01:41We've been around the longest now, Troy and I. You know, we are the longest tenured Patriots on the team
01:46now, and I like to think that I've helped form the Patriot way.
01:50It's who I am. It's how we conduct ourselves, and I don't want to experience any other team's way.
01:57To get two or three years, I guess, I need more basis to get the pinky field.
02:05As night fell on New England, one question remained. Could the Patriots win a third Super Bowl? Could they become
02:13a dynasty?
02:16Football history was calling, and history is head coach Bill Belichick's favorite subject, thanks in part to his father, Steve
02:25Belichick, a longtime college scout and one-time professional fullback.
02:32The history of his dad, he was the equipment guy with the Detroit Lions or whatever, and they asked him
02:37to come out and play for the team, and he ended up probably being one of their better players.
02:41Steve Belichick, number 30, scored three touchdowns in 1941, his first and only NFL season.
02:51Six decades later, he watched son Bill enter his 30th NFL season.
02:59He really made it a point to try to stay out of the way.
03:02You know, he knew what everybody was trying to do, the work that we were all trying to do on
03:06the sideline.
03:06And, you know, he's taken a couple big hits. Otis Smith ran over him at the end of the 96th
03:11season.
03:14Despite the inherent dangers, Steve was on the sideline for the Patriots' first two championships.
03:21I'm getting used to leave.
03:23I had a safe place for him back there, Mark, so I don't get knocked down.
03:29Getting knocked down was exactly what the 2004 Patriots needed.
03:35Everybody in this entire region was telling the players how great we are, and everything was just great, great, greater.
03:42And really, the only person was me telling the team that we've got to work on this, we've got to
03:48work on that,
03:48this won't be good enough, that won't be good enough, and don't worry about what everybody else is saying,
03:53because it really, it won't be good enough.
03:57A lesson learned in a preseason game against the Bengals.
04:03At the end of the first quarter, I think they'd already scored three times, like 21 points.
04:08So I took the starters out and put the whole second team in for the second quarter.
04:12You pulled the first defense out after their second touchdown. Was that a message to be sent to them?
04:17Well, they weren't getting much done.
04:19We were all sort of mad about that. It sort of pissed us off a little bit.
04:25What Bill does is, later in the second half, he puts us back in.
04:29I told them at halftime, you're playing the second half and into the fourth quarter,
04:33and if you're going to play like this, then, you know, we need a lot of work.
04:37And they beat the crap out of us again, you know, and I think it was a big wake-up
04:42call that we weren't as good as we thought we were.
04:45The next week in practice, no player wanted to see Coach Belichick headed their way.
04:52When you get the head coach coming up to you and asking you a question, it's can you think on
04:57your feet?
04:57What's going to happen if the offense jumps offside?
05:00Sorry, safety.
05:02Safety?
05:03Ben jumped. He did not win.
05:05Okay. What's going to happen if the offense jumps offside?
05:08It's the dog days of camp, which every team has to go through,
05:11because that's how you build the strength of the team is to go through those tough times.
05:15And, you know, Matt Light came up to me, and he's kind of trying to butter me up, you know,
05:19and say, well, Coach, you know, if we had a night off and got a good night's rest,
05:23boy, we'd practice better, and we'd have fresh legs and a lot of energy and all that.
05:28I said, well, here's what we can do.
05:30We'll put you, you know, 45 yards away from the punter, and we'll punch you a ball,
05:34and if you catch it, I'll give you the night off.
05:37And if you drop it, then we do 30 extra sprints, so it's all on you.
05:50And Light came up with it, you know, barely, but he got it.
05:55And that was probably one of the happiest moments of the entire season.
06:04The Patriots' first game of the regular season doubled as a coronation.
06:13The circus is in town, as Coach Belichick says, yeah.
06:16The banner's going to be dropped.
06:19They even put these patches on our jerseys saying Super Bowl XXXVIII champions,
06:24sort of reminding us of last year, which is what we were trying to forget.
06:28As is usually the case, Colts versus Patriots provided a memorable finish.
06:35Third down and eight for the Colts at the Patriots' 17.
06:40Manning out of a shotgun takes the snap.
06:43Here's the rush by Willie McGillis.
