Lines from the story

When I was in middle school, my father
brought home a stray dog.

He was a cute male dog with perfectly
round eyes.

His sleeping snores sounded like
“Koko-koko,”
so I named him Koko.

My sister and I would take him for walks in
the park and play with him.

Now Koko is already 17 years old—an old man
in human years.

Lately, he hasn't been moving around much.

So much has happened since Koko came into
our lives.

My father passed away from illness, and two
years later, my mother followed him to
heaven.

Then it was just my sister and me, but Koko
helped ease our loneliness.

One day, I was running late for work and
hurried along the station platform.

Thinking I might catch my usual train,
I tried to jump on at a fast pace.

Suddenly, Coco's cry (like a howl) rang
in my ears.

I stopped and looked around, but of course,
Coco wasn't there.

Was it just my imagination...? Just as I
thought that, the train doors closed and it
pulled away.

I had no choice but to wait for the next
train, but it took forever to arrive.

Then an announcement came over the intercom:
“There has been an accident at the railroad
crossing... Trains will be delayed for a
while...”

Passengers nearby grew restless, everyone
pulling out their phones.

Anyway, since I was going to be late, I left
the station, hailed a taxi, and headed to work.

After arriving safely at the office, during
my lunch break, I was watching TV...

They were reporting on that train accident.
They said 25 people were injured.

My heart raced. That train was the one I
should have been on at that time.

Feeling uneasy, I returned home. In front of
Coco's bed, my sister was crying.

Coco lay still, not breathing. And she was
stiff... cold...

I remembered the sound of Coco crying I heard
back then.

If I had stayed on that train, I might have
been seriously injured.

Could it be that Coco, already a spirit by
then, warned me of the danger?

That thought suddenly crossed my mind. I'm
not the type to believe in the occult.

But as I thought that, looking at Coco's
cold form,

tears spilled from my eyes too. Before I knew
it, I was crying, my voice shaking.

After that, we made a grave for Coco and
placed flowers there.

My sister enlarged a photo of Coco, framed
it, and made it into a memorial portrait.

Then, a year passed since that day. Last
month, my sister married and moved away to
a distant town.

Standing before Coco's grave, I couldn't
help but whisper, “I'm finally all alone.”

Then, tears began to fall freely from my
eyes once more.

Suddenly, from somewhere, I heard Coco's
sleeping breath: “Coco... Coco...”

To me, that sound seemed to say, “I'm
here...”

00:00When I was in middle school, my father brought home a dog. Its eyes were just like a dog's.
00:05It was a cute little dog.
00:06When I hear the sound of breathing while sleeping, it sounds like "kokokoko," so I call it "kokoko."
00:11I attached it.
00:11My sister and I would go for walks in the park and play with this cat.
00:16Even Koko has turned 17 now. Lately, she's become much less active.
00:21A lot has happened since I came here.
00:23My father was ill and his life was long, and two years later, my mother followed him.
00:27He passed away and went to heaven.
00:28And so, it was just my sister and me left, and this is where we feel lonely.
00:33It helped distract me.
00:34One day, I was about to be late for work, so I hurried down the train platform.
00:38I was walking.
00:39I was in a position to catch my usual train, so I hurried and jumped on.
00:42He tried.
00:43Suddenly, I heard the sound of a bird crying.
00:46I stopped and looked around, but of course, there was no way I should be here.
00:51do not have.
00:51While I was wondering if I was imagining things, the train doors closed and it departed.
00:54It happened right after I had done it.
00:56I had no choice but to wait for the next train.
00:58But the train was taking forever to come.
01:00Just now, an accident occurred at a level crossing.
01:04The train will be delayed for a while.
01:05An announcement was made that stated the following.
01:07The passengers nearby were in an uproar, and everyone took out their cell phones.
01:11there was.
01:11Anyway, I was about to be late, so I left the station.
01:15I hailed a taxi and headed to the office.
01:17After arriving safely at the office, I was watching TV during my lunch break when...
01:21They were showing the news about that train accident.
01:23They said there were 25 injured.
01:25My heart pounded. That train was the one I was on at the time.
01:29Because it was a Z train.
01:31I returned home feeling uneasy,
01:33My sister was crying in front of the bed here.
01:36He was lying down, not breathing.
01:39And it had become hard and cold.
01:41I remembered the crying I heard here back then.
01:45If I had stayed on that train, I would have been seriously injured.
01:49Maybe.
01:49This place, which had already become a ghost at that time, was warning me of danger.
01:53I wonder if that's what happened.
01:54That thought suddenly crossed my mind.
01:56I don't believe in the occult,
01:59As I thought about this, looking at Koko's cold body,
02:03Tears started to fall from my eyes as well.
02:05Before I knew it, I was crying, my voice trembling.
02:08Then we built a grave here and offered flowers.
02:12My sister enlarged the photos from here, framed them, and built a house out of them.
02:16They gave it to me.
02:17And now, a year has passed since then.
02:19My sister went with me to a distant town last month.
02:22Standing before this grave, I thought to myself, "I'm finally all alone."
02:26He muttered.
02:27Then, tears started streaming down my face again.
02:31Then, from somewhere, I heard the sound of someone breathing, "kokokokoko."
02:35It has come.
02:35To me, that sound sounded like it was saying, "I'm here."
