00:00One other thing about Louisa Rice, if I may.
00:03Go ahead.
00:04You know how we were just talking about how Pulisic is evolving?
00:09Yes.
00:10I think Louisa Rice is evolving as well.
00:13You think?
00:15Was he this?
00:17And Pasta, would you weigh in on this?
00:19Was he this hot doggy at the beginning?
00:21I don't feel, I feel like his hot dogginess is rising.
00:26On the rise.
00:27It's definitely rising.
00:29Thank you, Dave.
00:31This guy, he's got body parts gyrating everywhere no matter what happens.
00:38You give him a walk and he like does the Macarena on his way to first base.
00:43He's flipping bats.
00:45He's got arms flying everywhere.
00:47Legs are popping up.
00:49He looks like Michael Jackson on his way down to first base.
00:53When he gets a base hit, give me a break.
00:56And when he hit that homer yesterday, like, my God, he's always had flair.
01:02But dude is a full-blown hot dog.
01:06And he was not doing that at the beginning of the year.
01:10By the way, one more thing.
01:11Love it.
01:12Yeah.
01:12Love it.
01:13It's so entertaining.
01:16Maybe it's the Willie Adamas influence.
01:18I mean, his first year with the club, and unless you're hardwired to be that guy,
01:23you probably come in and act a little bit more conservatively.
01:26Like Drew Gilbert gets called up and he's immediately, you know, choking people and like play fighting
01:33with his manager and all the rest of it, because that's who he is.
01:36He's out there gyrating in the outfield.
01:38And, you know, maybe a rise is just getting more comfortable.
01:41And when you're playing this well, you feel free to, you know, let your emotions fly a
01:47little bit.
01:47I guess.
01:48But he's been playing this well the whole year.
01:50Right.
01:50But now you've done it for, you know, three months and you come in and all he hears is
01:55why they sign this guy is OPS is terrible.
01:58He's punching Judy.
01:59He can't play defense.
02:01I'm Mark Randy.
02:01I can't believe they brought this guy in.
02:04I mean, you do have to wear that one a little bit, a little bit, a little bit.
02:09He was not okay.
02:10He has been so much better than I was expecting.
02:14I still stand by my analysis of the player that he was the last couple of years.
02:18If he played, if he was doing what he did last year, this year, then I think I would
02:22be right.
02:22He's just been way, way better than he has been recently, which surprised me.
02:26There it is from Mark Randy.
02:27If this had gone differently, then he would have been right.
02:29I'm going to try that.
02:31I'm still saying I think most people's evaluation of who he was last year, I think, is still
02:35wrong.
02:36This year, though, he's a different player.
02:37I love it, Randy.
02:38I'm going to try this at the sports book next time I go to Vegas.
02:41Hey, you know who Randy is?
02:43What's that?
02:43He's evolving.
02:45He's evolving.
02:47I'm going to try that, though.
02:48Big Bob behind the sports book is like, yeah, you've got the Niners minus three and a half
02:54and they only won by two.
02:55Yeah, but Bob, if they'd kicked another field goal, then I would have been right.
03:00Pay me.
03:03Next level.
03:04Yeah.
03:04Next level.
03:05That would be.
03:06Yeah.
03:06I'm going to try that.
03:07Thank you, Randy.
03:07You couldn't have possibly predicted he would become the best defensive second baseman in
03:12baseball after not even playing second base for two years.
03:15I'm not asking you to predict anything, but I do know some people who were not so dismissive
03:20of the signing.
03:21I do know some people.
03:23I loved it.
03:24I know you did.
03:25I'm an old guy.
03:25So did I.
03:26I love a guy who gets base hits.
03:29Right.
03:29And even if you look at his full career as a Rook, he had an OPS of 838.
03:34And in 2023, his OPS was 862 with 10 home runs.
03:39He's a legit great hitter.
03:40And, uh, Grandy's not wrong to be surprised at the way he's fielded the ball.
03:46He's also hitting better than he has the last couple of years.
