00:05Welcome to FallBrawl 99, taking place on September 12th in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
00:11I sure am excited to see a WarGames match, but I won't be seeing one at this pay-per-view.
00:16For the first time since the inception of FallBrawl, the double cage won't be making an appearance,
00:20and instead, WCW are going to present a match that's all about trust, lies, and deceip...
00:28It's world champion Hulk Hogan vs. Sting once again, only this time, the stingers going up against the red and
00:34yellow Hulk Hogan would have been great in 94 or 95.
00:38This is the first WCW pay-per-view since the beginning of reliving the war that Eric Bischoff hasn't overseen.
00:44Eric was fired two days before this show went on the air due to Time Warner feeling he was underperforming
00:50in all key areas,
00:51considering the money he was burning through, bad ratings, poor attendance, and underwhelming pay-per-view numbers.
00:57Eric's been replaced by WCW Vice President of Strategic Planning Bill Bush,
01:02the company are looking for a new creative director, and we all know what that means,
01:07the Vince Russo era is nearly upon us.
01:10Eric's story truly is fascinating though, he managed to overtake the WWF at one point in time,
01:15and no matter if you like the guy or not, the things he did on Nitro changed pro wrestling forever.
01:21But you gotta admit too, the WCW programming's been absolutely woeful in 1999,
01:27and he has made some stupid and costly decisions.
01:30We'll talk about this a bit more on next week's episode of Reliving the War.
01:34For now, let's see if Fall Brawl 99 feels any different now that Eric's gone.
01:38Our opening match looks like it has potential, the filthy animals vs. Vampiro in the ICP.
01:43So here we go, this is Fall Brawl 99.
01:52This one right here is a rematch from Road Wild, but there's a big difference in this bout.
01:57Something's missing, and that's Rey Mysterio's natural hair colour.
02:01Either Rey really liked the Slim Shady LP released in early 99,
02:05or he's leaving the filthy animals to join the Holly cousins.
02:09Loads of time wasting at the start, but it's the good kind of time wasting
02:12that gets the crowd all fired up.
02:14The faction formerly known as the Deadpool leave the ring because the fans are digging
02:18the filthy animals way too much,
02:20and by the time Shaggy 2dope and Billy Kidman are ready to lock up,
02:23the audience are clapping their hands and stomping their feet.
02:26Mr. 2dope thinks he's hot stuff in the early going,
02:29but a dropkick from Kidman puts him in his place,
02:31and if that didn't work, Billy follows up with a ton of kicks.
02:34Kidman then misses a stinger splash, and Shaggy's able to hit a clothesline,
02:38and things then take a bad turn with Billy's back suplex reversal looking pretty bad,
02:42and a wheelbarrow set-up looking even worse.
02:45Kidman almost stuck his head up Shaggy's ass.
02:47Still, all's forgiven with Rey Mysterio's springboard leg drop,
02:51and Eddie Guerrero's slingshot sent on.
02:53The filthy animals continue to impress with a Rey Mysterio springboard splash,
02:57but here comes Violent J stomping his feet and slapping his belly welly.
03:01He's very intimidating, isn't he?
03:03To be fair, he is a bit more successful than his clown compadre,
03:06but Vampiro wants in, and old Vampyballs immediately takes a Bronco Buster.
03:11The audience goes nuts, and it looks like we have a good crowd for Fall Brawl tonight,
03:15even Jushin Laggers going crazy for this match.
03:18We switch over to Billy Kidman and Violent J,
03:21and Kidman really doesn't like the ICP by the looks of things.
03:24J has to hide behind the referee, but he is able to come back with a DDT,
03:28and this allows Vampiro to pull off a seriously impressive powerbomb.
03:32Vamp isn't messing about with a hard shoulder block followed by his signature top rope heel kick.
03:37Shaggy 2-Dope comes in with a Davey Boy Smith running power slam
03:40before Violent J tries his luck against Billy Boy,
03:43but Kidman performs a clothesline, and in comes Little Slim Shady like a house on fire.
03:47Rey performs a beautiful lion salt,
03:49though his 619 fame leads the Vampiro and Violent J taking advantage on the outside.
03:55It's hard to see, but Rey trips up when getting sent to the guardrail,
03:58and this move puts Mysterio completely out of the match.
04:01It looks like he's legitimately injured.
04:04Mysterio tags in Eddie Guerrero, who beats the ever-loving crap out of Vampiro.
04:08Vamp falls on his ass when trying to counter a monkey flip,
04:11but he quickly recovers, and Eddie takes that modified Inziguri.
04:14This allows Shaggy 2-Dope to pull off his top rope leg drop.
