00:00Thank you for joining us.
01:30We bow it forward.
01:32But Seattle's remarkable display of heart ended in heartbreak.
01:38Just short.
01:40Seconds with no timeout.
01:42It's going to come down to this.
01:43Snap.
01:44Spot.
01:45Kick is on the way.
01:46Kick is long enough.
01:48Season is over.
01:51Watch their magic carpet ride end in Atlanta.
01:55We should have won that game.
01:56I expected the team that lost to Atlanta to win the Super Bowl.
02:00Myself and Earl Thomas sat there in the locker room for about three hours after that game
02:04and just would never lose again in the playoffs.
02:07We'll punish whoever gets in our way.
02:09When you know you're the better team, it hurts a little more.
02:11So our team was just disappointed in that.
02:14Man, great effort, man.
02:15Unbelievable season, guys.
02:16We're going to win the Super Bowl next year.
02:17Get your mind around it.
02:18That's right.
02:18Here you go.
02:19Hawks on three.
02:19One, two, three.
02:20Hawks.
02:22We end up losing that game.
02:23But I also remember realizing that, man, we've got a great future.
02:27And I remember leaving that locker room, being by the bus and telling Coach Carroll,
02:31and he said, you know, when I was walking off the field, by the time I got to the tunnel,
02:35it already hit me that we're going to the Super Bowl next year.
02:37He had flipped it before I got to the locker room, and it took me another couple hundred steps
02:42to get there, but more power to him.
02:44Russell Wilson was only a rookie.
02:46Who could have imagined that after just one season, he'd be showing the resolve of a veteran?
02:52Unlike the Seattle Seahawks' unnaturally boyish head coach, their babyface quarterback
02:57is old at heart.
02:58He is an old soul.
03:00You can see it when you talk to him.
03:01You can see it in his eyes.
03:02Nice and windy.
03:03Good old Seattle weather.
03:04You can hear it in the music that he listens to.
03:07Oh, brother, brother.
03:10You listen to Al Green all day, and he's going to be like, oh, Al Green, that's my boy.
03:14That's my boy.
03:16He's like a throwback, you know?
03:18He grew up, his whole life with him, he was 13 or 14, and then the rest of it, he's
03:23just
03:23been older than everybody else.
03:24Scouts believed his best prospects as a professional were in Major League Baseball.
03:30I started playing baseball when I was three years old.
03:32I actually probably say maybe baseball is my first love, but I also realized that I had
03:36this passion for the game of football.
03:38At 5'10", he was dismissed as too short and was an object of ridicule when the Seahawks
03:44drafted him in the third round.
03:45Maybe Russell Wilson will grow, Mel.
03:47Maybe he'll grow another three or four inches.
03:50Maybe he's a late bloomer.
03:51It rains a lot in Seattle.
03:53It usually makes things grow.
03:55But by the start of his second year, Wilson had grown into the quarterback of a Super Bowl
04:01contender.
04:02The Seahawks that everybody says is going to be so great this year, they're going to prove
04:06it on the field today.
04:07Kerr's making it!
04:10Touchdown, Seahawks!
04:15Against the team that had represented the NFC in the last Super Bowl.
04:19These two teams, they don't like each other.
04:22All week long, everybody kept saying this is the game of the century, right?
04:26These guys just say, you know, this is the next game and it's got to be a championship game.
04:31Treating every game like a championship game is the mentality here.
04:35That's what keeps us from having the lows and the ups and downs of the season.
04:39We go out there to play every game like if we lost, we're going home.
04:42We're all we got!
04:44We're all we got!
04:45We're all we got!
04:53We're all we got!
05:07If they would have treated it like a regular game like we did and treated it like a championship
05:10game, they wouldn't have been that surprised, but they expect us to lose somehow, some way.
05:17He's going to let one fly down the near side.
05:20Richard Sherman!
05:22The Seahawks are knocking at the door again.
05:39That's a guy who understands what team he's on, you know, you get a special feeling when you
05:45understand your team is the best team out there.
