00:21Bienvenidos a No Mercy, October 22, 2000, live from Albany, New York.
00:25Nearly 14,500 are in the arena, an estimated 5,500,000 are watching on PPV, and tonight's
00:32show promises to be huge. We've got the in-ring return of Stone Cold Steve Austin as he takes
00:36on the man who ran him down at Survivor Series, Big Rikishi.
00:40We've got Triple H taking on Chris Benoit as the game's slow burning face turn continues
00:45on WWF television, or at least that's what it felt like recently on WWF television, and
00:50Kurt Angle gets a shot at the WWF Championship when he faces The Rock in our main event.
00:54If we include No Mercy, we've only got 6 more WWF PPVs to look at before re-living the war
01:00wraps up for good, so let's hope we've got a string of good shows to close us out.
01:09We're kicking off with the Dudley Boys Tag Team Table Invitational Match. Two teams start,
01:14those being too cool in Lowdown. When a member of a team gets put through a table, they get
01:18eliminated and a new team enters the match. As the match begins, Jim Ross informs us that
01:23Stone Cold Steve Austin is yet to arrive at the arena, but don't worry folks, I'm sure
01:28Steve wouldn't miss this show for love nor money. The crowd are very much behind 2 Cool
01:32here, and it's not surprising really. I mean, D'Lo's awesome, but putting him in an old
01:37creative's got nothing for you tag team isn't going to do him any favours. Chaz gets the
01:42edge of a table shoved into his gooch, which couldn't have felt too good, though his tag
01:46team partner performed a sky high on Grandmaster Sexy. Lowdown thought they had it in the bag,
01:51but they both go through tables when failing a few high risk moves, so lowdowns out.
01:56Next to enter is the team of Raven and Taz, two legit casualties of the Monday Night War
02:01in my opinion and a real example of why the grass isn't always greener. Raven was in danger
02:06of getting eliminated very early on, but Taz saved him with a Taz mission to Scotty.
02:11Raven then delivered a bulldog to Grandmaster Sexy, and Christopher messed up when trying
02:16a sunset powerbomb to the outside. Silly sausage. Scotty tried to make up for it by doing the
02:21worm under a table, but surprisingly, Taz and Raven eliminated their opponents by suplexing
02:26Scotty through a table. Next out, it's the Dudley boys. Bubba Ray and D'Vaughn get a great
02:31ovation as they go to work on their fellow ECW alumni. Taz takes a Bubba bomb, Raven takes
02:36the diving headbutt, and it's only a matter of time before the Dudleys eliminate their opponents.
02:41It comes when D'Vaughn delivers a leg drop to Taz, the table almost didn't give way,
02:47and you can see D'Vaughn afterwards saying to himself, thank fuck that table broke.
02:51Next out, it's the father of all things good and the bull of all things Buchanan. This
02:56is the final team of this invitational table match. After some brief action, the referee
03:00gets taken out and while the official's still down, Bubba puts bull through a table.
03:05The goodfather then hits Bubba with a chair, Goodfather pulls his opponent away from the
03:09broken furniture, and the referee thinks it was Bubba who just went through the wood.
03:13The ref decides to write a censor of one hour opener, but a second official comes down to
03:17say nah mate. The match gets restarted, the goodfather misses a whole train and I'm guessing
03:22they haven't come up with a new name for this old move. The Dudleys win with a 3D, and
03:27yeah, a crowd pleasing opener here to get the fans all excited for No Mercy 2000. A predictable
03:32outcome for sure, but mission accomplished. TNA wanna see Trish Stratus' massive mamma jammas,
03:42and Trish says she might just let them fall out if it helps distract the acolytes in our
03:47next match. Trish and her boys were scheduled to face Farooq, Bradshaw and Lita, but TNA
03:53launched an attack backstage after Lita had just made her entrance. TNA drop a flight case
03:58on Farooq's knee, Bradshaw's already got a filing cabinet on top of him, Lita rushes
04:03up the ramp to check on her partners, but this just allows Trish to launch a sneak attack.