04:18We then see a 3D attempt that didn't look great at all,
04:21but what did look great was Vampiro's top rope tilt-a-world slam to Billy Kidman.
04:24Vampiro forgot about Eddie, though,
04:26and the match ends with a missile dropkick from Latino Heat,
04:29followed by a shooting star press from Billy Kidman.
04:32Following the bowed, Eddie and Billy go out to check on Rey,
04:35and a trainer comes over soon afterward.
04:37Fortunately, the injury wasn't serious,
04:39and Rey was back to work two nights later for a WCW Saturday Night taping.
04:43A good opening match here at Fall Brawl 99, with a few minor hiccups.
04:53Kaz Hayashi pinned Lenny Lane on Nitro two weeks ago.
04:57Dusty Rhodes thinks young Kaz deserves a shot at Lenny Lane's Cruiserweight title,
05:01and Lenny begins this one off by skipping and prancing around the ring,
05:05which does get a positive reaction from the audience.
05:08Kaz replies by kicking Lenny's ass a few times,
05:10he pulls off a nice dropkick and heads his or takeover combination,
05:14Lenny decides to jump in his brother's arms because this is all too much,
05:19and Hayashi pulls off a twisting crossbody over the top rope to take both men out.
05:23When the match gets back in the ring,
05:25Lodi provides a little assistance,
05:27allowing Lenny to pull off a sit-down facebuster,
05:30the Cruiserweight champ tells the fans to talk to the hand because the face ain't listening,
05:34and Lane stays in control by countering a slingshot crossbody.
05:38We go back to the outside and Kaz gets in another dive over the top rope,
05:42he forgets that Lodi's out there and the challenger takes a bump at the guardrail,
05:46this allows Lane to apply a West Hollywood chin lock back inside the ropes.
05:51Hurricane Rana from Kaz,
05:52running bulldog from Lenny Lane,
05:54Kaz pulls off a great looking slingshot bulldog before signaling for the end,
05:58Dushin Lager in the crowd popped huge for Kaz's running powerbomb,
06:02and it looks like Kaz might become Cruiserweight champion following a dive in Hurricane Rana,
06:06but Lenny kicks out of a forward role,
06:09and gonna admit, this match has really picked up in these last few moments.
06:14Unfortunately though, Kaz didn't have enough to become Cruiserweight champion,
06:17he's forced to take out Lodi which completely threw him off his game,
06:21Lenny ends up winning with a full Nelson facebuster,
06:24and Lenny Lane is still Cruiserweight champion.
06:27This one was a slow starter,
06:28but the false finishes kept fans in attendance on the edge of their seats,
06:32I'm almost afraid to say it,
06:34but Fall Brawl is now two for two in terms of decent matches.
06:37Could we really be seeing the first good WCW pay-per-views in Spring Stampede earlier this year?
06:46Sting comes out for an interview with Mean Gene Okerlund,
06:48and Sting says he's almost done with Lex Luger,
06:52their friendships hanging on by a thread.
06:54You see, on Nitro two weeks ago,
06:56Lex accused Hulk Hogan of driving the White Hummer that almost killed Kevin Nash,
07:00and Lex has been telling Sting that Hulk Hogan can't be trusted.
07:04Last week on Nitro, someone jumped Sting in Hulk Hogan's dressing room,
07:08Bret Hart and Hulk Hogan blamed it on Luger while Lex blamed it on Hogan,
07:11so Sting isn't sure who's manipulating him right now,
07:15and it seems like he doesn't want to outright accuse his old friend Flexy Lexy of being a dirty rat.
07:21Sting says tonight's huge,
07:23it's a big night for the Stinger,
07:25and the icon does not want Lex to show up during this main event tonight.
07:28Sting says Hulk's on the up and up,
07:31the challenger has no problem at all with the champion,
07:33the Stinger is back in black,
07:35and the Hulkster will know that it's showtime tonight in the main event.
07:39Next up, we have a no-holds-barred tag team match,
07:42Shane Douglas and Dean Malenko representing the revolution,
07:45versus Brian Nobbs and Hugh Morris representing the first family.
07:49This is a match we've already seen on Nitro,
07:51it's a feud that's already become tedious,
07:53even though it's only been going on for around a month or so,
07:56and it began with Dean Malenko going on a dick-kicking spree
07:59before the match spilled to the outside.
08:01The two teams spend quite a lot of time brawling around the ring here,
08:04with Dean focusing on complete tit Brian Nobbs,
08:06while Shane drops the ring steps on Hugh Morris' back,
08:09though Brian gets a little revenge for his partner
08:11by shoving his sweaty, stinking armpit in Shane's face.
