01:15We felt like we had the talent.
01:17The previous 48 seasons since the merger, the Chiefs have been 4-17 in the playoffs.
01:28They, like Tony Gonzalez and other guys had never won a playoff game on the Chiefs.
01:35To get the job done, and it was, um, it was pretty, um, I was, uh, gosh.
02:12The Patriots dynasty.
02:21They didn't try and get the rules changed like a certain other team.
02:28Kansas City's Super Bowl dreams would remain just that.
02:33That was one of the lower points of my life, you know, even though it was the AFC championship.
02:37You know what?
02:38That, uh, that's probably gonna get me going every single time I think about it.
02:43The Chiefs' first year starting quarterback was consoled by the legend who dashed his title hopes.
02:49Obviously, I'd go back to the locker room.
02:52We kind of crossed paths, and he pretty much just talked about how much respect he had of how I
02:57competed,
02:57that I was doing everything the right way, and he told me to kind of keep that up.
03:01And so it was, it was, it was an awesome experience, uh, to be in that game,
03:04and it was cool for him, cool of him to do that in that moment.
03:07In his 19th season, Tom Brady earned a sixth Super Bowl title.
03:12But 2018 was best remembered as the year that showed what the NFL would look like beyond Brady.
03:18And that new image was Patrick Mahomes.
03:21When you get opportunity in this game, you make a play.
03:24You make a play.
03:26Few made more of their first opportunity than Mahomes.
03:30Just 23 years old, he became the second quarterback ever to throw for 5,000 yards and 50 touchdowns in
03:38the season.
03:41Here's B.U. We'll make a play for you. Let's go.
03:44Seeing his confidence grow, throwing ridiculous passes, uh, that he probably should have never even been thinking about doing.
03:54Don't look sidearm.
03:55That's incredible.
03:56Oh, my gosh. How do you not like watching him play?
03:58He went out there and absolutely balled.
04:00Batman's left-handed!
04:02Scrambling Mahomes who can throw from every angle imaginable.
04:05With Pat, it's coming every single which way, man.
04:08It's like you don't know if you're getting a screwball or a slider.
04:10It's like he's on the mound and you're kind of just guessing which pitch he's going to throw.
04:13Pitching is the perfect analogy because baseball is where the world first learned of Mahomes' powerful delivery.
04:26It came from always just being around the baseball field.
04:30Really, I just remember throwing the ball and hitting a kid, like, right between the eyes and broke his glasses
04:35and everything.
04:36And so they told me I either had to roll at the first base or I had to play first
04:39base.
04:40My dad wasn't a fan of me rolling it over there, so I ended up playing first base.
04:44With his dad, former Major League pitcher Pat Mahomes, as his teacher, pro baseball fields became valuable classrooms.
04:53Dr. Rodriguez, Derek Jeter, guys that were literally superstars and on top of the world.
04:57And what really stuck with me is they'd be the guys that were getting there the earliest.
05:01They'd be the guys that were hitting off a tee, which I hated doing when I was six years old.
05:04I think that's really translated to me because in order to be great, you have to be great every single
05:08day, year in and year out.
05:10The level of Mahomes' greatness in 2018 can be summed up in three letters.
05:16In the 2018 AP most valuable player is...
05:23Patrick Mahomes!
05:25I'm truly honored to win the NFL's most valuable player award.
05:29This is just the beginning. We have a long ways to go. Thank you.
05:34In the offseason, he continued to pull off improbable feats with his arm.
05:41Ending the Chiefs' 50-year Super Bowl drought seemed like something he could knock out of the park.
05:51Right out of the gate! A 67-yard touchdown! Kansas City!
05:57It was about trying to set the mindset of what we're going to do the entire season.
06:01Set the mindset of going out there, playing fast.
06:04You saw that we're not just one player. It's everybody on this entire team that can make plays.
06:09And I feel like that's what you need out of championship teams, is guys that can step up and make
06:12plays when their number is called.
06:13A deep post to McColl Hartman for his first National Football League touchdown!
06:19Guys were ready to go out there and just attack.
06:21Yeah, I don't think that's what we're going to do.
06:25And you know what? It's, uh, it's, it's contagious.
06:29In two wins to start the 2019 season, the Chiefs scored 68 points.
06:34Mahomes threw for over 800 yards.
06:37Defenses dreaded facing them.
06:40If you can't beat them, join them.
06:43I felt like I hadn't made the right decision to come here.
06:47You know, I could feel the energy.
06:49To be honest, I've never played with an offense quite like the one in Kansas City.
06:55Yeah, those guys are a little bit different.
06:57That's a hell of a catch!
06:59Let's go!
07:00That's a hell of a catch!
07:01Missing the game's future in person.
07:04The two hottest young quarterbacks in the NFL.
