00:05It's the end of an era, the final Starcade event ever produced by WCW. The date is December 17th,
00:11we're back in Washington DC, 6,500 are in the MCI centre, an estimated 50,000 are watching at home
00:18which is even less than last month's abysmal mayhem pay-per-view, but WCW have put a bit more effort
00:24into promoting this show. Sid Vicious came back right after mayhem and he's gonna challenge
00:29Scottie Steiner tonight for the World Heavyweight title. We've also got Lex Luger once again
00:34trying to end Goldberg's streak in a rematch from last month's pay-per-view, and the insiders
00:38try to win their tag team titles back when they face the perfect event.
00:42The opening match is probably the match I'm looking forward to the most, the Young Dragons
00:46vs 3Count vs Noble in Courageous. This is a tag team ladder match but there's a contract
00:51hanging above the ring for a shot at the cruiserweight belt, this means it could turn into every
00:55man for himself, so let's see what happened and let's hope this whole event is at least
01:00a little entertaining.
01:06Cruiserweight Champion Chavo Guerrero comes out to provide commentary and he's now using
01:10Uncle Eddie's old WCW entrance music, haven't heard that tune in ages. The competitors get
01:16in the ring and the match has a real scary start when Shannon drops Kaz on his head after
01:20a bot suplex attempt. Kaz seems legitimately shook after the move and even though he pulls off
01:25a head scissor takedown, you can see there's something up when Shannon tries an arm drag.
01:29Both guys have definitely missed a step. So they wisely tag out, in comes Yang and Sugar
01:34Shane. Shane lures the other competitors out to the entranceway which allows Shannon to
01:39grab a ladder from under the ring. 3Count think they've pulled a fast one but the Dragons
01:42are quick to spoil, this little effort and it looks like Kaz is absolutely fine. Noble and
01:47Courageous ensure the Young Dragons don't win the match but Yang makes him pay with a dropkick
01:52on the ladder followed by a moonsault from Kaz. Things get proper messed up though and
01:57Kaz once again almost brains himself when Courageous and Noble drop him on a ladder. Not sure what's
02:02going on here but this is not the kind of match you want to take part in while having an
02:06off
02:06day. He gets out of the ring to hopefully properly compose himself while Noble and Courageous
02:11have a disagreement about who should grab the contract. This was bound to happen but before
02:15the two can get physical Yang comes in with a dropkick to Noble. Jamie then gets thrown
02:20into the ladder with a whole lot of force. Young Shannon gets super comboed and the combo's
02:24so awesome that it lifts him right up to the ladder. He tries a crossbody here but he ends
02:29up falling right into a gutbuster and Yang follows up with a corkscrew moonsault. Seriously impressive
02:34stuff here when you remember that this was effectively a corkscrew from the middle turnbuckle.
02:39It wouldn't be a match with these guys without a ton of diving attacks to the outside. Evan Courageous
02:44and Shannon Moore are particularly impressive here but all guys deserve credit really.
02:49Jamie Noble leaves the ring by being pushed off the ladder and then we see a tremendous
02:53spot with Evan standing on a bridge ladder and performing a power slam after Kaz tried
02:58a springboard attack. Insane work right here. Shannon tries a Famouser from the same bridge
03:03ladder which, okay, could have looked better but fair dues for trying it. And the chaos continues
03:08with Evan performing a swinging neckbreaker on Noble. Seeing guys legit bust their asses
03:13for WCW feels illegal man. We've now got two ladders in the ring and we've got Noble,
03:19Shane, Shannon and Yang all falling to the canvas. Lea Miao gets in the ring to stop Noble
03:24from grabbing the contract though she stops her attack when Evan comes to the rescue. We've
03:29now got a bigger third ladder in the ring and the young dragons use this for some double-team
03:33moves. And then a fourth ladder is used and the dragons are building themselves a fort,
03:38a fort that almost got knocked over when Three Count begin fighting back. We've now
03:42got guys trying to walk along the top of the ladder to retrieve the contract. Kaz gets dumped
03:47at the mat while Courageous falls on the top rope. Some good stuff here as Shannon Moore skins
03:52the cat before getting himself on top of the ladder. And after Noble gets taken out, Three Count
03:56have a decision to make. Who's going to take the contract and who's going to get a title
04:00shot against Chavo Guerrero? Well, when you're Three Count, you're Three Count for life. Except
04:05for Evan Courageous. So both guys grab the contract and that means, I assume, that both
04:11guys are in line for a Cruiserweight title shot. For WCW standards, this match was excellent and it
04:17has to rank up there as one of the company's best matches of the entire year. Kaz Hayashi didn't have
04:22a great time but what a showcase from WCW's young blood. Imagine if the WWF had these guys and
04:28imagine if these tag teams were mixing it up with the likes of Edge and Christian, the Hardys
04:32and the Dudleys. Yeah, it would be pretty great.