04:07Lita gets brought to the ring, it looks like we're gonna see a 3 on 1 beatdown, though
04:11fans who wanted to see Lita get annihilated get left disappointed when the hardy boys show
04:16up for the save. Not exactly sure why this match got called off, maybe an injury, maybe
04:21time constraints, maybe this was always the plan, but No Mercy moves on without presenting
04:25this advertised 6 person tag. Edge and Christian say they wanted to compete in the Dudley
04:31boys invitational match, but they thought they had food poisoning. They had some nuts at
04:36the cinema, Edge was throwing up while Christian held his nuts, but turns out the lads nuts were
04:41absolutely fine, and they even invite Lillian Garcia to sample their nuts after the show.
04:46Edge and Christian are going to cheer on the conquistadors later tonight, and honestly, so am I.
04:52Next up, it's X-Pac vs Chris Jericho inside a steel cage. It feels like the WWF tried to
04:57make this a blood feud what with the backstage attacks on Raw, the first blood match and now
05:02a steel cage match, but it didn't really work. With the other strong storylines going
05:07on in the WWF over the past two months, it was difficult for others to get a look in.
05:12Y2J says he wants to end this feud tonight and he doesn't want to hear the name of X-Pac
05:16or D-Generation X ever again. And honestly, the match itself was just as flat as the Jericho-X-Pac
05:23rivalry, but it did have a few good spots. Nothing out of the ordinary here at all, the
05:28two brawled on the outside before the match began. X-Pac tried first to make an escape,
05:33but he got stopped with a springboard dropkick. Jericho's first attempt also proved unfruitful,
05:37though he did make X-Pac pay with another dropkick. Waltman took the lead for a while and he tried
05:42to pin his opponent after a spinning wheel kick. Pinfalls and submissions don't count
05:46that. Jericho did perform a sweet-looking top row powerbomb though which was probably
05:51the best spot of the match. Jericho's lion tamer on top of the cage was also pretty good.
05:56After this move, Waltman pushed his opponent from the top of the cage and Pac tried to escape.
06:01Unfortunately, he celebrated a bit too much while standing on the door and Jericho dropkicked
06:06the cage, leading to X-Pac smashing his little degenerate and spectacular fashion. Jericho
06:11then left the cage, Y2J's our match winner. The crowd didn't really get into this one
06:16and I thought it fell below expectations, but again, it did have a few good moments. I really
06:21wouldn't go seeking the match out though.
06:28Imagine going to a restaurant in New York City and seeing Steve Blackman messing around with
06:32his deadliest screaming sticks. This would be better than attending the pay-per-view
06:35itself. Sign me up.
06:38Rikishi's been waiting for Stone Cold to show up while holding a sledgehammer, and because
06:43Austin hasn't shown up yet, Foley says he will raise Rikishi's hand if Stone Cold doesn't
06:48appear. Foley says he knows Stone Cold's gonna be here and he advises Rikishi to go get dressed.
06:54Billy Gunn, with his fantastic hair, was supposed to get an IC title shot next at No Mercy but Eddie
07:00Guerrero pulled his hamstring on raw after landing awkwardly from a monkey flip. So instead, we're
07:05going to have Billy Gunn and Chyna teaming up against Val Venis and Steven Richards and I
07:09really would have preferred the one on one match. Not a lot you can do I suppose. For
07:13those not following reliving the war, the right to censor have had issues with Chyna ever since
07:18she posed for Playboy, and seeing as Billy Gunn is, quote, rectally obsessed, he too falls
07:24into the category of a moral shitbag, according to Steven Richards anyway.
07:29BA Billy Gunn's been backing up Chyna ever since Eddie Guerrero was caught doing the dirty
07:33behind Chyna's back, and he starts this match off with a body slam and a knee drop to Val
07:38Venis. Venus gets sent to the outside where Chyna does a number on him, Val swings it around
07:43back in the ring with a stun gun to miss their gun, in comes White Sox for a big press
07:47slam,
07:48and in comes the 9th wonder of the world to teach Stevie a lesson. Chyna uses Stevie's
07:53necktie to throw him around the ring while J.R. talks about Chyna's Playboy shoot. He
07:57says, and again I quote, it's amazing how a woman can be so beautiful and be so naked
08:03in Playboy while also stepping into this arena and be so dominant. Even Lawler laughed at J.R.
