Terry McLaurin spoke about the confidence he has in the wide receiver room. Does Washington's front office share that sentiment?

00:00I keep pointing out, I think, Brian, you do too.
00:05It's entirely possible they roll with what they've got.
00:10And I almost wonder if they roll with what they've got at least until camp
00:14and then kind of see what happens.
00:16Is it possible they lose the opportunity to sign Steph or Keenan Allen?
00:23Yeah.
00:23I think right now they're not losing the opportunity to sign Brandon Ayuk
00:27because he's still under contract with the Niners.
00:31But Terry McLaurin had a really cool event yesterday.
00:35And, B, I know you well enough.
00:36You might care more about the event than the football conversation.
00:40Terry McLaurin, through his foundation, working with some other partners,
00:42including, I believe, the Chris Nace Law Group, I want to say.
00:46They had an event at Phelps High School in Northeast D.C.,
00:51about 10 blocks from RFK Stadium.
00:56One thing I'll say is as the building of RFK Stadium becomes realer and realer,
01:02it's cool to see the team and the organization doing far more events in the city.
01:08Not that kids don't need help everywhere,
01:10but it's cool to see them helping kids in the city.
01:14Terry's event yesterday, I think, hosted about 200 young people.
01:17And the point of it was to get them job ready,
01:22to understand what a job interview is like,
01:25to learn how to tie a tie, to look people in the eye,
01:29to shake hands, and to speak up.
01:31And I've known Terry a long time.
01:34I've known he entered the league with a level of professionalism
01:38that I think was instilled from his parents.
01:40I know his parents.
01:42I think playing at a place like Ohio State, too,
01:45mandates that you know how to behave and act professionally.
01:49But I think when Terry works with kids,
01:52there's a real generosity of spirit,
01:54which if you're a pro athlete,
01:55I think that's one of the most important aspects you can have,
01:59is if you're going to lock in for a charity thing,
02:02because you and I have seen this,
02:03sometimes players go to these charity events
02:06and they sit in the corner on their phone,
02:07and they kind of just are there because they need to be there,
02:10but they're not necessarily locked in.
02:12When Terry does the events, he is locked in.
02:15And you saw that yesterday.
02:17We had a really great story yesterday.
02:20Credit to Chris Kerwin and Heather McDonough
02:22for putting that together from the event
02:24and talking with some of the young people
02:26that got to talk to Terry.
02:28But as what happens at these charity events is
02:30you go and you cover it,
02:32and then you do ask a couple football questions.
02:34And I think we start with the L.A. thing, Chris.
02:39McLaurin got asked about the workouts
02:41that the players on the team
02:44have been actively participating in.
02:46Most of them have been in L.A.
02:48We don't know everywhere,
02:49but we've seen the videos.
02:52De'Ami Brown, shout out to De'Ami.
02:54He's got a hell of a content team.
02:56He keeps putting these videos out.
02:58Wale posted some videos.
02:59The first batch of L.A. videos,
03:01I would say it was like five or six players out there.
03:04This latest batch.
03:05It was a slew.
03:06It seemed like there was like 10 or 12 guys out there.
03:08The Titans were all out there, yeah.
03:11This is McLaurin talking about the players getting together
03:15during their offseason to work out together.
03:18Yeah, it was great just to get together as a group.
03:21You know, Jaden really led that to get everyone together.
03:23Sam Hartman was out there as well.
03:25A few guys couldn't make it,
03:26and that happens, you know, in life.
03:27We have so many other things going outside of football.
03:29But to get together in the warm state of L.A.,
03:32to get some really good reps together,
03:35to kind of build on the offense of what we did in the OTA time,
03:37and then to sit down and break bread.
03:39We went to dinner.
03:39We hung out.
03:40We fellowshiped.
03:41You know what I mean?
03:42Everything is not always about football.
03:43It's about the connection.
03:44That's what makes the on-field chemistry great.
03:46And so we got to do that, and we had a really good time.
03:49Cool.
03:50What do you make of the off-field stuff,
03:52just hanging out offseason?
03:54Well, I think that's what guys do for the most part.
03:56You know, offseason, for us, we don't see football,
03:59but offseason, for them, they're getting ready for a season.
04:02And to do that, you can start.