03:48That's fair.
03:49Uh, maybe he just needed somebody to give him a hug.
03:53Not really.
03:54Like, the Giants were the only team that believed in him.
03:58They went, yes.
04:00Yes.
04:01You can play second base.
04:03And maybe that belief and positivity and Ron Washington and all of these things allowed
04:11him to come in and be the best version of himself.
04:13Plus, as he arrives, it's a bunch of naysayers.
04:18And sometimes that gets under people's skin, too.
04:21And they get a little, uh, boo-shoe and, uh, watch this.
04:26And maybe that happened.
04:29And now, now he's been so consistent that the guy is literally dancing wherever he goes
04:34on the baseball field.
04:35Yeah.
04:36And it's really fun.
04:38And so there's a piece of my point in that, too.
04:40Like, I know that trading Louisa Rice is probably the right thing to do.
04:46But then again, hold on a second.
04:50Like, I really like this guy.
04:52You really like him.
04:54So.
04:55And by the way, Oracle Park.
04:58Kind of perfect for him.
05:00Yeah.
05:01Big gaps.
05:02Gap to gap line drive hitter.
05:05I don't know, man.
05:06He's got six triples this year.
05:08I'm just trying to, like, think about this with a little bit more of an open mind.
05:12I think we've traded Louisa Rice and Robbie Ray so quickly.
05:16And I get it.
05:17And it's probably the right thing to do.
05:18And it probably will happen.
05:21But can we, can we just pause for a moment and talk about it?
05:25Is there a different player that you could trade?
05:28And therefore, it opens the whole thing up.
05:31And you just go to Louisa Rice and say, how about a four-year deal right now?
05:36Right now.
05:37Right now.
05:37And by the way, you probably get a discount.
05:40Because you take all of the unknown out of play.
05:44You don't have to worry about injury for the second half of the year.
05:47You don't have to worry about, I don't know where, you know,
05:50is there another team that's going to let me play second base?
05:52We don't know these things in free agency.
05:55He might say yes.
05:57And maybe you want that.
05:5929-year-old, all-star-level batting title extraordinaire.
06:03Right.
06:03Who's evolving.
06:05He is.
06:05And there's really no rush for either thing.
06:08You've got six weeks as of this coming Monday until the deadline.
06:11And just looking at their schedule, they play game number 113 the day before.
06:17Really 112, because that rain out from today will be moved after that.
06:21But you'll have 112 down and 50 to go when the deadline hits.
06:25So if you decide on that day, August 3rd is the deadline.
06:29If you decide you don't want to trade him, well, then you can start thinking about an extension and making
06:35that move.
06:35I do think that between now and next April, you've got to free up a spot for Casey Schmidt,
06:41assuming he continues to be this good.
06:44And it would be nice to free up a spot for Eldridge, Vice Eldridge, but that's less of an emergency
06:49because you can do the DH first base thing.
06:52And it seems to be working this year.
06:54But I do think the Ramos-Schmidt-Arise triad, you're going to have to figure out a way to free
07:01up a spot for Casey Schmidt on the regular.
07:03For sure.
07:04For sure.
07:05No, he probably needs to get into the infield.
07:08And that might be the easiest way to do it.
07:11So I understand that.
07:13I am interested to see him in right field, though, because Casey has a good arm.
07:17And the arm will play in right field.
07:19I don't know if the glove and the range will, but the arm will play.
07:23Asking Casey Schmidt to cover right center field.
07:27It's a big ask.
07:28I mean, he can run.
07:30He's not slow.
07:31He's not slow, and he's got a good arm.
07:33So it's not wild.
07:35But, I mean, I don't know.
07:37What are we doing next week?
07:38Is he catching?
07:39Right.
07:40This guy's played everywhere.
07:41He's played all four infield spots.
07:44He's now played left field.
07:45We're going to go right field next.
07:47It's clunky, that's all.
07:48So, yeah, trading Luis to rise might be the easiest, quickest, most painless way to do all of this.
07:58But it doesn't have to be.
