All the talk around Washington this offseason has been about adding another pass catcher, but do the Commanders even need one?

00:00I'm having a conversation here about the receiver position,
00:03and I think a lot of people are excited about Steph Diggs.
00:07To me, of the players that are available at the receiver position,
00:13Diggs is by far the top of the heap.
00:15He went for 1,000 last year on a Super Bowl team.
00:20He's no longer the 1,500-yard guy he was at one point in his career,
00:24but he can play, and he's available.
00:28There is a dude that hasn't played in 19 months that isn't available
00:32that everybody wants to talk about.
00:34We're not doing that.
00:36You also have a lot of other guys that are available.
00:42Tyreek Hill?
00:43I have no idea what his health situation will be.
00:48White Brime, when did Hill get injured?
00:50Because that was a massive injury.
00:53Debo's available.
00:54Steph.
00:56Curtis Samuel?
00:56Don't Ask Ron About Surgery?
01:00DeAndre Hopkins.
01:01Week four for Tyreek Hill.
01:02What was it?
01:03Week four.
01:05I mean, has Tyreek Hill posted anything?
01:09Give me a Tyreek Hill social media browse about.
01:15It's going to be really interesting.
01:17Keenan Allen is out there.
01:20Noah Brown.
01:21Zay Jones.
01:22Man, was my Zay Jones evaluation incorrect back in the day at Mobile?
01:27I really liked him.
01:30I just, Diggs is, to me, do you agree, B?
01:35Of all the guys that are available at this point, Diggs is the best player.
01:39It'd probably be Hill, but he's coming off a massive injury.
01:41They're available, yeah.
01:43You also have receivers on the roster that a lot of people, I guess, are uncomfortable with.
01:49Let's go to the phones.
01:51Drew is in Graysonville.
01:52Drew, what's up, man?
01:54Hey, guys.
01:55How you doing?
01:55Good.
01:56How are you?
01:57Good.
01:58My view on the current receivers, I think we need to add one, because as much as I like
02:04Dianey, and I'm hopeful this guy Williams can play well, and Burke, and whatnot, I think
02:10we've got a lot of guys with potential, but we also have a lot of low floors, and I'd
02:15like to bring in a guy that's going to increase the likelihood that we can increase our floors
02:19and have someone reliable.
02:20I think we need someone besides Terry reliable for Jaden.
02:24I think that's a big deal.
02:25And in terms of how I might compare Diggs to Hopkins, I think Diggs is a better move to
02:31chain guy, and Hopkins might be a better red zone guy, but I want a guy that the other
02:37defensive coordinators are going to have to respect and adjust to so we can dictate a
02:42little more on offense.
02:43And I also believe if Jaden gets into rhythm, you know, when we move downfield, opportunities
02:49open up in the red zone.
02:50So as much as I want to make sure we score when we're in the red zone, I think a
02:54guy that
02:55keeps the chains alive and helps the rest of the team get better is more important than
03:01a red zone scoring specialist.
03:04And so that's why I want Diggs, because he's the best available in that kind of criteria.
03:11Good call, Drew.
03:12Thanks, bud.
03:12Appreciate you, man.
03:15I think Diggs, I don't know that there's a big argument on that, although White Brian
03:18did just send me a video of Tyree Kill working out, which is, I don't know.
03:25I mean, he's grinding, and I don't know that, I mean, Tyree's arguably the fastest dude I've
03:36ever seen in the NFL.
03:36I don't know if you agree with that.
03:39He's among the fastest dudes I've ever seen in the NFL.
03:44But Tyree brings some stuff too, you know?
03:47Well, if you're looking at the guys I mentioned, Keenan Allen last year went for 81 catches,
03:55777 yards, 9.6 per catch, so that's sub 10, but he's a possession guy at this stage of
04:00his career, four touchdowns.
04:02Like, that is production on a team.
04:05Chargers went to the playoffs, right?
04:07And I think they got smoked in the first round.
04:09Yeah.
04:10They went to the playoffs.
04:12Let's go to my guy, Manny.
04:14I haven't heard from Manny.
04:15Manny, what's up, dude?
04:16What's up, Manny?
04:18What's up, fellas?
04:19What's up, big homie?
04:20B, what's going on, guys?
04:21Man, I'm just going to call in and say, man, why not?
04:25Because if you think about it, the last Super Bowls we won, man, we had, well, not the last
04:30ones, but the Super Bowls we won, we had two small receivers.
04:34Although they were fast, they got separation.
04:36And J.D. 5 is good to find an open mind.