04:05You always hear me talking about chemistry.
04:07You know, when I say when you feel closer to the person that you're next to,
04:12you don't want to let that person down.
04:13And I believe that chemistry, Bill,
04:16helps out a team even more than anything else.
04:19You know, if you completely don't know nothing about the person that you're next to,
04:22you don't like them or whatsoever,
04:24never spend no time with them,
04:26think y'all going to get to your absolute best?
04:27I doubt it.
04:31So it's interesting, right,
04:33that these guys are out there working together.
04:36Jaden Daniels is throwing to these players.
04:38Sam Hartman was out there as well,
04:39throwing to these players.
04:41And you had a bunch of different guys there.
04:43I'm sure people can identify them from all the videos we saw on Instagram.
04:47And listen, man,
04:48these guys are not immune to the conversations.
04:50And certainly these guys are aware of the IUK videos because they're omnipresent.
04:57I guarantee that was a topic in some of the talks.
05:00Hell yeah.
05:02Terry got asked,
05:03do you guys have enough for this offense to be potent?
05:12We haven't played any games yet.
05:13You know,
05:14it's easy to look at things on paper.
05:15I think that's the NFL.
05:17Each person goes in and looks at rosters,
05:19looks at success or failures of last year,
05:21and they try to predict what's going to come in next.
05:23But if in 2024,
05:24you looked at the roster and said,
05:27nobody probably thought we were going to go to the NFC championship,
05:29especially after,
05:30you know,
05:31having to move on from our coaching staff and everything is new.
05:34So one thing about the NFL,
05:36each season is new.
05:37Each opportunity is new.
05:38And we got a lot of guys that are hungry for their opportunity.
05:41Not only vets to bounce back,
05:43but young guys who haven't got the opportunity to show what they can do in
05:46this league.
05:47And one thing I've learned being in the league for eight years is someone
05:50always steps up because the opportunity is going to present itself.
05:53And so at the end of the day,
05:54I don't make the decision to bring people in.
05:56If you know,
05:56the GMs decide to bring somebody in,
05:58I'm going to support them and bring them into our brotherhood.
06:01But we're going to roll with the guys that we have.
06:03We're more than confident that they're going to be able to step up and
06:05myself as well,
06:06to be able to take on even more of a role on offense and as a leader.
06:11Sounds like something you've been saying B.
06:12Yeah.
06:13But that's it.
06:14Like,
06:14you know,
06:15everyone is lived based off of what somebody did the year before or what
06:20they haven't seen the comparisons.
06:23And they always got to realize the people that you cheer for and you see as
06:26that guy,
06:27they started off in the same position.
06:29Some of these guys are.
06:30And then all of a sudden next two years,
06:33you go,
06:33Oh man.
06:34But if you think back,
06:36Oh man,
06:36you thought he was crap.
06:38Cause he hadn't done nothing yet.
06:39Well,
06:39like Terry stated,
06:41some of them haven't had the opportunity.
06:42Getting an opportunity.
06:44Now you can show yourself,
06:45you know,
06:46and I'll keep going back.
06:48Like a lot of people have said,
06:50when Jaden's on,
06:51other people could be on,
06:53keep him up,
06:55right?
06:55Keep him healthy.
06:56And I guarantee you to be another guy emerges.
07:01It's just so interesting that organizationally,
07:04there's a cohesion this off season that you can really see and kind of feel and,
07:09and experience.
07:13And it's like,
07:14despite that,
07:15a lot of fans like,
07:16got to add,
07:17got to add.
07:17And I think it's so much the fans mindset.
07:20It's always the fans mindset.
07:22That's why they're not putting together teams.
07:24That's why they're not putting together teams.
07:25That's why they're sitting there cheering for them.
07:28I'm curious for you.
07:29As we sit here,
07:30July 16th training camps,
07:32two weeks out.
07:33We'll be in Ashburn doing sweating in the tent in two weeks.
07:36I'm going to buy some better fan.
07:39I got fans.
07:41I've got you buy a new one every year and I end up storing them in my garage.
07:45I think I have two or three.
07:46You might need extras because they were sweating with those.
07:49Especially if it's a day like today.
07:50Good gracious.
07:54I,
07:54I think there's a real part.
