00:01I
01:22This is Joe Flacco, quarterback of the Baltimore Ravens.
01:28In 2008, he was a prospect from the University of Delaware.
01:33His big arm caught the attention of scouts.
01:36His attitude caught the attention of Ravens rookie head coach, John Harbaugh.
01:40Joe had something to prove, you know.
01:43Joe had a chip on his shoulder, you know, and that was a good thing.
01:47You know, Joe had not come up the easy way.
02:02They actually had the 8th pick of the draft, and they went back to 26.
02:06And when they went back to 26, I think that gave me a little heads up.
02:10Eh, maybe they are interested in me.
02:14Baltimore traded up.
02:17I want to be a Raven.
02:19We traded back and got so many picks, we felt like we needed to trade back up to get them
02:23at 18.
02:24With the 18th pick of the 2008 NFL draft, the Baltimore Ravens select Joe Flacco.
02:37With a rookie...
02:37Give Harbaugh credit, give organization their credit.
02:41Dug them out of the quarterback hole that was holding them back for seven years.
02:49I mean, look at some of the terrible quarterbacks they had.
02:53Elvis Gerdback, Redman, Anthony Wright, Steve McNair, Kyler Bowler.
03:07He had coach and a rookie quarterback.
03:10No one would have blamed veteran Ray Lewis if he wasn't too excited about starting over.
03:16I probably had that thought for a quick second before I saw Joe Flacco throw a football.
03:22And I was like, this kid has a cannon.
03:33Flacco started all 16 games his rookie year and led the Ravens to the AFC title game.
03:38He's got Mason into 10, 5, touchdown!
03:42Oh, what a throw by Joe Flacco!
03:46Flacco won playoff games in each of his first four seasons.
03:49But his failure to deliver a Super Bowl to Baltimore left him open as a media target.
04:11That certainly got a lot of attention, you know, and Joe was answering exactly the right way.
04:15I mean, I think I'm the best.
04:16I don't think I'm the top five.
04:17I mean, I think I'm the best.
04:18I mean, I don't think I'd be very professional.
04:20I mean, I don't think I'd be very professional.
04:23I knew you were going to say that.
04:25It's an awkward question.
04:26It's just what everybody wants to talk about these days.
04:28And I really believe that if you're going to be any good in this league, that's what you have to
04:32think about yourself.
04:33Flacco has earned the nickname Joe Cool, and his laid-back style was never more evident than on his wedding
04:39day.
04:39We took a trolley around town and got a bunch of pictures.
04:42I mean, Joe Flacco was really very good up until 2015 when he started getting injured.
04:55He was elite.
04:57He was January Joe.
05:02Taking it to different places, and, you know, we were with all of our friends, and that was actually a
05:05lot more fun than I would have thought.
05:06My wife was just about taking all the pictures.
05:09I was kind of just like, okay, let's do it.
05:11When we went and did it, I had a ton of fun.
05:14I think my personality is I'm a pretty hard-headed person that likes to have a little bit of fun,
05:18and I believe in my ways.
05:20He's one of the strongest-minded guys you're ever going to meet.
05:23Sometimes it drives you crazy, but in a good way.
05:26Hey, listen, listen.
05:26Open on the outside.
05:27Hey, listen, listen.
05:28Please listen to me.
05:29Please listen to me.
05:29Okay, I said before the game that the game is in your hands, all right?
05:33Give our guys a chance.
05:34Throw them the ball.
05:35Put it on them.
05:36I went back at them.
05:37I said, get the hell out of here.
05:39Get out.
05:39Get off me, man.
05:39Put it on them.
05:40We got a policy around here we call an open mic policy.
05:44It's not an open door policy.
05:45It's an open mic.
05:46I mean, say what needs to be said.
05:47Hey, we're 15 for 19.
05:48We're playing too conservative.
05:49They like that.
05:50If you're not man enough to put it out there and make a good case for something, then obviously it's
05:54not a very good argument.
05:56So, you know, say what you think.
05:57I'm just saying, in order to win a Super Bowl, we can't play like this.
06:01Out of that grows trust, and from that you have a chance to be successful.
06:04I'm not trying to argue with you.
06:05I'm just telling you what we're going to need to do.
06:08Coming into 2012, there was a buzz surrounding the Ravens' new, less conservative offense.
06:14One of the biggest things we wanted to start with was just that tempo and getting the plays in and
06:18going and just putting the pressure on the defense in the sense of running plays quickly.
06:22We're talking about an offense that's determined to be a top-flight offense and putting up points on the board.
06:29We were in a no-huddle.
06:30We didn't huddle the whole game.