04:38So if we're going to get big, because I always said I wanted both of them, although I'm a
04:45fanatic, but he ain't doing right, so we ain't done it with him.
04:50Yeah, if we can get, if our wide receivers can get separation, it doesn't matter, because
04:55we had Donnie Warren and Big Clint Diddy, and now we got a team.
05:00Man, it could be phenomenal, man.
05:02We just need separation.
05:03I don't care about none of the other stuff.
05:05If they can get separation and get open, J.D. 5 got five seconds to find, one, two, three,
05:10and then we move the chains and get the ball down in the end zone, then, man, we didn't
05:16pick the right person.
05:17So we got to get on to finding the person that's going to be here, and that's going to produce
05:23for the team.
05:24That's it.
05:25So, Manny, are you officially off the B.A.
05:28Bandwagon?
05:28No, I didn't say that yet.
05:30I ain't saying that yet until J.D. 5 said or until AP said, but if he don't start doing
05:37his business now to get himself in position for me to continue to talk about him, because
05:42see, like I said, we don't deal with bammers.
05:45He's a wild bamer, but if he's not doing what he need to do so we can have him ready
05:50when
05:51it's time to get him in here and do what we need to do, let him go where he want
05:55to go.
05:56Because, see, all of these guys we talk about, they got vicious outside of the field of things
06:04going on.
06:06All of them, Tyree, Diggs, all of them got some vicious stuff going on.
06:10The only thing I'll say, the guys that have nothing going on would be Keenan Allen and
06:15DeAndre Hopkins.
06:16There's never wrong with them, but they too old.
06:18They too old.
06:19They too old.
06:20They too old.
06:21You got to think about it.
06:22I'm only going to deal with now because, like Brian said, we're going to deal with this
06:25He turns 33 in November.
06:27Those dudes are 34.
06:28I understand, but De's got at least two years with a possible, you know what I mean?
06:33Because he's constantly doing what he needs to do.
06:35These guys, and he's not really never hurt.
06:38So, these other guys have history of being hurt.
06:40So, I'm not saying that they ain't no good because they superstars.
06:43It is what it is.
06:44But, at the same time, after this year, we need to perform this year.
06:49People need to keep their jobs this year.
06:51We need to look good this year because, after this year, we're going to be looking for a
06:55whole backfield of wide receivers.
06:58And then, if all these guys come in, they're going to be forced to play.
07:01And the ones we got, we might start their growth.
07:06So, I'm with...
07:07I appreciate the call, Manny.
07:08That's why I was with B.A., because B.A.?
07:09Yeah, okay.
07:09It's always good to hear from you, bud.
07:10Thank you, bud.
07:11All right, bud.
07:12Appreciate you.
07:15My one thing with Steph, at this stage of his career, is what is the impact to Antonio
07:21Williams?
07:21And I almost wonder, because Antonio Williams didn't go much in the spring.
07:27They were resting him up.
07:29He was a little nicked up, right?
07:30He went in minicamp, and I was impressed.
07:33I almost wonder if they want to see a couple weeks of camp with Williams going, and then
07:39maybe you make a decision on Diggs.
07:41And I guess you run the risk of, like, you could lose him between now and then, but
07:45they're clearly comfortable running that risk, or they would have signed him already.
07:49Yeah, I agree.
07:50Well, unless the money just don't work for them.
07:52But I still think his ability to route people up works on the outside, too.
08:00Because the guy that we all love, Santana, he ran inside and outside routes on people and
08:07cooked them.
08:11I think people keep looking at the size of a guy to play outside.
08:15Don't make a difference.
08:16Get open.
08:17Juan is in Fairfax.
08:18What's up, Juan?
08:20What's going on, guys?
08:21What's up, man?
08:23So, look, I'll go ahead and just, so if I can't get Stephon Diggs, I'll go ahead and go
08:29with DeAndre Hopkins.
08:30DeAndre Hopkins has still got a little bit left in the tank.
08:32You go ahead, if you can't get Stephon, go ahead and sign Stephon to probably a one- to
08:37two-year deal.
08:38After that, you need to go draft somebody out of the draft.
08:40It'll be a one-year.
08:41Okay, so I'll go ahead and either go, like I said, go with Stephon Diggs or DeAndre Hopkins.
08:47Either or.
08:48So, Hopkins last year, I just pulled his stats.
08:51Thank you for the call, Juan.
08:52Always good to hear from you, bud.
08:53Hey, hold on.
08:55Okay.
08:55And tell me that he can't be putting his hands on people.