04:39Jim Duggan's backstage polishing his big hard stick when Lance Storm interrupts him. Duggan's
04:45been looking to get out of Team Canada but Lance says the fans won't take him back and besides,
04:50WCW were going to fire him if he didn't join the faction. Lance gives Duggan his maple leaf jacket
04:55and tells him to think about what he wants to do. Jeff Jarrett, who I'm personally going to be
05:00cheering for later tonight due to his extremely poor treatment in WCW, wants a change made to the
05:06filthy animal street fight that's going to take place later on. Jeff wants a bunkhouse brawl instead
05:11and seeing as we have no idea what a filthy animal street fight is, I'm going to hazard a guess
05:16and
05:16say it's the exact same as a bunkhouse match anyway. As a compromise, Mike Sanders agrees to a
05:22bunkhouse filthy animal street fight which just completely proves my point to be fair.
05:27We then cut to… oh my god, okay. Chronic are getting a phone call, apparently they're getting
05:33hired for a special job and they agree to take payment after the job's done, this goes against
05:38Chronic's usual policy but they agree to do it. Adams also admits that he's baked, so these guys must
05:44get stoned to the bone before sitting together in a sauna. Lance Storm took on Ernest Miller next,
05:50and of course Jim Duggan played a role in the match outcome. Before the bout got underway,
05:54Lance ripped on America for taking 37 days to finalise their presidential election results,
06:00and he says Team Canada stands as one tonight. Ernest Miller says he's going to send Storm back
06:05to Canada and he wants Lance to take fat stinky ass Mark Madden with him, and then Miller and Miss
06:11Jones had a pre-match dance. I do wish I had as much energy as Miss Jones. Speaking of Miss
06:17Jones,
06:17she and Major Gunn stepped into the ring when Lance and Ernest went outside. Fans popped for this
06:22potential showdown but nothing came of it. The men got back in the ring and they continued on as usual.
06:27In the end, a torn Jim Duggan made his way down to the ring just as Lance was trying a
06:32sunset flip.
06:33Hacksaw spared the kid from taking a shot with his 2x4 but he did punch Miller and this allowed Lance
06:38to
06:38get a submission win after applying a Canadian maple leaf. Duggan then got in the ring, he looked like
06:43he didn't want to be there, and he had every right to feel a bit uneasy because Team Canada end
06:48up turning
06:49on Duggan. The whole Hacksaw experiment comes to an end and Team Canada trim the fat, but you gotta
06:55ask yourself if the damage was already done. Miller wakes up, he clears the ring out, he puts on his
07:00ruby slippers, but he spares Hacksaw from taking a kick to the chin. The match itself was nothing you
07:06wouldn't see on a weekly episode of Nitro. I have no idea what Buff Bagwell's wearing,
07:13but looking like a sleazy second-rate pimp is certainly a choice. Buff says he's now a backstage
07:17interviewer and this, apparently, is going to give WCW a huge boost in ratings. His first interviewees
07:25are the filthy animals. Conan's also going for the pimp look, Ren Mysterio's very, very cold,
07:30and Billy Kidman didn't make any effort at all. Tigris for the win.
07:34Conan, like all of us, has no idea what a bunkhouse street fight's supposed to be,
07:39and Kidman says he's never bunked with a group of guys before. Absolutely hilarious,
07:43my fucking sides are completely gone. Backstage, the natural born thrillers are stopping Reno and
07:49Vito. The boys want Reno to come back to the faction, but Reno isn't gonna do it. Blood's thicker than
07:55water and Reno really likes banging his own sister. Okay, okay, we go backstage where Crowbar's a bit upset
08:01that Daphne didn't dress up in her 70s gear and Daphne says the whole 70s thing's making Crowbar
08:06lose his edge. No time to continue this riveting conversation though because Terry Funk blasts a
08:11fire extinguisher on Crowbar's face and our Hardcore title match gets underway. The Dirty
08:15Funker just came back on Nitro, he wants to reclaim the Hardcore title tonight at Starcade,
08:20and he begins by smacking Crowbar's head off a few trailers before throwing the champ into a dumpster.
