dream home and it's really distilled here in this bathroom.
09:52You really get a sense of the all blackness.
09:56So here's my wardrobe.
09:58I love this part of the room as my full vanity, all of my jewelry, which is there.
10:03There's way too much of all my clothes.
10:06And the great thing about this wardrobe is it also doubles as a desk.
10:11So here and there, there's two desk spots looking out over the courtyard, looking out over the meditation zone.
10:18This part I love about my room.
10:24So here in the master bedroom, I have my altar with my crystals, my incense, my candles.

10:33And my favorite feature of this whole house is this opening wall.
10:40Brings you to a whole private patio for the master bedroom.
10:44And here's my upstairs private patio.
10:47Tons of privacy, clothing optional, and it's with a bonsai garden.
10:52And this leads you to my kind of yoga deck, my meditation center, and this beautiful fire pit.
11:00So at night we do fire ceremonies with the manku.
11:02We have cocktails up here during sunset.
11:05It's really a beautiful feature of this house.
11:07It's very calming.
11:08You see the sunrise.
11:09You see the sunset.
11:11It's a beautiful corner of the house.
11:13It's not used that often.
11:14So it makes it even more special.
11:22And here is my garden at Villa Blackbird.
11:25This beautiful 14 meter lap pool.
11:27All black volcanic stone.
11:29The grass.
11:31The statues.
11:33The durga.
11:33The big archetypal rocks.
11:36Beautiful vegetation growing up the walls.
11:38All black furnishings matching the black pool.
11:41The black temple where twice a day the prayers and blessings are said.
11:46And the best thing is the view.
11:48Endless rice fields and the two volcanoes.
11:50It's like the most quintessential Bali view.
11:54A slice of heaven comes to my little dream world.
11:57It's a beautiful, beautiful part of the house.
12:00And I think this is like kind of the most exciting feature for guests, my family, and to entertain and
12:06have fun.
