01:07From Volunteer Point, which is a spot, is a beautiful beach, about two hours drive out of Stanley, one of
01:19which is very, very off-road.
01:24A very boggy run out this morning after all the rain we've had in the last week.
01:31And at this location there is a colony of king penguins and gentoos, as well as lots of magellanics as
01:41well.
01:41Oh, giant petrel just flew past. Incredible birds.
01:46Yeah, so fantastic spot. There's not much going on on the beach.
01:51Oh, there's a gent who just come out the water.
01:57I'm just coming up the beach now.
02:05Let's get a quick shot of him. Sorry.
02:20Yeah, so what was I saying? There's not much happening on the beach at the moment.
02:24Most of the penguins are up at the colony where there's lots of chicks, some very, very big ones, king
02:31penguins, really real tubsters and quite furry as well,
02:36though a few of them are shedding quite a lot now as well, getting rid of their baby plumage.
02:43I was here about ten days ago, I guess, when we were between islands.
02:49We flew from one of the islands. We flew back to Stanley for a night.
02:53And on that afternoon we came out here, but the weather was absolutely appalling.
02:59So we didn't really get much footage. I'll show you some of that.
03:02I'll probably cut some of that in anyway with what I get today.
03:06So we've come back today, this afternoon, on the final day of our trip here.
03:12Tomorrow we fly back or start our journey back, I should say.
03:16Tomorrow we fly back to Santiago and then that's Saturday and then Monday flying back to Europe.
03:25So this is the last afternoon of photography in the Falklands.
03:32And it is an absolutely stunning location.
03:35We had rain earlier and look, some threatening clouds over that way and more threatening clouds that way.
03:43So we'll see how long this sunshine lasts and hopefully we might get a couple of shots.
03:51Like I said, there's not much on the beach at the moment.
03:53There's a few odd penguins coming in and out of the water, but no groups.
03:58What I wanted to try and do is see if I can get any swimming in and catch them porpoising
04:04in the breaking waves.
04:08That's unlikely to happen by the looks of things, so I might just end up back at the colony filming
04:14the chicks.
04:16We'll see.
04:18Anywho, that's the lay of the land at the moment.
04:22So I'll catch up with you in a little while.
04:26Hopefully with some king penguins in shot, so I shall see in a sec.
04:31So a little bit of excitement.
04:33There's a sea lion out in the water.
04:40I've just been trying to get some shots of him.
04:43If I can find him again.
04:47Because he keeps...
04:48There he is.
04:52Keeps on disappearing on me.
05:11He's taking a peek at me, I think, to see who I am, what I am.
05:21Hopefully...
05:22Not thinking to himself, am I worth eating?
06:11He's going back out again now.
06:16There he is.
06:35He's parallel with me now.
06:38Although he's under the water.
06:39There he is, up again.
06:45I hope he's not coming to me, is all I can say.
06:50Because I'm going to have to run for it.
06:52If he is.
07:17This wind isn't helping me.
07:22Okay, so he's gone back down again.
07:29There's apparently...
07:30This isn't him, because this is not a big bull male.
07:35But there's apparently a bull male that has been...
07:43Let me just reframe this.
07:45That has been terrorizing the king penguins here.
07:57And has been taking six or seven of them, apparently, a day.
08:02He's absolutely decimating the colony here.
08:07But this isn't him.
08:09So, obviously, that bull is a very dangerous animal.
08:14This chap, though, is not a big bull.
08:20I've lost him now.
08:24Eyes in the surf.
08:52But he is probably prowling for penguins.
09:03I think they are the primary predators of the little penguins here.
09:10Even the big penguins, the kings.
09:21I've lost him again.
09:25There he is.
09:32Doesn't take much to lose him behind the waves.
09:38And I've lost him again.
09:40Oh.
09:43There's...
09:47Giant Petrol.
10:01What's that?
10:07I know there's a duck there.
10:10He's still there, the sea lion.
10:17He's still there, the sea lion.
10:18Okay.
10:19So, I'm going to hang on here with him for a while.
10:24And see if any penguins come along as well.
10:28I shall catch you in a sec.
10:32Okay.
10:33So, I'm heading off the beach to the nesting colonies of the kings and the gentoos.
10:45I only managed to get a couple of distant shots in the end of the kings.
10:49Uh, there wasn't any about, really.
10:53And I think with the sea lion in the water patrolling, they're, uh, unlikely to be down
11:00any time soon.
11:01And I've only got an hour left here before we have to head back to the town.
11:07So, I thought I'd head up to the colony and see if I can get some shots there of the
11:12chicks.
11:13Okay.
11:14So, I'm at the, uh, king penguin colony, which you can see behind me here.
11:22And you can, hopefully, you can see these chaps here.
11:27You've got some real furry ones, youngsters.
11:30There are some that are halfway through losing their down.
11:34And then the adults.
11:37And they're just so cool.
11:38Let me see if I can get you closer with this camera.
12:01Let me see if I can get you closer.
12:02Let me see if I can get you closer with this camera.
12:07Let me see your look.
12:09Let me see.
12:12Let me see.
12:14Let me see.
12:15Let me see.
12:15Okay.
12:23Let me see.
12:28All right.
14:02Yeah, so that wraps up not only this video from Volunteer Point but also the entire series.
14:06So thanks so much for following along.
14:10I hope you've enjoyed and I shall catch you in the next one.
14:13Bye for now.