08:09after this little quip. Chyna shoves Venus' head into her big inflatable honkers and J.R.
08:14doesn't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing. I think J.R. has the horn tonight
08:19boys. But nevermind that because Billy guns back in and the RTC target his recently repaired
08:24shoulder. This turns out to be an effective strategy and Billy gets worn down for an extended
08:28period of time, though he gets his break for a hot tag after delivering a DDT. Chyna and
08:34Billy then work together with a low blow and famous artist Steven followed with a kick to
08:37Val Venis and a neckbreaker. And this is when the other members of the right to censor run
08:42down and Billy tries to take them out all on his own. While this is happening, Chyna sets
08:46Venus up for a pedigree. Eddie Guerrero runs in and he hits Chyna with a bunch of roses.
08:50This allows Val to get a pinfall win and the right to censor defeat their opponents. And
08:55it turns out there was a lead pipe hidden within those roses. Is this how Eddie really felt
09:00about Chyna? Is this symbolic of Eddie and Chyna's relationship? Nah, he probably just
09:05wanted to crack her spine and take away her ability to walk.
09:13Stephanie McMahon wants to be in Triple H's corner tonight and once again Hunter says he
09:17doesn't want his wife getting involved in this match. You know what this means, don't
09:20you? Yeah, every single time Hunter's told Steph to stay in the back she always comes
09:25out the ringside anyway. Every. Single. Time.
09:29Steph even prepared a videotape for Hunter, and no, it's not a smutty video filmed at WWF headquarters,
09:35in Stanford where apparently all the action happens. It's a videotape featuring Chris Benoit
09:40applying the crippler crossface. On demand video services weren't a thing yet guys.
09:45Steph says she's gonna go and attend a business, that business being Kurt Angle, seeing as she
09:50and Kurt are now officially working together. And while Hunter is fine letting his wife serve
09:54as Kurt's manager tonight, he says if Steph gets hurt in any way, he's gonna put Kurt Angle
09:59out of business for good.
10:02It's now time for Rikishi vs Stone Cold Steve Austin. Rikishi admitted that he ran down
10:07Stone Cold at Survivor Series, he famously said he did it for The Rock, seeing as the
10:11bloodline have in the past always been pushed aside in favour of the quote, Great White Hope.
10:17That Great White Hope being the likes of Bruno Sammartino, but backland Hulk Hogan and even
10:22Stone Cold Steve Austin. And so Rikishi took Austin out so The Rock could flourish in the
10:26WWF. Rock didn't want this kind of help, it all led to Rikishi turning heel, and Kish leaned
10:32further into this new role by destroying Austin's pickup truck on Smackdown before attacking good
10:37ol' JR. Tonight it's no holds barred, anything goes, and Austin still hasn't made it to no
10:43mercy. Rikishi says Austin's afraid to face him, he wants Mick Foley to come out and raise
10:48his hand in victory. So Mick walks down the ramp, he gets in the ring, he grabs a microphone,
10:53he's just about to announce that Rikishi's our match winner, but then Disturbs Glass Shudders
10:57plays in the arena and the crowd lose their shit. We see Stone Cold driving his badly damaged
11:02pickup truck outside the arena, the rattlesnake brings his vehicle all the way down the ringside,
11:07and the fight's on. Stone Cold's like a man possessed and Rikishi's gonna spend the first
11:12portion of this match getting his ass kicked besides Stone Cold's pickup truck. As a matter of fact,
11:17this match doesn't even make it to the ring. No wrestling moves, no stunners, and unfortunately,
11:22no stink faces. This one's just a pure fight and it's very entertaining too. The two travel around
11:28the ring where Rikishi gets launched over the Spanish announce table, Kish gets choked out before the two
11:32make their way through the audience, the big man forces Austin to back off by throwing a drink in his
11:37face and it looks like Rikishi pours a coke all over his own head. I bet ya he had instant
11:42regret after
11:43this one, big sticky Rikishi. Austin takes a few kicks to the midsection and he gets body dropped
11:49onto the floor, he then gets up and he starts whipping Rikishi with his leather belt and the