07:07Showdown for a throwdown.
07:08Lamar Jackson versus Pat Mahomes today in Kansas City.
07:11Obviously, you understand that the Ravens, I mean, we knew then they were going to be a great football team.
07:16They had a lot of great players, including Lamar Jackson, that quarterback.
07:20We knew that it was almost like a little measuring stick of where we were at.
07:23With two of the game's most exciting young quarterbacks on the same field,
07:28it was more than just the teams being measured.
07:32Lamar Jackson, that incredible athletic ability.
07:35Personally for him, I know how much he competes at trying to be the best, man.
07:39And he might not tell everybody, but you can tell by how hard he works
07:44and how much he takes notes on what everybody else is achieving.
07:49So I'm sure...
07:50A week after Kansas...
07:51And there started a long list of close, painful losses to the Chiefs for the Ravens.
07:57And 2019 MVP, Lamar Jackson.
08:02Kansas City scored 28 second-quarter points to beat the Raiders.
08:06They would score 23 in the second against Baltimore.
08:10Long, he's got Hartman wide open!
08:12An 83-yard touchdown strike by the NFL MVP!
08:19Strikes a dagger right into the midsection of the Ravens.
08:24Let's go, we'll go see y'all again!
08:26Yeah, yeah, for sure!
08:29Through a 4-0 start, it felt like the Chiefs' offense had an answer for everything.
08:34Throws it sidearm!
08:36He's got Kelsey, flips it off to Shady McCoy!
08:39A Kelsey flip to Shady...
08:40People forget what Sean McCoy was on this team and then...
08:45How did Travis Kelsey know to do that?
08:48Shady McCoy for 32 yards!
08:52While Patrick Mahomes continued to leave everyone questioning reality...
08:56Mahomes, flushed out again, all the way back.
09:01Turning the corner, fires downfield, caught!
09:05Touchdown!
09:06Only Mahomes!
09:08Stop it, you can't do this.
09:10You can't escape, you can't make these plays, you can't make these throws.
09:14Patrick Mahomes, just stop it!
09:16We haven't seen this!
09:20The Chiefs' offense had all the moves.
09:23Maybe not all of them.
09:25You right here?
09:26You have a right here, boom!
09:27You come back and there you do that!
09:30Back-to-back losses showed that the defense lacked rhythm.
09:34Yeah, offense was very, very dynamic.
09:37Defensively, I don't think we started the season like that.
09:41You know, we were really lackadaisical.
09:43Giving up 200 rushing yards per game.
09:46You know, not being able to make plays on the ball.
09:49I think that's why they gave Patrick Mahomes all that money.
09:55Before the 2019 season, Tyron Matthews got a big contract of his own.
10:01The Chiefs made the free agent the highest paid safety in the NFL.
10:05But coming to Kansas City was about more than money.
10:09I think it was more so me understanding that this was my moment to kind of take advantage of who
10:16I wanted to be going forward.
10:18Getting to his future required understanding his past.
10:22My biological father is in prison for murder.
10:25You know, I think not having my biological parents in my life, having to live with my uncle and my
10:31aunt, it made me strong.
10:33You know, as I look back, as a kid I didn't always feel strong.
10:38And I think football gave me a chance to be a part of a family that wasn't necessarily, you know,
10:46out of whack.
10:48But there were missteps in his search for that football family.
10:51Once a Heisman Trophy finalist at LSU, he was dismissed from the team before his junior season.
10:58He spent time in jail on drug charges before being drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in 2013.
11:05Ain't nothing like when your back against the wall, dawg!
11:08Ain't nothing like it, dawg!
11:11Every season was cut short because of injury.
11:14You know, I finished three seasons on IR.
11:17The injuries and, you know, obviously the things that I had dealt with before I even got to the NFL.
11:23You know, all those things were starting to kind of compound themselves.
11:27And for me, I felt like I was losing the love for football.
11:34Rejuvenated after a season in Houston, Matthew finally found the family he was looking for in Kansas City.
11:42New defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo understood the importance of family.
11:47He know how to coach.
11:48I like some legit coaching.
11:51Dinner.
11:52Coach Spag's wife, she cooked dinner for me, Hitchens, and Frank Clark.
11:57Coach told us that we were the guys that he was expecting to lead this group.
12:02Him inviting us into his home, you know, not every coach does that.
12:06So, you know, he began to, you know, get real personal with us.
12:10Did your dad, did you say your dad was in jail?
12:13Did he do that?
12:14Yeah.
12:15Have you talked to him at all?
12:16I talked to him a lot.
12:19We just wanted to return a favor.
12:21Man, championship swagger!
12:23Everybody!
12:25Championship swagger, dawg!
12:27Him being the leader and the frontrunner over there, being the voice of reason and the motivator.
