Find out who Jon Jansen ranks as the top team in the NFL after the draft.
Transcript
00:00We do it once a week in season, but it's the offseason, and we have a post-draft power surge.
00:06John?
00:08This one is interesting because obviously we have a free agency.
00:14Players have moved around.
00:15We've got the draft.
00:17So you've added some what you think is talent, but we have no idea who the busts are going to
00:24be,
00:24who the hidden gems are going to be.
00:26And I'm going to start with the teams that I have outside of my top six,
00:32and I might give you a little bit of a reason why they could, within week one or two, bump
00:38up into that top six.
00:40And this was much more difficult of an exercise than I thought it was going to be.
00:45So all the teams in the NFC North are outside the top six.
00:52Including the Detroit Lions.
00:54Including the Detroit Lions.
00:55And so let me start with Minnesota.
00:58The big question is going to be Kyler Murray.
01:00What do we think that addition is going to be in terms of how much better they're going to be?
01:08I mean, it's a huge shoulder shrug because we don't know Kyler Murray.
01:13Like it's kind of their first round draft pick, Kayla Banks.
01:17If he hits, could be a huge addition for this defense.
01:21They need him to hit.
01:22They're replacing Javon Hargrave.
01:25Yep.
01:25And so it's going to be really interesting.
01:28Obviously, their linebacker, Jack Golday, you know, that they got in the draft as well.
01:33I think they've done some things to help the defense.
01:37But offensively, it's really going to be Kyler Murray.
01:39Can he complete touchdown passes?
01:42They didn't have many last year.
01:43It's a key.
01:44It's the biggest, most important position on the team.
01:46And I think he's a talent upgrade, but you're right around him.
01:49Yeah, I don't know.
01:50Green Bay.
01:51The question is going to be when is Micah Parsons back?
01:53They lost Rasheed Walker on the offensive line.
01:56They didn't do a lot to add to that offensive line.
01:58So and I'm looking at it going.
02:00I just don't believe that they're going to take a huge step forward.
02:04So they're out.
02:06And then who else?
02:07We get Chicago.
02:08I don't think they did.
02:11I mean, first of all, they lost a receiver or DJ more traded him.
02:14But they didn't do enough in the front seven defensively for me to look at it and go,
02:22OK, yeah, they're now Caleb Williams going to be a little bit better going on year three.
02:27They've got maybe the best group of tight ends in all of the NFL.
02:34But defensively, if you can't apply pressure to quarterbacks, if you struggle to stop the run,
02:41you're going to struggle as a team.
02:43So that's where I've got them.
02:45Detroit.
02:46OK, they address the key positions.
02:48We'll talk more about these guys as we continue to go.
02:51But I love the fact that they remade the offensive line and they're just outside my power surge.
02:58But I've got to see it to believe it.
03:00And defensively, OK, I like, you know, Derek Moore.
03:03I like the additions that they had on defense.
03:05But I worry about depth and the question mark of who's going to be playing safety at the beginning of
03:10the year.
03:11That's going to be the question marks.
03:13And they have, I think, the best chance to move up into the power surge through weeks one and two.
03:19Other teams that I have outside the top six, Kansas City.
03:24Sure.
03:25OK, no Patrick Mahomes probably to start the season.
03:28They did add Kenneth Walker.
03:29I don't think they address the offensive line as they needed to.
03:34And obviously, Justin Fields is the quarterback that they brought in to stem the tide.
03:37It may be a resurgence and a way to salvage his career.
03:41See how he does early in the season.
03:44But a lot's going to be riding on Patrick Mahomes.
03:47Like the fact that they gave him a running game.
03:51Jacksonville is outside my top six.
03:54And everybody says, well, OK, maybe they shouldn't be in there.
03:57I like the Travis Hunter being back healthy and then focusing only on one side of the ball.
04:04I think that's going to be a big boost for him.
04:06San Francisco.
04:07The question is about health.
04:10Offensive line.
04:11Well, Trent Williams.
04:13Where's his focus?
04:15You know, he's long of the tooth.
04:17Still really good.
04:18But can he remain healthy for 17 games?
04:20When is Kittle going to be back?
04:22All of these different questions.
04:23New England outside.
04:25Philly outside.
04:26And some of it is.
04:28Does A.J. Brown actually end up in New England?
04:31We've had some whispers and reporting that that happens.
04:35But that reporting has gone silent.
04:37So I'm not sure what's going on there.
04:39Mekhi Lemon.
04:41What can you expect out of a rookie receiver for this Philly team?
04:46And is the offensive line going to remain healthy?
04:49They're kind of where the Lions were about a year and a half ago.
04:55Where if they're healthy, sure, they'll top three offensive line.
04:59But they struggled to remain healthy last year.
05:01I'm trying to think if I left anybody out here.
05:03I don't think I did.
05:04I'm sure there's somebody I left out that somebody wants to talk about.
05:07Indianapolis is going to be kind of interesting to see where they are.
05:10But the top six.
05:12Okay.
05:12And I have one that I know, if I don't get three raised eyebrows from Greg, Gov, and you.
05:22Okay.
05:22Because I love their draft.
05:24They've remade one side of the ball.
05:25I'll get to them.
05:26They're at my number five.
05:27But right now, the L.A. Chargers.
05:28And this could just be health in terms of Rashawn Slater, Joe Alt.
05:32They've remade the center of that offensive line.
05:35They brought in Tyler Biotic.
05:36That is, to me, what this team was lacking.
05:41And now, they've given their quarterback the protection if they could stay healthy.