08:25Crowbar gets put on a trailer ramp before Funk drops it to the ground and the two then go into
08:30the truck
08:30where Funk takes a few shots with a car bumper. Crowbar keeps the pressure on by removing his
08:35shelf and a few items fall on top of the challenger. Crowbar thinks he has it all figured out but
08:40when
08:40he comes rushing in at Terry, he takes a hip toss and gets put through a table. We continue on
08:45with
08:45Crowbar slamming a door shut on Terry's head which did look pretty effective. Terry returns the favor by
08:51doing the exact same to Crowbar. Funk then puts Crowbar in a pair of handcuffs and in what seems
08:56like to be a carbon copy of the 1999 Royal Rumble, Crowbar takes a ton of unprotected chair shots
09:01right to the head, though to be fair Mankind definitely took a whole lot more. Funk then uses
09:07a door to do more damage as the two make their way down to the ramp. Another chair gets used
09:12as Crowbar
09:12takes more shots. The commentators want the match stopped as Crowbar is now completely defenseless but
09:17I don't know guys, it doesn't have the same emotional impact as Rock vs Mankind at all.
09:23Daphne saves Crowbar from getting put through a table, Crowbar is able to use the chair when Funk
09:28goes after Daphne. The dirty Funker gets put on a table and while handcuffed, Crowbar performs a
09:33plancha but he only gets a two. Daphne launches a chair into Funk's head but she shouldn't have
09:38bothered as Terry ends up winning the match after Crowbar takes another shot of the head followed by a
09:43piledriver on top of that metal door. So Funk is the new WCW Hardcore Champion. I didn't expect miracles
09:50here, I expected a standard WCW Hardcore match and in that respect it was a bit better than usual.
09:56It's just nice to see Terry Funk perform no matter what the circumstances.
10:05Mean Gene wants to know why Lance Storm attacked the great Jim Duggan and Lance says a leopard can't
10:10change its spots. Once American, always American. So Lance, please explain Major Guns and he looks
10:16skipper to me then. The Major tells Mean Gene not to blame Canada but blame himself and Mean Gene says
10:22Hey listen sweetheart you stick around I'll give you an opportunity to fly that Canadian flag on another
10:27pole. You get my drift? Old Mean Gene gets extra spicy during WCW pay-per-views doesn't he?
10:35The total package is making sure he's prepared for tonight. He's got his trunks, he's got his boots,
10:41his bum injections and a pair of brass knucks that look like brass knucks so we'll call them brass knucks.
10:46Looks like Lex has a little insurance policy for tonight as he looks to end Goldberg's career at
10:51Starcade. Next up we've got Vito and Reno taking on Chronic and we've found out all about Chronic's
10:58special little job during this match. After some pretty standard tag team work Adams went to the
11:03outside and he approached Marie for payment. Fans thought Marie was possibly setting Reno and Vito
11:08up but this was just a red herring. Clark performs a cannonball from the apron that wipes Vito out,
11:14Adams continues to ask Marie for money but Marie says she has no idea what Brian's talking about.
11:20Back in the ring Adams delivers his full Nelson slam and Chronic perform a double shoulder block and just
11:25as Clark applies a chin lock the natural born thrillers come out to get a closer look. You see
11:30chin locks look much better in person and these guys want to get close to greatness. Vito continues
11:35to get rekt and he struggles to make it to his corner for a tag. He and Clark collide and
11:39do each
11:39other when both men go for a crossbody and this finally gives Vito a chance to tag in his brother.
11:44Only it's a swerve bro. Reno attacks Vito, Chronic have a good laugh as Vito takes the roll of the
11:50dice.
11:51The two Bryans force the referee to count Reno's cover on Vito and Reno pays Chronic
11:55a handsome sum of Monopoly money after the match. Vito takes the meltdown in the high times after the
12:02bell so in short, Reno's turned his back on his family to rejoin the natural born thrillers.