06:45He snags it.
06:47A dynasty delivers in key situations.
06:52And sometimes hopes the other team does not.
06:59We'll snap the ball down.
07:00The kick is up.
07:01The kick is on the way.
07:02And the kick is...
07:04No good.
07:05No good.
07:06No good.
07:07He misses.
07:08And the Super Bowl champs will make it 16 wins in a row.
07:13No!
07:1616 wins in a row.
07:18Just too short of the NFL record.
07:21Football history was on the horizon.
07:27In stretch line, really.
07:29It's almost like a comedy session, really.
07:31With all the guys that are sort of ripping on each other and making jokes.
07:35You know, I bet them Patriots are going to get crazy if they have practiced.
07:39They're going to go at each other like a tornado.
07:41They did nothing but teeth and fingernails.
07:45There was laughter erupting.
07:46And I just sort of made this sound.
07:48It was sort of an aww.
07:49And they didn't know what I was doing.
07:51And I just went aww.
07:52And I kept going up and up and up.
07:53And then it was like, yeah, right at the end of the speech.
07:55End of the stretch.
07:57And everybody sort of got a kick out of it.
07:59A post-victory tradition was born.
08:02Just one year and then time, fellas.
08:04Out of nowhere, I just came to me.
08:05I just brought everybody up.
08:07And then they sort of all knew what to do because of what I was doing in the stretch line
08:10in training camp.
08:11And it was like, how do we feel about a victory?
08:13How do we feel about a victory?
08:16Oh, yeah!
08:17And that was the beginning.
08:21In 2004, Brewski kept chanting and the Patriots kept winning.
08:36Let's go play action.
08:43Got to be hit.
08:43Sacked.
08:44Bumble.
08:45Ball is loose.
08:46Dicked up by Richard Seymour at the point.
08:50Richard Seymour goes to the defense.
08:53Touchdown.
08:54Big Raiders.
08:57Yeah, really, you know what it is?
08:58It's my dad talking.
09:00Go get the ball, Ted.
09:02That's what he would always tell me.
09:04You can tackle guys and you can hit guys as hard as you can.
09:07But what this game is all about is that ball that they're holding.
09:14You know, what he said has stuck with me for a long time and it turns out the old man
09:17was right.
09:20In week five, NFL history arrived.
09:24And Gillette Steele.
09:26The Patriots have been expecting it.
09:29I think when the schedule first came out, there were a handful of us that got together and said,
09:34How many games do you got to win to break the record?
09:39That NFL record was 18 consecutive victories and it was about to be broken.
09:47Coincidentally, the Dolphins franchise held that record previously, I think.
09:51And they broke it against the Dolphins.
10:15And the Pats will become the first team in NFL history to win 19 consecutive games.
10:23How do we feel about 19 in a row?
10:25No!
10:31The Patriots weren't just winning.
10:33They were now rewriting history on a weekly basis.
10:42Fires it long and deep.
10:43That's a good answer.
10:44And he's got it.
10:45A five-year pass.
10:53That's down.
10:54Corey Dillon.
10:55He bangs it in and puts it in the bank.
10:5820 in a row for the Patriots.
11:00Five in a row this season.
11:08It all comes down to this at Gillette Stadium.
11:11Three in a row.
11:13Back to throw.
11:14Pennyman.
11:15Conference looks.
11:16Fires.
11:17End zone.
11:20And it is incomplete.
11:22Broken out contended from the Cairns.
11:24And the crowd of Foxborough giving the Patriots a tremendous ovation as they make the New York
11:31Jets their 21st consecutive victim.
11:34A new National Football League record and one that could be a long time in being broken.
11:43We realized that maybe the Jets should have drafted Brady instead of Pennington because
11:51they were in the same draft.
11:54Acknowledged that we had done something that had never been done before.
11:57But, you know, there's always that but in there that it didn't mean anything this year.
12:02Were we Super Bowl champions with winning that game?
12:05No, we weren't.
12:09The Patriots knew that sooner or later, the streak had to stop.
12:16The place was Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
12:22The quarterback was rookie Ben Roethlisberger.
12:26And the result was shockingly unfamiliar.
12:30Timing pattern.
12:31Let's go to the end zone.