08:00And that ESPN top 100 thing about the most likely guys to get traded arises number one on the Giants
08:09and in the top 15.
08:10But at number 20, right behind, was Matt Chapman.
08:13Right.
08:13You could do that, too.
08:15And just put Casey at third.
08:16That's his natural position, by the way.
08:18Exactly.
08:19And that would take Chapman to waive the no trade.
08:22And who knows if he will?
08:23Apparently, he says that they haven't had that conversation.
08:26But word may have gotten to the Giants through his agent.
08:29Who knows?
08:30We still have, as I mentioned, six weeks and four days until the deadline.
08:34So, all these things have no real urgency until you get closer to the deadline.
08:40And, you know, I mentioned 112 games you will have played.
08:43And right now you've played 74.
08:45So, that is 38 more games.
08:48You're going to play 38 more games until the deadline.
08:52And you're 12 below.
08:53Let's say you go 24 and 14.
08:56And so, now, you're 55 and 57.
08:59Yeah.
09:00I mean, unlikely.
09:01I'm just saying.
09:01Very unlikely.
09:02But sure.
09:0224 and 14 is not, like, I'm not saying it's crazy.
09:06No.
09:06It's not crazy.
09:07But if they do that, and now you're sitting two games below 500, and you're probably four
09:11out of the wild card, and in the middle of the pack, it might change the conversation.
09:16It absolutely might change the conversation.
09:18And I don't know if necessarily in a good way.
09:20Because that's putting the Giants back in that spot that they've been in the past, where
09:25they sort of feel like they might be contenders, and their fans think, no, you're not.
09:31And then you make moves, and then off you go into the second half, and you go nowhere, and
09:36you didn't maximize your roster.
09:38So, that seems unlikely to me.
09:40I don't think that the Giants, I know that they've said, we're not sellers yet, but we're
09:45certainly heading down that track.
09:47And I think that that's probably the prudent thing to do this season.
09:51I just, I'm not convinced yet on what the right sell is.
09:55You can sell, but who?
09:58And I could be sold on the idea of a trade that involves Chapman, or Ramos, or, you know,
10:10and then...
10:10Instead of a rise.
10:11And an extension to a rise.
10:13Right.
10:14I could be sold on it.
10:15I don't think it's likely.
10:17I'm not saying it's the right thing to do, but I would, I'd love to explore as another
10:2320 to 25 games at least play out, you know?
10:27It certainly is the prudent thing to do, and again, not getting crazy with the 24 and 14
10:33thought, but just looking at the sketch between now and the deadline, you've got seven against
10:39Colorado and a series against the Angels.
10:41It doesn't mean that you're going to beat bad teams, but 10 of your 38 are against the
10:46crap, the bottom of the absolute barrel.
10:48Yeah.
10:49I mean...
10:50Just saying.
10:50I know, but we noticed this earlier in the year, and it's probably another good day to
10:54bring it up after yesterday.
10:56When the Giants are going against a good team, that doesn't seem to really change much.
11:01Like, I...
11:01They play just as good against the good teams as they do against the bad, or you could say
11:05they play just as bad against the bad teams as they do against the good.
11:09But that's all I...
11:10You know, they've got a winning record against the Dodgers, and they're now 2-0 against the
11:16Braves.
11:170-6 against Arizona.
11:19Yep.
11:190-3 against the Yankees.
11:200-3 against Tampa.
11:22Yeah, the Yankees, that was the first three games of the year, but yeah.
11:24I'm still...
11:25Yeah, yeah.
11:26But to your point, a 1-3 against the Mets, and they're not great.
11:301-2 against the Rockies, and they're absolutely terrible.
11:33That one's painful.
11:34Right.
11:35That series was painful.
11:36It hasn't really mattered the quality of their opponent, because their play has been
11:41usually not good enough.
11:42Will and Moran.
11:43Hi, Will.
11:44Thank you for calling.
11:45What's up?
11:47Well, thanks for taking my call, guys.