11:53whipping continues all the way back to ringside. Stone Cold then utilizes a rope as he tries once
11:58again to choke his opponent out, he then tries to use a TV monitor but Rikishi takes it away and
12:03Austin
12:04almost gets his head taken off. Big Rikishi then tries to use a steel chair and this, ladies and
12:09gents, proves to be Rikishi's undoing, as Austin takes the chair away and the big man takes three
12:14shots right to the head. Rikishi's been busted open and Stone Cold's not done yet. A further three
12:20chair shots ensures that this fight is pretty much over and Stone Cold wants to end it by using Rikishi's
12:26sledgehammer to cave the big goose's head in. Fortunately, Rikishi's able to move out of the way but
12:31he's not able to avoid another chair shot. The final shot puts Rikishi into the back of Stone Cold's
12:35pickup truck and Austin now wants real payback. He wants to do the same thing Rikishi did to him
12:40back at survivor series. So Rikishi gets brought out of the parking lot, he gets dumped out of the
12:45pickup truck, Stone Cold beats Rikishi up a little and he sets him in place and Austin gets back into
12:50his pickup truck. The rattlesnake floors it as Rikishi prays for his life and then the cops show up. The
12:57cops
12:57provide a shield for Rikishi and Stone Cold drives straight into a cop car. Austin tries again,
13:03he wants to push the cops out of the way but he can't get through as more boys in blue
13:07show up.
13:08In the end Stone Cold gets pulled out of his truck and he gets arrested, so Rikishi lives to fight
13:13another day while Stone Cold gets prepared to spend the night in jail. The police put the cuffs on,
13:18they escort Stone Cold to a cop car, the last thing we see is Austin getting taken to jail and
13:23that's how
13:23this encounter ended. Good stuff here, it was the right call for Austin to take it way too far seeing
13:29as he almost got killed back at survivor series. A simple wrestling match inside the ring wouldn't
13:35have been enough here so it all made sense within the context of the storyline.
13:43European Champion William Regal has the unfortunate task of following up the previous match by taking
13:48on naked Midian, but the previous match gets topped right away when someone holds up a sign that says
13:54William Regal is a wanker, fantastic. His lordship says his upcoming opponent tonight's fouler than a
14:01box of frogs and Regal went out of his way to ask Mick Foley to ensure Midian wears proper attire
14:06tonight,
14:07wrestling a naked sweaty dude would besmirch the legendary title reign of Lord William Regal.
14:12Midian doesn't own wrestling attire anymore so he comes out wearing an undertaker shirt,
14:17our main man Regal gives Midian a wrestling lesson as JR talks about how the European
14:22Champion started off wrestling in carnivals. Regal did indeed get his start wrestling at Blackpool
14:27Pleasure Beach at the age of 15 and let me tell you something brother, there was no fancy entrance
14:32music or paro techniques during those shows. Midian ends up on the outside and he decides to get a
14:38little more naked. Regal doesn't like this and it seems to throw him off his game even though he's
14:43wrestled hundreds, if not thousands, of shirtless guys in the past and many, particularly those at
14:49Blackpool Pleasure Beach would have had a worse physique than Midian, shocking I know.
14:54We go outside where Midian gets totally punished, Regal gets reprimanded by Teddy Long back inside the
15:00ring, Midian slimes back in and he decides to take his pants off and for some reason he decides to
15:06kiss
15:06Regal in the middle of the ring. This is something that did not happen at Blackpool Pleasure Beach,
15:11at least not in the wrestling tent. Regal stops a top rope move and Midian's now in position for
15:17the Regal stretch. Only problem is, Regal doesn't want to get too close to Midian's smelly asshole and
15:22so he decides not to lock in his finisher. Instead, European champ delivers a Regal cutter and that's how it
15:28ends. William Regal wins via pinfall. William goes from having a disgusted look on his face to smiling
15:34smugly at the audience. In Man, has William Regal already come into his own since returning to the
15:40WWF? He's one of those characters you just want to see more of.