08:14This makes Shane see red,
08:16and Nobbs gets his head taken off with a clothesline,
08:18and Dino Machino comes in to bend Brian's wrist for a bit,
08:22that'll teach him.
08:23Shane comes back in for a reverse neck snap on Hugh Morris,
08:26and the little enthusiasm I had for this match
08:28is quickly dwindling away the longer it goes on.
08:31I just can't see past Morris and Nobbs
08:33being anything more than low mid-carders,
08:35and when you look at all the WCW talent left off this card,
08:39it's kind of shocking they got booked at all.
08:41But anyway, our match wraps up with a hot tag to Dean Malenko,
08:44and Dean takes both family members out,
08:46along with Jimmy Hart.
08:47Hart gets whacked off the apron,
08:48and Shane's nowhere to be found,
08:49as Morris begins fighting back,
08:51and in the end, Morris wins with his no laughing matter moonsault
08:54thanks to Brian tripping Dean up while standing on the outside.
08:58Shane was on the outside too,
08:59yet he showed no urgency going after Nobbs,
09:02nor breaking up the cover that won Hugh Morris the match.
09:05So, the whole thing made the revolution look terrible in my opinion,
09:08and this is a match where Douglas and Malenko
09:10wouldn't have gained much from winning anyway.
09:12Nothing necessarily wrong with the in-ring action here,
09:15the match was just badly booked,
09:17and it was never going to be a show stealer anyway.
09:25Saturn looks to do what his revolution teammates couldn't do,
09:29win a match at Fall Brawl 99.
09:31He's getting a shot at Rick Steiner's TV title next,
09:33and this is one I was looking forward to,
09:35just based on how physical these two got on Nitro,
09:38I'm hoping for a hard-hitting championship match.
09:40Tony Schiavone announces that Buff Bagwell still hasn't arrived to the arena,
09:44and he's got a match next with Berlin,
09:46but we'll talk about that in a moment.
09:48Rick takes the challenger down and Perry falls victim to a Steiner line,
09:51but the challenger comes back with a standing sidekick
09:53before delivering a springboard leg drop.
09:56The commentators continue to talk about Buff Bagwell not showing up to the arena
09:59as Perry dives through the middle ropes.
10:01Back in the ring, we see a German suplex from Perry,
10:04and the challenger's looking good here,
10:05but then Rick performs a low blow behind the referee's back.
10:08Speaking of which,
10:09Nick Patrick's wearing a black armband tonight,
10:11as is every referee on this show,
10:14and a few wrestlers.
10:15This is out of respect for Mark Curtis,
10:17real name Brian Hildebrandt,
10:19who passed away on the 8th of September, 1999.
10:22Curtis was a favourite on Reliving the War,
10:24and it's pretty cool that loads of people got to see him for the first time
10:27through this video series.
10:29His ashes would get used on a WCW Nitro Pyro display
10:32because his final wish was to be part of the wrestling show one more time.
10:37Anyway, we go to the outside where Perry gets thrown into the ring steps.
10:41The DFG then pulls off a DDT on the exposed floor,
10:44which doesn't get a reaction at all.
10:46Back in the ring, it's Perry's turn to take a German suplex,
10:48and this gets followed up with another Steiner line.
10:51We go to the mat where Rick applies a single leg crab,
10:54Saturn makes it to the ropes,
10:55and when the move gets applied for the second time,
10:57the fans begin booing.
10:59Rick's dominant performance is taking fans out of the match a bit,
11:02but Rick doesn't care.
11:03Saturn takes two belly-to-belly suplexes
11:05before getting set up on the top rope,
11:07but Perry completely no-sails all that offense
11:10as he performs a missile dropkick and a springboard forearm.
11:13Rick answers with his scooped horse slam,
11:15but out of nowhere,
11:16Saturn fires back with his signature Death Valley driver.
11:19We think it's all over,
11:21but Perry takes way too long covering his opponent,
11:24and that's all she wrote, folks.
11:25Perry tries to stop a Steiner bulldog,
11:28but it's no good.
11:29The dog-faced gremlin pulls off his finishing move,
11:31and Rick Steiner wins a pretty underwhelming match,
11:34to be honest.
11:35I got my hopes up for this one,
11:36and it just wasn't all that good.
11:38The Revolution have now lost two matches,
11:40Chris Benoit has to face Sid Vicious later on,
11:43so it might be a very bad night for the group.
11:50Hulk Hogan says if he wanted to put the knife in Sting's back,
11:53he would have done so already.
11:55Hogan's a bit fed up of everyone questioning him backstage,
11:58even though he's said over and over again
12:00that he's no longer a dirtbag,
12:02and Hulk will prove himself tonight at Fall Brawl.