06:31You know, it worked.
06:32I thought that was a statement.
06:34Two weeks later, the Ravens were coping with the death of wide receiver Torrey Smith's younger brother.
06:40But that didn't keep Smith from having the game of his life.
06:44Black goes firing deep.
06:45Far side, look at end zone.
06:47And it is caught!
06:49Torrey Smith!
06:50I just was in awe of the moment.
06:52You know, I mean, for that to play out the way it's going.
06:58The magic is still in the house!
07:01Just a moment.
07:09And ultimately, that was the key to the whole season.
07:18Everybody in here knows what's coming three times.
07:21Everybody knows it.
07:22What's my name?
07:23What's my name?
07:24What's my name?
07:25What's my name?
07:25The whole thing about what's our name ties into Muhammad Ali and who are you.
07:29And it's about respect.
07:30And it's about people understanding what you're really about and then respecting what you're
07:35really about.
07:36And sometimes you have to be firm in what you believe.
07:39When John Harbaugh arrived in 2008, he needed to find a way to connect with his veteran team.
07:46Everybody got their own thing, the way they want to do it.
07:48And, you know, sometimes the guys kind of don't agree.
07:51And, you know, and I was kind of the median.
07:54Fast, physical, and to the point.
07:56Ray's an inspirational leader.
07:57You know, he pulls people along with him.
08:00I mean, they, you know, he kind of grabs them up.
08:02You know, he's like, he's a leader with a huge following.
08:05You know, that's kind of who he is.
08:06And he just, he just goes in his direction.
08:07Man, people latch on to him.
08:09One man.
08:10One man.
08:10One heart.
08:11One heart.
08:12One spirit.
08:12One spirit.
08:13One soul.
08:13One soul.
08:14And together.
08:15And together.
08:15We can do all things.
08:16We can do all things.
08:17When you've got somebody that you believe in, that's sitting out there in the audience,
08:20you know, that's talking to the guys every single day, someone that cares about you and
08:24wants you to be successful, as a head coach, that's everything.
08:29Well, it's going to come down to this.
08:32Dallas will get a chance to try to kick to win.
08:36Bailey's 51 to win.
08:38Kick on the way.
08:39It's long enough.
08:41It's no good.
08:43One to the left.
08:44Yes.
08:45At five and one, the Ravens were tied for the best record in the AFC, but that's where
08:50the good news stopped.
08:52Sorry, sorry, sorry.
08:54I'm sorry.
08:55Late in the game.
08:59The main guy of the franchise, Ray Lewis, he injured himself.
09:05Ray Lewis tore his right triceps.
09:07When I went to the doc, you know, she felt the divot in my arm.
09:12And she said, you tore it from the bone.
09:15Well, I was told that it was a season-ending injury, but at that point in time, there weren't
09:19a lot of answers.
09:21I listened to doc.
09:22I said, doc, has anybody ever came back from this?
09:24She said, no.
09:26I said, okay, I got my answer.
09:28The following week, without their leader, Baltimore was blown out by the Texans.
09:34Our bye week was the next week.
09:36Unacceptable.
09:38I don't think we wanted to practice quite as much as John had the schedule set for people
09:42get crazy every now and then, and, you know, guys getting arguments, and that's kind of
09:46what happened.
09:47That was challenging.
09:48You know, that was tough.
09:49A bunch of strong-minded men.
09:52But the good news was they had a strong-minded head coach standing in front of them.
09:55So if there was going to be a fight, then, hey, let's have a fight.
09:59It was described in the media as a mutiny, a closed-door meeting between players and coaches
10:05that lasted for half an hour.
10:08Sizzle was like, you need to get back.
10:10He was like, everything out of order.
10:12He was like, as soon as the general leaves, he was like, it's all messed up up here, bro.
10:17He was like, man, I'm meeting today.
10:19I ain't never had a meeting like that in my life.
10:21That goes back to the open mic.
10:23I mean, we probably got more accomplished in that half hour toward, you know, becoming
10:27the champions that we were going to become than any half hour we'd done all year.
10:30And I couldn't have been happier when we walked out of the meeting.
10:33I wasn't too happy while it was going on.
10:35You know, it was tough.
10:42The Ravens won three straight after the mutiny, punctuated by a 13-10 victory over the Steelers.
10:50There's a note here.
10:51It says, the team that plays the best, the most efficient, the most resilient, the most
11:00solid, the most smart, the most mentally tough, will win the game.
11:06I think as head coaches, you look for things that motivate football teams, and you look for
11:11little signals here, and you look for little things here that can kind of be foundations
11:14for a football program.
11:16John's way of doing that is grabbing a couple props.