15:45A replay aired from Sunday Night Heat featuring Kurt Angle interviewing The Rock. Angle edited the
15:51interview himself to make The Rock looking sound bad and this one is worth checking out. It's silly,
15:56but still entertaining. Rock watched the edit in his locker room and he wasn't amused.
16:01Hell yeah, the conquistadors are up next as they get a shot at the Hardy Boys Tag Team Championships.
16:07Many believe these two are actually aging Christian but come on guys, don't be so stupid,
16:12you smart fans have no idea what you're talking about. Look, they even speak perfect Spanish.
16:21Kevin Kelly brings up the fact that there's some rumors going around that these two could be
16:25aging Christian. Kelly obviously subscribes to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter and the boys reply by
16:31saying, Ariba. Perfectly adequate answer. The Hardy Boys make their entrances. Los Conquistadors,
16:38Uno and Dos come down and they have a conversation with the Spanish announce team, which they can
16:42totally do because they speak the language fluently. And that idiot Matt Hardy says he's gonna rip off the
16:48of his head. Conquistadors masks improve that they're aging Christian by the end of the match. I bet you
16:53any money you don't, Matt. Conquistador does showing off some unreal agility by rolling around the ring.
17:00He ends up rolling into a clothesline and Matt tries to take the mask off. Absolute disrespect here,
17:05and a real lack of respect for tradition right here too. Fuckin' sorted out, man. Uno comes in,
17:11he and Matt trade wrist locks, Jeff gets a blind tag and he performs a jumping clothesline,
17:15and the rainbow haired warrior follows up with a headscissor takedown and a dropkick. Once again,
17:21the commentators are too busy talking about the colour of Jeff Hardy's hair, which is ridiculous
17:25seeing as the Conquistadors are in the ring. So, so disrespectful. A little mishap causes the
17:30Conquistadors to run into each other when Dos tags in. He makes up for it though by doing the robot,
17:36not once, but twice, which only confirms more that this is 100% definitely not Christian.
17:41We see poetry in motion from the Hardy Boys as Uno comes in to help his friend, this backfires when
17:47Uno accidentally headbutts his partner right in the Conquistaballs, but a little teamwork afterwards
17:51sees the Hardy Boys take a double dropkick. Admittedly, the Conquistadors' follow-up team
17:56efforts don't pay off, but from here the challengers do gain an advantage after Jeff gets launched into
18:02the ring post. Time to build up for the hot tag, the Conquistadors keep Jeff away from his corner while
18:07mocking brother Matt. Uno pulls off a nice power slam while Dos steals the show with a devastating
18:13super chinlock, though the break comes when Dos misses a high risk move. Matt and Uno tag in,
18:19Matt lights both of his opponents up and the Hardy's pull off even more double team moves. We go outside
18:24where Jeff pulls off his barricade clothesline, but Mr Charismatic Enigma forgot he was wrestling the
18:29conquistadors. Dos goes upstairs for a big dive to the outside and… yeah, that could've been better.
18:36Matt tries to outdo his opponent and for some reason he attacks his own brother. We go into the
18:41ring where Dos pulls off an inverted DDT which definitely wasn't inspired by another wrestler,
18:46though Jeff breaks the cover with a swanton bomb. Our match ends with Matt performing a twist of fate on
18:51Uno and… oh no, Matt wants to take that mask off. Matt wants to break a sacred tradition right here
18:58at
18:58No Mercy and… ha ha ha, fuck you Matt. Uno was wearing a mask under his mask and Matt so
19:05distraught
19:05that he walked straight into an unprettier, another move that Dos studied while watching tapes of another
19:10great tag team wrestler. Los Conquistadors win the titles and they absolutely deserve those
19:16championships too. An absolutely legendary tag team who's still got it after all these years.