12:32Flex for the nine.
12:33Flex for the touchdown.
12:34And Peyton Ben is for real.
12:37Hey, Belichick, he's for real.
12:40Straight back.
12:42Pocket collapses.
12:43Intercessions.
12:44Up for him.
12:4435-20.
12:4620-15-10.
12:47And he's gone for the touchdown.
12:49And the Steelers are coming to the Lakers.
12:52We totally got outplayed now, coached in that game.
12:55They just took it and ran it right down our throats.
12:58I mean, it was a total, thorough demolition.
13:01It was really a demoralizing defeat, actually.
13:05I think you really find out about yourself after you get your butt kicked.
13:09We got our butts kicked.
13:11Some teams, that can turn into a two-three game losing streak if you don't turn it around mentally.
13:16I think the attitude that we have in that locker room is, we always come back.
13:21That attitude was in sharp contrast to that of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
13:28I did read about some of the words that they were saying during the game about us never being on
13:34their level.
13:36Elmer, Elmer, Elmer, Elmer, Elmer, Elmer, Elmer.
13:39Elmer, Elmer, Elmer, Elmer.
13:40Elmer, Elmer, Elmer.
13:41Elmer, Elmer.
13:42He was kicking on our level.
13:43He can't get on our level.
13:45At that point in time, what level were they at?
13:47They had.
13:48What had they done up to up to that point if they wanted to celebrate beating us one game during
13:53the regular season go ahead and celebrate
13:57Reminder this team that was not on the Steelers level had beaten them the three previous times they played
14:05So if they weren't on their level
14:08They were probably a level above
14:12We'll be back
14:19Was an offensive captain in his 12th NFL season
14:23There I am sitting in front of my locker before one of the training camp practices and there comes man
14:28genie coming in
14:29Telling me you got some reps on defense today, you know, my heart starts beating fast. I
14:34Was in the meeting room actually and I sort of just look around the room and I look behind me
14:39Like that's Troy
14:41That's true. I look at him. I said, well, what are you doing here? And he says man? I'm gonna
14:46play some defensive back
14:48I said really
14:50Sometimes you get into a situation where
14:53You know, you you do need to do that and I think it's a lot easier to do it now
14:57than it is
14:58You know the day before the game, so I go out to practice and they throw me in for a
15:03few plays and I didn't look too good
15:07I
15:07Thought he had a long way to go. I thought he had to stick the receiver, you know
15:10But I thought with a little bit work and a little bit more coaching. It was possible
15:14But did I ever think you would you would realistically contribute I'd have to say no
15:21Then came week nine in st. Louis
15:25Defensive injuries forced bill Belichick to make backup plans. I
15:30Got that news on Friday that
15:32depending on who we take to the game
15:35We could lose one or two guys and you'd be up and
15:39So on Saturday when we traveled it was down to we lose one guy you're up
15:44Just two plays into the game. That's exactly what happened
15:52We got an injured paper player right on the sidelines there Asante Samuel and the Patriots cannot afford to be
16:00losing any quarterbacks
16:03You got to be kidding me. We talked about this as an emergency will the emergency now is you know
16:08with 59 minutes left to go in the game
16:13Introducing Troy Brown
16:15cornerback
16:17Of course, you know, they start throwing balls that the right at me, so it was
16:22It was like wearing a big target on your jersey
16:25You know I got hit in the face with a couple balls
16:29So I could I could have had one or two interceptions in that game
16:32But you know, I think I held up pretty good
16:35three tackles on defense
16:37three catches on offense
16:41And one remarkable play on special wait a minute. How can you not catch the ball if you're a receiver?