11:19What do we say?
11:20Keep digging.
11:21Keep digging.
11:22And we also said, with a sword in the other hand, right?
11:26Right there it is.
11:27You know, so when he gets up there, you know, sometimes he can lose you.
11:30He can lose you, you know.
11:31Where is the wise man?
11:33Where is the scholar?
11:35Where is the philosopher of this age?
11:37But he always has a fine point that he wants to hone in on.
11:41There's always something that he wants you to grab on to.
11:44It didn't say anything about the prettiest.
11:46It said the toughest.
11:47The toughest team won that football game.
11:50That motto goes for when he brought Muhammad Ali out.
11:55We saw so many Ali videos, and it was never pretty.
12:00It was never perfect.
12:02But he never stopped.
12:04Ali really inspired.
12:06Which Ali are we talking about?
12:0870s Ali?
12:1060s Ali was pretty perfect.
12:12But you know what?
12:15To get the man himself at that training camp is, you know, something different.
12:22With that attitude, we finna go into heavyweight fights every week.
12:28And it ain't going to always be pretty, and it ain't going to always be perfect.
12:31But we can find a way to win.
12:33They have to get to the Chargers 34 to get a first down to keep the drive and a hope
12:38for this game alive.
12:40It's 14-29.
12:42And for whatever reason, rather than throw the ball up somewhere, you know, I can't tell you why.
12:46I really honestly can't.
12:48And I decided to check them all down.
12:53Throws on the cover, Greg Rice.
12:54He's at 45-50.
12:56Coming near side, stiff arms to man.
12:58Sheds a tackle.
12:59Charger 40.
13:00Gets a block.
13:00Greg Rice has the first down.
13:02And the Ravens are still alive.
13:07You throw the other team's hope against him, and it all dries up.
13:17Either way, whether we convert that on throwing the ball up on a Hail Mary or doing what we did,
13:24I was definitely lucky.
13:26I don't know if anything will happen like that ever again.
13:31Dick on the way.
13:32It is up.
13:33It is good.
13:35And Justin Pucker has won it for the Ravens in overtime.
13:39We weren't pretty, and we weren't perfect, and we never have been.
13:42And the truth is, nobody really is.
13:44But at least we were us.
13:53Jim Colt, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh, offered no specifics as to why he fired his
13:58offensive coordinator so late in the season.
14:00When your offensive coordinator gets fired, I mean, especially me, you look at yourself,
14:04and everybody looks at themselves and says, man, you feel somewhat responsible for that,
14:10you know, especially as a quarterback.
14:13You're the leader of the offense, and you're what makes it go.
14:16The firing came after consecutive losses to the Steelers and Redskins.
14:20The Ravens stood at 9-4, with just three games left in the regular season.
14:26We got to...
14:32That 1-4 was a fluke.
14:35They go 3-2, and they're pretty good.
14:40But no, losing to the Redskins is unacceptable.
14:46To move forward, we just had to make a change.
14:49I felt like we were running down parallel roads.
14:51It's kind of like the highway, the side road next to the highway.
14:53And we kept trying to find the exit to get onto the main highway and really take off,
14:58and we just couldn't find our way over there.
15:00Well, I didn't know exactly where the road was, but you just kind of knew we just couldn't
15:04keep going down this road.
15:05We had to get over there somehow.
15:06We've made a change at offensive coordinator.
15:10We've replaced Cam with Jim Caldwell.
15:13To make that move then, I think it gave our team this shock of, like,
15:21we want to go in a different direction because we think we're good enough to win right now.
15:28The dramatic change did not have the desired impact.
15:32The Broncos trampled Baltimore, leaving the Ravens still one win short of the playoffs.
15:40Everything that could have went bad, that they went bad.
15:43And sometimes you need a harsh wake-up call.
15:48Even though we'd lost three straight games, all we had to do was win one more game,
15:52and we knew that we were division champs.
15:53The bottom line today is AFC North Championship, man.
15:57It's our time.
15:58It's our history.
15:59Let's create it right now.
16:00Let's go.
16:03Black will throw it deep.
16:05Looking for Torrey Smith inside the 10.
16:06Smith reaches up, and he makes the grab.
16:08We made the jump and got into the fast lane,
16:10and we started playing the way we knew we could.
16:13Caught.
16:13Touchdown, Torrey Smith.
16:17One week ago, we was the worst team in football.
16:21And how did we win that many games,
16:23and how we struggling, and nothing can be fixed.
16:26And, yeah, everything was wrong.
16:28And the next week we come in and face the defending Super Bowl champs.
16:32And every pass was caught, every tackle was made.