08:59If you need a bodyguard, I got him.
09:01Pay me some money.
09:02Jeff is bleeding on his forehead.
09:05Hey, I don't put my hand on people unless they put their hands on me.
09:08He looks like Harry Potter out here.
09:09See, I let him touch me first, then guess what that means?
09:12Self-defense.
09:13Jeff did try to kind of shove you over the chair in your defense.
09:17Yeah.
09:17And then Jeff decided to put the hands on his slap box, and then you decided to put him
09:22in a lock.
09:23I just like to calm it down real quick.
09:27That's one term.
09:27You don't have to exert a lot of effort once you get him in a certain mood.
09:30The phones are packed.
09:31We'll dive into the latest be mentioned Jeff Scrap later.
09:35Let's go to Sean at Falls Church.
09:38What's up, Sean?
09:39Hey, guys.
09:40Thanks for taking my call.
09:41I appreciate it.
09:43Yeah, I'm in on Diggs.
09:45I think, yeah, he may take a couple snaps away from Antonio Williams, but I think he's
09:49more of a mentor.
09:49I think that that could be a big get.
09:52And Diggs, Hopkins, Allen, all these other guys, they have something that Iyuk doesn't
09:57have, which is stats in 2025.
09:59And I think that's the biggest thing for me.
10:01I don't know when Iyuk's birthday is, but I think he's a cancer.
10:05That's all I got.
10:06All right, bro.
10:07Thanks, bud.
10:08Cheers.
10:09I think we don't have to worry about Iyuk, frankly.
10:13I could be wrong, but I got it at sub-10% at this point.
10:18That doesn't mean zero, but let's check in with Jaden in PA.
10:22What's up, Jaden?
10:22What up, Jaden?
10:25Hey, how's it going?
10:25Can you guys hear me?
10:26Yeah, we got you.
10:28Yeah, I just don't really understand why.
10:31I don't think there's a need at all for Diggs or for Iyuk.
10:36Iyuk's probably not happening, but I don't even think we need Diggs.
10:38Like, we have Terry.
10:40And Terry just needs to play like a one.
10:42I think Daniels, I get people saying he got injured last year.
10:45He also just didn't play that well.
10:46Like, he got hurt against Seattle, but we were down by 30 at that point when he was still in.
10:50Minnesota, he wasn't playing that well, and then he got hurt late in the game, too.
10:54So, I think it's just Blau and Daniels getting back.
10:57I think Daniels has to play better than he did last year, even when he's healthy.
11:02I think Blau has to hit.
11:04He has to be a hit.
11:05I mean, look at Drake May was, what, second in MVP voting?
11:08He had Diggs, and who was the second-best receiver?
11:11It was a bunch of other guys that stepped up.
11:13Josh Allen, he never has that good of weapons, and he's won MVPs.
11:17They traded Tyreek Hill from the Chiefs.
11:19They won two Super Bowls after that.
11:21So, I think receivers are kind of overrated.
11:22You just need one guy, which we have Terry.
11:24We're paying Terry, and everyone else just has to step up.
11:27And I think the pressure, unfortunately, the first-time play caller is on Blau.
11:31Blau has to be a hit, and Daniels has to go back to playing well.
11:34We were just fine two years ago, and Daniels was a top-three quarterback in the league.
11:38So, I don't think we need to bring on—
11:40I think it's a pretty reasonable call, Jayden.
11:43I appreciate the call.
11:44Because I think we live in a fantasy football prop bet world
11:48where people just get so focused on names at wideouts.
11:51If you look at the Pats last year, it's pretty similar to the commanders from two years ago.
11:56Steph Diggs was their only receiver over 1,000 yards.
11:59Their second-leading receiver was the tight end, Hunter Henry.
12:02Then it was Mack Hollins with 46 catches for 550 yards.
12:07And then their fourth was Travion Henderson with 35 catches for 220.
12:10If you look at that and comp that to the 24 commanders, it was Terry, then Ertz, then O.Z.,
12:18then Eckler.
12:19Like, it's not that different.
12:20And if the offense is way more functional and you run the ball better,
12:26like, the addiction to they have to add somebody and bring somebody in, like, the compulsive—
12:32I have said exactly what he just said the whole damn last two, three weeks.
12:36I've said what we need to do.
12:38Stop worrying about another receiver.
12:40Get other people in other positions.
12:42But overall, what he did not mention, what I would mention now,
12:46the Patriots and the Seahawks had a damn good defense.
12:51We didn't.
12:52We didn't.
12:52We didn't.