12:32Him and Frank Clark.
12:34I'm a winner.
12:35I like winning.
12:36I want that ring.
12:38Chris Jones.
12:39Beat Dominic!
12:40The culture shifted into a whole new direction.
12:44In Denver, the defense brought championship swagger.
12:49The defense picks up the team.
12:52The defense of Kansas City had to change things up, and change things up they have.
12:58But the biggest blow wouldn't come from Kansas City's defense.
13:01Fourth in.
13:02Less than a yard.
13:03It was a play that I asked Coach Reed to call it, because I knew I could get the first
13:07down.
13:08Obviously, I did the quarterback sneak.
13:10I got the first down.
13:12I knew something was wrong.
13:14I just didn't want to move.
13:15And so, I was laying on my center.
13:18He's trying to get up.
13:19He's like, Pat, get off me.
13:20I'm like, poof.
13:21Like, I'm not moving right now.
13:23I looked down, and my knee is in the side of my leg.
13:27Seeing his kneecap and where it was, I mean, that was one of the most gruesome things I had ever
13:33seen.
13:34Immediately, you think, like, hopefully he can play football again.
13:37I was on the ground just kind of sitting there, season flashing before my eyes, like, man, I'm about to
13:41be out for the season.
13:43The doctor came, put my knee back in really quickly by just straightening it.
13:47The craziest part to me was I remember being in the locker room watching the game on the TV,
13:51and after they told me I couldn't come back in the game, and Brett Veach was down there with me,
13:56and he said, this will be a crazy story to tell when we win the Super Bowl.
14:00Take care of yourself this weekend.
14:02Enjoy yourself.
14:03Be smart.
14:04We got more to go, baby.
14:05Hell yeah.
14:07And got the call from Andy Reid to come and be the backup for the Chiefs about one week before
14:13the season started.
14:14Hey, Matt, don't peak too soon, babe.
14:16Hey!
14:16Woo!
14:17Always good advice.
14:20A dislocated knee sidelined Patrick Mahomes for two weeks.
14:24That meant Matt Moore would get the start on an NFL holiday.
14:28It's National Tight End Day.
14:29Nice.
14:30Yeah.
14:31Moore couldn't deny one of the game's elite tight ends a chance to celebrate on his big day.
14:38He holds it in, and the Chiefs get a 29-yard touchdown pass.
14:45Let's go!
14:46That's why he's the best, boy.
14:47Come on, Mark.
14:48The best.
14:48You know that?
14:49Complete pain.
14:49You know what we're doing?
14:50In 2019, Travis Kelsey caught his 500th pass, faster than any tight end in NFL history.
14:58He also...
14:58Him even being tops on a team that had Tony Gonzalez, him even holding the franchise record, is impressive.
15:07He did it for a league record.
15:11He became the only tight end with four straight 1,000-yard seasons.
15:15Those are receiver-type skills from a tight end.
15:18Let's go!
15:19Let's go!
15:19Let's go!
15:20No!
15:25Few players have more fun than Kelsey.
15:27Let's go!
15:31He came close to missing out on the joy he's found playing in the NFL.
15:36Made a few mistakes in college.
15:39Weren't the last ones I made, and certainly weren't the first.
15:41To be kicked out of the University of Cincinnati, it was probably the ultimate low of my life.
15:47With his football career in limbo, he worked as a healthcare telemarketer.
15:52It wasn't exactly his life's calling.
15:55It was an interesting time of my life.
15:57I got to see a lot of different opinions come across the table.
16:01But I would much rather be doing the things that I want to do in life than the things that
16:05I don't want to do,
16:06which is listening to people from Kentucky, Southern Ohio, and Eastern Indiana
16:10talk about how Medicaid is something that the United States doesn't need.
16:15Kelsey's closest ally.
16:17Yeah, these stupid hicks.
16:21Even the guy who grew up near these guys can't stand them.
16:26These Indianites.
16:28Returning to football was a college teammate and future NFL center,
16:33who also just happened to be his brother, Jason.
16:37When I got in trouble, he went up to the coaches
16:39and tried to get them to give me a second chance and sure enough, it happened.
16:43But he would always hold me accountable to making sure that our family can be proud of both of us.
16:49Family helped Travis find his way to the NFL.
16:57His return.
16:58Just three weeks after suffering what initially looked like a season-ending knee injury.
17:03My mom and my sister and my brother, we're all like, and me, we're all like double-jointed.
17:09And so they think that might have helped it when it came out.
17:12It didn't tear or break anything.
17:13And when they put it back in, it didn't tear or break anything.
17:15And then I was able to come back so quickly.
17:19Superhuman.
17:20I don't know what it is.
17:21I think he does that as his party trick now.