16:36And that's it.
16:38That's the sports.
16:39We move on that quickly.
16:41Complete Ray Rice.
16:4315, 10, 5.
16:46Flacco led the Ravens to a season high.
16:4814, I believe.
16:50And if you watched my last America's Game episode,
16:55I told you that the Ravens would have beaten the Giants in Super Bowl XLVI.
17:01Here's your proof.
17:02Exhibit A.
17:03This is a worse Ravens team than the year prior whose heart and soul was injured.
17:11And they trounced the Giants.
17:13So they would have trounced them in the Super Bowl XLVI had they not gotten unlucky.
17:22533 yards of total offense.
17:24And Baltimore clinched its second consecutive division title.
17:28We have a saying all the time.
17:30We say, you know, have I told you lately that I love you?
17:37I love this team.
17:38I love every single guy on this team.
17:40I love the way they compete.
17:41I love the way they work, the way they fight.
17:43You know, you hear Ray talk.
17:44You can understand why.
17:45And this is just a really special group of men.
17:47How far, you know, we take each other, we'll find out.
17:56When we went out and played in New York the way we did,
17:58I thought we had that ability to be the team this year that just gets hot.
18:02I wrote this card three weeks ago.
18:04Remember?
18:05Three weeks ago.
18:05And here's what it said.
18:08One in spirit.
18:10Can you read that?
18:11Yeah?
18:12I wrote it fast, okay, after that loss.
18:15One in spirit.
18:16One in purpose.
18:18Do nothing out of selfish ambition.
18:20Look not only to your own interests, but to the interests of others.
18:24Be a servant.
18:25Be a leader, right?
18:26That's what this team's all about.
18:28That's what you men are all about.
18:29That's why you're champions.
18:34I told my team that this would be my last ride.
18:38I looked at my men's faces, and I was like, oh, my goodness.
18:44I was like, man, this is, wow, okay.
18:48Maybe I didn't weigh out how deep this might be.
18:51Like, this is huge.
18:53When he made that speech, I remember thinking, man, I hope Ray's one of those guys that goes out on
18:57top.
18:58Because if he does, that means I'm winning one this year.
19:00This ain't it.
19:01Yeah.
19:01This ain't it.
19:02But this stadium, we own it.
19:04Everything we got, we own it.
19:06Anticipation was building for Lewis' final home introduction, a staple in Baltimore for 17 years.
19:12The first year, Ray and I talked about whether we were going to keep the introduction or not.
19:16And Ray, believe it or not, Ray was okay with.
19:20I'm not going to say he was four, but he was okay with cutting the introduction out.
19:24If that was what was going to be best for our team.
19:27But then we had the conversation.
19:28He explained to me how he saw it.
19:30His point was, it sparks our team.
19:32It energizes our football team.
19:34And he convinced me that it wasn't about him.
19:37It was about us.
19:39And as long as he saw it that way, and the players saw it that way and understood it that
19:43way,
19:43and as I got to know him over the years, that became totally evident by the final introduction
19:49when all the guys were up there taking part in that moment with him.
19:53When I came out against the Colts, it captured my entire career because it showed that it
20:03really ain't about me.
20:05It's about my team.
20:13It meant everything that their general was coming back to make this one last ride.
20:30Things happened early in that game that made you feel like, we're going to be okay.
20:37Hey, start with this.
20:39They took down the fraud Colts.
20:42The fake Colts.
20:46It was coming off the middle on a blitz.
20:48Handoff goes to Fowler.
20:49Ray Lewis breaks him down in the backfield.
20:51I saw it.
20:53You could not hear nothing when I saw it and made that play.
21:06They always talk about one of those plays you'll always remember in your career.
21:11That's one of those moments that you'll always remember.
21:16The play that I remember the most in the whole game was the play where Ray gets a ball thrown
21:21right to him.
21:27Of course, he blamed it on the equipment.
21:29He normally has pretty good hands.
21:34Come on, Ray had great hands.
21:37Come on.
21:38Great hands.
21:3930 plus interceptions as a linebacker.
21:42Yeah, he had great hands.
21:45Hey.
21:46Hey.
21:47Think out of your way.
21:47Catch that ball.
21:49Trust me.
21:50I got my grief.
21:51The guys gave me everything that they wanted to give me about dropping that interception that day.
21:56That was a gift, wasn't it?
21:59That was a happy new year.
22:00I didn't even bounce it like three times.
22:02I don't like I was going to catch it again.
22:07Let's go.
22:08Let's go.
22:12Ray Lewis came back after a 10-week absence with a tricep injury and once again turned back
22:19the clock.
22:20Good boy.