12:04Hogan and Sting are friends,
12:06but when the bell rings,
12:07it's go time, brother.
12:08And if Luger or anyone else wants to interfere,
12:11then Hulkamania will run wild on their asses.
12:14The commentators wonder exactly what Lex Luger's motivations are.
12:18If Hogan is telling the truth,
12:20then why's Lex doing all this?
12:22Shivani then repeats that Buff Bagwell
12:24has not shown up to the building.
12:26It's now time for Buff's match,
12:27so a replacement wrestler's stepped up to the plate,
12:30and that replacement is Hacksaw Jim Duggan.
12:32In reality, Buff Bagwell refused to do the J-O-B.
12:36He felt that Berlin was underneath him
12:38and he flat out refused to go to the ring to wrestle his match.
12:41I do wonder if this would have happened
12:43if Eric Bischoff was backstage,
12:44but Bagwell said that doesn't work for me, brother.
12:47And so we have Hacksaw Jim Duggan versus Berlin.
13:03Both men make their entrances,
13:05and you might be ready to pat Hacksaw on the back
13:07and call him a good little soldier for taking Bagwell's place,
13:10but hold your praise back for just a moment
13:12because Hacksaw goes out of his way
13:14to make Berlin look like shit.
13:16Hacksaw once said on the WCW Live internet show
13:19that he doesn't get used as much
13:21because he doesn't like putting young guys over,
13:23and we all know that Duggan during this time period
13:26isn't what anyone would call a master seller,
13:29but the no-selling he partakes in here
13:31is truly staggering
13:32and you can see Berlin looking at him multiple times
13:35thinking, what the hell are you doing?
13:37This isn't the first time Alex Wright's had to deal
13:40with difficult opponents in the ring
13:41and it's a shame Duggan felt he had to do this
13:44because it didn't make Berlin look bad,
13:46no, it made Hacksaw look really bad.
13:49Watch it back yourself and you'll see it clear as day.
13:52It's actually frustrating to watch.
13:54Duggan performs two stiff clotheslines
13:56before sending Berlin out of the ring,
13:58Alex seems a bit taken back by what's going on.
14:00He gets back in the ring
14:01and Duggan stops a kick before hitting an atomic drop
14:04and a double X handle puts Alex on the mat.
14:07Berlin takes matters into his own hands
14:09by throwing all his body weight into a clothesline.
14:12He then performs a snapmare,
14:14but Hacksaw then gets to his feet
14:15when Alex stands on his face
14:17and Berlin applies a headlock
14:18while no doubt trying to cool the big man down a bit.
14:21Hacksaw no-sells a European uppercut,
14:23the two then trade blows
14:24and Alex has to poke his opponent in the eye
14:26to get the upper hand
14:27and Duggan goes down to the mat for a sleeper
14:29which he eventually breaks out of.
14:32Berlin is able to get more offense in,
14:34a corner boot, an elbow drop
14:36and a choke at the ropes.
14:37Duggan then starts walking around the ring
14:39and he hooks Berlin in with a front face lock
14:41and things get scrappy here
14:42when Berlin tries a fireman's carry.
14:45Duggan's all over Alex here
14:46and it gets to a point
14:47where Alex looks to the referee
14:49as if to say,
14:50what the fuck am I supposed to do here?
14:52He then has to give a clean break at the ropes
14:54and do remember,
14:55Berlin's supposed to be the heel.
14:57We go back to a waistlock
14:58and Duggan goes to the mat.
15:00He refuses to get put in an armbar
15:02and instead,
15:03Berlin settles for a chancery
15:04followed by another sleeper.
15:06He then shakes his head
15:08at this absolute bullshit from his opponent
15:10but he has no choice
15:11but to keep Duggan down
15:12for as long as possible.
15:14Eventually, Duggan gets out
15:15and Alex takes a back body drop.
15:17He goes to the outside
15:18where his big unnamed bodyguard
15:20exposes the concrete floor
15:22and this guy ends up taking Jim out
15:24with a forearm shot.
15:25It looks like Duggan just ran into a wall.
15:28The competitors get back in the ring,
15:30Duggan has to turn in position
15:31when taking a neckbreaker
15:32and that's it.
15:33Berlin wins a match
15:35that was intentionally made terrible
15:36by his veteran opponent.
15:38Backstage,
15:39Buff Bagwell pretends
15:40he only got to the arena,
15:42Mike Graham tells him his match is over
15:43and Buff won't be performing tonight
15:45so if you want to blame this all on Buff Bagwell,
15:48you're absolutely more than welcome to.
15:50He runs down to the ring to give Hacksaw a hug
15:52but Duggan wants no part of it.
