00:00but it appears that baseball Brett has called the show this morning.
00:03Hello, Brett.
00:04Good morning, Greg.
00:05How are you?
00:06What's happening?
00:07How are we?
00:08Excellent.
00:09I'm wondering what this Red Sox team really is.
00:13They've dragged me back in.
00:14Have they dragged you back in, baseball, Brett?
00:16Yeah, they've made it an interesting summer.
00:19It looks like we have a season,
00:21and we've got 17 games to decide if you're going to buy or sell.
00:24So I figured it was an appropriate time to call in and say hello.
00:27Yes.
00:29If you were Bresbot, would you be a buyer or a seller?
00:32I think you have to be a buyer.
00:34Okay.
00:35Yeah, I think they've put themselves – they've earned it.
00:38They've put themselves in a spot where if you win 14 to 16,
00:41they had a huge hole under the new regime, under the new manager,
00:45they seem to be playing really, really well.
00:47So they've certainly earned it.
00:49They've scrapped together some wins,
00:51and they've put themselves right square in the wild card race.
00:55So good for them.
00:56Do you think they need to put an extension
00:58in the clubhouse so there's room for Roman Anthony?
01:02Yeah.
01:03Listen, there's so much talk going on right now about Roman Anthony
01:09and about the young kids and about the vibes.
01:12It's incredible to me, Curtis.
01:15It's incredible to me how quickly Boston turns.
01:20And just listening to other shows and the diatribe going on around the city,
01:25it's crazy.
01:26And the fact that these people have a voice that are just casting aspersions
01:32on young people's character that just isn't true is just – it's crazy to me.
01:38And then stuff picks up, and the scope of what people are saying is just so inaccurate.
01:48It's crazy, but, you know, we don't have time for that.
01:51The fact that they sent Roman down to Fort Myers, you know,
01:55they did it last year when he got hurt, too, at the end of the season to try to get
01:59ready,
01:59to try to ramp up for the playoffs.
02:01Him and Marcelo both got hurt at the end of the year.
02:03And they did the same thing last year.
02:05So I'm not quite sure why they did that, but –
02:08Well, what narrative-wise, what is incorrect in your mind?
02:14When you say that someone goes out all the time and, you know, there's like –
02:19and Marcelo Meyer is a bad character influence on Roman,
02:23and, you know, their just only thing they're interested in is going out and partying.
02:28It's just not true, in my opinion.
02:31I'm just – it's just my opinion.
02:33I just don't think it's accurate.
02:36You know, I think Roman – Roman's a 22 – when he got hurt, he was 21 years old.
02:42He's 22 now.
02:43He's a 22-year-old kid with a ton of money.
02:45But all he wants to do is play baseball.
02:48He grew up playing baseball.
02:50That's literally all he's ever done.
02:52And I bet you it's absolutely killing him not to be a part of this run, of this season.
03:01And the kid came in with – kid came in with MVP aspirations, right?
03:06He was getting votes for, like, preseason MVP.
03:09To be sitting out and not a part of playing baseball is just wild.
03:14No one wants to be sitting in a training room and going through the rehab process every single day
03:18and not playing baseball.
03:19It's just – go ahead.
03:21But isn't your issue, Brett, more with the organization than it is with the media?
03:24Like, they did everything they could to throw him under a bus.
03:29A thousand percent.
03:30They – the problem was after 30 games – after 30 games, Roman got hurt.
03:35And the roster construction was so poor going into the season,
03:40and they surrounded him with absolutely zero help at that point in the season
03:47that they had to try to rush him back.
03:49He's a 21-year-old kid.
03:51They're trying to rush him back.
03:52Sam wants to sell tickets.
03:54Craig wants to save his job because if he doesn't, he's going to get fired.
03:57So they're trying to rush the kid back.
03:58If they had just said what the Yankees said with Aaron Judge,
04:03he's out for eight weeks.
04:04Don't – he's done for eight weeks.
04:07When his rib is healed, he'll be back.
04:09The Pittsburgh Pirates, and no one cares about the Pittsburgh Pirates,
04:11but Connor Griffin, the 21-year-old superstar phenom who signed a deal just like Roman,
04:16hurt his finger, very similar to Roman.
04:19They said he's out for eight to ten weeks.
04:21They didn't say, hey, we're going to put his DL stint back to retroactive
04:26to when he got hurt, and we're going to try to, you know,
04:29get this thing going here in a few days.
04:31They automatically came out, Curtis,
04:33and they assessed the situation, and they said he's out for –
04:36if they had just said he's out for six to eight weeks,
04:39I think this changes the narrative.
04:41And I think the same thing's going on with Garrett Crochet where they came in
04:46and they said Garrett Crochet is out for however long, right?
04:50And no one cares that Garrett Crochet is going out and doing Sam Adams
04:53like he's doing a tour of bars tonight with Sam Adams.
04:56No one's saying anything about that.
05:01Because he's achieved more in his career than Roman Anthony.
05:04He's actually done stuff.
05:06I mean, I'm sorry, Garrett Crochet is in a different spot than Roman Anthony.
05:09And if the organization is willing to say these things,
05:12it means there is at least a small amount of credibility
05:16to the concerns about what he's doing off the field.
05:19Like, you can't tell me that the clubhouse is too small to have Roman Anthony in it,
05:23and that's why he's in Fort Myers.
05:25Yeah, no one believes that.
05:27Yeah, that may be true.
05:30I'm not – it is what it is, Curtis, on that one.
05:33But I think the roster construction was so poor going into the year
05:36that they panicked and they tried to rush him back.
05:39And I think you saw that.
05:41If they had just said from the start, I think it was just a poor handling
05:46from the Red Sox organization where if they had just said from the start
05:49what the injury was or diagnosed it properly, then none of this would be going on.
05:54All right.
05:55And you're saying regardless of what they do over the next whatever it is,
06:0017 games till the deadline, you're a buyer if you're Craig Breslow automatically.
06:06Yeah, you've got to be over five.
06:08I think they're going to be – if they're 500 or better, they're going to be.
06:12I think they have to be – I think they've got to go 10 and 17 in that stretch
06:16to be a legitimate buyer.
06:18I think it changes the – it changes the deadline.
06:21If you can go 10 and 7 against – these are quality teams coming up too
06:26and a bunch of teams in your division, the Dodgers are mixed in there,
06:30then you put yourself squarely in the conversation of a legitimate buyer,
06:35not just a kind of on the fringes, you know, a couple of small deals here
06:40and there, but, you know, you can start to make some baseball trades too.
06:44And I know Curtis is going to hate this, but you could trade Jaron Duran
06:50and get back.
06:51I know, Curtis, you're going to lose sleep at night
06:55because I heard you talk about Jaron Duran over the last several months
06:59and I know that would –
07:00I mean, who's going to swear to fans if he's gone?
07:05Oh, boy.
07:06Yeah.
07:07Yeah, I mean –
07:09Appreciate it.
07:09There's baseball, Brett.