05:50Pete Carroll had built a team that was the perfect representation of Seattle.
05:59They said it was an afterthought, you know, we didn't get a lot of media attention, nobody
06:04came to see Seattle, nobody would, you know, bring their ESPN cameras to see Seattle.
06:09Before Carroll, which is weird because since joining the NFC, they were a very good team.
06:18Seattle was known for Starbucks, salmon, and when it came to sports, disappointment.
06:23The Seahawks had only been to one Super Bowl, and came up short.
06:27Pass interference, number 82.
06:29Oh, that was a tick-a-tacking call.
06:31In 2001, baseball's Mariners won more games in a season than any other team in baseball
06:37history, but failed to reach the World Series.
06:39It was so sad to know manager Lou Piniella and his players wouldn't be dressing in uniform
06:45for a game six.
06:47The Supersonics were Seattle's only franchise to ever win a world championship, but they no
06:53longer exist.
06:54This is an experience we'll probably...
06:56My face cam died.
07:00And, uh, the songs are coming back.
07:03You arrived in Seattle in 2010.
07:06He inherited a 5-11 team.
07:09I loved my time in college football, but always I had, you know, a thought that maybe it could
07:15come together in a manner that would give me the chance to do things the way I would
07:18like to do it, and it's come together.
07:20Carroll had been the head coach of the Jets and Patriots, but found most of his success
07:26as the head coach of USC.
07:29I wanted to see what would take place if we did it exactly the way we did it at SC.
07:33Let's put together a football team of guys that love playing the game, that we can look
07:38after.
07:38He believes in positive synergy.
07:40He believes in uplifting other people and bringing everybody together.
07:43Let's go kick it up.
07:44Kick it up.
07:45Look how sweet we look today.
07:48Pete has found a healthy balance of fun and energetic.
07:52What was the last thing you were playing?
07:53Fort Knox.
07:54Fort Knox?
07:55Fort Knox.
07:55That's who they are?
07:56Yeah, yeah, yeah.
07:56Cool.
07:57But also focused and dedicated to what we do.
08:00He's 63, going on 24.
08:03Coach Carroll's birthday today.
08:07Happy 25th birthday, Coach.
08:10You would never think he was as old as he is, second oldest coach in the league.
08:14In his first year, Carroll began creating his own culture, making an astonishing 283 roster
08:21moves with general manager John Schneider.
08:23We were freewheeling.
08:25John was going forward at every turn, every opportunity.
08:27We were bringing guys in and out of here.
08:29If you look and project like the next year or the next year, if we're able to keep these
08:33guys together, I don't know how, I don't know how we can't be really good.
08:37It's a bunch of guys with chips on their shoulders, undrafted, fifth round, sixth round, third round,
08:43who nobody wanted, who just intend on punishing this league.
08:46The rest of the country was taking notice.
08:49It was impossible to overlook the way Pete Carroll Seahawks won football games.
08:55When you practice as hard as we do, when you do everything we do, the extraordinary plays
08:59become ordinary.
09:02There was the beast quake.
09:03Lynch left side, finds a little bit of a hole, keeps his legs moving, he's across the 40,
09:08midfield, 45, he's on the wrong lynch, 40, pushes the man, 35, look at him go, he's down
09:14to 20, 15, he's a goal, he is going to go, touchdown Seahawks, oh my word.
09:22And the fail marrying.
09:23And now Russell Wilson is going to be looking at the biggest play of his young pro career,
09:28a fourth down and ten, with eight seconds remaining.
09:31Now he's going to roll, now he's going to stop the set, back to the point, he's flying to
09:35the end zone, he's going to give this guy a chance, going up, coming down, he's going
09:39to be tough down with it, just going to take down, he's going to be a three, he's going
09:43Well, I think it gives us a belief that any play can be the best play we've ever made.
09:48When we go into a game, we're not shy about it, we're going to go attack it and be in
09:51attack mode all the time.
09:54That was just a trash can call.
09:57Here we go, let's be great.