22:22The vintage day by Lewis was matched by what was quickly becoming standard Joe Flacco.
22:36I hope he's taking notes.
22:38I hope he's taking notes.
23:00That was easy.
23:01That was the easiest idea in the world.
23:03That was just, that just came, man.
23:05It was, you know, how else are we going to end this thing?
23:07I'm going to have you take a bow.
23:08I might put you on victory.
23:10Be the bad guy.
23:11Okay, I'll go get my helmet.
23:11Yeah, let's do that.
23:13You got to go find his helmet, I think.
23:15Can you find your helmet in time, Ray?
23:17Don't tackle the quarterback.
23:19All right?
23:19I won't.
23:19We're on offense, baby.
23:20I won't.
23:22Ray Lewis is running on the field.
23:25It was set as the deep back in the victory formation.
23:28I'm reporting elsewhere.
23:30That was awesome.
23:32You know, I haven't had any snaps where Ray Lewis has been on the field at the same time
23:35I have.
23:36So, the fact that his last snap in M&B Bank Stadium, I was on the field with him.
23:40That's cool with me.
23:42He's on the field for his final play in Baltimore.
23:47By the time I got out there, you know, every guy out there that's, you got to do this, you
23:52got to do this, you got to do this.
23:54I'm like, all right, all right, I got it.
23:56I got it.
23:58There's the snap, and that is the end of an era in Baltimore.
24:04Oh.
24:14And I was like, you know what, this is the reason why I said, when I said it, that this
24:19would be my last ride, because now we all get to appreciate the moment.
24:27This is the coldest game I've ever been a part of, you know.
24:29It was so cold that John Fox's eyebrows had icicles hanging off of him in pregame.
24:34You know, I had my stocking cap on in pregame, and he had his ball cap on.
24:37And I'm like, you know, wow, geez, I feel kind of like soft out here.
24:41I need to put my ball cap on if he's going to have his ball cap on.
24:45So, I put my ball cap on, and I come out, he's got his stocking cap on.
24:48He outsmarted me.
24:50Oh.
24:51It was so much really keeping our minds off the cold, because it was so much people
24:56like beefing with the fans, and they was going back and forth.
25:00We love being a bad guy.
25:02We love being a bad guy.
25:05You know what they say when they see us?
25:08They pointed at us and say, those are the bad guys.
25:12You know, they had retirement posters up.
25:15Oh, my gosh.
25:16The Red Louis Retirement Party, baby!
25:19Woo!
25:20I think we forgot about it.
25:24Just the minutes in...
25:25Bronco fans beef with the Ravens.
25:28They're such a random thief.
25:31Like, they're not even associated.
25:34Into the game, Baltimore found itself trailing to a team that it had lost to by 17 points
25:39just four weeks before.
25:4489-yard return for a touchdown, and the house is rockin' it dead.
25:49Yeah, it don't matter.
25:50We got to go ahead and do our thing.
25:52Oh, yeah.
25:52Oh, yeah.
25:53We kind of just sat over there and said, okay, you know, it's really cold.
25:56Let's just go out there and do what we can do.
26:00Let's go out there and do it.
26:27We go into halftime.
26:28It's 21-21.
26:29We say what we're going to say.
26:31We think we got the guys ready.
26:33And Ray says, I got to talk to the team.
26:35Let me talk to the team.
26:37I'm like, sure.
26:39Talk to the team any time you want.
26:40I grabbed the team.
26:44And we all stood there together as men.
26:47And we screamed, no weapon formed against us shall prosper.
26:52All I asked as a leader was, can every man on this field bring nothing but positive energy?
27:00Nothing.
27:01Like, there's no doubt.
27:03There's no fear.
27:04No nothing.
27:05Let's go win a ball game.
27:11And we take the field bolstered by that.
27:15And we're standing on the sideline.
27:18And the ball.
27:19Oh, hold on.
27:22Hold on.
27:30Second half.
27:31And it goes to Trin and Holiday.
27:33And there it goes.
27:35All the way back.
27:3625-30.
27:38And he's going to go all the way again.
27:40It's 28-21.
27:41I thought we were supposed to be good at special teams in Baltimore.
27:47The place is shaking.
27:49It's going crazy.
27:50I cannot believe it.
27:52That was a weapon forged against us.
27:54No weapon, man.
27:56No weapon.
27:59With 1-0-9 to go, the Ravens took the field down seven.
28:03They had no timeouts and were 77 yards away from the tying score.
28:09It felt like we could get the ball down the field in striking range by the end of the game.
28:14But we needed to manage the clock wisely, okay?
28:16We have an incomplete pass.
