00:00i think the real positive as well was that we did get a second vic metro versus vic country trial
00:04so
00:04we know that's been a talking point for many years that vic country and vic metro they play the trial
00:09in about april and that gives us an indication of who might make the squad and that helps with the
00:14finalization of the squad but then you have players go and play schoolboy footy and then
00:18they're going international champs off the back playing schoolboy footy where south australia
00:22have multiple games where they can get their selves tuned up and wa obviously have the six
00:26games they do it really well so it's good that victoria have taken this approach there are
00:30plenty of players to stand out and get something out of the game as well yeah perfect timing to find
00:34some of your best form heading into the national champs which get underway on saturday wa versus
00:38sa uh two states have already previewed um and the two i guess sides we're looking at on today's
00:45episode we'll both meet on sunday in blacktown allies and vic country we might start with the vicks
00:50who as you mentioned had a trial game against vic metro and um it was quite a nice trial game
00:56for
00:56them to as that dress rehearsal yeah i think it was i think the thing that really stood out to
01:00me
01:01from a vic country point of view was their marking inside 50. i think coming into the national champs
01:06there's probably some question marks around how many proven forwards they've got up there but um
01:11yeah plenty of players really made themselves or made the day one that they were able to really press
01:17their cases for selection so jet elect from the geelong falcons one of those he took plenty of marks
01:22inside 50 really competitive set shot goal kicking at times letting down but that's okay he's building
01:26really nicely there were some talks that he might even get some mid-season draft interest but it's
01:30a bit of a slower burn for him he's an overager and will be one to keep an eye on
01:34jackson o'brien
01:35as a ruck forward when he went forward he looked really dangerous and then the gippsland pair will
01:39milady we know how good he is overhead and he showed that and his pressure particularly in the first
01:43half and xavier ladbrook maybe a little bit quieter but it was good to see him and attack got high
01:47up the ground i think we expect him to play there at the under 18s national championships and um yeah
01:53showed a little bit we know he's probably more natural position his defense but um he provides
01:57presence which is what the country really need yeah well there you go he's going to be quite the
02:02asset for him given his versatility you mentioned the players in form they're of tall targets so
02:05they're going to have plenty to pick from and then you talk about at the other end of the ground
02:09yeah he might be able to play up as a forward because they've got such a reliable asset in
02:13his gippsland teammate clancy snell is going to be um you know one of the leading names in their
02:17campaign and in their push so as you mentioned the probably the tip the spear tip was always going to
02:22be uh one with some questions and if if they find the right form and they've got that reliable defense
02:27it's it could come down to what happens in the middle of the ground where they're looking quite
02:31stacked as well yeah i think so i think clancy snell versus jake miller was a really good battle again

02:36sunday uh we saw it five or six weeks ago in that first trial game they're on each other for
02:40about a half so
02:41jake miller obviously being one of the leading prospects for next year and firmly on tazzy's
02:45radar clancy got the better of him six weeks ago but jake miller comprehensively got the better of
02:50him this time around the bigger ground really working to jake miller's advantage with his
02:53running power coming to the fore and his strong hands only kicked a couple of goals i think but
02:57it was more so what he was able to do in setting teammates up and getting involved with scoring chains
03:03so yeah i'd say jake miller and lockie burrows probably the two standouts overall of the day lockie
03:09burrows recast as a defender only found out about 90 hours out from the game that he'll be playing
03:14in defense a position he's never played before and um yeah showed great speed and creativity
03:18broke the lines and yeah it looks to be a real surprise pack at the sandy dragon yeah he's moved
03:23there it looks like it could free up no williams to play more of that permanent midfield role like we
03:28obviously seen him flourish off halfback bottom major and then times through this year and then
03:32obviously playing a lot through midfield and that midfield group for vic country i think
03:36you add him alongside cody walker and ethan draver if if that's the midfield mix you want to go with
03:41there what three names in your top 10 prospects uh obviously they've got a few others that'll bat
03:46into that marlon yorklis might roll through jackson phillips another one um so the midfield mix for
03:51for vic country is another line that's certainly looking promising yeah it is um ethan draver was really
03:56good him going up against gus tesheira um throughout the day uh not necessarily a direct matchup but just
04:01sort of tracking both of those boys in unison really interesting obviously a couple of the real bolters of the
04:05early part of the year and both showed why they've been given that sort of status um and yeah i
04:11guess
04:12i guess will antrobus continues to enhance his stocks um yeah he's clinking out of defense really
04:16really important i talk about lockie burrows on the vic metro side of things well on the vic country
04:21side of things i think will antrobus is um a similar surprise packet sorry i did get those around the
04:26wrong way with burrows and antrobus being the one uh one up front as well archie elliott being one of
04:30the
04:31former players of the talent league two for gwv with well marlon yorklis is going to bring a lot
04:36of excitement i think this guy could look to match those levels with his high flying and clean goal
04:40kicking and his eye for goal yeah i think so he provided the highlight of the day sat on some
04:45shoulders i think he um yes people were watching he came from about 15 meters away and took um
04:50clearly mark of the day mark of the week um really really good so yeah good goal sense and um
04:55yeah you
04:56add those two together and keenan boy from gippsland as well hawthorn nga prospect so yeah
05:02they've certainly got some real liveliness in that front half of the ground so they will play the
05:07allies on sunday in their opener the second game doesn't come till the third of july so they've got
05:11a little bit of a break similar to what i think vic metro had a similar um break in theirs
05:16last year
05:16so uh they'll play wa in early july uh before their their final two games as well and as we
05:23mentioned
05:23the the anyone else from the trials that you want to kind of highlight maybe on the vic metro's side
05:27as well while we kind of go over the uh that last kind of dress rehearsal for both sides yeah
05:31i think
05:31the last one worth touching on is harvey cook stood up with the game on the line kicked three goals
05:35in
05:35the last quarter game was tight he kicked three goals vic metro ended up winning by that margin so
05:40yeah really impressive and as we've talked about before there's a real spot in that forward line for
05:46someone from vic metro to try and take with both hands with obviously carlo del suki's injury i'm very high
05:51george dimer clearly um great work rate and energy and clean hands um but yeah if you have him and
05:56harvey
05:57cook in there i think that could be a real dangerous couple of assets for vic metro and we know
06:02that
06:02harvey cook's got the ability to spread through the midfield we've seen it for the northern knights
06:06throughout the year and he plays with great aggression and tenacity but yeah that ground level presence and
06:10what he was able to do turn the game and win the game really really impressive so yeah one to
06:14watch harvey
06:15cook that's all under the assumption that they have arki butler pushing further up the ground and
06:19and leaving those two to do the damage so yeah that's for vic metro we'll play uh next week
06:24uh for their open i see the side that has the bye if you will for the opening week
