00:00While recently playing 1985 Atari arcade video game Paperboy,
00:06I thought I spotted a couple references for movies starring actor Tom Hanks,
00:13both past and future.
00:14I looked into this, and I must say, pretty impressive connections between Hanks and the actual game.
00:21In 1987, Dan Aykroyd and Tom Hanks appeared in Buddy Cop, a slapstick comedy film, Dragnet.
00:30Dan Aykroyd, known for Ghostbusters, was later in 2015 sci-fi comedy Pixels, directed by Chris Columbus.
00:41This cast featured Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Peter Dinklage, Sean Bean, and Max Frewer cameos as Max Hedrum.
00:50So the story of Pixels is like an alien invasion scenario.
00:56The aliens have modeled themselves on popular video game characters, stretching back to the 1980s.
01:03They're cameos by many popular game characters.
01:07Paperboy was among these.
01:09Perhaps a few Easter eggs to the writings and adaptations of horror author Stephen King.
01:17Hanks was in the 1999 treatment of The Green Mile.
01:23There are two lawnmowers shown in the arcade version of Paperboy.
01:27I'll talk about King's Lawnmower Man in another video.
01:32In the 1991 console-exclusive sequel, Paperboy 2,
01:38may be a rather obvious nod to King's 1986 horror novel, It.
01:45It follows seven children stalked by an evil spirit who manifests as the clown, Pennywise.
01:54I think you can see this in Paperboy 2.
01:56There are storm drains along the sidewalk and street.
02:00A large green arm and claw comes out and tries to grab the paperboy on the bicycle.
02:08You can see the claw of the clown on the poster for the IT TV miniseries in 1990 starring Tim
02:17Curry.
02:18There's a famous scene described in it, and it involves the boy Georgie Denbroff following the folded newspaper boat down
02:29the street to the gutter.
02:31This is an area where the clown lurks.
02:34Additionally, character Reginald Belch Huggins had a job as a paperboy in the story.