17:23He just takes his kneecap and puts it to the side of his knee.
17:31Mahomes jumps in the air and completes it.
17:35Look out!
17:36Afterburner time!
17:38Hartman to the end zone for the touchdown.
17:41My goodness, the jump pass by Mahomes.
17:47Mahomes' magic wouldn't be enough to stop the Titans.
17:50The defense continued to struggle.
17:53And the Chiefs' record fell to 6-4.
17:57Up until that point, I still hadn't gotten...
18:02...comfortable in the system.
18:04I can remember Spaggs, you know, personally challenging me.
18:07And I think he challenged everybody, with all of his leaders on defense,
18:11that it was time for us to turn it up a notch.
18:14We're out of a football team, dawg!
18:16Let's shoot a wall in light, dawg!
18:18Let's do it, baby!
18:18Let's do it!
18:19I truly believe that Mexico City was the start of the push for us defensively.
18:25Intercepted by Matthew!
18:26At the 30, tie!
18:27Ron Matthew!
18:2924 seconds left.
18:31Chiefs by 7.
18:32Frank Clark coming for him.
18:33A fade route right side.
18:35It's intercepted!
18:36Intercepted!
18:37Dirty!
18:38Dan Sorensen picks...
18:39Sorensen always seemed to be at the right place at the right time
18:43to disrupt the other team's offense.
18:48It's so annoying if your team has to play against him.
18:55And the Chiefs shut the gate on Phillip Rivers!
19:01They hoped to keep the momentum going in an AFC Championship rematch.
19:06We needed to beat that team, especially coming off the AFC Championship game.
19:09Obviously, I understood what happened the year before, so it was personal for everybody.
19:14If they could, they would have challenged the Patriots to a game in street clothes.
19:19They almost had no other choice.
19:21It was an interesting morning for the Chiefs, and because of a high school football game
19:25here yesterday, they couldn't unload their equipment until 8 this morning.
19:29That's when they realized they left a large crate with about 35 of the players' bags on
19:35the plane.
19:36Well, fortunately, the plane was in Newark, and they rushed the bags over.
19:40It got here about 2.30.
19:43Better late than never.
19:44That was the 2019 Chiefs.
20:13That was one of the first times I really, in my mind, said, you know what?
20:16Offensively, defensively, special teams, we came together as a group and found a way
20:21to win.
20:22Kansas City Chiefs absolutely stifling the New England Patriots in their house with 20
20:28at-answer points.
20:31Chiefs 23, Patriots 16.
20:34Brashad Breeland, at the end of the game, made one of the biggest plays of the season.
20:40Takes the snap.
20:40Chiefs bring pressure.
20:42Left side throw.
20:42Oh, it is broken up in the end zone.
20:44Knocked down by Brashad Breeland.
20:46The Chiefs hold.
20:48Your Kansas City Chiefs are the AFC West champions again.
20:55You know, it's out of my back pocket.
20:57Holy Tony.
21:00We set ourselves up by winning the West, but we knew that there's more meat on the bum.
21:05There's more things that we have to go out there and achieve to get to the ultimate prize,
21:10which is the Super Bowl.
21:12In week 17, a win against San Diego wouldn't be enough to secure a playoff bye.
21:18Also needed, the Patriots' loss at home to the 4-11 Dolphins.
21:23You can't kiss him.
21:26Goodbye.
21:27104 yards to daylight.
21:30Meanwhile, Miami has first and goal, down by four.
21:35I'm getting confused.
21:36What game are you calling?
21:37I'm calling both games.
21:44Touchdown Miami to take a lead with 24 seconds to go.
21:49We're in a timeout out of nowhere.
21:50Fans are screaming and everybody in the stands is going crazy.
21:56It was truly like a movie moment where it's a surreal feeling of everything just happening perfectly.
22:01We got a bye, man.
22:08Three black clouds seem to hover over Kansas City in January.
22:15The Chiefs started the 2019 postseason in a fog.
22:19Houston!
22:20Started it just like every other postseason ended.
22:24There.
22:26To a dome team in January, really?
22:30Okay.
22:33Bright's first!
22:35And the Texans blocking!
22:36It's loose at the 10-yard line!
22:39Lottie to the right side!
22:40He's in!
22:45Throw over the middle.
22:46Got a man!
22:46Fails!
22:47Touchdown Houston!
22:49Up three TDs to nothing!
22:52Everything that could go wrong did go wrong.
22:57Oh, man.
22:58This is embarrassing.
22:59But we got three quarters.
23:02It wasn't a great feeling to have, but we knew it was all self-inflicted.
23:05Let's do something special.
23:07Let's do something special.
23:09I already counted this out.
23:10One play at a time.
23:11Do something special.
23:13Nicole Hartman set it off.