19:26Austin's pickup truck's getting towed away, as is the cop car he wrecked while trying to get at
19:31Rikishi. Triple H meanwhile is in his locker room watching that tape Stephanie gave him,
19:35he watches himself getting put in the crossface and it actually looks like he's getting some good
19:40intel here. Triple H vs Crispin was up next and this storyline doesn't run too
19:45deep. Benoit has been a bit of a menace recently, Chris not only headbutted Stephanie but he also
19:50cost Triple H a shot at the WWF title. Which heinous act is more deplorable to Triple H,
19:56we can only guess, but the game's walking into this one with nothing but revenge on his mind.
20:01Hunter's kinda the babyface here and indeed, the crowd cheer for him as he takes the early lead.
20:06He's one step ahead of Benoit right from the get go and the crowd chant Hunter's name as he avoids
20:10an enziguri. Hunter's gonna put all his focus on Chris's left knee and the audience enjoys seeing
20:15Triple H rot Benoit's leg around the ring post. The punishment continues as the game drops an elbow
20:20on the seemingly injured body part. Triple H sets Benoit's foot on the middle rope and he drives his
20:25own knee into Benoit's calf. The commentators are surprised that Triple H is seemingly outwrestling
20:31Benoit and they're surprised at Benoit's lack of focus, but the beatdown continues with a big knee
20:36breaker and the crowd pop for Triple H. Hunter continues to outsmart his opponent when he
20:40rolls through from a sunset flip and he brings Benoit down with a dropped toehold. What follows
20:45is Hunter pulling off a few snap leg grape vines and then he only goes and performs a mudalock.
20:51It is a bit dodgy to start off but he gets there in the end. This must have been Chris's
20:56cue to fight
20:56back as Benoit tries to mount a comeback, but this doesn't start off well as Chris throws Hunter and
21:01himself out of the ring. The one day outside, Chris performs a catapult and the game gets thrown,
21:05into the ring steps. Inside the ring, Chris delivers a few of his signature knife edge chops. Triple H goes
21:11down after a jumping arm breaker as the commentators talk about Hunter's recent shoulder problems,
21:16so we've now got Benoit focusing on the arm and shoulder while Hunter struggles to go after that
21:20left knee. Benoit performs a northern light suplex and a hook clothesline, on the outside Hunter fights
21:25back by throwing Chris into the ring steps, Chris drops Hunter on the announce table and the game
21:29lands on his shoulder, so Chris takes control when we get back in the ring. A snap suplex gets followed
21:35up with Benoit trying to hyperextend the elbow, a modified arm drag then gets followed up with a
21:39cross arm breaker, and a hammerlock suplex from Benoit should be enough to keep Triple H on the mat,
21:45or so Benoit thinks. The crippler goes up, we see the diving headbutt with Chris aiming right for
21:50Hunter's arm, the move connects, but as usual Benoit wastes way too much time going for the pin.
21:55So we continue on with Chris looking for a suplex, but Triple H counters with a reverse suplex,
22:00the crowd pop for a few right hands from the game and Benoit goes down after a high knee
22:05and a neck breaker. The game then sets his opponent up for a superplex and he delivers the move as
22:10planned, though Chris replies with his multiple german suplexes and gotta say, I've really enjoyed this
22:16match so far. I totally forgot about it honestly and I wasn't expecting a whole lot going into it,
22:21but it's very old school and every move means something. This is a sleeper hit right here folks.
22:27Hunter avoids getting pinned by putting his foot on the ropes, so Chris pulls off two dragon suplexes.
22:33Again, it's not enough to win the match and Hunter's able to fire back with a facebreaker knee smash.