16:48It should be
16:50You all of a sudden can't catch the ball on defense. That doesn't make sense. Your job is to catch
16:56the ball
16:56I
17:00You
17:0322-yard field goal it's after Adam Benetari. It's a fake
17:18No one NFL rules if you walk to the sideline you got to come back inside the numbers and let
17:23yourself be seen by the official and I got the
17:25Referee's attention and like just put my hand up on here, you know and inside of the numbers of course
17:29and
17:30And just tried it off to the side a little bit on the sideline and nobody ever saw me
17:38A surprise to the rams but a familiar play to bill belichick thanks to a childhood spent beside his father
17:45a football scout for the u.s. Naval Academy
17:50The first time I saw the play was in 1962 when navy ran it against the university of pittsburgh
17:54Wayne hardin was a coach and
17:57They called it the sleeper and so we used it my first year at the Giants several times that year
18:03on punt formation
18:04used it in cleveland against the redskins for a touchdown
18:16And then in 2000 used it against the colts here my first year with the patriots
18:27There's pressure just on practice for this play because if benetari isn't able to make that throw in practice
18:34We know belichick won't run it
18:36But every time in practice adam had a good arm and he can get it out to troy
18:39And that set it up and got the thinking in the bills mind that okay. This could be run during
18:43the game
18:46The trick play worked, but it wasn't the biggest surprise of troy brown season
18:53Some things you just don't think are going to happen. I mean troy brown coming in on defense
18:58Let alone troy brown making an interception on defense
19:21I mean I've never seen anybody get so excited over interception that our entire sideline did
19:33Lo and behold he gets two more interceptions and he's tied for second on the team with three picks
19:38I mean, that's how many I got and here's a guy coming over from offense just to help us out
19:41and he ends up getting just as many interceptions as I did
19:44Gets rid of the football
19:46Intercepted by troy brown
19:49Back to throw third and ten pump, big fires, enter
19:52Intercepted troy brown
19:53But troy brown his third pass interception of the season
20:00With his defensive backfield solidified bill belichick could now concentrate on his opponent's lineup
20:07We hadn't played the ravens since I've been here, so we have really had no history with them
20:11But the one player we did have a history on was orlando brown and he was their right tackle
20:17In all my years of coaching. I don't think we've ever had a better
20:23Key than we had on orlando brown on his stance where we could read runner pass
20:29When he was up in a two-point stance
20:31It was it was a hundred percent pass and then when he was down
20:35You know he it was always running and and we had it down cold
20:40So we're getting ready to go out for the game go out for warm-ups and we meet with the
20:44officials
20:45And and get the inactive list and orlando brown's inactive
20:50Broke our heart
20:54Plan B
20:55Send in Teddy Bruce
20:58The linebacker blitz called for me blitzing off the right side
21:02There was a running back to try to block me and I put up put a move on him
21:10There was that
21:11Bowler actually put a good move on Vrabel and then he got his block knocked off
21:16That is that is my dad talking to me again about the ball
21:19Go get the ball ted
21:33Teddy got the ball and with 14 wins the patriots got another trip to the postseason
21:51The new England Patriots entered the 2004 postseason with 14 wins and only two losses
21:59But they would soon be facing another loss
22:01This time on their coaching staff late in the season offensive coordinator charlie weiss
22:08Accepted the head coaching position at his alma mater the university of notre dame
22:14The athletic director called me talked to me about their situation talked to me about charlie
22:19I could tell from the way that conversation went that charlie was had a real good chance of the job
22:23They interviewed him they offered it to him and a job like that
22:26You know, I knew that he would take that and he should take it. It's it's probably the premier college
22:31job in the country
22:32I owe notre dame and the entire family to give him my best
22:37I also owe the new england patriots and the people from new england to give them my best until their
22:42season's over
22:43To charlie's credit he managed his time very well
22:45He continued to put the patriots first even though that probably hurt him to a degree
22:50In what he had to do at notre dame
22:53New england's defensive coordinator romeo crinnell also known as rack
22:58Was rumored for several head coaching vacancies in the nfl
23:03Well me being on the defensive side of the ball shoot if charlie's getting a head coaching job
23:07I know room. I know racks gonna get a head coaching job
23:10That coaching staff there were basically i mean three head coaches on that staff that we had
23:14That's a great advantage to have as a football player when you've got great coaching like that
23:20A great coaching staff finds motivation any way it can