07:56Now the players are always going to think we're good because they don't
08:00necessarily want somebody else to come in that could take their job.
08:03That there is.
08:04It's self-preservation league from top to bottom.
08:07But I do think there's some real confidence in the group that's been
08:10assembled.
08:11I don't know that fans share that.
08:13And you heard Terry say,
08:14if they do bring somebody in that we'll embrace them.
08:18Yeah.
08:19Until they show us that they can't be embraced.
08:22I want to let the people on the phones weigh in.
08:24800-636-1067.
08:26Let's start with Derek from the chat.
08:28What's up D?
08:30JP BMX.
08:31How we doing this morning gentlemen?
08:32We're good brother.
08:33How are you?
08:35I'm great.
08:35I'm doing even better after hearing what Terry had to say about this unit
08:39because it's given me confidence on where I'm at as a fan of this team.
08:43You know,
08:43in the past three years,
08:45let's look at what we did in the draft for wide receivers.
08:472020,
08:492024,
08:49we took Luke McCaffrey in the third round.
08:512025,
08:52we take Jayden Lane in the fourth.
08:54And then 2026,
08:55we just took Antonio in the third again.
08:57So it's like,
08:58okay,
08:58what are we doing?
08:59Are we going to go through the draft with these,
09:00with these wide receivers and give them a shot?
09:02Because I look at it like this,
09:05you know,
09:05a guy like De'Ami Brown,
09:07right?
09:07He was,
09:07we've seen his tenure on this team.
09:10Before JD 5 got here,
09:11no offense to De'Ami Brown whatsoever,
09:13but it was kind of a nothing burger production from him.
09:16And then once JD 5 got here,
09:18and how he's able to move in the pocket,
09:20you know,
09:20have defenses on the heels.
09:22De'Ami Brown was actually a big time contributor for us when we made that run
09:25two years ago.
09:26So,
09:27you know,
09:28I'm confident in what we got.
09:30I like what Blau's talking about as the offensive coordinator and the schemes
09:34that he's drawing up.
09:35And you know what?
09:35At the end of the day,
09:36fellas,
09:37if we can't do anything,
09:39just bring Robbie Chosen back.
09:40Just bring Robbie Anderson back.
09:42Why not?
09:44I think Derek's being funny there at the end.
09:46Appreciate the call,
09:46bud.
09:47In the playoff run three years ago,
09:49in the run to the NFC title game,
09:51they played three games.
09:53Terry McLaurin had 14 catches for 227 yards,
09:56and three touchdowns,
09:57counted for 10 first downs.
09:59De'Ami Brown had 14 catches for 229 yards,
10:03one touchdown,
10:04nine first downs.
10:04Like,
10:05De'Ami,
10:05I don't know that you can extrapolate directly from that,
10:08but he was damn good.
10:10He showed you what his possibilities could be.
10:13You got to build on it.
10:15You know,
10:15I think...
10:16You got him paid.
10:17He got 10,
10:1811 a year from Jacksonville.
10:19When you go out there and you,
10:21like,
10:21I've always said it,
10:22when you make plays,
10:27you basically get more time
10:29to show how good you are.
10:31That's how the coaches look at it.
10:32Guy makes plays in practice,
10:34guys get in the game and make plays,
10:35coach said we got to get him in there a little bit more.
10:37And that's when you begin to see guys flourish.
10:40But if you're not making plays in practice,
10:42you don't get in the game.
10:42You don't get in the game,
10:43you can't make plays.
10:44You can't move up.
10:46Every individual person,
10:47De'Ami was level right here.
10:50Got into the playoffs and he started to ignite.
10:53He has to build on that.
10:54That's why they brought him back.
10:56In Jacksonville,
10:57it was kind of interesting for De'Ami too
10:58in that they had Brian Thomas
10:59coming off the big season.
11:01He did not necessarily have that.
11:03Who's the dude they traded for
11:04from the Raiders six games in?
11:07Jacoby Myers.
11:07Yeah,
11:08Jacoby Myers came in
11:09and kind of lit it up for them.
11:10So,
11:11the Jacksonville situation was interesting.
11:14I don't know what De'Ami is or isn't.
11:16I don't know if he's the guy
11:17we've seen in the regular season
11:18for four years here
11:20that didn't have a ton of production.