12:07I wish I cared but I really don't. Again, this is a match you'd see on Nitro.
12:13As a matter of fact, it wouldn't have been out of place on an episode of Thunder.
12:21Sugar's Shane Helms confirms that both members of Three Count are the number one contenders
12:25for the Cruiserweight title. Chavo shows up to show the boys what they'll be fighting for
12:29and Guerrero then attacks both guys before saying the Cruiserweight belt is the working man's belt.
12:34Whatever you say, Chavo. Bagwell wants to know if the MIA are going to break up after Chavo's actions
12:41over the past few weeks and General Rexon says tonight isn't about Chavo, it's about the General
12:46defending his US title against Shane Douglas. Bam Bam Bigelow takes on Mike Awesome next
12:52in an ambulance match and Mike ditched his 70s guy gimmick as soon as he laid eyes on the ambulance.
12:57We're back to the career killer Mike Awesome which is quite ironic seeing as the 70s guy gimmick
13:02has pretty much already killed Mike's career. The match begins with Mike performing his cornerback
13:07elbow before the two head to the outside and we fall right into the usual stuff here with the guys
13:12taking guard rail bumps and what have you. Awesome uses the ring bell and the chair to do some damage,
13:17Bigelow throws a drink all over his opponent but the cup only had ice in it. Awesome takes a few
13:22chair
13:22shots as the two begin making their way up the ramp and again this is nothing we can't see on
13:27weekly
13:28tv and on top of that it's just kinda boring, especially after the hardcore match earlier on. Awesome gets
13:34the ambulance door closed on his back, looks terrible especially after the funk and crowbar spot.
13:39Bam Bam also puts his hand through the window before the two head to the front of the vehicle,
13:44you can see the driver sitting there watching the action unfold and I guarantee you this guy wasn't
13:49a wrestling fan. Turns out the fans in DC have the exact same thoughts as I do, they're chanting
13:54boring as the two make their way back down to the ring and it's actually remarkable that such an elaborate
13:58gimmick match can produce boring chants from the audience. The only thing that happens in the ring is a
14:03DDT from Bigelow before the two head outside again, it's fucking dreadful. There's a comical bump at the
14:09ring steps when Awesome launches his opponent, Mike then grabs a table, he sets Bam Bam up before getting
14:14himself a big run up from the top of the ramp, it's hilarious how Awesome slows down right before
14:19impact and yeah, he takes a back body drop through the table. Up to the ambulance we go, Bigelow removes
14:25the light bar from the vehicle but this ends up backfiring when Mike takes it away from him. Bigelow takes
14:30a
14:31shot, he falls into the ambulance and fair enough this was a pretty unique finish but it doesn't make up
14:36for
14:36the dreadful action beforehand. Mike Awesome wins and the commentators wonder if this means the 70s guy
14:42gimmick has now come to an end. A pretty bad match here at Stargate 2000. Vito wishes his brother a
14:50Merry Christmas and he says the natural born thrillers are his real family. The perfect events say the insiders are
14:56not
14:56going to win their tag team belts back tonight and they call their opponents a pair of losers. Very original.
15:01Mean Gene says he's going to slap the crap out of Mike Sanders one of these days and this was
15:06honestly
15:06the highlight of the whole promo. Shane Douglas vs General Rexion ladies and gents. The general
15:13accidentally put Tory Wilson out of action so Shane wants revenge and he also wants the US title.
15:18Even at Starcade Shane gets his pre-match promo time where he says a whole load of nothing as usual.
15:23The general comes down and it's all Shane from the get go but the general then no-sells and he
15:29rections up before starting his comeback. Shane takes a few chops, a clothesline and a corner splash
15:35before the two go outside. They fight at the guardrail, they fight at the commentary table. Clearly
15:40neither man watched that abysmal ambulance match because I don't think anyone in the audience wants
15:44to see more ringside brawling, they want action in the ring. Shane pulls the middle rope right into the
15:50general's wee rection, he hits multiple low blows right in front of the referee and because Morris
15:55has no balls, these shots are ineffective. Morris rections up again before applying a bear hug and
16:01you can hear the fans groan as the bear hug gets applied. Zero awareness from the competitors and it
16:07gets even more ridiculous when Morris applies the bear hug for a second time. And a third time, my god.