22:38This doesn't seem to phase Benoit too much because Triple H runs straight into a crippler crossface,
22:43and it's now time to see what Hunter learned after watching that tape. He tries to break free,
22:48Benoit beats him down again like a dog, the crossface gets applied one more time and Triple H struggles to
22:53his feet. Eventually he gets up, he manages to put Chris' arm over his shoulder, in the game pulls off,
22:59a death valley driver is a crossface counter. As predicted, Stephanie McMahon shows up, I told you
23:05she couldn't keep away. She slaps Benoit across the face and this causes Chris to walk straight into a
23:10pedigree attempt. Benoit counters, he tries a crossface but Hunter avoids it, Benoit tries to club his
23:15opponent's shoulder in an effort to get the move locked in but Triple H delivers a low blow and that's
23:20all she
23:20wrote. The game wins with a pedigree and yeah, fantastic stuff here and a match that you can
23:25show to anyone who tries to say Triple H was a bad wrestler. I do have a few nitpicks though,
23:31it's a shame the match ended with a low blow and it kinda undermines what Triple H was effectively
23:36going for here I think. And what Triple H was going for, in my uneducated opinion, is being able to
23:43go
23:43toe to toe with the self-proclaimed best technical wrestler in WWF. This in itself is enough to get
23:49the Triple H naysayers all riled up because it could be viewed as Hunter being self-serving
23:54and Hunter trying to present himself as a better technician than Chris Benoit which
23:58really is preposterous. But yeah, take all that stuff out of it, watch the match for what it is
24:02and it's surprisingly good. Top work from both men.
24:11Alright, all you knobheads who said Los Conquistadors were actually Edge and Christian,
24:15explain this. Christian says, Mucho congratulationos to the new tag team champions,
24:20he and Edge are a bit tired after running to the store to buy Los Conquistadors a few Coronas and
24:25a
24:25bottle of champagne for themselves. And Edge says, Muchachos, Chewbaccas, as all four men celebrate.
24:32E and C face Los Conquistadors tomorrow night on Raw.
24:36Main event time, Kurt Angle challenges The Rock for the WWF title. We've got two stories heading into
24:42this one. First, Stephanie McMahon's relationship with Kurt Angle. These two started off as friends,
24:47we thought they could be lovers, but now it's strictly business as Stephanie's now officially
24:52serving is Angle's valet and manager. Triple H is fine with this, but as we learned earlier on,
24:58Kurt's in deep trouble if any harm comes to Little Miss McMahon. The second story centers around The
25:03Rock's relationship with his cousin Rikishi. You know the drill, Rikishi ran down stone cold for The
25:08Rock. But The Rock doesn't want Rikishi's help and Rikishi's actions have kinda thrown The Great One
25:13in a bad place. Still, it could be a big night for Kurt Angle, he's been an absolute highlight of
25:19WWF programming since his debut and if he wins the WWF title tonight, he'd have reached the WWF
25:24peak in under a year as an active full-time member of the company's roster. It won't be easy though
25:30as he takes on the people's champion live at no mercy. Howard Finkel announces during the entrances
25:35that this is going to be a no disqualification match, something that surprises JR and King on commentary.
25:46Stephanie McMahon's services pay off right from the get go, she distracts The Rock and Angle lays the
25:51punches in. Rock gets destroyed right here and he falls out of the ring after getting whacked,
25:55and Angle keeps the pressure on outside the ring. A good start here for the challenger. Kurt then grabs
26:01a chair, Rock takes a shot across the back, he gets sent into the ring where Stephanie taunts the WWF
26:06champion, but this isn't going to play out like Triple H vs Chris Benoit. The Rock immediately
26:11fires back with a clothesline and a Samoan drop. We see Triple H watching the match backstage,
26:16the game's keeping an eye on his wife it seems as the action goes to the entranceway. Rock still in
26:21control here as the two fight at the tech area and Rock then throws the challenger through the
26:25entrance setup. He does it again only this time he does it from curtain side, though Rock pays for
26:30this by getting sent into a lighting rig as the brawl continues. Ensuring to add a little comedy to the
26:36bout, Rock grabs a cardboard cutout of himself and he places it in front of Angle for a punch,
26:40punching yourself's a great way to show you mean serious business. Though when we eventually get
26:45back to the ring, it's Angle back in control and Stephanie McMahon takes great delight in choking
26:49Rock out. It's all fun and games for Mrs. McMahon but Triple H is still watching backstage.
26:55After using a chair on Kurt Angle's knee, Rock looks for a submission victory. He locks in his
27:00shitshooter and Angle does top out, though Stephanie McMahon distracts Art Hebner and our match continues on.
