11 July - National forecast presented by Jonathan Vautrey.
Transcript
00:00Hello there, a very good evening to you. I hope you've had a lovely start to the weekend.
00:04Heatwave has been continuing, particularly across southwestern regions, where many sites have again surpassed 30 degrees Celsius.
00:12It's our seventh consecutive day of surpassing that mark during this heatwave.
00:17It is generally going to be western regions that see the best of some sunny intervals to end today.
00:22There are a few thunder storms that will actually clear off parts of southern Scotland and northern England,
00:26but further towards the east, it's going to be cloud that's building in overnight.
00:30And actually, by the end of the night, it will have spread very far inland, across the Midlands, into areas
00:34of Wales and other western regions.
00:36Quite a misty, murky end to the night with some drizzle over higher ground.
00:40A mild night for most of us, though, with temperatures holding around 15 to 17 degrees Celsius.
00:45Actually, reasonably warm down towards the southwest, where potentially we could locally hold around 20 degrees Celsius,
00:52which would be another tropical night.
00:55It will take some time, but certainly into the morning, the cloud will eventually break and lift up.
01:01And increasingly for England, Wales and Northern Ireland, we're likely to see a decent amount of sunshine developing over the
01:06course of Sunday.
01:07The cloud probably lingering over areas of Scotland, but at least that drizzle generally tending to disappear.
01:14And it will be a dry day for most, though perhaps the odd shower just skirts in very far southwest
01:17of England.
01:18It is going to be the far southwest, once again, that holds on to the highest temperatures during Sunday.
01:2431, maybe 32 degrees Celsius is quite probable.
01:28A little fresher out towards the east coast, where we've got this breeze coming in off the North Sea.
01:33And that's providing a respite from the heat that we've seen over recent days.
01:37But increasingly towards the end of Sunday overnight into Monday, that wind is going to be strengthening as high pressure
01:43and low pressure push against each other.
01:45We've got this squeeze in the ice bars and it will turn very gusty, particularly through the English Channel, where
01:50we could see gusts in excess of 35, 40 miles an hour at time.
01:54So the waves certainly will turn quite choppy later on, on Sunday and overnight, even into Monday as well.
02:01So do be aware of that if you are heading to any of these coastal regions over the next couple
02:05of days or so.
02:07Generally, though, Monday looks to be a reasonably fine day for most.
02:11Still, there'll be that area of cloud just lingering at times across some eastern coastal regions.
02:15But head further inland, there'll be plenty of sunshine for most.
02:18A few showers, then once again, just trying to push their way into the very far south.
02:22But most of us, again, will be staying dry.
02:25Temperatures, again, will be peaking towards the southwest around 29.
02:29Locally, 30 degrees Celsius is still possible.
02:32But always to the north and the east, it will be that little bit fresher, particularly where you are once
02:36again exposed to that breeze coming in from the North Sea.
02:41The potential is that we hold on to 30 degrees Celsius throughout the rest of next week as well.
02:47So that's ongoing heat wave is very likely across southern regions of the UK.
02:52We'll have further details of that on our social media channels and here on YouTube.
02:56So we'll see you again later on.
02:57Bye-bye.