28:18And the next thing you know, Joe scrambles around, gains a few yards, and the clock's still running.
28:23Now we have a problem.
28:25The Ravens need help from above.
28:28They are out of timeouts.
28:31The clock is running.
28:36Denver rushes three.
28:40Flacco steps up.
28:42Throws deep.
28:48Jacoby Jones has it at the 20.
28:51Jacoby Jones, touchdown!
28:54Ravens!
28:55And the miracle is answered!
29:04I just want to say, first, like, RIP Jacoby Jones, uh, like, he left us far too early.
29:23When you see that ball drop in Jacoby's hands, that's the first time in an 80-plus-thousand
29:31stadium you can hear a rat piss on cotton.
29:40The thing you remember is Jacoby catching the football and running the end zone.
29:45You forget that all that did was tie the game up.
29:48In overtime, the Ravens played nearly an entire quarter before seizing an opportunity to go back to the AFC title
29:55game.
29:5947 field goal try in overtime to win it.
30:03Snap.
30:04Sam come from the hole.
30:05Kick on the way.
30:06Kick is long enough.
30:07It is good!
30:09We're going to the AFC championship game!
30:16Throughout the playoff run, that was the most exciting win immediately after the game.
30:24The word I would use is wonderment.
30:27It was wonder.
30:29How did this happen?
30:30Not because we were lucky, but because we didn't quit.
30:35And we just kept fighting.
30:36We just kept believing.
30:37And it worked out.
30:39We found a way to win the game.
30:40It was just so reinforcing.
30:43Denver showed us that the impossible is always possible if y'all believe in the same thing.
30:49No weapon.
30:50No weapon.
30:51No weapon.
30:51No weapon.
30:52Yeah, no weapon forces against us.
30:53Y'all prosper.
30:55Yes, sir.
30:57Falcons game.
30:59And I saw the play where they stopped the Falcons on the five-yard line to win the game,
31:04and they were going to the Super Bowl.
31:06And it kind of hit me.
31:07You know, my brother's going to the Super Bowl.
31:09And behind that was, can't let Jim go by himself.
31:12The rematch is a time-honored tradition in sports.
31:16Champion versus challenger.
31:20In 2011, the Ravens lost the AFC title game in heartbreaking fashion.
31:27Flacco fires end zone.
31:28Caught!
31:29Oh, no!
31:31He dropped it!
31:32They rolled it in to hold on to the ball!
31:35A 32-yard field goal attempt with 15 seconds left.
31:41The season on the line.
31:48Pass gets dropped, kick sails wide left.
31:51We had it right there in our hands.
31:53And the thing that you realize is the days are long, but the years are short.
31:58And who would have thought, after 365 long days, we'd be walking into that stadium in what seemed like, one
32:08day later, just like that, to play that very same team with the very same stakes.
32:12Take a look around!
32:14Take a look around!
32:16We've been here before!
32:18We've been here before!
32:20But now it's our time!
32:21We walked into a locker room and said, throw away the key.
32:25Lock the gates.
32:27Tonight they won't get out of this one.
32:54We were jabbing and punching and throwing shots, and it was going back and forth.
32:58But we all knew, going into halftime, that the fight style was going to have to change.
33:05Guys, we've got to get something going on offense.
33:07I mean, we can't play this kind of game.
33:09We've got no chance to win this game.
33:11We've got to start the basketball.
33:12Moving the ball.
33:15We're moving up on first down.
33:17We're just giving Joe's hands, you know?
33:20I was definitely a little bit disappointed about how we played in the first half.
33:23I was getting ready to, you know, say, come on, man, we've got to get going here a little bit.
33:27But the good thing was is that everybody came into the locker room with that same mindset.
33:31John, Jim, myself.
33:32I didn't have to say anything because it was said before I even got the chance to.
33:36You guys ready to roll?
33:37Yeah.
33:37It's time to roll.
33:38Yeah, yeah.
33:39It's time to roll on offense.
33:40Let's go.
33:40Let's playmaker time.
33:41We changed our style.
33:43We went from Joe Frazier to Muhammad Ali.
33:46We opened it up.
33:52Flacco's being a stud right now.
33:54Sitting in the pocket, delivering strikes.
33:59Cool.
33:59There's a cucumber with the game on the line.
34:03Unfazed by pressure.
34:05Unfazed by coverage.
34:09Flacco to throw.
34:11Fires to the end zone.
34:13Touchdown!
34:14Got his pilla!
34:18Flacco, lob, end zone.
34:21Fulton, touchdown!
34:23Joe Flacco starting to make the move into the big boy league.
34:28Before you know it, you look up and we're up by a score.