09:58Play fake, Wilson rolls, still rolls, in the front corner of the end zone, touchdown Seahawks.
10:06Play fake to him, Russell's going to roll right side, has all kinds of time, looking, looking,
10:10going to throw to the end zone.
10:12Leaping to make a reception, touchdown Seahawks.
10:17Hiya baby, woohoo.
10:20The Texans lead 20-3, here in Reliant Stadium in Houston.
10:28Again, the Seahawks knew this was going to be tough sledding.
10:31The Seahawks win with high drama, because they are tough to beat.
10:35Seattle hadn't lost a game by more than a touchdown in nearly two years, and they weren't about
10:41to start against the Texans.
10:43Wilson rolls, right side, look, look, look.
10:46He's going, he gets the first down, running to the near side.
10:51Russell Wilson has taken this offense on his back.
10:55Here goes Marshawn, he's going to walk in untouched.
10:58And we've got ourselves a ball game in Houston.
11:01Motion is the tight end.
11:03Seahawks turns, blitz is coming.
11:05Seahawks got to get rid of the ball and pick up.
11:07It's Richard Sherman.
11:08He's going to go down the far sideline.
11:10Are you kidding me?
11:11They have come all the way back and scored 20 unanswered points.
11:15And by next season, Matt Seahawks will be known as pick six man.
11:21Tie it up here in the fourth quarter.
11:23We knew what side of the field they liked to run it.
11:25We knew what side he liked to move to.
11:27So we knew the play was coming.
11:29And I had intercepted it three times in practice, and I intercepted it once and again.
11:3545 yards.
11:36This is for the ball game.
11:38Perfect snap.
11:39Kick is up.
11:40Kick is long enough.
11:41The kick is good!
11:44It's good!
11:46The Seahawks win it over time in Houston.
11:50Oh my word!
11:51This may be one of the greatest comebacks in the history of Seahawks football.
11:59That's what championship teams do.
12:01They find ways to win, even when it's not looking like they're going to win.
12:04It's that belief, that hope, that trust factor that we have.
12:10The Seahawks won seven of their first eight games.
12:15Richard Sherman is here!
12:16He makes the interception!
12:18I couldn't believe he threw it.
12:19I guess he didn't read the scouting report!
12:26Turn out the lights.
12:27I think the party's over.
12:29It all comes down to this.
12:31Here comes the blitz.
12:32Over the top to throw.
12:33The ball is incomplete!
12:34The game is over!
12:35The Seahawks defense!
12:37Easy by heart!
12:39Different music.
12:40This is not football music.
12:41I don't know that I can take another one like that!
12:43It's all about who's willing to go further, longer.
12:46And if they're willing to have that kind of dogfight, we'll taste our blood and keep smiling and keep fighting.
12:53Right now, trailing 21 to nothing.
12:56Okay, here we go, boys.
12:57Let's see what we can get going right here.
12:58Let's go!
13:00Golden Tate is deep, and this is a rocket.
13:02He comes out to 10, 15, 20, 25.
13:05He's breaking free, 30, 35.
13:07Comes back, far side, breaks two tackles.
13:0940!
13:10He's still on the run, big field.
13:11Here he comes, 40, breaks another!
13:14My God, what a run!
13:15My goal is Tate!
13:16Woo!
13:17Woo!
13:19It's not the way you start, and it's how you finish, you know, and it's always been that way.
13:23People say, we've got to get off to a great start.
13:24I think that's a bunch of bunk.
13:26Russell Wilson had engineered six fourth quarter comebacks, and down 24 to 17, with less than two minutes remaining,
13:34the Seahawks found themselves in familiar territory.
13:38Touchdown, Seahawks!
13:39We're going to go to overtime.
13:40We have a lot of great players who understand moments.
13:43If we were a basketball team, and we had five guys out there, we'd probably have five guys willing to
13:47take the game-winning shot.
13:48Nice shot, let's go, let's go, we ain't done yet, we ain't done yet.
