Dear Friends,

This week.. our last visit to one of the Falklands outer islands... Pebble Island ..where we visited an amazing Rockhopper colony amongst whom were also nesting two pairs of very charismatic Macaroni Penguins.

Fighting through squalls of high wind and sideways sleet and rain interspersed with a few glimpses of sun, this was one of our most challenging locations yet but incredibly worth the effort.

Hope you enjoy. My thanks to you all for your support and friendship and as always my thanks to Cindy & Alan without whom this trip would have never happened.

Thank you also to all those who gave their opinion in my poll regarding the graphic predation scene... in the end I decided, despite the results being over 60% in favour of showing it, to cut it from this video. 40% of people either wanting a warning or preferring it to be cut is a large enough number of viewers who might be put off.

00:05This video is brought to you by R.I.P.
00:55So hello my friends, I hope you're doing well.
00:59I am on Pebble Island, at the far western end, where there is a rockhopper colony filming,
01:12and in amongst them are three macaroni penguins as well, which I'm just, so one of them, one
01:21of the three has decided to take a walk right now, so I've got him in, oh, and he's being
01:26chased, so they're quite distinguishable from the rockhoppers, a little bit taller, and they're,
01:43the facial feathers that they have, the yellow feathers, they're slightly longer, well, quite
01:48a bit longer, and more orange, so they're quite distinguishable, let's get a close-up.
02:00So I'm just following one, there's another pair that have been cuddled for a while, and we'll
02:10see if we can get some shots of rockhopper chicks as well, which, on this colony, they're quite
02:17well-developed and quite cranky looking.
02:28The wind, as always, is an issue, in terms of getting steady footage, and also, for you
02:38to hear me, I'm not sure that you're actually hearing what I'm saying, but we'll give it
02:54a couple of showers on the way here, but so far, since we've gotten here, it's cold in.
03:15But we'll see, the wind is a real issue, though, with the shaky footage.
03:26It's absolutely stunning location here.
03:34Let's see the other ones, have they woken up?
03:45Oh, they're displaying!
03:55Ah, I missed it.
03:59They stooped down, and amongst all the rockhoppers, I lost them, and then suddenly they lifted
04:03their heads and were displaying to each other, which is a shame, I missed that.
04:09Hopefully they'll display again.
04:21Amazing.
04:23What an incredible place Falklands is.
04:26And every island seems to have a different collection.
04:29There's the few standard ones, the Gentous and the Magellanics.
04:34But every island seems to have its own unique signature.
04:41So it's absolutely amazing to be here.
04:48I hope they'll display again.
04:49Come on, guys.
04:52So I think I caught a little bit of the display, the macaroni's display.
05:02They sort of face each other with their wings back, and shake their heads.
05:08It's rather pretty.
05:25A few drops of rain coming in now.
05:29It should make it interesting.
05:34Oh, here we go.
05:38Yes!
05:44They're quite defensive too when anybody comes near them.
05:53I just hope I can stabilize this in post.
05:57Because the wind is not doing me any favors here.
06:26Oh, there's another couple of macaroni's.
06:34They're on a taller rock.
06:36Oh, here we go.
07:05One more eggs too, the macaroni's.
07:12But then you can hear now.
07:42They're swapping over, I think, on the nest.
07:53Oh my goodness, they're so cute.
08:07So the chicks at this colony, of the rockhoppers, are much more developed than at the other ones.
08:14They're really quite chunky here.
08:19So they're obviously doing well at this colony.
08:23So I'm going to make my way down onto the rocks as well to see if I can catch them
08:27coming to and from the colony and actually getting in the water as well.
08:31Oh, look at them approaching me now.
08:33Hello.
08:38Hello.
08:42They're absolutely fabulous.
08:44Fabulous.
08:45I hope they're in shot.
08:48Let me just turn this slightly.
08:55Are they in shot?
08:56I can't tell.
08:58But they've literally just walked up to me.
09:07Let's see if I can get a shot of them.
09:08Oh no, I can't.
09:10I was going to get a shot of them on the phone.
09:13But I've got my waterproofs on.
09:15So I can't get it.
09:16And they're too close for me for this camera.
09:24Hello.
09:49Just checking me out.
09:51Making sure I'm no threat.
09:58Absolutely amazing.
10:00It's so beautiful.
10:06I feel just so lucky to be here.
10:08It's amazing.
10:14Wind and rain coming in strong now.
10:23But I do want to get a shot of the rock hoppers on the rocks.
10:41Oh my god.
10:42Yes.
10:43No, sir.
10:54That's why I'm doing this i can't figure it out.
11:02Yeah?
11:11Overall, you had to push me back.
11:19Oh my god, this is not very comfortable to shoot at.
12:09Oh, hello.
12:12I love the news.
12:15No, I'm in your way.
12:17I know.
12:18Let me move.
12:20Come on.
12:31I'll stop.
12:32You go there, I'll go here.
12:45You go there.
12:48You go there.
12:55You go there.
13:30Okay, so that's it from Pebble Island.
13:35almost got blown off the cliff yesterday filming those rock hoppers the weather really set in after
13:43that had a few squalls come through this is a couple of Gentoo penguin colonies and a giant
13:50petrol colony as well after that and I'll do a little montage now for you to show you all of
13:57that which I hope you will enjoy we're flying today from Pebble Island back to Stanley for the
14:06last couple of days of this trip and whilst there we're hoping to visit a place called Volunteer
14:11Point where there's a beautiful huge sandy beach and a king penguin colony so that should be fun
14:22too and the last video will be from there which is the next one so I hope you've enjoyed watching
