Commercial Street closed again ahead of Parkway East closure
Transcript
00:00I'm Pat Saptak. Once again, Commercial Street is closed. NewsRadio KDK's David Bollorano is in the newsroom with more. David?
00:09But this time, Pat, it won't just be for a few hours like it was on Thursday and Friday.
00:13It's closed now until after all the cleanup work is done following the replacement of the Commercial Street Bridge.
00:18This closure is so they can do some last-minute prep work for the demolition of the bridge,
00:22which will mean that must discuss disclosure, closure rather, the parkway east between Wilkinsburg and Oakland starting on July 10th.
00:27That closure that's in effect today means drivers who usually take the Commercial Street-Forward Avenue area
00:32will be rerouted through Monongahela Avenue, South Braddock, Forbes, Beachwood, and Forward Avenues.
00:37When the parkway reopens, this closure, as we noted, will still be in effect for a while,
00:41and so crews have enough time to finish the cleanup so they're sure that it's safe for drivers
00:45and the people who use the nine-mile trail below to use it safely.
00:50In the newsroom, David Bollorano, NewsRadio KDKA.
00:53An investigation is now underway following a deadly crash in Pittsburgh's Brookline neighborhood.
00:59This happened around just 7 o'clock on Brookline Boulevard.
01:03Investigators say that a motorcycle rider died after slamming into an SUV that was trying to turn left out of
01:09a business driveway.
01:11Police say the driver of the SUV did remain on the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
01:16We now know the names of two people killed after crashing along the Pennsylvania Turnpike early Saturday morning.
01:24The county coroner says that Hunter Fraunius and Raymond Foster died after Fraunius lost control of the Ford Explorer that
01:32they were in.
01:33It happened near Hemfield Township.
01:36The SUV hit an embankment and slammed into an overpass before flipping over.
01:41State police are now investigating.
01:42It's back to court today for Luigi Mangione, the man accused of killing a health care executive on a Manhattan
01:50street back in December of 2024.
01:53The hearing today comes after sources told ABC News about talks for a possible plea deal.
01:59ABC's Phil Tate is outside federal court in Manhattan.
02:03Luigi Mangione will step back inside of a lower Manhattan courtroom.
02:07But this comes after sources say that prosecutors have put a plea deal on the table and that there have
02:12been discussions between prosecutors and defense attorneys for Luigi Mangione.
02:16It's unclear how far these conversations even went towards even coming to an agreement.
02:20But we know at some point those conversations went silent.
02:24The city of Pittsburgh will open cooling centers starting today as the temperatures are expected to reach into the mid
