00:36Now, let's watch today's episode about Peek in Paradise with Michelle from Villa Juju.
00:43Hi Bali Interiors, my name is Michelle, this is Jolie, Jude and Joshi.
00:49Welcome to Villa Juju, come and take a peek in our paradise.
01:06We wanted to have a house big enough to house all of the cousins.
01:10I have five sisters and I think that there's 11 cousins at the moment.
01:14We worked out that we would need nine bedrooms and that was a big criteria in the land that we
01:20would buy.
01:20We wanted to have a main house and a guest house so that we could split the group into the
01:26rowdy young kids
01:27and later the older ones.
01:29And I'll show you the guest house, Villa Juju Allit, afterwards.
01:32We really wanted to have a double ceiling to walk in and have a big grand entrance.
01:37And I love that you walk in and you get the big void, a cluster of oversized rattan lamps.
01:44This is one of my favorite parts of the villa.
01:48This is a little indoor living area.
01:52Honestly, we don't use it very much when we're outside most of the time.
01:56Indoor dining and we have the kitchen here.
02:03This is where we spend most of our time as a family.
02:06We have a really big sunken lounge area here and we do everything here.
02:12We sit, we play games, kids are on their iPads, we have massage treatments, the nail ladies come.
02:19And the best thing about it is that when we have both villas full, which is a lot,
02:24I think there's a capacity for 24, we can all sit here and fit in together and it's cozy and
02:29we love it.
02:30And at night time we pull the screens down and we have a projector for movies.
02:39Let me show you the bedrooms upstairs.
02:45Okay, so this is one of our guest bedrooms.
02:48We have three in this house and four in the other.
02:50This is the blue room because it's blue.
02:52It was really important for us to have all of the guest rooms pretty much the same size as the
02:57master
02:58because I didn't want anyone to come to stay with us and feel mugged off with a little box room.
03:02And I have this beautiful picture frame window here.
03:05I love the light that it lets in.
03:07I love the views of the rice terraces that we can see.
03:10The sunrise comes up this way.
03:12It's beautiful.
03:13Now let me show you the master room.
03:17So this is the master bedroom.
03:19But I like to call it the parent's suite because it has a few surprises.
03:24Ready?
03:30The children's bedroom is attached to the master bedroom mainly because as a mom I think it's so
03:36important especially when we're traveling that the children are close to me that they feel safe
03:41that I'm reassured that they're next to me. A lot of the villas in Bali are built well to an
03:48outdoor
03:48living standard so it's not it's not the case in most villas in Bali. Children have access to the
03:53swimming pool if they want and you would be none the wiser because you're asleep. Not here at Villa Joju.
04:00This space is really just for the kids. It's everything that they love.
04:05It's somewhere that they can play. They can have slumber parties. I have three children and
04:10they're also there's bunks before and you can pull these out here.
04:18Okay so this is the master bedroom and there is a lot of gray in this villa but in my
04:25defense
04:25like many other moms with young kids I'm very overstimulated and I need some calm. I need
04:31an oasis of just gray. There's enough pops of excitement in my life. So this is our master bedroom.
04:39I love that I have convenient things like international plugs. I don't need to bring
04:43different chargers and converters. I like that the lamps are wired in. It's just easy for me here.
04:51Now let me show you the master bathroom.
04:56Okay so this is the master bathroom. I have a beautiful bathtub and I had to install its own water
05:02heater because it's very hard to get the water hot enough in Bali to mom's standards.
05:09Okay we have a double shower here. One for mom but I also like to be able to clean the
05:13kids off after
05:14the beach here so I don't get sand in the house. This is the final secret of the parent suite
05:25stroke
05:25master room. I have a little tv room in here where I can put the kids to bed and then
05:31I can come and
05:31relax keep up with the Kardashians watch some Yellowstone. My son also has his video game console
05:38up in here so the kids also use this space but it's mostly me. I just like to have the
05:43kids close.
05:44If they wake up which they often do I'm close can put them back to bed and get back to
05:48the tv.
05:52This is our upstairs deck area. It's a really versatile space. We use it a lot because it's
05:58nice and breezy and there's a lot we can do here. We love the table. My husband ordered this table
06:05about three hours before the big earthquake. Maybe was it four years ago now? It's a mother of pearl
06:12inlay in Lombok and we didn't hear anything from the guy for like four or five months and then suddenly
06:18he
06:18emailed saying I've got your table. Sorry sir there was an earthquake and we were just really touched
06:24that after everything they'd been through in Lombok we got this table so it's a really special piece for us.
06:34Now let me show you my favorite bathroom in the house.
06:40I actually love this bathroom more than I love my own up in the master because this one has so
06:47much
06:47natural light. I love the whole idea of a Bali outdoor bathroom but I'm terrified of what you get
06:54when you have an outdoor bathroom in Bali which is frogs and snakes and bugs. So this is the compromise.
07:02I have a glass roof over the bath. I have some foliage and I have a beautiful terrazzo bath
07:11and it's perfect. At night time you can look at the stars. When it's raining it's just so relaxing.
07:17I love the sound of the rain on the glass. It's my favorite.
07:25Okay let me show you our outdoor area.
07:29It was important for us to have a wading section for the kids in our pool because they love to
07:34just
07:34sit and play with their toys on the side. So this is the wading section which goes into the pool
07:40which
07:40was powered with barley blue stone. I always wanted a pool. We have a lot of lawn games for the
07:45children.
07:46I have football nets. I have cornhole. We've got skipping ropes. There's a lot for them to do as well
07:54as the pool floaties.
07:56This is our outdoor dining area. We have breakfast, lunch and dinner out here really.
08:02It's just nice to relax by the pool. Everything tastes better. Alfresco. We also have an outdoor
08:08kitchen here with the barbecue. We're British and there's not many nice days of summer but when there
08:13is everyone gets our barbecues out. So we have a lot of beautiful weather in Bali but it's still nice
08:19to have a barbecue in the sun. This is Villa Joju Alit. Alit is a Balinese word that kind of
08:30means little
08:31and we use it to kind of show that this is the little sister of Villa Joju. Come.
08:40We really love this villa especially the feature roof we have in here which is which is the traditional
08:47Indonesian method. It's a big A-frame. This is a single-story villa but it doubles the space we have.
08:55There's a lot of light, a lot of space and it's a beautiful wood. It smells nice in here. We
09:01love it.
09:08So I love this room. I love the monochrome palette in here. Remember we got this bed throw at Kim
09:14Soo because
09:15I got one to take home to our Singapore house too. I love that you can wake up in this
09:21this room and
09:22look straight onto the pool. We have a lovely tropical garden. A little terrace to have outdoor drinks or
09:29food. So Joju Alit is supposed to be a little bit more calm than the madness that we get over
09:36at Villa
09:37Joju with the little kids and the fish and the rabbits and the Paw Patrol mascots running about.
09:43So we've built it around the pool and it's very quiet here, very serene. All the parents like to come
09:50and sneak off into this one when we get a chance and sometimes the bigger kids come over take over
09:55this villa too. Thank you Bali Interiors for coming to take a peek in our paradise. See you soon. Bye!
10:12Bye!
10:13Bye!
10:13Bye!
10:13Okay.
