00:05So the new Star Trek series, Starfleet Academy, began streaming on Paramount Plus last month from January 15th, 2026.
00:17Watching this and thinking about this, another piece of the puzzle fell into place.

00:42Alright, so Starfleet Academy, part of Alex Kurtzman's expanded Star Trek universe set in the 32nd century.
00:49Chronologically, this follows on from Star Trek Discovery, which ran between 2017 and 2024.

01:17I remember people talking about this in the 1980s.
01:20It's been the subject of video games.
01:24And the idea is that in the Star Trek universe, you have the Federation, which is a group of aligned
01:32star systems, planets, and alien races.
01:36Travel between the worlds.
01:38Takes place on these large starships.
01:42It's organized a lot like a contemporary navy.
01:47And the individual crew members of the ships are trained.
01:51This was traditionally located in the city of San Francisco.
01:56You can see the Academy shown in a big way in the Star Trek The Next Generation TV series.

02:23If you follow his character through this series, he of course starts out living aboard the Enterprise D with his

02:37And he contributes in key ways in many episodes of the series.
02:42He takes the Starfleet entrance exam in Coming of Age Season 1, Episode 19, broadcast in 88, and goes on
02:52to become a Starfleet officer.
02:54There's a major episode with Wesley as a cadet, Season 5, Episode 19, and The First Duty.
03:02In this, you'll see guest stars Ray Walston, Robert Duncan McNeil, who plays a different character to his later Star
03:11Trek Voyager role, and Ed Lauder is also in this.
03:14One of Will Wheaton's major movie roles, 1991 action thriller Toy Soldiers.
03:21This stars Sean Astin, Keith Coogan, Andrew Divoff, Denholm Elliott, and Louis Gossett Jr.
03:28In this story, there's a group of young men who attend a boarding school, prep school.
03:35It's raided and taken over by a team of mercenaries.
03:41They wire the school up with explosives and hold the whole place hostage.
03:48But Louis Gossett Jr., who plays the dean, is another major link to the near-present day.
03:56Gossett appeared with action star Chuck Norris in the 1986 adventure comedy Firewalker, directed by J. Lee Thompson, with Melody
04:08Anderson, Sonny Landham, and John Rhys-Davies.
04:12Landham's name is significant, and this relates to his role in the 1987 sci-fi action film Predator, which also
04:21starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and Carl Weathers.

04:54And this was a live-action adaptation of the children's animated series and the toy line.