11:21He did have that incredible
11:22three-game run in the playoffs.
11:25If you get that version of him,
11:27this whole conversation
11:29about who's the second receiver
11:30is moot.
11:32I don't know if you're going to get that version,
11:33but there was a window.
11:35There was a glimpse.
11:36To quote Marty Schottenheimer,
11:38there was a gleam
11:39of this dude having significant ability.
11:41Yeah.
11:42And I think that's what they're trying to build on.
11:44That's what you try every year.
11:46Just like we see first-rounders
11:48every year coming to the league
11:49and they don't get to that.
11:51It'd take them a little time
11:52to get to it.
11:53They are trying to see
11:54if they can recoup
11:55what he did two years ago.
11:57Let's go to Drew in D.C.
12:00Drew, what do you think
12:00about this receiver group?
12:03Man, you know,
12:03hey, thanks a lot, man.
12:05And just to give y'all a hint,
12:06I'm over here at the stadium
12:07now about to redo my tickets again.
12:09So, look,
12:09I'm right here in the heart of everything.
12:10Good stuff.
12:12When I think about, man,
12:13the receiver group, man,
12:14sometimes I think people need
12:15to get away from the big names.
12:16You know, they understand,
12:17you know, the big names.
12:18They did the part to be recognized.
12:21But I think,
12:22especially with the guy from Clemson, man,
12:23I think we pretty good
12:24on the receiver core,
12:25but it wouldn't be,
12:26it would be nice to have Diggs
12:28or Keenan Allen,
12:31you know, for support.
12:31But I think they should be,
12:32you know, pretty good,
12:34you know,
12:34because like I said,
12:34we don't know all the intangibles.
12:36Just like with the center position,
12:37you know,
12:38I'm really worried about
12:38the center position,
12:39but they might say,
12:40hey, we got that part covered.
12:42And another thing I'm saying,
12:43I'm glad I was hurt
12:44when they let De'Ami Brown go.
12:46Because all the thing
12:48I could think about
12:48when he,
12:49when Daniels laid that pass
12:51in him on that Detroit,
12:52when he just laid that ball
12:53over his head
12:54at that Detroit game, man.
12:55So I'm glad he's back, man.
12:56Because he's like a hidden gem, man.
12:58Because when they run that
12:58wide receiver screen,
13:00there was money in the bag, man.
13:01Y'all keep up the good work
13:02and stay blessed, man.
13:03Appreciate you, Drew, man.
13:04I just got this tweet from Monty
13:06and I like this.
13:07He said,
13:07as far as Diggs versus Allen,
13:09I'm ready to focus
13:10on the guys on the roster.
13:12Adam Peters drafted Luke,
13:14Lane,
13:15Senate,
13:15and Antonio Williams.
13:16Let's see someone
13:17in that group step up.
13:19It's time for one of those guys
13:20to emerge.
13:21I think that's correct.
13:23Like,
13:24Luke was a third rounder.
13:26Lane was a fourth rounder.
13:28Senate was a second rounder.
13:29Williams was a third rounder.
13:32Williams hasn't had
13:33any opportunity yet, right?
13:35He's had a mini camp.
13:36Oh, yeah.
13:36He hasn't been on the field.
13:38Maybe he plays.
13:39Maybe Luke,
13:40Lane,
13:41Senate,
13:41maybe one of those dudes
13:42does emerge.
13:43What if Jalen Lane
13:44comes back
13:45a way crisper route runner
13:47and with cleaner routes
13:49come cleaner hands?
13:50Yeah.
13:51I'll tell you one thing.
13:52I can tell you.
13:53He's working at it.
13:54Right.
13:55That dude works.
13:56He's not going to be a guy
13:57that's sitting around
13:57not doing anything.
13:58So you got to allow
14:00some time before.
14:01All of those dudes
14:01were just in L.A.
14:02for these workouts.
14:03Like,
14:03they are on the roster
14:04and working with the quarterback
14:06and learning the offense.
14:08Yeah.
14:08So there is something to that.
14:11We'll see what,
14:12if anything,
14:12emerges from it.
14:14Nick is in Maryland.
14:15Nick,
14:16what do you think
14:16of the receiver room?