05:48Defensively, I think they're going to be really good.
05:52They're going to be solid.
05:53They've added Akeem Mesidor, Delvin Tomlinson.
06:00So, let's see what they are defensively.
06:04But I do think that they're going to be a team that's going to start in the top six.
06:08Number five.
06:09I told you.
06:09Get your eyeballs ready.
06:11The Dallas Cowboys.
06:13You know what?
06:14I'm not mad at this.
06:15And I don't know what happens in the NFC East.
06:19I don't think the Giants, even though they've stacked edge rushers and they've now got a
06:25Harbaugh calling things, I think they're still a year or two away.
06:28But this division is going to be very interesting.
06:33Philly with Jalen Hurts is a Super Bowl winning quarterback, but there's discussion that he's
06:39not the guy in Philly.
06:41What's the deal?
06:42There was a brokenness to their offense.
06:44And is it just simply, hey, let's get rid of A.J.
06:46Brown.
06:47And then all things are fixed because of the drama.
06:50I don't know.
06:52Saquon's a year older.
06:53They need to make sure that offensive line's moving.
06:55Yeah.
06:55But with Dallas, with really, I thought their draft may have been the best draft.
07:02Caleb Downs falls to them.
07:03They trade up for them.
07:04It's, I think they did a tremendous job.
07:06So they're at number five.
07:09Number four, the Denver Broncos.
07:12And Denver, I think, might actually be the most talented roster in all of the NFL.
07:19Defensively, they are, hey, they get down and dirty.
07:22They get after the quarterback.
07:23They didn't lose anything there.
07:24I know they lost a couple of linebackers, but they've replaced them.
07:27And the big addition for them is Jalen Waddell.
07:30Yes.
07:30Which helps a young quarterback in Bo Nix.
07:33If he was healthy, they're in the Super Bowl.
07:35Right.
07:36Exactly.
07:37The Buffalo Bills are at number three.
07:40And some of this is Josh Allen, the addition of DJ Moore.
07:45But they went hard on defensive side of things.
07:49They've tried to remake that defense.
07:51And I think that they've done enough.
07:55Joey Bosa, no longer there.
07:57He's not anywhere right now.
07:58But Edge, TJ Parker, Bradley Chubb.
08:02Yep.
08:02CJ Gardner-Johnson on the back end.
08:05Now, he may not be in his prime anymore, but he's still, I think, an upgrade for them.
08:09And so I've got them at number three.
08:11Number two.
08:13And there's a little bit of a debate between one and two, but I'm going to go with the Seattle
08:17Seahawks.
08:18They lost Kenneth Walker.
08:20They lost Rick Wollin.
08:23Other than that, I'm not really concerned about some of their losses.
08:26They added, obviously, the last pick of the first round.
08:28Everybody kind of raised an eyebrow and running back from Notre Dame, Jadarian Price.
08:32But they also know Sam Darnold needs a rushing attack.
08:36Sam Darnold is a Super Bowl winning quarterback, but there is a certain, a very specific recipe for him to
08:43be successful.
08:44They will continue to protect him.
08:46They'll give him that rushing attack.
08:47They've got plenty of receivers to throw the ball to.
08:50And defensively, this is where this team excels.
08:53I think they're still going to be one of the top two defenses in the NFL.
08:57The number one team going into next year, and you're sitting there going, well, okay, they took a quarterback in
09:02the first round.
09:03How could they possibly be in the number one seat?
09:06They have added Trent McDuffie, Jalen Watson as cornerbacks.
09:11Those are the two big additions.
09:14They lost Havenstein, their tackle, but I didn't think much of him to begin with.
09:20So insert plug just about anybody else in there.
09:23Give them a warm body.
09:25I think they are absolutely loaded.
09:27Puka Nakua, question mark is, okay, how's rehab going to go?
09:32Fonty Adams a year older.
09:33Right.
09:34I think this is the year for them to make that last push with Matthew Stafford, which raised the eyebrow
09:40of why they go quarterback.
09:42I don't think they helped themselves in the draft, but I think they did such a good job in free
09:45agency to address the secondary because it's the two corners plus Cam Curl at safety.
09:49I have no issue putting the Rams as the number one team right now on April 29th.
09:55Okay.
09:55I'm glad you didn't raise too much of an eyebrow.
09:58I have the Cowboys on my little cheat sheet here because I thought they had a great draft, and you
10:03didn't even highlight Rashawn Gary, who they added as well this offseason.
10:07They need to fix their defense.
10:08Everybody knows they've got Lamb and Pickens and Dak, and they can sling it.
10:11Oh, and Jay Sean Barham.
10:13Yeah, throw Barham into the defense too, John.
10:16Sure, I'll throw you a bone.
10:17I like him too as an NFL player.
10:19Yeah, I have no issue throwing the Cowboys a bone.
10:21I would also like to make a quick note on the Baltimore Ravens, who obviously lost Tyler Linderbaum, but got
10:26a plug and play guy in the interior of the draft.
10:29After the interior of the line, they had Trey Hendrickson, Zion Young to help their pass rush.
10:33And I like coming out of the draft, Ja'Cory Lane and Elijah Surratt, two good receivers.
10:39One could hit and give Lamar an extra piece.
10:41Yeah, and Baltimore is one of those teams I had written down in small print, but they're right there.
10:46And on the heels of a season where they underperformed, could Jesse Minter breathe life into that defense, breathe life,
10:53a little fresh blood?
10:54We'll see.
10:56Obviously, the Lions aren't in there.
10:57We'll talk more about them coming up next.
10:59It's 97.1.
