Three years ago, Asuka lost both legs in a cruel
car accident.

It was Bell, a golden retriever, who pulled her
out of the darkness.

Bell, a female dog, is 13 years old this year.
Though elderly for an assistance dog, her
intelligence and loyalty knew no age.

One night, while Asuka relaxed on the sofa, one of
their pet cats jumped beside her.

In the commotion, a candle swaying on the table
toppled over.

The flame spread in an instant. As Asuka frantically
tried to extinguish it, she lost her balance and
tumbled from the sofa onto the floor.

To make matters worse, her prosthetic legs—her
“legs”—were left beside the table a short
distance away.

Asuka crawled across the floor, desperately reaching
out. But black smoke choked her vision, and scorching
heat burned her skin.

“Bell! Help me!”


Bell, the old dog with a golden coat, came running
immediately.

Without showing the slightest sign of confusion, she
began acting with astonishing composure.

First, she headed for the prosthetic leg, out of
Asuka's reach.

She precisely latched onto the heavy prosthetic,
avoiding the flames' heat as she carried it back to
Asuka.

Next, she fetched the smartphone left on the shelf,
carrying it in her mouth.

“Thank you, Bell...” Asuka called the fire
department with trembling hands.

All the while, Bell kept nudging her back with her
nose, desperately guiding her toward the exit.

Visibility was zero. Yet Bell knew the house's layout
perfectly.



She gently tugged on Asuka's clothes with her teeth,
leading her without hesitation along the shortest
route to the front door.

When she finally touched the cold air outside, Asuka
collapsed onto the lawn.

“I'm saved... Bell, it's all thanks to you.”

Just as Asuka tried to hug her beloved dog, tears
streaming down her face,

a faint cry pierced through the eerie sound of the
fire.

The voice of that cat, left behind inside the house.

Bell's ears snapped up, and she turned to look back
at her burning home.

“No, Bell! Don't go!”

As Asuka's cry rang out in vain, Bell looked at her
owner's face just once, her eyes showing no hesitation.



Those eyes seemed to be smiling, as if saying, “It's
okay, I'll be right back.”

Whipping her aging 13-year-old body into action, Bell
plunged into the flames.

After the fire department arrived and extinguished the
fire, Bell was found deep inside the house.

She lay collapsed, her large body wrapped around the
small cat.

Protected by Bell's fur, the cat miraculously still
breathed.

But Bell's amber eyes would never open again.

Asuka clung to Belle's body, crying out in anguish.



A press conference days later.

Asuka, her burns bandaged, spoke in a trembling voice.

"After bringing me outside,

she couldn't abandon our family cat and jumped back
into the flames."

"Bell was the bravest, kindest family member in the