14:17All right,
14:18guys.
14:19Listen,
14:19Bill,
14:19I think we're so busy
14:20going out to our number two.
14:22I think we got four or five
14:23number twos
14:24on our team
14:27because our number one
14:29is not a true
14:30great number one.
14:31I love them.
14:32Don't get me wrong.
14:33I love them.
14:34But I have a lot to say
14:35about our number one.
14:37And yesterday,
14:38I think it was,
14:39we were talking,
14:41nobody mentioned Luke
14:42about coming up
14:43and being,
14:44you know,
14:45the question you had was
14:46who's going to stand out
14:47next year.
14:48And I think we got,
14:50I think we got four or five.
14:51I think it was being mentioned
14:52we're talking about it.
14:53Maybe we already have
14:54our second,
14:56two or three second
14:57five receivers.
14:58I don't know.
14:59And plus the tight end situation,
15:01I love tight ends.
15:02I don't know.
15:03It's my thing.
15:03And I just,
15:04I think maybe we stay pat.
15:06And I didn't know that,
15:08what's his name,
15:09had all those,
15:10you know,
15:11court cases still coming up.
15:13I thought he was past all that.
15:14But I really,
15:16to be honest with you,
15:16it's a darn channel
15:17about IU.
15:18He's just,
15:19he's just a man,
15:20a young man
15:21that basically needs help.
15:22And I hope we're not talking
15:23about something bad
15:24happened to him
15:25where he gets to himself,
15:26you know,
15:26down the road about,
15:27what could we have done better
15:29or what could have been done.
15:31But,
15:32I don't know.
15:33I just,
15:33I think that maybe
15:34we can go hold the app,
15:36fellas.
15:36I love the show.
15:37I'll talk to y'all later.
15:37All right, man.
15:38Appreciate you, Nick.
15:39Thank you, man.
15:40I want to be clear
15:42on something
15:42and I don't mean this heartless
15:44or,
15:45you know,
15:48dismissive.
15:50Civil suits
15:51are entirely different
15:53than legal matters
15:55with the police.
15:57Yeah.
15:59Steph runs his life
16:00how he wants to run his life.
16:01I'm not going to get bogged down
16:03in the civil suits.
16:04Like,
16:04that's not going to,
16:06if I'm running
16:07a football program,
16:08that is not going
16:09to enter into
16:11my purview.
16:12Maybe you got to be
16:13aware of it.
16:15Every,
16:15every team in the NFL
16:17has their own
16:19security detail
16:20that looks into things.
16:22When a team,
16:23when teams start telling you
16:24they're not concerned
16:25about something,
16:25this,
16:25and I want every fan
16:26to listen to this.
16:27When a team tell you
16:28they're not concerned,
16:29you can read what you want
16:31and say what you want.
16:32Believe me,
16:33they know.
16:34They have
16:35former FBI
16:36and CIA's
16:38and former police department
16:39people
16:39watching every player
16:41on every team.
16:42A lot of times
16:43they know what's about
16:44to happen
16:44before it happens.
16:46Even there are times
16:47when they go up
16:47to a player
16:48and they pull your coat
16:49and say,
16:49yo,
16:51I advise you
16:52to stop hanging
16:52where you're hanging.
16:54And if you keep
16:55doing what you're doing,
16:56you're a dumbass.
16:57Okay?
16:57Let's be real.
16:59Because they just told you
17:00they know what you're doing,
17:01you back off.
17:03Don't think
17:03any of these teams
17:04don't have
17:05a connect
17:06with the police department
17:07and even
17:08private investigators
17:10to know what the hell
17:11is happening.
17:12They know already.
17:14So,
17:14no one calls up here
17:16and says anything
17:17on the radio
17:19that the team
17:20probably already know.
17:21That's why I thought
17:22it was
17:23such a joke
17:24when the
17:25Brandon Iyuk
17:26arrest warrant
17:27news emerged.
17:29Like,
17:29somebody told
17:30somebody something.
17:31Yeah, yeah.
17:31Because there's no way
17:32the Niners aren't
17:33at least in
17:35regular contact
17:37with the Santa Clara
17:38County Police Department.
17:39Yes.
17:39Or the Santa Clara
17:40County Attorney General
17:41or whatever that is.