23:25In the playoffs against the colts bill belichick didn't have to look far
23:30I got a call from somebody that said
23:34You know coach, I don't know if you'd really be interested in knowing this or not, but
23:39The colts have called the steelers and they're looking for an extra 1500 tickets for the aoc championship game next
23:46week when they go to pittsburgh
23:48What when I told the team that they didn't really say anything
23:51But you can just kind of see that the hair stand up on the back of their neck a little
23:56bit
23:57If we needed any motivation
23:59The colts already lost to them week one
24:04Yeah, they're they're gonna beat them after they after they just got to rest and the colts had to go
24:09play a wild card game
24:13Very smart very smart
24:19That gave it to us because you're basically coming into our house to play us in a in a in
24:24a playoff game
24:25And you think you're going to come in here and walk over us
24:28It's not going to happen
24:43The play was a screenplay and I sort of read that the way the the linemen action how they sort
24:48of come out that
24:49That they're setting up a wall for a running back on a screenplay
24:52And I read the screenplay was able to beat one of the blockers and then put the hit on dominic
24:56roads and take the ball away
25:09Me taking that ball was sort of taking the hopes and dreams of all these other teams
25:14Especially the indianapolis colts and telling them you're not going to take this from us
25:18We're going to take it from you just like i'm taking this ball from this running back
25:24They ain't got it was symbolic of they don't understand they don't understand what they have to do to be
25:31champions
25:32They don't understand what they have to go through to be champions
25:34And I just took it from them and that proved to me that they ain't got it
25:41Then in the third quarter we had
25:44One long drive for a touchdown and then we got the ball back at the start of the fourth quarter
25:50and had another long drive
25:51An eight-minute drive for a touchdown and I thought that those two drives really defined that game
26:02It was as good of football as played since i've been here
26:10How are the new england patriots going to stop the high-powered colts
26:16That's how
26:20We play that's what we do we don't talk we play you come to foxborough it's going to be stone
26:25it's going to be gold come on in here
26:28You want to say all you want you want to change the rules change them we still play and we
26:32win that's what we do
26:35How are we getting about a playoff victory?
26:37How are we getting about a playoff victory?
26:40Two of the pittsburgh steelers and the late one patriots
26:49They met on this field back on halloween when pittsburgh ended the patriots nfl record 21 game win streak
26:57That last defeat was still on my mind like man the last time we came here
27:02We got our lunch handed to us. We got our butts kicked
27:04You know, we're going to have to play great football to win this game
27:08Great football was already in the game plan
27:12Deion branch near side left patriots first possession
27:16Brady on first and 10
27:1748 to give us to cory dillon
27:20Now it's another round of deon branch going to the left the 45 40 inside the 35-yard line to
27:25about the 44
27:30The patriots didn't score on their first offensive play
27:34They waited till their fifth
27:38time time time shoots it long and deep deon branch he's got it and he's gone touchdown
27:45Tom Brady watches a 60-yard bomb and he just tippy-toed into the end zone
27:58It's now time to give rookie ben rosslisberger a lesson in playoff football
28:03We tried to take away the patterns that they were running at the sticks
28:08So if it was third and five they'd have like one receiver at five and then have another guy at
28:1314 or 15 and
28:14We tried to force him to throw into the second level
28:18I remember a few plays out there where I was jumping short stuff like crazy making him pump the ball
28:22and pull it back down
28:23And look for a second option
28:25You know at that point in his career. I know most rookie quarterbacks. I mean, it's not just them
28:28It's been all of them
28:29They look for that first read if it ain't there, you know, they're going to make a mistake
28:36It is intercepted
28:38It is intercepted
28:38Nick Duff and hit
28:39Take six
28:40Now the left sideline
28:44Brocklisberger is eyeballing his receiver all the way
28:48And rodney harrison just played it so cute
28:57The patriots like to get things right no matter how long it takes
29:05It's an end around coming to the other side
29:07It's dion branch branch at the 20. He's at the 15 to the right side of the 10
29:12For the five and in
29:14Touchdown
29:14Deion branch put it in the bank
29:16It's gaining interest
29:17The patriots are going back to the super bowl for the second year in a row
29:23Oh
29:24Oh my god, baby, we're going back
29:26Oh, yeah
29:28These guys are awesome
29:29These are the best players
29:32Oh, these guys are good
29:35This was the greatest patriots team of all time
29:38This was an all-time great team
29:42How do we feel about being a AFC champ?