11:48Yeah, just to talk about a few Giants-related things.
11:51So, when I was younger, my mom took me and my best friend to go see Jason Schmidt play,
11:56and it was a rainy day, and unfortunately, they had to put the tarp on, and they sent us home.
12:00But the good thing was, is they doubled it up with that makeup game and a night game about
12:06an hour later with fireworks.
12:07So, I don't know if they do that now, but they really hooked us up with that.
12:13I'm with you, Willard.
12:14I'm not really married with anything about this team except for Bryce Eldridge.
12:18And one of the reasons why was, it kind of made me more of a believer on how he wanted
12:23to be the face of the franchise.
12:24There was a video of him working with Ron Washington, and after every piece of advice
12:32that he was given or taken, it was always, yes, sir, thank you, sir, yes, no problem,
12:38sir.
12:38And just the way that he carried himself, like he had no problem taking the constructive
12:42criticism.
12:42He had no problem with understanding that he was flawed in certain areas.
12:46And just to see him working towards that to get better at the little things, like, that's
12:50amazing.
12:50Like, obviously, the power's there.
12:51You know, you've been money on it.
12:53He's been absolutely amazing at, you know, taking control of that bat, and at such a young
12:57age, he's very mature.
12:58But to also see that he's willing to put the work in to be a special player, I think that
13:03that's amazing.
13:04And as for Grandy, I'm going to take that straight to the bank as well.
13:07I'm going to go to my boss at the end of this week when I get my paycheck and tell
13:11him,
13:12hey, you know, you're a little short on my check.
13:13And he's going to ask me why.
13:14And I'm going to say, hey, look, if I worked a few more hours of overtime, I'd have had
13:18more money.
13:18So pay me.
13:19Thanks, guys.
13:19Have a great day.
13:20Well done, Will.
13:21Appreciate it.
13:22It's an if-then proposition.
13:24Yeah.
13:25Great.
13:25No, Grandy, you've changed people's lives today.
13:27I really want to congratulate you.
13:29Yeah, it's a big deal.
13:30It's a big deal.
13:31So now, so going forward, whenever something doesn't go your way, you just tell whoever you're
13:37talking to, hey, if this had been different, then it would go my way.
13:41Or if you're in a fight with someone and you feel like they've kind of got you pinned,
13:47like they're right and you're wrong, you could say, right, you're right now.
13:51But if it were different, what we were talking about, then I would be right.
13:56And then just see what happens.
13:57You might freeze them.
13:58I don't know.
13:59If I wasn't such a jerk, then, you know, we wouldn't be in this fight.
14:02Right.
14:03You know?
14:03How about that?
14:04If you go back to the thing that you think I was wrong about, and if I didn't do it,
14:09then I would have been right.
14:10Huh?
14:11So put that in your pipe and smoke it.
14:13Come on.
14:14I was wrong.
14:16Oh.
14:17Huh.
14:17Oh.
14:18Huh.
14:19Uh-huh.
14:20Okay.
14:21Well, here's another one you can use.
14:23Because we talked about Rookie of the Year yesterday and the odds.
14:27Did they change?
14:30Here's another one you can use.
14:31We talked about this yesterday.
14:33Rookie of the Year.
14:34Fan duel.
14:35Bryce Eldridge yesterday was plus 850, which means you bet 100, you win 850, if and when
14:42he becomes Rookie of the Year.
14:44And now it's at plus 600.
14:47So you can go to the people and say, if I would have gotten on it yesterday, I would have
14:52gotten
14:52an 850.
14:52I was so busy yesterday, and I wanted to do your calci thing, and I told you to calci for
14:59me, and you wouldn't do it.
15:00I calcied for myself.
15:01I know.
15:02And then I'm like, driving home, or actually, were we still here?
15:08Were we on the air?
15:08We were.
15:09And he homered.
15:10He homered it.
15:11And I'm like, ah, crap.
15:13There go my odds.
15:15They moved that much?
15:17This is the fan duel, but yes.
15:18What's the calci move?