15:54Not sure if this was necessary to be honest
15:56but there you go.
16:02Up next,
16:03it's a tag team championship match,
16:05champions,
16:06the Wyndham Brothers vs. Harlem Heat.
16:08The tag titles have been hot potatoed a fair bit as of late
16:11so let's see if the trend continues
16:13tonight at fall brawl.
16:14Harlem Heat still not wearing much in ring gear
16:16and it's gotten to a point
16:17where I'm going to voice my disapproval
16:19in form of a written letter,
16:21though I don't know if WCW has a male guy at the moment,
16:23the office is in shambles.
16:26It's the brothers Wyndham representing the rednecks
16:28with Kurt Hennig lending his support on the outside,
16:31his manager's license must have came in the post that morning
16:33so maybe WCW does have a male guy.
16:37After a brief stare down between the two teams,
16:39Booker and Kendall start off
16:40with Mr. T taking the early lead,
16:42forcing Kendall to bail to the outside.
16:44Booker goes out to retrieve his adversary
16:46but he gets jumped as soon as both men roll back inside the ring.
16:50Kendall can't even do cheap shots correctly
16:52as he immediately gets put on his arse from a Booker T forearm
16:55before tagging in Big Brother Barry.
16:57Booker scores with an arm drag,
16:59some right hands and a spin kick
17:00before he himself tags his partner into the fray.
17:03A double suplex keeps Barry on the back foot
17:05as does an atomic drop from Stevie Ray
17:07but a thumb to the eye allows Barry to tag his partner back in
17:10and Kendall throws a few right hands.
17:12Stevie Ray is proficient in the ways of King's Road
17:15as he no-sails the punches
17:16before laying in a few of his own
17:18but a boot to the face slows the big man down
17:20and Barry takes the opportunity to get in a cheap shot.
17:23The champions maintain control
17:24as they frequently tag in and out
17:26but Stevie's able to connect with a desperation power slam
17:29only to once again get a thumb to the eye.
17:32Booker gets the tag and immediately goes to work,
17:34dropping Kendall with a Harlem sidekick
17:36followed by a correctly called sidewalk slam from Shabonny.
17:39Kurt then jumps on the apron,
17:41Booker collides with him
17:42but Book's still able to hit another Harlem sidekick to Kendall
17:45before being thrown out through the ropes down to the floor.
17:48The good ol' boys destroy Booker on the outside
17:50with Hennig doing most of the damage
17:52and the champions continue to isolate Booker back inside the ropes,
17:56the highlight of which being a pay-per-view chin lock from Kendall.
17:59Booker fights out and he connects with an axe kick
18:01but the numbers game proves too much once again
18:04as Booker gets battered on the outside.
18:06After more redneck roughhousing,
18:08Booker's finally able to make a tag
18:09but the referee misses it and the assault continues.
18:13When the ref misses a second tag,
18:15Stevie Ray decides to take matters into his own hands
18:18as he lays into the tag team champions
18:20but the momentum's quickly derailed
18:22as he gets clobbered in the noggin from Kurt's cowbell.
18:25This time, it's the West Texas rednecks
18:27who get screwed over by the ref
18:28as he's distracted by Booker brawling with Kurt and Barry on the outside.
18:32Kendall argues with the official,
18:34Booker climbs up top to deliver his missile dropkick
18:36and just like that, Harlem Heat become nine-time tag team champions.
18:41This one was actually fine,
18:42no real complaints at all except maybe it was a touch too long.
18:46Either way, we once again have new WCW tag champions
18:50and once again, it's Harlem Heat.
18:52Let's hope they can hold onto the belts
18:54for a bit longer than a few weeks
18:55but this is WCW, remember,
18:58so I won't hold my breath.
19:04It's time to kick or be kicking
19:06as Big Sid Vicious challenges Chris Benoit
19:08for the US Championship.
19:09The commentary team are once again
19:11banging on about Sid's undefeated streak
19:13which we proved was a load of bollocks
19:15during their old wild video,
19:16so we'll just breeze on past it for this one.
19:19The Cripplers look in the safe face
19:21for the revolution as they're 0-2 at fall brawl,
19:24so let's see if the champion can retain his title
19:26and his faction's pride.
19:28Sid seems more interested in smack-talking the audience
19:31than engaging with his opponent,
19:33but when it's time to lock up,
19:34the big man throws the champion halfway across the ring
19:37before sending Benoit to the floor
19:38following his shoulder block.
19:40After yet more stalling,
19:42Benoit gets back in the ring
19:43and Sid takes control by choking Chris at the ropes.
19:45Benoit is able to slide under the big man
19:47and take him down with a dragon screw
19:49before attacking Sid's leg while using the ring ropes.