34:31It kind of just happened really, really quickly.
34:33And it almost had a certain comfortable feel to it.
34:38The Ravens' defense made sure the Patriots' offense was anything but comfortable.
34:44We was hitting them.
34:46We was hitting them.
34:47The game became physical.
34:54Inside handoff.
34:56Ridley's to the 45.
34:57Oh, big hit!
34:58Ball came out!
35:00Ball is loose!
35:01And the Ravens have recovered!
35:06That was the moment where we recaptured our defense.
35:10The Ravens' defense.
35:11And it wasn't just that play, but Bernard in that play kind of encapsulated the whole thing for us.
35:17That's who we are as a defense.
35:19Finister.
35:31The Ravens outscored New England 21 to nothing in the second half, avenging their defeat from a year ago and
35:38earning a trip to New Orleans.
35:41And the Hayes in the barn!
35:44The Ravens are going to the Super Bowl!
35:47Power!
35:53From 79 to 2018, nobody else beat the Patriots at Foxboro twice in the playoffs.
36:07The Ravens not only did it twice, they blew them out twice.
36:16No matter what they did as a team, that was our night.
36:20That was our night.
36:22Hit them!
36:23That's a big time, baby!
36:24Come to New Orleans, man!
36:26Let's go get it!
36:27At some point, I definitely thought about the fact that we were going to, as a team, have to beat
36:31Peyton Manning and Tom Brady to get to the point where we want to be.
36:35I think that makes it a little bit cooler, you know?
36:38Arm ball ball, baby!
36:39Let's get it strong, DT!
36:40Let's get it strong, DT!
36:41Let's get it strong!
36:42You know, it was a moment of, man, you know, we're going.
36:46You know, we did it.
36:47Come on, DT!
36:59You know, it was like we were back and we were playing in the, we had a game, the Sheriff's
37:03All-Stars versus Domino's Pizza when we were in high school.
37:05And my brother played for the Sheriff's All-Stars, coached by my dad, and I played for Domino's Pizza, which
37:10was the other team.
37:12And there was a lot of hype for that game, too, man.
37:14It was huge.
37:14It was a big game in Ann Arbor.
37:16And we came out with a 1-0 victory in the game.
37:19So, it was a lot like that, you know?
37:22It really wasn't much different.
37:23The journey ends when we get done.
37:27The journey ends in 60 minutes and three and a half hours.
37:31That's when the journey ends.
37:33We ain't finished it.
37:35That's what we came for, right?
37:37It's a big stage, but it's a small field.
37:40We're going to play in a football field.
37:41And all we need to do is what we do.
37:45Joe Flacco and the offense picked up where they had left off in New England.
37:53Good job!
37:55We had seen it on tape that that kind of play had been open against those guys down in the
37:59red zone.
38:02Green Bay had actually scored a touchdown on the exact same play.
38:05We just stole it from him and re-ran it, and it was wide open again.
38:09As soon as he put his foot in the ground and jumped over the top, the guy was beat.
38:15Blacko threw three touchdown passes in the first half.
38:20Woo!
38:24Blacko!
38:27Wow, Dennis Bitter's really coming up big in these playoffs.
38:32Maybe you should go dig him up out of retirement.
38:36He scores playoff touchdowns.
38:40Blacko went to the freshman.
38:42Steps up to the pocket.
38:43Throwing deep.
38:44He's got the Kobe Jones open at the 10.
38:46Jones makes the catch.
38:47He's not top.
38:48Bounces up.
38:49Spins out of one tackle.
38:51Running at the left pass mark.
38:53Lunges in.
38:55Touchdown.
38:56Rybin.
38:57I had to step up big time.
38:58I, like, threw it on the run.
38:59And I just kept running.
39:03Two games.
39:05Two games.
39:08Continued at the start of the second half.
39:18When he ran that kickback, I was like, wow.
39:22I think we're going to do it.
39:23I think we're going to do it.
39:25You don't think, oh, my God, we're going to win the Super Bowl.
39:27What you think is that now we've got a big lead and we need to play a certain type of
39:31a game,
39:31a field position game.
39:32And we were on our way to doing that.
39:34Stop them, baby.
39:36Stop them.
39:37The league tried to screw them and turn the lights out.
39:43Never happened before.
39:44Never happened since in the Super Bowl where the lights conveniently go out.
39:52When one team is blowing out the other.
39:58I'm here.
40:05He had just gotten sacked and the clock had stopped.
40:08And I'm like, why is the clock stopped?
40:10Why is the clock stopped?
40:11There was a lot of time left in the game, but I'm already worried about the clock stopped.
