00:00now there was a second game on the weekend as well on sunday between the allies and vic country
00:05vic country coming away with the win uh ethan drevers another one we'll touch on in a moment
00:09but he was yeah arguably vic country's best and he could have had a much bigger day if he uh
00:13capitalized on some big moments early and shots on goal but um his run his burst through the middle
00:19what we've seen with with gbv this year was again on show for for uh vic country so that was
00:24a big
00:24tick absolutely another one i want to touch on is jackson phillips so i didn't have a touch in the
00:28first quarter played on a wing and then got opportunity in the midfield through injuries
00:33to cody walker and noah williams who didn't play out the game when he went into the midfield
00:38he looks like a different player i thought with his ability to be really clean around the contest
00:43and kicked a couple of really really classy goals a couple of the better goals on the day so i
00:47think
00:47that really emphasizes that he has got that natural midfield ability he's shown it at dandy on stingray's
00:52level they've tried him on the wing as well uh but really impressive for him to step up and continue
00:57to
00:58show what he can do and what's been an impressive year so far yeah it was a good uh connection
01:03between the two front thirds for vic country i thought um obviously they had some of the tools
01:07leading the way will malady being one of them and jet alec was was quite strong early but gee keenan
01:12boy
01:12is is the exact type of player you want with the hands in his footy if you are a leading
01:16key four with
01:17some of his delivery inside and um obviously able to force turnover and and that really helps key
01:22forwards in their leading patterns and opening up the game in the front half so keenan boy was certainly
01:27one of the standards for big country as well with uh his creativity obviously his mixture of speed
01:31and sizes we talked about anthony long before as well it's it's very similar in in how those two go
01:36about their business so he's one that you've loved obviously uh across his course of his season with
01:41with gippsland and um him and marlon yokeless were again just um absolutely lively as a pairing yeah for
01:48sure those high forwards were were really good one i want to touch on is tanner armstrong uh played off
01:53half back so he's played a lot through the midfield this year including for the afl academy but was
01:57put back to a half back line which is where he played for the murray bush rangers last year and
02:03i
02:03thought his game was actually quite strong his efforts were really really good and he was one of
02:09the country's designated kickers alongside will antrobus um out of the back line and his kicking has
02:16been an area that he's been challenged on i thought he hit some kicks at important times it's probably still
02:20a little bit inconsistent but some of his one-on-one work um was really good and he fought out
02:24the game
02:25really strongly finished with i think the 29 touches so i think it was a positive step forward richmond
02:30fans are really really high on him and he's probably um starting to show some really really good glimpses
02:37but yeah needs to keep it up for for the rest of the champs and continue on that upwards trajectory
02:42if
02:42he is to have his name called out on draft night now you mentioned a couple injuries earlier so cody
02:46walker no williams um unable to finish out or certainly had some of those battles do you have
02:51the latest on on what happened with those two and where things might be because we we do know the
02:55vic
02:55country have a bit of a break before the next game at the very least yeah they do so noah
02:59williams
03:00won't play this week um that's certain and he will uh but it is viewed as a minor injury at
03:10this point
03:10with more to be known um i think by the end of the week um and matthew owen is a
03:16dislocated shoulder
03:17so he's out for the rest of the under 18s national championships unfortunately uh so yeah it's
03:24unfortunate under 16s all australian he was so yeah actually someone that's reasonably highly rated
03:28although he's pretty unheralded um cody walker um yeah still awaiting the latest more will be known
03:33later in the week okay so there you go well hopefully as we mentioned there's a bit of a break
03:36for
03:36for vic country that as a that side of the squad they hopefully won't be missing too many games
03:42but obviously from a talent league or vfl point of view there might be a bit of an absence for
03:46cody
03:46walker um from the allies uh i know we'll again either matthews is one we're going to speak on in
03:52a
03:52little bit but just to highlight his game god it was one of the more dominant ones i've seen from
03:57our champs in recent memory when you even just breaking down some of his numbers because i thought
04:01his work rate was was really good and he seemed to cover the ground really well but when you have
04:0411
04:04clearances and doing it at the source but then you're also coming away with 20 uncontested touches
04:08to try and find that space yourself get into positions get away from your opponent and then
04:13obviously his ball use was has been quite clean too so i thought um yeah we kind of came to
04:18see where
04:19he would take his game at the champs obviously with the form he's had in the talent league for the
04:22gws
04:23academy and um that was a very very good start yeah it was um yeah gws i've got one that's
04:30yeah bolting
04:31into top 10 contention now off the back of that um some others i think caleb murray's one that we
04:36probably haven't necessarily spoken about a whole heap but it sounds like there's a view that he's
04:40in first round contention with his electrifying speed um had a chat to jason akamanis zero hang his
04:46own jason akamanis who is part of the brisbane academy coaching squad and he said he'd love to
04:51have three of him because of how um how adept he is across all different parts of the ground and
04:56i thought
04:57he showed some real promise and henry meany in the midfield was another one who fought hard against
05:03a strong engine room for for the country we mentioned some of the targets for for the country
05:08earlier and ben picking natalie for their uh for the allies at the other end 191 centimeters but just
05:13seemed like he was playing so much taller with these uh with his aerial uh efforts and and marking
05:18and obviously being able to be clinical in front of goals just as important so yeah big tick for him
05:22um and as you mentioned yeah meaning another one um from that academy and guy jenkins who was
05:28was very impressive so flying under the radar a little bit the swans academy they've actually got
05:32some reasonable prospects so yeah worth just noting that yeah there's obviously they've had a what an
05:38undefeated talent league run but um from from a putting on the map perspective this is this is the
05:43next few weeks is really where we get to to learn where this group's at given they have that different
05:47fixture if you want to call it for the talent league so really excited mcgrote is another one who
05:52um is in that mix that we that we didn't see on the weekend too so plenty to like about
05:56the allies