19:52Benoit then utilises a stand on Indian death lock,
19:55but a quick thumb to the eye
19:56puts Sid right back in the driver's seat.
19:58More, ahem, methodical offence from the challenger
20:01is Sid slowly,
20:02and I really do emphasise that word,
20:05starts to wear down the crippler,
20:06including several kicks in the corner.
20:08Sid charges at Benoit,
20:10but he misses his attack
20:11and he just falls to the mat.
20:13It's pretty funny to be fair,
20:15and Chris takes advantage
20:16by wrapping Sid's leg around the ring post.
20:19He then sandwiches Sid's leg
20:20between the ring post and the ring steps
20:22and the chump delivers a dropkick,
20:24crushing Big Sid between the two objects.
20:27This act makes Tony Schiavone scream
20:28holy christmas,
20:30which did get a chuckle from me.
20:32This match is just a barrel of laughs.
20:34Chris throws Sid back inside
20:35and he goes for a crossbody.
20:37Sid catches him with ease,
20:38showing no ill effects of having his leg crushed,
20:41so what was the point?
20:42His attempt at a slam gets reversed though
20:45and Benoit connects with a German suplex.
20:47Benoit then looks for a crucifix,
20:49but the big man falls backwards
20:50and the champion gets drilled to the mat.
20:52Sid then remembers to sell his leg
20:54before applying a cobra clutch,
20:56which he turns into a slam,
20:57but it only garners a two count.
20:59Oh, here we go.
21:00If the cobra clutch didn't get a win,
21:01then a chinlock will do the job
21:03as vicious locks one in.
21:04I don't know how,
21:05but Benoit is able to break it,
21:07so some real determination on display
21:09here at Fall Brawl.
21:10A desperation sunset flip from Benoit
21:12only succeeds in him getting Sid's balls in his face,
21:15but it seems to do the trick
21:16as Benoit fights back into it
21:18with a dropkick to the leg
21:19before going for the crossface.
21:20Sid does tap the mat,
21:22which makes the crowd think he's just given up,
21:24but Charles Robinson says that he didn't submit
21:26and it looks like it's Sid just being Sid.
21:28The big man gets his foot on the ropes
21:30to break the hold,
21:31so Chris goes up for the diving headbutt.
21:33Sid rolls out of the way
21:34and Benoit crashes to the mat.
21:35The big man then picks Chris up
21:37before sending him right back down to the canvas
21:39with his signature powerbomb,
21:40and Sid makes the cover to become
21:42the new WCW United States Champion.
21:45Man, this is a hard one to dissect.
21:47The in-ring action was decent,
21:49but there was so much wasted motion
21:50and a crippling amount of stalling,
21:52pun fully intended.
21:54It really took any momentum the two had
21:56and just cut the legs out from underneath the match,
21:59making the whole thing from belt to belt suffer quite a bit.
22:02But despite all that,
22:03it's another win for Big Sid,
22:05the new master and ruler of the United States.
22:11DDP and Goldberg haven't met one-on-one on pay-per-views
22:14since last year's Halloween Havoc.
22:16That match was arguably the best of either man's WCW run,
22:19so let's see how they fare 11 months later.
22:22Page is out first
22:23and he has a few words for his opponent,
22:24telling Goldberg to get out here
22:26and find out why Page is the greatest
22:28two-time world champion of all time.
22:30An oddly specific threat for sure.
22:32Billy Boy gets his usual great reception
22:34as he makes his way down to the ring,
22:36say what you want about Goldberg,
22:38but he still has that aura around him
22:40and he's still presented as an absolute world-beater.
22:42Why people continue to deny this all these years later
22:45is beyond me when the proof is right there
22:48for everyone to see.
22:49The referee checks over both competitors before the bout
22:52and it's a good thing he did
22:53as he finds a chain tucked into DDP's tights.
22:56Page angrily shoves the ref
22:57and a roll of quarters falls out from the sleeves of his jacket.
23:00That no-good Diamond Dallas Page, eh?
23:03Dallas uses the distraction to jump Goldberg
23:05and the two slug it out
23:06with Bill getting the better of the exchange,
23:08sending Page to the outside.
23:10He gets back in the ring
23:11and the two lock it up
23:12with Goldberg putting on an aggressive side headlock
23:15before running Page over with a shoulder block.
23:17Dallas applies a side headlock of his own
23:19but Goldberg easily gets out of it
23:21and DDP seems a bit shaken here in the early going.
23:24Page gets sent to the floor once again
23:26and then he grabs a mic
23:28saying if the fans don't stop chanting Goldberg
23:30then he's gonna leave.