27:06Stephanie taunts the Rock, the great one looks pissed off, so Rock chases Steph around the ring
27:11and he falls for the trap. The Rock runs right into a belly to belly which puts Angle back in
27:16control.
27:16We even see a jumping forearm from Angle which did look a bit off but what didn't look off was
27:22Kurt's Olympic chinlock, my goodness. Stephanie really, and I mean really enjoyed this chinlock but
27:28nowhere near as much as I did. The Rock took this personally and when he breaks free he launches Kurt
27:33out
27:33of the ring and so our match continues on with both men fighting on the outside once again.
27:43Highlights on the outside included Angle getting thrown into the ring steps, Rock spitting water in
27:48his opponent's face and the champ getting launched into the ring post. Steph puts the WWF title in the
27:53ring while the referee wasn't looking, no idea why she's being so devious, seeing as it's an ODQ match.
27:59The champ gets whacked with his own title built but Rock kicks out of Angle's cover.
28:02We see that Angle's got a cud as he gets dropped with his superplex, the Rock's also bleeding after
28:08getting hit with the WWF title built. The Great One takes a textbook suplex from the challenger and
28:12Angle goes up for his moonsault, and while his motion is super graceful as always, Angle misses his
28:18target, as always. Float over DDT from the Rock, big throw from the Rock, The Great One performs his
28:24spinebuster and that's when Stephanie gets in the ring. Stephanie's stopping Rock from performing a
28:29people's elbow and a crowd erupts when Rock sets Steph up for a rock bottom. Rock delivers the move,
28:34Little Miss McMahon's now in position for the people's elbow, Kurt saves Stephanie from taking the most
28:39electrifying move in sports entertainment but now Triple H is pissed off. Hunter rushes down to the
28:44ring and he goes right after Kurt Angle, Angle didn't protect Stephanie and so Triple H is taking it out
28:49on the challenger. To show he's not playing favourites, he also hits Rock with a pedigree which goes against
28:54his current babyface efforts, you know, but Rock's out cold and Triple H is bringing his wife back up the
29:00ramp. Angle goes for the cover, Rock kicks out of two, the match is going to continue on and fans
29:05are on their feet. Angle kicks out of another DDT from the Rock, Kurt then tries to distance himself
29:10from the champion as the two fight on the outside, Big Rikishi then walks down the ramp looking like
29:15a real mess and I guess the showers were broke inside the arena. Rikishi stops Kurt Angle from walking up
29:20the
29:20ramp and remember Rock doesn't want Rikishi's help but Rikishi's going to offer it anyway. Rock performs
29:26a rock bottom on Angle and it doesn't get the job done, so Rikishi decides to get in the ring
29:31to help
29:32his cousin and this backfires in a huge way. Not only does The Rock take a corner hip attack, he
29:37also
29:37takes a standing sidekick. This allows Angle to deliver Olympic slams on both Rikishi and The Rock and
29:43that's how it all ends. Kurt Angle pins The Rock and Angle completes the greatest rookie year of all time
29:48by becoming WWF champion. Kurt re-enacts his 1996 Olympic win by dropping to his knees and crying
29:55while holding the gold, and all the rock can do's look at his big doofus cousin and wonder what the
30:00hell were you thinking. Good show here from the WWF and a show I'd recommend you check out. In my
30:11opinion it peaked with Triple H vs Chris Benoit but the main event was pretty good too. Great to see
30:15Kurt Angle win the WWF title after being such an entertaining performer over the past year.
30:20The tag team title match was a whole lot of goofy fun, Austin vs Rikishi was exactly what it needed
30:25to be, I didn't think much of X-Pac vs Jericho in the right to censor tag team match but
30:30there's
30:30nothing here that you would say is really bad. Again, compare this to WCW's pay per view offerings
30:36and it's actually insane how they differ in quality and value for money. In just on the topic of WCW,
30:42Halloween Havoc 2000 is coming up next Sunday so make sure you come over again. And also,
30:46make sure you stop by on Thursday and we'll check out what's happening on raw and nitro.
30:51Thanks for watching folks, I do appreciate it, and please, take care.