13:51Marshawn Lynch, he is just pounding this Tampa Bay defense.
13:5627-yard field goal attempt to win the game.
13:59There's the spot, the kick is up, the Seahawks win!
14:02They come back from 21 points down, the largest ever comeback for the Seahawks.
14:10How do you almost lose to Mike Glennon?
14:13That's what I want to know.
14:15I tell you, I'm emotional about it.
14:18You competed so freaking hard, you would not take it.
14:21You would not take that as a loss.
14:22You would not let that happen.
14:24You just freaking didn't.
14:27I don't handcuff lightning and put thunder in jail.
14:31I do model my game after Muhammad Ali.
14:32You know, he's not a football player, but I like the way he carried himself.
14:35I like the way he spoke.
14:36Never talk about who's going to stop me.
14:38Well, ain't nobody going to stop me.
14:40He was the innovator of I'm the greatest.
14:42I said that before I knew I was.
14:44I did it one more chance.
14:46Who's the greatest?
14:47You are.
14:47I like his work ethic because work breeds confidence.
14:51And some people are humble, and humble people lose a lot of times.
14:56Richard Sherman is...
14:57Hey, Russell Wilson learned a lot.
15:01Your quarterback's humble.
15:03He's not humble.
15:04He brings the noise both on and off the field.
15:08Get your weak ass off the field.
15:10Get your weak ass off the field.
15:11Go home.
15:12Go home.
15:13You're never going to the playoffs.
15:15You're never going to the playoffs.
15:17He definitely is a trash talker, but in a way that he backs it up.
15:24Looks like he lays it out over the top.
15:25And it's intercepted.
15:28You're the best one in the field.
15:29He's the best in the business, and it makes him very special.
15:33I'm glad he's on my team, that's for sure.
15:36Sherman may talk a lot of trash, but his idol is a man who collects it.
15:41Well, my dad still drives a trash truck, and he works for the city of L.A.
15:45And in the inner city, you can either go one of two ways.
15:48You can go to the gang violence and be a criminal, or you can go through sports and work hard
15:53and do your best to make it out and make better of yourself.
15:57I've done it all my life, so it was to provide for my family.
16:02It really instilled a work ethic in us.
16:03My dad would go to work eight hours and then come home and then build a den for the house
16:09and not complain a bit.
16:14Compton, California.
16:15I mean, what can you say about, if you've ever heard of it, what can you say about Compton?
16:21You know?
16:22Don't know how far it is from L.A., but, you know.
16:26Compton, California.
16:31Yeah, it's rough.
16:32What can you tell me about here?
16:38You guys strong enough?
16:39You need to lift a little more.
16:43Yeah, I was bored in that game.
16:45When you don't get the ball thrown at you very often, you get bored.
16:47And I was bored.
16:48I was basically a waste of my time.
16:49I would have been better suited sitting on my couch.
16:53Brother, I know he's talking trash and all this stuff.
16:57They have Adrian Peterson and no quarterback.
17:01Why would they throw the ball?
17:05Come on, man.
17:08They don't get much bigger than this one.
17:10The two best teams in the NFC with the best records.
17:12What a way to settle on Monday night.
17:14The 12th man here is ready to go.
17:39The 12th man gets every victory.
17:42They were there my rookie year when we were 7-9, and we weren't doing as well.
17:46And they were just as loud and proud then.
17:48After Monday night, the 12th man had plenty to be loud and proud about.
17:52There was no question which team was the best in the NFC.
17:55Four teams straight here at CenturyLink Field as they go to 11-1.
18:04Oh, that's rough.
18:06They ripped them to shreds.
18:09And the Saints are the gatekeepers.
18:11Were the gatekeepers after they had their Super Bowl run.
18:16If you can't beat them, you can't get out of the NFC.
18:22I've been saying to you for a long time, you ain't done nothing yet.
18:25Well, tonight we did a little bit of something.
18:36How do they got the nickname?
18:37I'm not sure.
18:38I guess they're just always bringing the boom.
18:40You know, I'm trying to still figure it out.