15:20I'm looking right now.
15:21Ooh, stock up on my trade.
15:24The current value is greater than my cost yesterday.
15:28So it's gone up about 3%.
15:33Only 3%?
15:34But, I mean, it...
15:35What was it at when you bought it?
15:37It was at 26%, I think.
15:42And now it's at 29?
15:42It was at 23, and it's up to 26%.
15:45Okay, so there's still time to make a buttload of money.
15:47Plenty of time, yeah.
15:49Plenty of time.
15:49If I'm correct, I will recoup about six times my investment.
15:56Or I can cash out now and get about 3% on my investment.
15:59So we're going to let it ride a little longer.
16:00Let it ride.
16:01Yep.
16:03The one I'm probably going to sell is...
16:04Will you text me tonight, please?
16:06Yes.
16:06Because I have the biggest problem.
16:08Do you have this problem?
16:09I don't know.
16:11I don't think it's an age thing, because it's only a certain time of day.
16:14I get very tired.
16:16I'm a morning person.
16:17Yep.
16:17I don't like the night.
16:19But I really don't.
16:22And when I'll...
16:23Like, we'll get done with everything.
16:25We'll cook people dinner, and then we kick them into their bedroom, and we go,
16:29go to bed.
16:30And then they go to bed.
16:31And then I look over at my laptop, and I go, yeah.
16:35It's finally time to get to all of those things that I needed to do today online.
16:41And I can't remember what the hell any of them were.
16:45I have no clue what it was I needed to get done.
16:49So then I end up just laying down in bed, and I'll watch a daily show or something for
16:53about eight minutes, pass out, wake up the next day, and I'm like, oh, that's the six
16:59things I needed to do.
17:00But I can't do them right now, because I got to get the kid to camp.
17:04Right.
17:04Or do whatever the hell we're all doing.
17:06Walk the dog.
17:06All that stuff.
17:07Walk the dog.
17:07And then we come here, and we do the show, and then we go home and dinner and rinse repeat.
17:12Yep.
17:12And we're going to get to 830 tonight, and I'm going to go, all right.
17:17Game time.
17:18Calci.
17:18And I'm going to go, what the hell was it that I wanted to do?
17:21Will you please send me a text?
17:23I will try, and to remember, I kind of have the same thing as you, where-
17:27Dang, it's really frustrating.
17:28Yeah, with your new phone, you can set a reminder.
17:30You could just-
17:31I know that there's ways around this, dibs.
17:33Right.
17:34And I'd like you to, I don't want to be your enabler.
17:37We're frazzled.
17:39I can't-
17:39Can you help me fix my phone?
17:41I'd like you to, like, take steps forward and evolve.
17:45I'd like you to evolve and set a reminder or write something down.
17:49But the problem is, is I, like, I would need to do that right now, and I'm talking to you.
17:55Right.
17:56Like, that's big.
17:57I'll set an alarm.
17:58I've done that a bunch of times, too.
18:00I'm proud.
18:01Set the alarm for 9 o'clock tonight.
18:02And then the alarm goes off, and I go, I don't even know what the hell I set the alarm
18:06for.
18:06I don't know what, I don't know why I'm doing that.
18:09Yeah, that's really, that causes a lot of anxiety.
18:12Yeah, frustration.
18:12Because you're like, you set the alarm, so it's really important.
18:16And then you get there, and you don't know what it's for.
18:19And now I know that I'm missing something important.
18:22Right, because you set an alarm.
18:24It's that important.
18:25The good news is, Bryce Eldridge's percent chance to win Rookie of the Year on Cal She probably won't move
18:31today,
18:32because they're not playing.
18:33Unless one of these other Sal Stewards goes off, then-
18:36That'd be great.
18:37That would be great.
18:38That'd be great.
18:38What if he goes on for four or three strikeouts?
18:41Then, I mean, that might hurt you.
18:42Yeah.
18:43I'll try to remember to text you.
18:44I appreciate it.
18:45You got a lot going on, though.