23:15Nicole Hartman takes it at the one-yard line.
23:17He gets to the 20, 25, 30.
23:18He's got a block.
23:19He's at the 40 on the angle.
23:21Midfield.
23:21And once we had that momentum switch of a good kick return, our offense went out there and we just
23:26exploded.
23:29Damian Williams, touchdown!
23:32Steps up.
23:33Big pressure.
23:34Fires at Lake.
23:34Caught.
23:35Kelsey does.
23:36Touchdown!
23:37The Kansas City Chiefs have scored two touchdowns in a span of two minutes and 49 seconds.
23:44I don't care what they say.
23:47We are dominating them on every single play.
23:49We just keep dominating.
23:52The Chiefs set a franchise record, scoring 177 second quarter points in 2019.
23:59Against the Texans, they became the first team in NFL history to trail by 24 in the second before leading
24:06at halftime.
24:08Ten game minutes ago, it was 24 to nothing Houston.
24:13And the Chiefs have the lead.
24:15I don't think it says more about the Texans than it does about the Chiefs.
24:19They should be embarrassed.
24:21They got outscored 51 to 7 after blowing the Chiefs out for part of the game.
24:30Disgusting.
24:35I love having Patrick Mahomes on my team.
24:40As Pat began to complete his passes and as Travis began to catch his balls, it was the guys that
24:46we always count on to lift us who were lifting us.
24:50Telekinetic.
24:51That might be the best way to describe Mahomes and Kelsey's connection.
24:55A 28-yard catch.
24:56Mahomes and Kelsey do it again.
24:59I don't understand how you know what I'm doing.
25:01I knew you were going to turn.
25:02I was like, there's nothing telling you I was going to do that.
25:05And the ball was in the air before I did it.
25:07That's what I wanted you to do.
25:08And I was like, no!
25:10I was running an out route.
25:12I didn't see the ball in flight after my first three or five steps into the out route and just
25:17said, you know what, let me try and get open going this way.
25:19And as soon as I turned around, it was either going to hit me in the face or I was
25:23going to catch it.
25:27We had never practiced that.
25:28That was something that was never supposed to happen.
25:30I threw it and he catches it in stride and runs and makes a big play happen.
25:34And then we built up the chemistry to me to trust him to do stuff like that.
25:39We scored 24 points!
25:41That's nuts, dude.
25:42And then we scored 51!
25:44That's crazy.
25:47That's a way to stick together and fight.
25:48But like he said, this ain't over.
25:50We're coming back on Monday.
25:52We're getting in there.
25:53We're making sure that our mind is right and we're physically right to go out there and win at our
25:57home AFC Championship this week.
26:00You knew where we were headed.
26:02To win the Lamar Hunt Trophy.
26:05Earning the trophy, named after the Chiefs' founder, would require yet another comeback.
26:11Comes to Derrick Henry, off tackle, left, touchdown, Tennessee.
26:14Shades of last week.
26:16Ah!
26:18Come on!
26:20Feel it!
26:23Down 17-7, the Chiefs had that second quarter feeling.
26:27That was bad news for the Titans.
26:29Now throw left side, Terry, kill!
26:32Touchdown, Kansas!
26:34Kansas City!
26:35Halftime approached.
26:37That left just enough time for Patrick Mahomes to provide yet another memorable second quarter moment.
26:46Mahomes, moving to his left laterally chase, holding it, and gets out of bounds and up the sideline.
26:51He's not out of bounds yet.
26:52He's at the 10.
26:54He's at the 10.
26:54Inside the 10, he dies!
26:55Touchdown!
26:57Kansas City!
26:58A remarkable acrobatical scramble!
27:01Maybe the best play yet!
27:04Mahomes' epic feat of stamina was born out of mere exhaustion.
27:11We had a two-minute drive, so everybody's a little tired at that moment because we had been kind of
27:15driving down the field.
27:18We ran the play.
27:19The minor just got a disobeyed in his kneecap earlier in this season.
27:24A few plays before, I ran to the sideline, and the guy, I think, was a little tired of kind
27:29of giving up and just kind of throwing his hands and kind of barely pushed me out of bounds.
27:33And so, I was running, and at the last moment, I was like, man, I'm just going to try to
27:35go for it.
27:38And I was running down the sideline, and I remember I was surprised.
27:41I almost fumbled the ball, but I was able to hold on to it, dive in the end zone, find
27:45a way to score.
27:45And then it was trying to find oxygen as quickly as possible after that.
27:52Tat, like a man.
27:54Oxygen is for those running backs.
27:55And for the big 250-something-pound or more linebackers and linemen who find themselves with the other team's ball,
28:08we don't give quarterbacks oxygen.
28:12We're supposed to have that stamina.
