Bam Adebayo?! Soon it will be Celtics trade rumor/discussion season- Wiggy suggests this offseason will start with 'the quiet guy', Brad Stevens. What do the Celtics need? Could Derrick White potentially be involved in discussions?
Transcript
00:00And we all want to know, where does it start?
00:01Too many three-pointers.
00:02Well, I'm going to tell you this.
00:04It starts with the one and only, the quiet guy, Brad Stevens.
00:09Brad Stevens, it starts with him.
00:11Reason why, I'll say this.
00:14He hand-picked Missoula.
00:17Missoula is his guy.
00:19So he has the air of Joe Missoula.
00:21So just let me put in a little bit of context for you.
00:24Missoula's tenure as coach.
00:272022 season, the Celtics finished second with three-point attempts a game ranking.
00:35With 41, 2023, 24 season, first with 42 attempts a game.
00:402024, 2025, first with 47 attempts a game.
00:45And this season, they finished third with 42 three-point attempts a game per game for their team.
00:53So if you're Brad Stevens, it has to be kind of two-part for you.
00:57You have to say, hey, Joe, listen, we have to get out of this where we're just going north of
01:0243s a game.
01:04We have to start to try to score in other ways inside the three-point line.
01:09And I have to help you where I have to build a team that doesn't rely so much on the
01:14three-pointers.
01:16Meggo and I were kind of talking about this off-air.
01:18You look at Jason Tatum.
01:19Jason Tatum is an unbelievable player who has so much skill and can score from so many ways.
01:25But he averages.
01:27If you kind of look out of him over the past four years, he's always going to be north of
01:31eight three-pointers per game.
01:34You look at a guy like SGA and some of these other players, you need to be more around five.
01:41I give you five a game, but when you're north of eight, there are some games where you take 12,
01:4613.
01:47It's just too many because you're too skilled to do it.
01:50Jalen Brown, I got no problem.
01:52Because if you look at Jalen Brown, he's probably about five, maybe six max per game.
01:57Brad Stevens needs to get Joe Mazzula and sit him down and say, here's what we need to do when
02:03it comes to our team.
02:04But I'm going to help you with building a team that isn't so reliant on the three-pointers.
02:09Okay.
02:10You would be in favor of adding Bam perhaps to this team?
02:15I know Meggo was talking about Bam out of bio as a possible trade.
02:19I would love it because if you look at him, him, Giannis, those are guys that don't shoot three-pointers.
02:24They get to the hole and they finish at the rim.
02:27He and Tatum are tight.
02:28Yeah.
02:30I think Bam's a perfect fit for this.
02:32I love Bam, but you're not getting Bam unless you're willing to give up Jalen.
02:37Miami is not giving you Bam out of Bayou, who is basically a walking double-double.
02:43Well, you think it could be done for—
02:45Money-wise, it could be done with White and Hauser.
02:49But to Wiggy's point, what else would you have to give them in terms of—
02:53I would throw in Ron Harper Jr.
02:55You'd throw in whoever you want.
02:56You'd throw in draft picks at—
02:58Would picks be enough?
02:59No, because you don't have any lottery picks.
03:02You don't have anything—
03:03So you think the only part of the Celtics roster that's going to be attractive to other teams
03:09for an impactful player now is Jalen Brown?
03:14Yep.
03:14Because he—
03:14You don't think you can execute any trade unless it involves Jalen Brown?
03:17Because you don't have a young—
03:18Not just with Bam, but with anybody.
03:20With any—
03:20No.
03:20No bonus.
03:21Nope.
03:21Any serious big that you're bringing in here.
03:23You've got to move Jalen Brown?
03:25Nobody else?
03:26Yeah, because even with Sabonis, right?
03:28The teams are going to look at it.
03:30You don't have no young, potential rising star.
03:36So, Derek White is getting older.
03:37We talked about this yesterday.
03:39I think teams would still want him because he could do a lot of different things.
03:42I would say your most attractive piece would be Peyton Pritchard.
03:48Oh, but that's the best contract in the league.
03:51But that's your most attractive piece.
03:53With that—
03:54They could say, oh, this guy could come and stop, be our point guard.
03:57He can score.
03:57He can shoot.
03:59He could do a—
03:59That's interesting.
04:00But if you look—
04:01Other than Jalen—
04:02Would you give up Peyton Pritchard in a partial package of a trade for Bam?
04:08Yes, all day long.