16:13Shane gets out, the champ falls on top of the challenger when Douglas goes for a body slam. Hugh goes
16:18up for the
16:18no laughing matter but Shane stops it before delivering a pile driver and a swinging neckbreaker. You can
16:24feel the crowd getting ever so slightly more into the match right here but they get brought right
16:28back down when Douglas applies a neck wrench. You'd honestly think the guys were sabotaging the match
16:33on purpose. On the outside, Shane gets his head clipped off the ring post and I'm not sure what Morris
16:38was trying to do here. And Morris says that's it as he looks for the no laughing matter once again
16:43back
16:43in the ring, thank god. The move misses, I'm so angry. A busted open Shane then pulls out his favourite
16:49weapon, his little chain, but he misses his target and the chain falls on the mat. Chavo Guerrero shows
16:55up, he takes the chain and he passes it to the franchise. The referee sees the weapon in Shane's
17:00hand and this results in Charles Robinson calling for the bell. So did Chavo try to help Shane or did
17:05he purposely get Shane disqualified? Chavo tries to stop Douglas from attacking Rexhan after the bell,
17:11he ends up getting whacked, both he and Rexhan take the franchisor and the MIA have to run down to
17:16stop Shane's attack. In the end, AWOL tends to Hugh Morris while Corporal Cajun tends to Chavo,
17:22so who knows what's going on with this faction right now. Credit to WCW for the recent push they've
17:28given Chavo, Chavo's involvement in this whole thing was more interesting than the match itself.
17:36Big Poppa Pump says the keyword for tonight is BEAT. Scott's gonna beat Sid Vicious at Starcade,
17:43and then the freaks are gonna beat Scotty when they get back to the hotel room. Not joking,
17:47he actually said that. Scotty Steiner was a completely different breed of WCW superstar.
17:53A video then plays that says our world's about to change, yeah yeah yeah. This time the video
17:59actually includes Glacier doing Kung Fu, and that video footage is lifted directly from 1996. This
18:05means Glacier is not at Starcade, he's continuing to make us wait, again. I'd be angry if I wasn't
18:12so disappointed already in this pay-per-view, but moving on. Pimp Daddy Bagwell interviews the insiders,
18:17and I can't believe I'm missing Pamela Paulshock right now. Nash takes Bagwell's hat and he pretends
18:22to be an old-timer, he calls the perfect event a pair of jagoffs, and the insiders are giving themselves
18:27an early Christmas present by claiming the tag team belts. Paige says he and Nash have found
18:32the fountain of youth, they're like fine wine in their prime, and when the interview wraps up,
18:37Buff needs to fill the time a little before the next match, and Nash laughs at Bagwell's attempt
18:41at being professional. Big Kev calls Bagwell Buff Masterson because he looks like Bat Masterson,
18:46and if you don't know who Bat Masterson is, well, here he is right here. He's a charming fella.
18:53Here we go, the bunkhouse brawl, filthy animals, no-hose barred, street fight, six-man, tornado,
18:59tag team match, I'm so confused right now, but let's go Double J. Double J wearing his slop
19:04knots on his head. Jeff says this is the first time such a match has ever taken place. You don't
19:10say,
19:10Jeff. The Bozo Brothers come out next, Scott Hudson calls this trio the Nashville World Order,
19:16and here come those dirty, stinking, filthy, rotten animals. For those who don't know, these guys have been
19:21acting like spoiled brats, throwing things at Jeff during interviews, stacking the deck against
19:26Double J during his matches. Jeff's been so poorly treated by these little punks that I really do
19:31feel Jeff should teach him a lesson and send him out of Starcade in an ambulance. We're already
19:36throwing trash cans, we're using weapons around the ring. There seems to be a bar inside the ring too,
19:41which no one dares to touch until it gets used for a big spot, and that's because that thing's about
19:45to crumble at any given moment. The spray-painted trash can gets used pretty extensively as the
19:50commentators begin to face the reality of this match. They wonder how one referee is supposed
19:55to maintain order, they wonder how exactly you're supposed to win this match, and they can't decide
20:00if they're rooting for the filthy animals or Team Jarrett. Jeff gets his head shoved into a popcorn
20:04maker, Rey Mysterio delivers a Bronco Buster to the Bozo Brothers, but Jeff avoids it by getting a foot up.
20:09Jeff performed the exact same counter on Nitro by the way, and yes, it's still awesome.