28:15Rick Henry.
28:17Henry is hit and taken down!
28:20I was glad we got the opportunity to show the world that we were a much better defense.
28:27They're down to the last gasp of oxygen.
28:291.28 to go in the game.
28:31Fourth and sixth.
28:33Tannehill under pressure.
28:35Still moving to his right.
28:36Frank Clark chasing.
28:37Knocks it down!
28:38Tannehill goes down!
28:40Frank Clark has just given Kansas City its first trip to the Super Bowl in 50 years!
28:48No!
28:53It's been 50 years, man.
28:55This is not about me, man.
28:56This is about the people of Kansas City.
28:58They deserve it way more than us, no doubt.
29:01For the fans that have went through the years of down and the years of almost to be able to
29:05get them to the Super Bowl,
29:07it was really cool.
29:11Look how many people are happy because of Lamar.
29:14He did this.
29:15So it's the best.
29:17This organization isn't here without Lamar Hunt.
29:19You can feel every single game how much these fans appreciate that and how much it meant to Clark Hunt
29:25and the Hunt family.
29:27To finally bring home their father's name, it was definitely a cool feeling to be a part of that, man.
29:36I'm a passionate guy, sorry.
29:39I absolutely loved every bit of being on that stage for them, that's for sure.
29:45You're in Hawaiian shirts in honor of their head coach, Andy Reid.
29:51The Hawaiian shirts, obviously we're going to Miami.
29:54Coach Reid wears the Tommy Bahama shirts.
29:57You know, it's all about trying to represent him in the right way.
30:01Trying to make him, you know, feel that love that we most certainly feel from him.
30:07What he means to this team, what he means to this organization, what he means to football.
30:12How many guys he's helped along the way.
30:14And going into that year, for him not to have a ring was unfathomable.
30:18A guy that amazing at his job, it put a chip on everybody's shoulder in the building to go out
30:23there and get one for him.
30:24If getting Andy Reid his first Super Bowl ring as a head coach wasn't enough motivation, a classic story from
30:31one who has multiple rings hammered it home.
30:41Jimmy Johnson came up to us, I think it was the Thursday before the Super Bowl.
30:46Let the man control the body, not the body.
30:49He told us the story of a 2x4.
30:50If you put a 2x4 on the ground and ask every player in the NFL to walk it, everybody's going
30:55to be able to walk it.
30:56But if you put it 20 feet in the sky, all of a sudden, fear comes in.
31:04These outside distractions start to get into your head.
31:08And you almost have doubt that you can't walk down a 2x4 anymore.
31:12And he was like, don't let the Super Bowl be 20 feet in the sky.
31:17Let it be exactly what it is and what you know it to be, which is just a walk down
31:22a line.
31:24Resonate it because that's all it really is, man.
31:26It's just a whole bunch of hype for a game that you've been playing since you were a little kid.
31:30Jimmy Johnson said it best, baby.
31:32Like we're walking on the 2x4, whether it's on the ground or 10 feet in the air.
31:36At the end of the day, we've been doing this our whole life.
31:38All we have to do is believe in each other and play for each other, dog.
31:41We need energy.
31:43We need oneness.
31:44We need to be remembered.
31:50Have a great one, Skip.
31:51Let's forget about the good one.
31:52Let's have a great one.
31:53Be you.
31:53Make one to remember, Coach.
31:5535!
31:56The Chiefs came out looking to reverse their trend of slow postseason starts.
32:013rd and 11 at the 15-yard line.
32:03Scrambling to the right.
32:04He'll run at the 10!
32:05He's at the 5!
32:07And lost the football out of bounds!
32:09Hey, too old.
32:11That's a good-ass hit, though.
32:12Patrick is up and took a lick.
32:14I was trying to get the first down.
32:16I wanted to slide.
32:18He's always been a little shaky in those situations.
32:20Doesn't know when to quite slide or when to dive.
32:26Which is, it's, I love to joke with him about it.
32:29What happened?
32:30You fumbled it backwards.
32:32It's not where I was at?
32:34No, no.
32:35It went out backwards.
32:37The 4th and 1 presented the perfect time to pull out a play tucked deep in the recesses of Andy
32:43Reid's mind.
32:44Hey, it's going to be ship the Rose Bowl ride parade.
32:47It's going to be, hey, hey, ship the Rose Bowl ride parade.
32:50I think Coach Reid looked it up.
32:51It was like, something like 1948.
32:52It was something there, the 1948, whatever, Rose Bowl.
32:56And I think it was like UCLA versus somebody.
32:57I don't know.
32:58It was a long time.
32:59It was in some black and white film that he had pulled up for us on like the first day
33:03of OTAs.
33:04That's like before Andy Reid himself was born.