04:10If I could get Sabonis, I would give up Peyton Pritchard, Derek White, Sam Hauser, whoever you want.
04:15For Sabonis?
04:16I would do it for Bam.
04:18I would even do it for Sabonis.
04:19You need a big—
04:20I would also say, like, so everybody, when we would argue about the second apron,
04:25would talk about how punitive it is as it pertains to draft picks.
04:29And every conversation since the conclusion of the season has been how worthless the Celtics draft picks are.
04:35They are.
04:36So make it make sense.
04:37Yeah, unless you're a lottery team.
04:38So who cares about it?
04:39Right.
04:40Spend the money, and who cares?
04:42Exactly.
04:43Unless you're a lottery team, who the hell cares?
04:45And if you're spending money at the level the Celtics would be with the superstars they already have,
04:48they would never be in the lottery.
04:50Yeah, I don't care about the picks at all because you're in a win-now mode.
04:53Yeah, I don't want the 28th pick.
04:54Who gives a damn?
04:55All right, I blame the players.
04:57That's what the league has become.
04:58I mean, Donovan Mitchell was complaining about it,
05:01not getting to the free-throw line and goes,
05:02I don't flop.
05:03But that's what the league is.
05:06A lot of these guys flop.
05:08I don't care who it is.
05:10Luka Doncic.
05:11You didn't lose the series because Joel Embiid was flopping.
05:17No, no, no, no.
05:18So why bring it up?
05:19Why whine about it?
05:21Could you imagine if Nomar, after 03, said this was his favorite season?
05:27No.
05:27Like, what are we doing?
05:30Also, to be so unaware of your, like, what is going on around you when fans and others are looking
05:40at you
05:41and you declare this to be your favorite season?
05:44And it was my favorite year of my basketball career.
05:47Okay.
05:48And it's clear that it was your favorite year because Jason Tatum went down and you had to lead this
05:57basketball team.
05:58Correct?
05:58Like, that's what he's saying.
05:59Yeah, even if he doesn't intend for it to sound that way, like, he's saying I got to be leader
06:04to these young guys.
06:05Even if it's totally innocent, he has to be aware because he's said it before that it comes off exactly
06:11the way that you're talking about.
06:12And Mego, don't you know that he knows that that's how it comes off?
06:15He's a smart guy.
06:15Yes, and I'm okay with that.
06:17Like, if that's going to be, if it's your favorite season because you led the team, then look at yourself
06:25and the result that you got as the leader.
06:29You had an historic collapse franchise-wise.
06:34I don't believe the Celtics ever in their storied history blew a 3-1 lead in the playoffs.
06:40Am I correct about that?
06:41Yes, that's correct.
06:42It's historic.
06:44It's only happened 14 times in the entire NBA history.
06:48And you were the guy who led that.
06:51So, like, own up.
06:53And it wasn't, it was not a great season, Jalen.
06:57Like, you were the guy who was supposed to be the leader, and you blew it.
07:01Yeah, and it's also, Greg, like, I would even understand if in three months he said that.
07:07Where it's like, in hindsight, you know, we obviously, the postseason was awful,
07:11but the regular season was just so rewarding.
07:14In the immediate aftermath, your superstars were either humping Joel Embiid, smiling on the court after not playing,
07:21or on a Twitch stream, bitching about flopping and talking about how much they loved a season that ended in
07:27catastrophic fashion.
07:28And it was my favorite year of my basketball career.
07:31See, they should hire me as a consultant, because what I would have said to Jalen is that I would
07:35have said,
07:35if you want to say, statistically, this was one of my, this was my best season,
07:40but we weren't able to accomplish the goal that we wanted to as a team.
07:45That's not what he wants to say.
07:46He wants to remind you.
07:47He wants to remind you that he has been in a secondary role to Jason Tatum since he got here.
07:56And once he had the opportunity to fly, he flew like, he soared like an eagle.
08:01Like, that's what he wants to make sure you understand.
08:03This is Sean from New Hampshire.
08:05Hello, Sean.
08:07Hey, good morning, guys.
08:08I mean, could you imagine if Tom Brady said that the 2007-2008 was his favorite season of the year,
08:15because they set all the records after that loss?
08:17I mean, this team is so unlikable.
08:19It's incredible.
08:21That's a great point.
08:22You're going to upset Mago when you say they're unlikable.
08:24I don't find them unlikable, personally.