18:41I thought it had something to do with the music box or something for a while.
18:43I didn't know what it was.
18:44That nickname came from the fans, and the fans just kept shooting out names.
18:48Four Horsemen, the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, this, that, and the other,
18:52and Legion of Boom was the one that stuck.
18:54L.O.B. L.O.B. 3-1-3-9-29 and me.
18:58We expect and want the best for one another.
19:02Who's got my best?
19:04Who's got my best?
19:05Who's got my best?
19:06Who's got my best?
19:06So this Legion of Boom is right on it again.
19:09It is so hard to throw the football over the corners of the Seahawks.
19:13They jump up and make plays on the ball in the air.
19:16L.O.B.
19:17I ain't never seen a quarterback who can deal with the L.O.B.
19:21Somewhere in my rookie year, I tipped one to Cam.
19:24Ball is tipped up and intercepted.
19:32Ball's tipped up in the air.
19:33Bad it, bad it, bad it.
19:34Still tipped.
19:35Is it picked?
19:35It is.
19:36The Seahawks picked.
19:37Alert the Legion.
19:39The Legion of Boom traveled to the East Coast, where they made a Manning look ordinary.
19:44Intercepting the two-time Super Bowl champion five times.
19:48Manning to the throat.
19:49Ball is intercepted.
19:51Richard Sherman comes down with the interception.
19:54Wolves throws over the middle.
19:55Ball is picked off by Ravaxwell.
19:57They're going to let it fly to the far side of the end.
19:59So ball is slapped up in the air.
20:01Intercepted.
20:01You don't think about shutouts when they're happening.
20:03You just go out there and keep playing hard.
20:05Then you look up, you know, when the clock strikes zero, and then you see a zero next to
20:09their name, and you smile.
20:11The Seahawks had plenty to smile about.
20:13It was their first trip to New Jersey this season, and they hoped it wouldn't be their last.
20:18Exactly.
20:19What have we done?
20:20All the main focus here.
20:21We're always trying to find ways to be better, and I always meet with my sports psychologist
20:26guy, Dr. Gervais.
20:27You know, me and him talk a lot.
20:29I'm going to measure your brain and the electricity around certain parts of your brain.
20:36It's the competitive environment of guys just pushing each other to the limit every day
20:40and really allowing their potential to show.
20:43That's a testament to Pete, is always compete mindset.
20:47And it's crazy.
20:48You can't spell compete without Pete.
20:49It's kind of, yeah, I think there's something there.
20:54By December, the Seahawks were cruising.
20:58The hardest practice we ever had is more competitive than this game going to be.
21:02It's as simple as this.
21:04And we owe them, man.
21:05We owe them twice.
21:07We play them.
21:07They beat us.
21:08Down the stretch, they faltered.
21:11They lost to their arch rival.
21:13The seven-game win streak for Seattle Lugues.
21:16And even though they intercepted Carson Palmer four times,
21:20fires to the end zone, ball picked up, ball is intercepted in the back of the end zone.
21:25Their 14-game home winning streak was snapped by the Arizona Cardinals.
21:29Ball is wobbled, ball is caught, and it's a touchdown for Arizona.
21:33And the Seahawks now not able to clinch home field advantage and not able to clinch the NFC West.
21:41It was the first home defeat of Russell Wilson's career, and the slumping quarterback didn't take it lightly.
21:48I always say there's no time to sleep, but that night there was really no time.
21:51I just woke up, you know, around 3.30 in the morning.
21:55Probably got to the facility around 4.15.
21:57I was in here watching film, and the coach ended up coming in.
21:59So we sat down and just watched the game together.
22:02And I said, I remember when I played baseball.
22:04You know, some days you just go 0 for 4.
22:06You know, some days you just swing and miss.
22:08I think it's just one of those days.
22:10You know, we don't have to panic.
22:11We're still a great football team.
22:20In the season finale, the stakes were high.
22:24The NFC West title and home field advantage throughout the playoffs.