33:08And we had it in every single game plan and practice it every single week of the entire year and
33:12never ran it.
33:13So I'm like, we're never going to run this play.
33:15And, of course, we get in the perfect situation in the Super Bowl and we shift and we run it.
33:19Shift!
33:20Now they spin around.
33:21They send one of the running backs in motion.
33:23It's a direct snap and it goes to Williams who runs over the guard on the hash mark.
33:26He got to the two.
33:27He sends his way near the goal line.
33:30First and goal.
33:31I thought...
33:32The 49ers were this close to...
33:35Just got to the Super Bowl just to be a half...
33:37Half a yard away from letting the Hokey Pokey formation score on them.
33:44This is why they haven't won anything in 30 plus years.
33:49We scored at the time.
33:50I was so hyped.
33:51Goal!
33:52Get the ball!
33:55It looked like the four tops.
33:58Andy Reid doing some special things right now.
34:00It's just crazy.
34:01You practice it at one play like a thousand times and you run it one time in the Super Bowl
34:05in a crucial situation and it works.
34:08A more conventional quarterback keeper gave the Chiefs a first quarter lead for the first time in the postseason.
34:15And Kansas City with a stellar drive on a fourth and one converting.
34:20I'm a beast!
34:22Hit me!
34:23Hit me!
34:24The 49ers' defense happily obliged.
34:32The relentless push by the 49ers.
34:37Now hit and he fumbles the football.
34:39You got to give props to the San Francisco defense for presenting a challenge that it seemed like we weren't
34:45ready for at the time.
34:46We were making mistakes that we don't usually make.
34:48Wait a second!
34:51Making the wrong reads.
34:52Making the wrong reads.
34:52There was guys running open that I wasn't throwing to.
34:56That two-by-four felt like it was a hundred feet in the air.
35:01They thought Nick Bosa wasn't going to show up in his own home area.
35:06He grew up in Fort Lauderdale.
35:08Like, ways away from Miami.
35:13Not too far.
35:14As it downfield, it's intercepted.
35:16The first postseason pick thrown by Patrick Mahomes.
35:20Slant pattern.
35:21Incomplete.
35:22Is it picked off?
35:23It's picked off off the deflection.
35:25Second interception for Patrick Mahomes on consecutive drives.
35:31Second one, I felt worse about just because we were already in field goal range and we were down ten
35:36points.
35:37I got you.
35:38I'm good.
35:38I got you.
35:39I was like, well, you've already done two interceptions.
35:42The only thing you can do is just go out there and just play now.
35:44Nothing worse that could happen.
35:46Anytime you've got 1-5 on your team, you've got a chance.
35:50You've got to find a way to score or the game's going to be over.
35:53Believe, baby.
35:54Believe, baby.
35:56Do something special, baby.
35:57If you gave us that inch of room to gain momentum, man, we were going to take it.
36:037-17 to go in Super Bowl 54.
36:06Mahomes gunning it.
36:08Right side and a diving catch made.
36:10Tyreek Hill at the 48-yard line of San Francisco.
36:13We had thrown the ball and I didn't know if it was completion or not.
36:16An official review gave Patrick Mahomes and offensive coordinator Eric Biennemi a chance to discuss a potential next play.
36:24Do we have time to run to Walsh?
36:29The last few drives, we had talked about running Walsh.
36:32We thought it was going to be a good play.
36:33It was going to be open.
36:34Is it first down or no?
36:36After reviewing the play, the ball hit the ground.
36:38It's an incomplete pass.
36:40It'll be third and 15.
36:42Gun Trey Wright, three-jet chip.
36:44Walsh, wide funnel.
36:47Gun Trey Wright, you get open.
36:49Both of y'all get open.
36:50It's such a long-developing play.
36:52With that pass rush, we're going to have to have a great protection.
36:57Shot, guns him, drops back five.
36:59Got the blocks.
37:00They come on the side.
37:00He winds up.
37:01There's a long pass.
37:02Wide open hill.
37:05Gets it to the ball.
37:06The 22 is San Francisco.
37:0844-yard completion.
37:10That was a miracle throw.
37:14The first giant chunk of the game.
37:16And Mahomes guns it for 44 yards.
37:20You don't have too many plays for third and 15 in the playbook, but luckily enough, we had one.
37:27We have a little bit of protection to give me some time.
37:30A little underthrown to Tyreek.
37:32But he was able to make the big play happen.
37:37Wow.
37:38What a play.
37:39I mean, I don't think any other coach, quarterback, and wide receiver could have pulled that off.
37:47It's like the perfect trio at the perfect time.
38:07That's what the Chiefs offense is all about.
38:09That one huge play, third and 15, may have changed this entire game.
38:15It's funny looking back, because we knew it was momentum, but we didn't know that was going to be the
38:20turning point in the game.
