00:00So, Justin, you are somebody who has spent a lot of time talking to Brad Stevens.
00:04You've had a lot of the press conferences.
00:05I thought what he was saying the other night after the draft talking about Jalen Brown was very interesting.
00:10And a lot of people are reading into his comments, as they should,
00:13because Brad Stevens is someone who has a reputation for being honest,
00:16but there are ways of being honest and invading your actual answer.
00:21And I think there was a decent amount of that.
00:22So what I want you to do, Terp, is I'm going to play a couple of these clips here.
00:25Stiz is going to tell you what he's been asked.
00:27And I want you to tell me what you think he actually means.
00:30Okay.
00:31Stiz, what's the first clip we got?
00:32All right.
00:32So here, Brad Stevens is asked about the future of Jalen Brown.
00:36I'm never going to predict the future, but, like, every indication,
00:40everything that I think about is with over the past few years has been building around those guys, right?
00:46And so, obviously, you never know.
00:49But at the same time, I think the one thing I want to make very clear is how valued he's
00:55always been.
00:55And he's been amazing.
00:58He's been an amazing teammate, great person to be around.
01:02And, you know, whether that run ends 10 years from now, when he retires or before,
01:09there's a lot to celebrate.
01:11And, you know, we have a great relationship and an open relationship where we talk about everything.
01:17And I don't want to predict the future.
01:20But, you know, I look at it as this is our team.
01:25He's going to get traded.
01:27Thank you, Wood Horse.
01:28All right, sir.
01:29What did you get from that?
01:30I take that as they're selling him because the future is in the hands of Brad Stevens.
01:34He's under contract.
01:35It's not like he can just get up and go.
01:38He's not a free agent.
01:39He's under contract for the next three seasons.
01:41So Brad Stevens is the one that would have to move him in the ownership group with Bill Chisholm and
01:45the rest of the front office.
01:47So that, to me, sounded like he was chopping him.
01:49There was a lot of his options open.
01:51A lot of past tense in that when we're talking about Jalen Brown, wasn't there?
01:54Yeah, there was.
01:55And I didn't even know Jalen had a brother.
01:57I guess you probably follow his family tree more than I do, Terp.
02:00But his brother put out that social media clip of the two of them, the Jays.
02:03Yes.
02:04It's kind of a retrospective.
02:04After the finals, yeah.
02:05Now that you think about that, it's kind of like, uh.
02:07But there was something with that, though.
02:10It wasn't there, like, after it was done.
02:12Like, the caption, didn't they put some, like, emoji that made you go, huh?
02:17Here it is.
02:18It was a shush emoji.
02:20Like, in other words, like, maybe he's.
02:23We're good.
02:23Maybe he's ripping on Jason Tatum.
02:26Maybe it's almost like, throughout all this, look at how much Tatum, like, Brown and you guys loved each other.
02:31And Tatum's not saying anything.
02:33I don't get that narrative.
02:34I've seen that thrown out there a couple different places.
02:36That makes no sense to me.
02:38When does a player.
02:39Makes sense to me, Rich.
02:39When does a teammate of a player that was in trade conversations or whatever, that hasn't, like, been traded away,
02:45come out and express, like, their feeling of wanting to keep him there.
02:49That's, like, unprecedented.
02:50Here's the one time.
02:51It's because he also hasn't said anything in support of Jalen Brown.
02:55He hasn't said anything, period.
02:56No, right.
02:57But he hasn't said anything in support of Jalen Brown when the biggest name in sports talk has been crushing
03:02him about thinking that he's ripping on Jason Tatum.
03:05So, like, if you're Jason Tatum and you're not really getting ripped on and you don't feel like you're getting
03:09ripped on, wouldn't you say something?
03:11Or would you let him hang himself, which it almost seems like he's doing right now?
03:16And I am not one of these people.
03:17I've said it from the very beginning.
03:19One of the smartest things you can do when you're done and you have this horrible loss is just disappear
03:24and not say anything because anything you say is going to come back as being bitter.
03:28But in this case, his teammate, his buddy, his 1A, 1B is getting crucified for a comment that he made
03:38about this being his best season, which the biggest name in sports talk and others are saying is a direct
03:44shot at Jason Tatum.