22:28That man Smith, he's in the 20, 15, 10, 5, he's going to score.
22:34Surely that's Malcolm Smith's last pick six of the season.
22:39Surely.
22:40Right near side, got Tate.
22:41Make the tanner.
22:42Did he get in?
22:45Seahawks already have no playoffs.
22:48Everybody's coming here this January.
22:51When you're winning at home in Seattle, there's no better feeling.
22:55From CenturyLink Field, it is the NFC Divisional Playoff matchup.
23:00The Seahawks hosting the New Orleans Saints.
23:02The Saints believe the Legion of Boom could be intimidated
23:06and trying to bully the Seahawks during warm-ups.
23:09The Saints are going to come in with a lot more aggression.
23:11But they won a playoff game already on the road.
23:13Let's go.
23:14You already know what it is.
23:16If they weren't doing all that, then it would have just been another win for us.
23:19And go on, go on.
23:22Instead, they hyped it up.
23:23And then I think he lost the game before it started.
23:27People are going to talk, and people are going to say this and say that.
23:29Let them talk.
23:30You know, at the end of the day, it's about coming out on the field and playing a great game.
23:47The defense shut out the Saints for three quarters, while the offense unleashed the beast.
23:53It's beast mode.
24:02Now that's what he's still moving.
24:04Tim, five.
24:06Touchdown.
24:07Arshon Lynch has just set a new way off.
24:11Drew Brees never, never says anything about it.
24:15He's not that type of guy.
24:16It's a wonder to think what he could have done if not for his defenses, just getting gassed by the
24:22same guys.
24:25How many times did that happen to them just against the Seahawks?
24:30Where just Lynch ran over them in the playoffs?
24:36It wasn't quite a beast quake caliber, but that was when we knew.
24:41You know, we knew.
24:42Okay, here we go.
24:43Next game.
24:43One down.
24:44One to go.
24:45Whoever it is, they've got to go through the 12th man.
24:49The hell of a first step in the playoffs, but we're just getting warmed up.
24:51We've got a ways to go.
24:52Hey, what's next on three?
24:54One, two, three.
24:54What's next?
24:5660 minutes, the best football of our lives.
24:58Let's go.
24:58This is the biggest sporting event in this city, and I don't know how long.
25:03Fun.
25:04Fun.
25:082005.
25:09Eight years.
25:10What do you mean you don't know how long?
25:12It's not a hard pinpoint.
25:15Uh, date.
25:182005 NFC Championship.
25:21Fun, fun.
25:26Green ankle.
25:29Russell's going to roll left.
25:31He's looking.
25:32He's looking.
25:33He drops the ball.
25:34It looks like the Niners may have gotten on it.
25:37They did.
25:37Russell Wilson fumbles the ball on the first play of the game.
25:41Not the way you want to start.
25:44You know, coming back to the sideline, you know, everybody's like, oh, Russ, it's okay.
25:48I wasn't worried about it.
25:49Okay, we'll come back to it.
25:51We'll come back to it.
25:52Let's go.
25:53Let's go.
25:53Keep going.
25:54He pulled that garbage in the next NFC Championship game, which they still won.
25:59Another 70 plays left in the game.
26:00If I can have 68 to 69 out of 70 to be good, then I'll be okay.
26:08The 49ers took a 10-0 lead in the second quarter.
26:11Breaks out right side, 40.
26:1345, still running midfield.
26:15Colin Kaepernick is taking this game into his own hands.
26:19He is going to be the death of us yet.
26:21Well, they knew he couldn't throw, so we didn't expect him to run their starting quarterback
26:24like a running back, but they did, so now we'll be aware of it.
26:27Everybody just keeps doing things like we always do.
26:29We're doing right.
26:30Nice and poised.
26:31Take your time.
26:33We just got to get back to playing Seahawks football.
26:37Puffay.
26:37Wilson looking.
26:38Still looking.
26:39Kind of scrambling.
26:40Still looking.
26:41Now he's got to take off.
26:42Running back to the left side.