38:21We still had a mentality of, we're down two scores, we've got to get this ball in the end zone.
38:26After three and a half quarters lying dormant, the sting of a wasp woke the sleeping offensive beast.
38:34Touchdown!
38:36Kansas City!
38:366.13 to go in the game.
38:39The Chiefs have life!
38:41Let's get it!
38:42Let's get it!
38:43It's over!
38:44It was probably the oldest play that we have in the book.
38:48Nobody covered me, man.
38:49It was wide open.
38:50Come on!
38:52Come on!
39:01The right side caught, Sammy Watkins!
39:03Over the shoulder and out of bounds, and deep in San Francisco territory.
39:08Third down, goal to go with the five.
39:10Throw right side, caught by Williams!
39:12They're the right pilot!
39:14Touchdown!
39:16Kansas City regains the lead at 2.44 to go.
39:23They're going to talk about this forever.
39:25This is how we want it.
39:27It's all nuts.
39:28This is how we want it.
39:29It's all nuts.
39:30Obviously, it was high expectations coming into the season.
39:34You know, whether or not defensively we would hold up.
39:38A year earlier, they couldn't finish.
39:40But the 2019 Chiefs defense closed with championship swagger.
39:49Make it up!
39:54They have stepped up, and they have delivered for Chiefs' kingdom.
39:58Come here, bro.
39:59I feel like at that moment, the whole world knew that the Kansas City Chiefs actually do
40:07play defense.
40:08Hey, we're going to need one more.
40:10There's 125 to play in the game.
40:12The 49ers have three timeouts left.
40:15This game is not over.
40:16We need a first down.
40:17Come on, that ball.
40:18Stay inbound.
40:18Let's get it!
40:20I still don't think Damian Williams gets enough credit for what he brought.
40:23The last time the Chiefs have even been in the Super Bowl before this,
40:29those networks weren't even broadcasting out of the U.S.
40:33So, literally, this is other countries' first time hearing, who are the Kansas City Chiefs?
40:39Where is Kansas City?
40:41What team is that?
40:45Rock, he's someone that I truly believe helped mold this offense into what it was.
40:51An offense that had one big play left in Super Bowl 54.
41:05Damian Williams runs to immortality!
41:09Kansas City has won their first Super Bowl in 50 years!
41:13And the Chiefs Kingdom has firmly planted its flag on top of football's highest summit!
41:22That's awesome!
41:23That's awesome, coach!
41:26I was just so happy for Coach Reed.
41:28For me, it was about getting him that trophy and winning that championship first.
41:43You can't say enough about Big Red, man.
41:45It's been amazing, the jump, and to go from where we started to the Super Bowl champions.
41:52Coach Reed set that standard.
41:57We did it, baby!
41:58We did it!
42:00I love you!
42:02My whole entire life of taking me around clubhouses,
42:06or my mom taking me to tournaments all around the state of Texas, or wherever it is.
42:10For them to be there and be a part of that championship,
42:13and all that hard termination thing paying off, it's really cool.
42:17Hey, sweet man!
42:18I wasn't always a part of my mom and dad's experiences,
42:23and so I think having that opportunity to share it with my kids,
42:28it was everything.
42:31I talked to my dad probably a couple days after the Super Bowl,
42:34and, you know, it's been a lot of people who've given me second chances,
42:38and I realized that he's a better person, too.
42:41So not only did I win the Super Bowl, but I kind of got my dad back in my life,
42:45so, you know, it's special.
42:50BABAAA!
42:53I'm out of it, big guy!
42:54Oh, my God!
42:55Oh, my God!
42:57I'm so happy for you.
43:00The family of champions, Kelsey, Jason Kelsey got his first,
43:04and now Drivers Kelsey got his.
43:05You've worked so hard all your life.
43:09Never, ever really got the recognition you deserve.
43:15I can't tell us nothing before, big guy.
43:20Yeah.
43:22I mean,
43:25this pops, man.
43:30I've had a lot of lows that he's been there,
43:33and I've been ashamed to even look him in the eyes,
43:35but, uh...
43:39That point in time, man,
43:43it was, uh...
43:44It was nothing but love,
43:45and I appreciate him for always being there.
43:48I'll tell you what.
43:49Got you one marriage with me forever.
43:51You can't get rid of me now, big guy.
43:54This team, everybody's linked together forever, man,
43:58and, uh, if you ask Coach Reed,
44:00I bet you he didn't know he was going to get married twice.
44:05Santa City, baby!
44:20It's a cool story that I'll be able to tell forever,
44:22but, uh, I'm still at the beginning of my career,
44:24and I'm still trying to go out there and get more.
44:31You're married to me forever.
44:33Feels the exact same way.
44:35World champions!