23:32Really?
23:32I mean, this is the semi-main of a pay-per-view
23:35not the opener of a house show.
23:38Page jumps the barricade
23:39Goldberg retrieves him
23:40and he brings him back to the ringside area.
23:42Back in the ring, Goldberg tries a power slam
23:44Page slides down
23:45and he looks for a diamond cutter
23:47Goldberg counters
23:48and he does eventually hit that power slam
23:50he was initially going for.
23:51Page hits a low blow
23:52whilst raking the official's eyes
23:54lightning fast shenanigans folks
23:56all so he can reach into his tights
23:58and grab yet another weapon
24:00brass knucks that don't look like brass knucks
24:02but we'll call them brass knucks anyway
24:03which he uses to drop Goldberg
24:05before disposing of the evidence.
24:07He then lays in a few boots
24:09before choking Billy Boy at the ropes
24:10while continuing to jaw jack with the audience.
24:13Page then uses that weapon he has in his tights
24:15I really should rephrase that
24:17but anyway
24:18he whacks Billy in the head with it once again
24:20before scoring with the real people's elbow.
24:22Three chin locks in the last three matches ladies and gents.
24:25As much as we all love a good chin lock
24:28sometimes you gotta change it up a bit
24:30only joking
24:31this is absolutely immense.
24:33Goldberg gets out
24:33and he screams right in DDP's face
24:35before connecting with a number of right hands
24:37and a big boot.
24:38He sends Page in for a hip toss
24:40but DDP counters in midair
24:42and he turns it into a DDT.
24:43Good job
24:44but it only gets a two count.
24:46Page then looks for a spear
24:47but he gets caught with a butterfly suplex
24:49from Billy Boy
24:50and this is the cue for the triad
24:51to come down the ringside.
24:53Bam Bam distracts the referee
24:54while Kenyon cracks something over Goldberg's head.
24:57DDP hits his twisting uranagi
24:59but it only gets him a two count
25:00which leads to him getting in the referee's face
25:02as the triad look to double team Goldberg.
25:05Predictable results ensue
25:06as Goldberg takes them both out
25:08before DDP turns around to get hit with a spear.
25:10Goldberg picks Page up for the jackhammer
25:12and Goldberg once again defeats Diamond Dallas Page
25:15on pay-per-view.
25:17We all know that this one
25:18wasn't going to live up to the Halloween Havoc match
25:20but it fell so short of even lowered expectations
25:23that it became emblematic of the problems
25:25with WCW in 1999.
25:28Much like the previous match on this card,
25:30there was far too much time wasting
25:32and any flow that there may have been
25:34was completely ruined by it.
25:36It's a real shame
25:37because I was looking forward to this match
25:38along with Rick Steiner vs. Saturn
25:40but as it turns out,
25:42both matches were pretty underwhelming.
25:49It's time for the Fall Brawl 99 main event
25:52and you know the story.
25:53It's time to answer the question,
25:55is Hulk Hogan a trustworthy individual
25:57or was Lex Luger telling the truth?
26:00The competitors make their way to the ring
26:02with both men getting a great ovation from the audience
26:04and then Bret Hart makes a surprise appearance.
26:07Bret's here to wish both men good luck in this match
26:10and you can see Bret telling Hulk to keep the strap
26:12so the hitman can finally face the Hulkster
26:14for the world build.
26:15Bret says promise
26:16and Hogan replies,
26:18I do brother, creative control.
26:20Bret leaves the ring
26:21and it gives you a bit of hope
26:22that maybe WCW are gonna move the hitman
26:25into the world title picture
26:26after all this time
26:27but we'll wait and see what happens.
26:29This is all about Hogan vs. Sting one more time
26:32and we start with a cagey tie-up
26:34that Nick Patrick struggles to break up.
26:36Hogan shoves Sting after the break
26:38and this is just like their match on Nitro a few weeks ago.
26:41Jushin Lager's going fucking mental in the audience
26:43as Sting and Hulk share words.
26:45The Hulkster then tries to steal a pinfall win
26:47but Sting's too close to the ropes.
26:49A hammerlock then gets countered
26:50with a Hulk Hogan drop toehold
26:52and crossface
26:53and again,
26:54this is the exact same thing we saw on Nitro a few weeks back.
26:57Sort it out boys.
26:58The two get up,
26:59we see more wrist locks and hammer locks.
27:01Sting gives a clean break at the ropes
27:02but Hulk isn't so friendly
27:04as he lays in a few knee strikes
27:05and a few punches.
27:06A corner clothesline gets followed up
27:08with a body slam and two elbow drops
27:10but Sting gets to his feet
27:11and we have reached another stalemate.