29:45Oh, yeah
29:52The dream of a third super bowl in four years was approaching reality
29:58Teddy brewski and teammate roman pfeiffer could not avoid it
30:03You try to suppress success and you take it one game at a time
30:06But come on, you're still going to think about it
30:08You know, I still thought about it
30:09You know, five still thought about it
30:11And we sat on that plane and five told me
30:13Hey brew, you know
30:15If we win this year, they'll call us a dynasty
30:18A dynasty
30:19And I looked at them and I said, yeah
30:23A dynasty
30:29Le Steve traveled with the team
30:32How you doing?
30:35I remember seeing him before pregame warm-ups
30:38And he was sitting out there with the commissioner and other people on the sideline
30:42That he had come in contact or knew one way or another
30:45I saw my first football game in 1924
30:51It's a long time ago
30:53In all those years, it's doubtful he ever heard a pregame speech quite like the one his son gave
31:01Before the Patriots played the Eagles
31:07Let me just read you a little something here
31:08I thought this was kind of interesting
31:10At first I thought it was
31:11I couldn't believe it, but it's actually true
31:14Talking about the Philadelphia parade after the game
31:16All right, it's 11 o'clock in case anyone want to attend that
31:20It's going to go from broad street up to washington avenue past city hall
31:25Then down the bench in the franklin parkway
31:27And we'll end up at the park museum
31:31You know
31:33We read the Philadelphia team this confidence that they could just come in here and beat the Patriots like that
31:41Really? Terrell Owens?
31:44If I find out it was his idea
31:47It's his fault
31:49But I'm pretty sure it's Philadelphia bravado
31:54Bravado that they were going to come in and beat the Super Bowl champions
32:01That to the team and you know just to let them know how things were going to be you know
32:05what
32:05What the Eagles are going to do on tuesday and what they had planned schools are going to be open
32:11Okay, and the eagles will be in double-decker buses
32:17And the willow grove naval air station is going to fly over with their jets too
32:23If you're interested in that
32:25If he wanted to get a rise out of us from the little parade route
32:28He'd get a little rise out of us and then level us off level us off about still what we
32:32had to do to win
32:33You know basically this is the way they're planning it
32:35They're planning the victory parade the game's already won
32:39How do we win the game? How do we get that done? And it's do your job
32:43Do your job
32:47Do your job
32:48Just take care of your assignment know what it is
32:53execute it and get it taken care of
32:56This is over six months now. We've been working with this
33:00And today you've got a chance to do something very special
33:04It all comes down to your performance tonight
33:08Do your job be physical and you'll be champions again tonight
33:12Okay, good luck tonight, man
33:40The Patriots took the field ready to make history
33:44Luckily, they didn't follow their head coach
33:48Run across the field and I get to the other side and and i'm thinking you know
33:53There's the eagles team doctors and a couple security guys
33:58And i'm thinking to myself what are these guys doing on our bench
34:02And I turn around and look and of course there we all are standing on the other side
34:05And i went to the wrong bench
34:10All right zero slot out 74 quick east land on one ready
34:14Sense of direction is much easier when tom brady is leading your offense
34:34The play was designed to go to fourier you know we practiced it on uh on friday and fourier is
34:40was going to come up and stop at the goal line
34:42And then kind of wheel and catch the ball in the back of the end zone for a touchdown
34:45Which is the way it worked out in practice well on the play brady comes back and fourier falls down
34:52So there's his primary receiver on the ground on the goal line
34:57And then he looks out the branch and branches double covered
35:01So tom goes outside to gibbons who had kind of cleared out as an outlet receiver and and david made
35:07a nice catch there on
35:08The sideline touchdown it was a great example of brady keeping his eyes downfield and then making a nice throw
35:27Bill belichick's pre-game message had worked and he wouldn't let his players forget it
35:33Let's spend a little more time
35:34Puffing on our job and less time jawing and pushing them okay just do our job and get on to
35:41the next play
35:44Or in troy brown's case many jobs and many plays
35:49He lined up for 21 snaps on defense caught two critical passes
35:54And became the nfl's all-time leader in super bowl punt returns
36:01Terrific fun jason brown back at the 16-yard line near side
36:15Yeah, the gas still talk about that one, you know, it's probably one of the best ones even though I
36:18didn't score and it's one of the best ones they've seen
36:22Such is the patriot way
36:24Troy brown played three positions linebacker mike rabel caught a touchdown pass
36:32Just doing their job
36:36When you're waiting for your third lombardi trophy time can't move fast enough
36:44The clock playing a big big part of this game now shows 526
36:50When we took the field on that series we told our players you know they're going to go two minute
36:54now
36:54I mean they need two scores so we're expecting them to go at a fast pace
36:59But the eagles never ran their hurry up offense
37:04Time's a wasting under four minutes left
37:07I think they're being a little too casual with the time a little too cavalier
37:11I remember on the sidelines saying
37:14We're ahead by 10 points, right?