40:15Why is the clock stopped?
40:18Oh, you know, it was kind of, I don't know what to think.
40:22It was just crazy.
40:22With 1328 left in the third quarter and somehow a massive outage of power in New Orleans Superdome has put
40:31this game on hold.
40:32I'm not going to accuse nobody of nothing because I don't know facts.
40:37But you're a zillion dollar company and your lights go out.
40:42No, no way.
40:44A zillion dollar company?
40:46Ain't no way.
40:47Now listen.
40:48If you grew up like I grew up.
40:52And you grew up in a high, lights might go out.
40:54Because times get hard.
40:57I understand that.
40:59What you cannot tell me, somebody wasn't sitting there and when they say the Ravens about to blow them out,
41:06man, we better do something.
41:09We're going to win this game no matter how long it takes.
41:11No matter how long it takes.
41:12There's no weapon.
41:16I don't care.
41:18The league's been screwing the Baltimore over for since about 1965.
41:24So I wouldn't put it past how conveniently the lights are going to go out.
41:30It's billions, billions of dollars you're as an organization making for the biggest game of your sport.
41:39Come on.
41:43Not even a power outage.
41:45That's a huge shift in any game in all seriousness.
41:49And as you see how huge it was because it let them right back in the game.
41:54The 49ers scored three touchdowns in a little over 12 minutes.
41:59This is what the Ravens feared coming out of that half hour outage.
42:04The Ravens' lead was five.
42:06With less than two minutes to go, San Francisco had fourth and goal.
42:11Keep them out, we win, Dean.
42:12Let's go.
42:14One play.
42:15One play.
42:17One play.
42:18To hold them with this city, with this team, what you are known for, which is defense.
42:25I tell everybody, give me one play.
42:51Unable to run out the clock, Baltimore took a safety, leaving one final play.
42:57We have four seconds left and we have to cover a kickoff after safety to win the Super Bowl.
43:01So it's not over yet.
43:03Are we going to win this?
43:04Yeah, the game's over if we cover this kick.
43:07We don't make it easy, do we?
43:08No, we don't.
43:09At that point, I pretty much realized that we were going to win, but I was kind of still like,
43:14are we going to win this?
43:15Are we really going to win this?
43:17If he starts to break it, go tackle him.
43:19Really?
43:20I don't know.
43:21I mean, what else?
43:21I don't know.
43:22I mean, they might be able to give him a touchdown on that, but I don't know.
43:24I'm not on my day, sir.
43:25Hey, if he breaks it, if he busts it for some reason, go tackle him.
43:31I don't know what the rule is on that, but I will.
43:34I'm going to.
43:35I mean, what does happen?
43:36You know, nobody's ever explained it to me.
43:38I'm sure they give the guy a touchdown anyway, but, you know, I was joking.
43:44I was half serious, but, you know, really just joking.
43:47I would never run on the field and tackle the guy.
43:52Let's get him down.
43:53Let's get him down.
43:55Get him down.
43:56Get his tackle.
43:57The Baltimore Ravens are Super Bowl champions.
44:12It's a situation where guys jump on each other and they fall down to the ground after a team wins
44:23a Super Bowl.
44:25They happen to be walking across since my brother.
44:27It's not just another coach.
44:29So, you know, a little bit of empathy goes a long way, and it was pretty easy for me to
44:34put myself in his shoes in that moment, you know, for a moment.
44:38Congratulations.
44:39I love you.
44:39Congratulations.
44:40You too.
44:40Good job.
44:42It was a hard game for them to watch, and when it was all said and done, they felt happy
44:49and they felt sad at the same time.
44:51You made this all happen, Mom, for both of us.
44:53There are no losers.
44:55There are no losers.
44:56There are no losers.
44:57I love you.
45:04You're up there and you're kind of just so excited.
45:06Your family's running onto the field, and then all of a sudden somebody whispers in your ear,
45:10Hey, do you see your car over there?
45:12What's your car?
45:15I get a car?
45:17Do I really?
45:18Oh.
45:20I get a car!
45:23I'm like, wait a sec.
45:25You know, it's just one of those things you don't think about.
45:28Well, uh, but I'll take it.
45:42Hey, baby.
45:43Don't get any better than this, my man.
45:45Hey, baby.
45:47Go!
45:48For me, to win like that, to leave the game like that, there's no other way I will write
46:05the end of my story, the end of my story.
46:08No other way.
46:14It wasn't pretty.
46:16It wasn't pretty.
46:16It was, uh, it's the end we ever did, well, you know.
46:18That's the beauty of it.
46:19That's the beauty of it.
46:20That's the beauty of it.