20:14To get a little revenge, Rey Mysterio delivers a low blow when Jarrett goes after Kidman,
20:18and then Jeff gets put through the flimsy bar which does get a good crowd reaction to be fair.
20:24I should mention here too that Tigress is on commentary and she keeps barking into her microphone,
20:30it's pretty annoying. Kidman hits Heavy D with a piece of wood before hitting himself for some
20:34unknown reason. The animals use a wrong way sign while performing a bulldog on top of the trash can,
20:40that sign gets used again when Mysterio jumps from the top rope, and we've got Rey Mysterio and
20:44Kidman performing a few double team moves on the Harris boys. My boy for the night Jeff Jarrett's
20:49doing terribly when he takes a bulldog from Rey Mysterio, but Jeff makes Mysterio pay when he
20:54powerbonds him into a dumpster, taking out the trash indeed. For some reason, the referee now decides
21:00it's time to gain some order and put the men into their respective corners, so I've no fucking idea
21:05what's going on here. The match is nearly over, and now they want the guys to tag in and out?
21:10Spinning sidewalk slam from Ron, or maybe Don, I don't care. Kidman takes a double big boot with
21:16one of the bozo brothers missing by a mile. Kidman comes back with his facebuster when Ron tries a
21:21powerbomb, and Rey Mysterio still out cold in that dumpster. If you'd have told me that there'd be a
21:26sleeper hold applied in a six-man bunkhouse street fight, I wouldn't have believed you, but my god,
21:31there it is. Kidman counters while calling Jeff a knobhead, and Double J takes a tornado bulldog before
21:36Billy Boy tags out. Here comes K-Dog all fired up. He dishes out rolling clotheslines to all three of
21:42his opponents. Jeff takes the K-factor, which makes Tigris spark again, but an H-bomb from the Harris
21:48boy sure does make her fuck up. Team Jared fetch a table as Rey Mysterio wakes up. Young Rey takes
21:54everyone out while using a broom, and he puts Jeff on that table. In the end, he overshoots his target,
21:59and it's Rey taking an H-bomb through the wood, and when Kidman goes up for the shooting star,
22:03he gets a bottle smashed over his head. Double J delivers the stroke, the Nashville World Order
22:08win this match, and yes, I am happy that Jeff won, but holy overbooked bollocks Batman. A hardcore
22:14match, an ambulance match, and a filthy rotten animals bunkhouse brawl street fight, hardcore
22:19six-man half-tornado half-regular tag, I don't know. It's too much, I tells you, it's too much.
22:30Bagwell says everyone respects Dwayne Bruce in WCW, everyone but Lex Luger. Sarge's greatest
22:37student, Billy Boyd Goldberg, is going to face Lex tonight and Sarge says he wishes he could face
22:42Lex instead, and so the total package attacks Mr. Bruce before making a quick escape.
22:48Next we've got the insiders trying to win their tag team titles back from the perfect
22:52event and the outcome of this one is so so predictable. Nash and Paige had to hand their
22:56belts over to the perfect event on Nitro because Big Kev pinned the illegal man when the insiders
23:01won the belts at Mayhem, and you just know this was done so the babyfaces could win the gold back
23:06at Starcade. Ric Flair appears after the entrances, he understands that Mike Sanders has a manager's
23:11license but if Mike gets inside the ring tonight then the insiders will be awarded the tag team belts,
23:16I'm actually surprised that they remembered that Mike had a manager's license.
23:19Corner clotheslines from Kevin Nash before we get the usual corner offense Kevin style,
23:25this all eats up a good two minutes of match time so we haven't got long to go folks.