37:17I mean do I have the score right?
37:19Because I don't you know, sometimes you just
37:22Draw a blank
37:24I'm expecting to break the huddle and i'm expecting the eagles to be right behind me
37:28But they're still in the huddle the seconds are ticking away
37:31I look to the guys and say
37:33I don't know what they're doing but uh
37:35This is the defense we're running and when they come and line up let's play it well
37:38I wasn't going to say hey donovan you might want to hurry this up, you know
37:42You know nobody never really figured it out and then you hear the rumors coming out
37:46After the game, you know that donovan was dry heaving or whatever it was in the huddle and throwing up
37:50Then you figured out that was the problem
37:52The eagles were slow, but also successful
37:57Back goes mcnab
37:58He fires for the end zone
38:01Leaping reception for a touchdown
38:03And there's life
38:05And there's life
38:10Could the patriots become a dynasty?
38:14The question had lingered throughout the entire 2004 season
38:20Here was the answer
38:2517 seconds away from back-to-back world championships for the patriots
38:49It was a great moment to be able to just you know hug charlie and romeo there at the end
38:56We kind of knew we'd never be together again and and what a great way to end it
39:01Superbowl 36 and super bowl 38 were last second field goals so I said this time i'm getting bill
39:08I'm gonna get it
39:25You turned around after I did it he didn't see me at first so I grabbed him by the coat
39:29I turned him around gave him a big hug
39:38The 2004 patriots played for moments like these
39:44Celebrating three superbowl titles in four years
39:48But moments even great ones don't last forever
39:54They played every they beat every team they played during that season
39:58Any loss they avenged it
40:01First month and a half of 2005 was pretty good for me
40:04We won the afc championship in pittsburgh
40:06We win the superbowl in jacksonville
40:08I go to my first pro bowl
40:11A day and a half after i'm home after the pro bowl
40:13I'm in an ambulance going to mass general
40:15I've suffered a stroke overnight
40:18The boston globe now reports that he apparently suffered a broken blood vessel in his head
40:25Teddy bruski is spending his second night here at mass general and hospital officials are hoping it's his last
40:30He could be released as early as tomorrow and that's good news for his legion of fans
40:38I think that that taught me a lot about how it all can be taken away from you very quickly
40:45All of us are faced with adversity in our lives. I mean it can it comes in a lot of
40:49different forms
40:50Look on a personal note on a personal note. I coach this game today with a heavy heart. My dad
40:56passed away last night
40:57And uh, so i'm gonna have to attend to some some things personally
41:07I'd like to dedicate this ball give it to bill in honor of the memory of his staff
41:13All right
41:20The silver lining it
41:23Silver lining is steve belichick saw his last spent some of his last years on earth seeing his son
41:33have the peak of success
41:37Their season started with a historic winning streak
41:41It ended with a third super bowl title
41:45And it showed that dynasties still exist
41:49The patriots are proof
41:53back to back three out of four
41:57Yes, it's a dynasty
42:01You can be a super bowl champion that that wins an individual super bowl or you can be one of
42:05those teams that are always
42:07Associated with being the best you know and with being the best they use the word dynasty
42:12They used it for the stealers. They used it for the cowboys and the niners and the packers
42:19When they used it with us
42:21And it makes us proud
42:24We were one of the best teams ever if not the best and i'd put us up against anyone
42:29And I know that's impossible to do you know because teams have come and gone
42:33But if you ask me the best team ever to play in this league has been the new england patriots
42:42That's not ridiculous to say that