03:46And if you're Jason Tatum, if there's any time for you to say something, if you truly wanted to help
03:51your buddy, wouldn't this be the time?
03:53I mean, you don't know what they're saying to each other behind closed doors.
03:56It doesn't matter.
03:57You have to say it publicly.
03:58You've got to let everyone know because then it would shut Stephen A up.
04:01It would shut up all the sports talkers.
04:03Well, not shut him up, but it would just make them change the narrative.
04:07And he hasn't done that.
04:08This is like, that's just sports media, right?
04:10Like, it's most of the time ripping the players.
04:12Like, that's the unfortunate reality of it.
04:13And so there's been plenty of times where players have been getting dragged by pundits or whatever it may be,
04:18and the other teammates don't come out and step up for them.
04:22But that doesn't really happen.
04:23Well, two points to this.
04:24What set Jalen off from Stephen A. Smith the most was him saying, Tatum's not going on your Twitch stream.
04:30Why?
04:31No, seriously.
04:32In Jalen's response, he said, why are you attacking?
04:35Why are you talking about my relationship with Tatum?
04:37That's not journalism.
04:38That's why he got upset at Stephen A. and ESPN and said they have no ethics.
04:43And now Stephen A. did not address that today in all his rambling, which we'll get to, I'm sure, coming
04:47up here, in all his responses.
04:48He didn't touch the Tatum part because I think he knows that is the hot button issue.
04:52That's why Jalen had the state your source stuff in the first place multiple years ago because they said he
04:57wasn't marketable.
04:58Well, no, and he wasn't liked in the organization.
05:00Wasn't there something along that?
05:01It's like he wasn't likable and wasn't marketable.
05:04He wasn't likable.
05:04Teammates maybe not like him.
05:07I think that's where he gets very sensitive.
05:09I just think if they truly are that tight, if I saw a guy that I was that kind of
05:16relationship with, and I saw them getting absolutely crucified because there was some sort of impression that me, that I
05:25was pissed off at him.
05:26Correct.
05:26And by the way, at a nuclear level right now, because now Stephen A. Smith is like saying, I'll do
05:33anywhere you want.
05:34Not anywhere.
05:34He wants it in his studio.
05:35But any place, I will talk to you about this.
05:38And it has become the biggest story of the basketball offseason.
05:41One of the biggest stories.
05:43Dude, if I'm Jason Tatum, I'm absolutely saying something.
05:45And we did hear from Tatum.
05:46Remember the interview he recorded that aired after they had eliminated was him saying, I want to win finals MVP.
05:52Now, he taped it at the All-Star game.
05:54Yeah.
05:54But that, to me, was a schtats.
05:56Again, Tatum trying to take back his team from the guy who eliminated him from MVP, you know, won the
06:01MVP.
06:01The more I think about this, the more that if I'm Jalen Brown, I'm getting pissed that Tatum's not saying
06:07something.
06:07Correct.
06:08That's why he wants out.
06:09That's at the heart of all this is their relationship.
06:11Terp, you're wrong.
06:12Sorry to say.
06:13You're wrong.
06:14I think the heart of him possibly wanting out is that he was in a trade to package.
06:20Like, they offered him.
06:21That's old hat to him.
06:22That would be it.
06:22Is it time number five?
06:23Is it the fifth time?
06:24Explain how, what, two weeks before or right after the season, I could play in Boston 10 years.
06:29Like, there was no problem up until this.
06:31And it's reasonable to understand his frustration.
06:34This is effing wild.
06:35Like, I mean, honestly, it's like this, this just gets better every day.
06:38Cause I mean, cause I, my, my beliefs change constantly with like, you know, these definitives
06:43now from, from Windhorst, like he's going to get traded.
06:46Well, Windhorst obviously knows something.
06:48It's most likely from Jalen Brown's side, because as you said, he doesn't have a connection with
06:51the Celtics.
06:52And then the whole Tatum thing yet Tatum could end like all of this speculation that, that
06:57this was his favorite season was a shot at Jason Tatum.
07:00That's the biggest story right now.
07:01And he's not saying anything, which is really, really odd.