23:29DDP tags in after Palumbo misses a leg drop, he performs a diving clothesline,
23:33the perfect event remember everything Coach Nash taught them and so we get some time wasting on the
23:38outside. Stasiak comes in to take a few shots in the corner, he gets his nut smashed into the ring
23:43post,
23:44Stasiak tries to fight back but he takes a belly to belly, and the insiders continue to dominate
23:48when Dallas performs a uranage. I'm surprised the insiders have been in control for this long but
23:53that all changes when Palumbo gets in the ring for a jungle kick, he calls it a jungle kick because
23:58it's jungle-y. Stasiak goes in the driver's seat with his jumping back elbow, Palumbo tags in for a
24:04front underhook suplex, the perfect event team up to lay a few boots in but things go downhill momentarily
24:09when Page gets whacked and he ends up falling on Stasiak's wiener. Never fair though because
24:14Chuck tags back in to do some more damage. We think Page is getting his break after a discus clothesline
24:19but he can't make it to his corner, both he and Palumbo go to the mat after they punch each
24:23other
24:23in the face, a low blow from jungle boy Palumbo also stops Page getting to his corner but after all
24:29that, all Page has to do is kick Chuck away and he's able to make the tag. You can instantly
24:34notice
24:34the crowd noise being piped in when Nash gets inside the ropes. Nash goes to work but on the outside,
24:39Sanders delivers a low blow to Page. Mike then gets on the apron to cause a distraction and Stasiak
24:45hits Kev with a tag team belt. Page delivers a diamond cutter that the cameras completely miss
24:50but they don't miss Mark Jindrak taking the move when the other natural born thrillers try to
24:54interfere in the match and the bout ends with Page stopping a Sean Tom bomb from Sean O'Hare and
24:59Nash
24:59pins Palumbo after a big boot in a jackknife powerbomb. I think this would have been a fun match for
25:04the
25:04folks inside the arena. There were times when the insiders looked like they were going to lose but you
25:09could have called this outcome weeks ago when Nash and Page handed the belts back to Mike Sanders.
25:14Fundamentally, there was nothing wrong here, it's just nothing we haven't seen before.
25:19Can Lex Luger defeat Goldberg and end Billy Boy's career? If you said yes, you must be mental. This
25:25one got a bit more personal when Goldberg's trainer and all round lovely guy Dwayne Bruce got involved
25:30but all this little gnome has done has become a burden to Billy Boy over the past few weeks. The
25:35two
25:35make their entrances, Goldberg marches right out of the ring to attack Lex at the ringside area,
25:40Billy Boy keeps the advantage at the commentary table and Lex takes a shot at the ring steps before
25:44the two finally get in the ring. Bill performs two short arm clotheslines, Luger looks like he's no
25:50match for Goldberg at all as Bill performs a single underhook suplex. The commentators say Lex must
25:55have something up his sleeve because up until this point he's done absolutely nothing and things go
26:00from bad to worse when Goldberg performs a power slam. You can hear some boos in the audience but
26:05you get what you pay for ladies and gents. Lex tries to leave the ring, Goldberg attacks him on
26:10the rampway. Billy Boy shouts payback in Lex's face as the onslaught continues but the onslaught takes
26:15a short break as Lex pushes his opponent into the ring post. Goldberg's able to avoid multiple chair
26:20shots as Dwayne Bruce begins making his way down to the ring alongside Buff Pimp Daddy. Buff's trying to
26:26convince Sarge to stay out of this match because Lex has lost his mind and I've no idea why Sarge
26:31is
26:31even here seeing as Goldberg's dominated the match, he doesn't need any help. Lex tries to use the
26:36referee as a shield for the spear but Bagwell pulls the official away, Goldberg still can't deliver the
26:42move and instead Lex sticks his head out of the ring and he gives Sarge a little punch on the
26:46nose,
26:46you fucking deserved it. Lex then uses his brass knucks to take Goldberg out and this only gets a two
26:52count.
26:52Bagwell then gets in the ring, he goes upstairs and he signals for the blockbuster, he seemingly aims
26:57for Lex Luger but he ends up taking out Goldberg and Lex throws Buff out of the ring before signalling
27:02for the rack. Goldberg grabs the ropes, Lex can't get him up, on the outside Buff lays out Sarge for
27:08some reason but back in the ring Goldberg performs a spear and a jackhammer on Luger. Goldberg wins the
27:14match, the commentators are a bit confused by Bagwell's actions but it becomes clear what's going on when
27:19Bagwell attacks Goldberg with a chair after the bell. Buff and Lex were working together and instead
27:25of selling this post-match attack like it's something serious, Goldberg just gets up and
27:29he starts posing to the fans as Lex and Buff head back up the ramp. It just totally negates any
27:34impact
27:34Bagwell's post-match beatdown may have had, as little as it may have been. Dogshit semi-main from WCW
27:41and it's another case of the opening match being the best bout on the card. Can Scottie Steiner and Sid
27:46save Starcade 2000 from being a total disaster? Let's find out.