27:14Sting performs a body slam
27:15and elbow drop of his own
27:16before we go into the classic Hulk Hogan
27:18test of strength routine.
27:19Hulk does Sting dirty with a weak knee strike.
27:22He applies another wrist lock.
27:24Sting gets suplexed
27:25and the icon no-sells it.
27:27Who does he think he is?
27:28Jim Duggan?
27:29Sting lights the champ up
27:30and Hogan goes down after a clothesline.
27:32We then go to the outside for a brawl
27:34and Hogan's able to take control once again.
27:36The world champ does get dropped on the guardrail
27:38but he quickly shakes it off
27:40and he goes to work choking Sting out
27:41with some TV cables.
27:43Friendship or no friendship,
27:44Hulk did say he'll do whatever it takes
27:46to beat the icon.
27:47We go to the ring for some chin abuse,
27:49so Hogan meant what he said,
27:51whatever it takes.
27:52The stinger gets stretched out,
27:53he gets his back clobbered,
27:55we then see an abdominal stretch
27:57and yeah, this one's been pretty shitty so far.
28:00Still better than the road wide main event though.
28:07Hulk goes up for a few mounted punches,
28:09he bites down on Sting's forehead,
28:11Sting starts his comeback with a crossbody
28:13and Hogan ends up in the corner.
28:15This allows Sting to hit two stinger splashes
28:17but he misses a third
28:18and that means it's time to Hulk up brother.
28:21Hulk throws a few punches
28:22before Sting goes down following the big boot.
28:25Hulk then looks to the crowd
28:26before delivering the leg drop.
28:28Diamond Dallas Page comes out
28:29to take out the referee,
28:30so when Hogan delivers that leg drop,
28:32there's no one to count the pinfall.
28:34Hogan takes a diamond cutter
28:36and Dallas drags Sting over Hulk's lifeless body,
28:39but Hogan kicks out at two
28:41and Page takes it out on the referee.
28:43Why Nick Patrick can take the diamond cutter
28:45better than Hogan's anyone's guess,
28:47but here comes Bret Hart to take out Page.
28:49Bret wanted a clean match,
28:51so Dallas gets sent to the outside
28:53while Hogan's about to Hulk up again.
28:55Sting takes a few shots
28:56before falling out of the ring.
28:58Sid Vicious then interferes,
28:59but he's no trouble for Hulk at all.
29:01Lex Luger then runs in
29:02because, yeah,
29:03this match needed run-ins
29:04from four different people,
29:06and Lex drops his baseball bat
29:07just before Hogan takes him out too.
29:10Sting picks up the bat,
29:11Hogan says this proves everything
29:13and Lex has been lying this whole time,
29:15but joke's on you, Hogan,
29:16because Sting hits Hulk with the bat
29:18and Sting has just turned heel.
29:20Again, Sting has just turned heel.
29:24Lex and Sting set the whole thing up,
29:26which, to be fair,
29:27I don't think anyone saw coming.
29:29It doesn't make it a good move or anything,
29:31but that's how Fall Brawl ends.
29:33Hulk gets put in the death lock,
29:34he's knocked out cold,
29:36Sting gets awarded the victory
29:37and the WCW championship,
29:39and we now have to deal with bad guy Sting
29:41every week on Monday Nitro.
29:44Sting is a nine-time world champion,
29:46he embraces Lex while holding the championship,
29:48so it wasn't Hulk Hogan who couldn't be trusted,
29:51it was the man called Sting.
29:58Yeah, this pay-per-view was okay,
30:00it wasn't brilliant,
30:01it wasn't must-see,
30:02but it's the best event WCW's put on
30:05since Spring Stampede,
30:06and right now,
30:06I'm just content with WCW pay-per-views
30:09that are at least average.
30:11Things have gotten so bad
30:12that you're just happy with things being alright,
30:14and yeah, that is still a massive problem,
30:17but I don't feel like I've just wasted my time
30:19after watching this one.
30:20We can all look back now
30:21and say Sting turning heel was a stupid move,
30:24but you gotta admit,
30:25he's been kind of floating around WCW doing very little
30:28since coming back earlier this year.
30:30While it's clear fans want to cheer for Sting,
30:32it's going to be something different for us to dig into
30:34every week on Reliving the War,
30:36so I say bring it on.
30:38God knows this company needs a good shake-up
30:40and not just in the office department.
30:42Check out the two opening matches for sure,
30:44check out Berlin vs Duggan for the sheer stupidity of it all,
30:47join me next week for Reliving the War,
30:49and we'll see what's next for WCW without Eric Bischoff.
30:53Thank you for watching as always,
30:55and please take care.