27:55CEO Ric Flair brought Sid back to WCW and the Nature Boy handed Sid a title shot right after Mayhem.
28:02Physicality between these two has been kept to a minimum but both guys have been itching to get
28:06their hands on one another. You get the feeling that this one could also go rapidly downhill as both
28:11men make their entrances and check it out, Sid's now wearing long tights. Maybe he wants to cover up
28:17his legs in case they get badly damaged or perhaps snapped during a main event of the ECW match but
28:22surely that'll never happen. The two share offence in the corner and Sid ends up no-selling an atomic
28:28drop. A clothesline puts the champ on the mat and this gets followed up with a sidewalk slam. Steiner's
28:33already in trouble and he had to go out for a little break. He may have a great view right
28:37now,
28:38but Big Papa Pump better focus. Scott's idea of focusing is dropping to his knees and showing
28:43his opponent his big ol' peaks. He then challenges Sid for a classic test of strength and it's Sid
28:48who instantly drops to his knees. The power of Scottie Steiner on full display. It takes quite
28:53some time for the big man to rise up and, my my, a northern light suplex from Sid Vicious. Good
28:59stuff.
29:00This gets followed up with a leg drop, a big boot and a clothesline to the outside but Sid forgot
29:04all
29:04about Medasia. Scott's number one freak has a firm grip on Scottie's big lead pipe and Sid gets hit
29:10with it right across the back. Scott then uses a chair to keep Sid down and back in the ring
29:14we see
29:15the Steiner line, elbow drop, a backbreaker from Big Papa Pump in Scottie's belly to belly suplex.
29:20Scott then applies the recliner but Sid's too close to the ropes. The move has to get broken up so
29:24Scott
29:25performs a suplex which gets Sid back in the middle of the ring. Another recliner gets applied, the fans
29:30think it's over but Sid begins rising to his feet and do keep in mind that Steiner has dominated
29:35every one of his opponents with this move. So Medasia wants to help her man out and she tries
29:39a crossbody but this backfires terribly for the champion. The two get up, Sid performs a chokeslam,
29:45he's too slow to cover Scott so he decides to lock in a cobra clutch and try to get a
29:49submission win.
29:50In the midst of this move, Steiner hits the referee and when Scott gets slammed to the mat there's no
29:55one
29:55there to count the pinfall and so Scott's able to use his big lead pipe and Sid gets wrecked.
30:00Somehow this beating doesn't give Scott a pinfall victory so here comes Double J with his acoustic
30:05equaliser. Jeff aims for Sid, he ends up whacking Scott, Double J pulls referee Charles Robinson out
30:11of the ring and still Sid's able to kick out. Our match ends with Big Sid taking two low blows
30:17followed by an exploder suplex. The recliner gets locked in for a third time and Big Sid ends up
30:22getting knocked out. Big Papa Pump has defeated Sid Vicious and honestly this match was better than
30:27what I was expecting. I said it was either going to kick ass or be an absolute train wreck and
30:32really,
30:32I thought it was going to be a train wreck. But I was wrong in my initial assessment,
30:37it turns out it was neither of these things and it was just an average Big Papa Pump match.
30:45This show started off well but it absolutely tanked both during and after the chronic tag team match,
30:51from here it never recovered and it just didn't feel like a Starrcade event at all.
30:55It wasn't as mundane as Mayhem, the main event wasn't a disaster. You could see WCW trying to
31:01please fans with the Insiders tag team match and the bunkhouse street fight, but you would feel
31:06ripped off if you bought this one on pay per view. The WWF's Armageddon show was a one match pay
31:11per
31:11view. This event too was a one match pay per view but there's such a difference in the WWF's undercard
31:16in
31:16terms of general match quality and entertainment value. The WWF gets away with it because they
31:21still put on matches that have good bills and guys who don't tend to phone it in. WCW,
31:26meanwhile, are seemingly content on being mediocre and lazy. There's no excuse for that Shane Douglas
31:31vs Rekshin match, there's no excuse for the ambulance match. Goldberg vs Luger was a joke and
31:37yeah, it was a bad show really and I feel bad for the three tag teams in the opening match
31:42who work their
31:43asses off. But that's the final Starcade we're going to look at in Reliving the War folks and next we'll