26:43Now he looks.
26:43Now he fires.
26:44Downfield.
26:45Got a man.
26:45Baldwin.
26:46Who makes it?
26:47That play was made by Russell Wilson.
26:50Hey, I think running right at him is the best thing to do.
26:538-6.
26:54Deep pivot.
26:55Oh, more right.
26:55Go get him, Marton.
26:58Wilson turns.
26:59Hands to lift.
27:00Finds River.
27:01First down.
27:01And more.
27:10A 40-yard touchdown scamper.
27:13Beast Mode is alive and well.
27:16Time all game.
27:22Let's go to work all day.
27:23What a man up.
27:24There you go.
27:25Let's go after him.
27:26Good.
27:29Again, it's a knocked down, drag out game here.
27:32The fourth and seven from the 35.
27:35It'd be about a 53-yard field goal for Stephen Hauschka.
27:38And you draw to within a point.
27:42Pete Carroll calls timeout.
27:44He looked down there and he didn't have to look like a guy was ready to kick it.
27:48He was a little hesitant.
27:50I was like, Coach, let's go for it.
27:50Let's go for it.
27:51Let's go for it.
27:51He, you know, our coach is.
27:52He's thinking, maybe we should go for it.
27:54What are you thinking?
27:55I think we should go for this, Coach.
27:56We've been using hard count all day.
27:58He's not right.
27:59Can you go tell every guy?
28:00Every guy in your life?
28:00They're going.
28:01They're just normal ones.
28:02I don't have any problem for it.
28:05Russell and I kind of...
28:09Let's go.
28:11But it looks like the offense is going back on.
28:13They're going to try and go for it on fourth down.
28:18The Hawks took a chance with their second-year quarterback.
28:23Fourth and seven from the 35.
28:26Somebody steps into the neutral zone.
28:29On the snap and a free play.
28:30Throws it for the end zone.
28:35It is caught for a touchdown.
28:39Are you kidding me?
28:42What a free play throw to the end zone.
28:46Offside by the Niners is declined.
28:50And the Seahawks score.
28:52You talk about rolling the dice right there, Steve.
28:55Pete Carroll showing a lot of nerve and a lot of confidence in his young quarterback.
29:00Come in there and make a fall like that.
29:02I can't let him take that off.
29:04And the Seahawks...
29:06Besides, we'll see it next episode.
29:08People criticized Pete Carroll for this and Russell Wilson for that.
29:12The next season when they lost the Super Bowl.
29:15It was their gutsy decisions that helped them win the Super Bowl in the first place the previous year.
29:24People don't get that.
29:29Let's take the lead for the first time today.
29:32It's 20 to 17.
29:34Hey, they're about to try me.
29:36Hey.
29:36They're about to try me.
29:37I'm a capitalized.
29:38You're going to win.
29:40You're going to win, man.
29:41You know, I was sitting on the sideline.
29:43I was like, okay, well, this is it.
29:45You know, let's see what happens.
29:46You know, I'm the type that just believes in something good happening.
29:50Get your hands on what you do, bro.
29:52This is what you do right here.
29:53All right?
29:55Hawks need a stop.
29:57Niners need to go home.
29:59We need to go to the Meadowlands.
30:02Fourth down and two.
30:04He looks.
30:05He looks.
30:06Now he scrambles left side.
30:08Still looks.
30:08Now he throws back.
30:09The ball is caught by Gord for a first down.
30:12Locks still moving.
30:131-15 and counting.
30:14Gord and throws far side.
30:16Ball reach out.
30:17Catches.
30:18Down to the 30-yard line.
30:20This crab tree.
30:21Looks down the middle.
30:22Fires.
30:23Ball is caught.
30:24Vernon Davis inside the 20.
30:26Seahawks lead by six.
30:28The Niners are threatening.
30:30If you're going to try to go for the game and you're really going for it and you know who
30:35the main culprit is, who's going to say something to you after the game, then you got to go for
30:40it because then it could shut me up.
30:41But then if you miss, you don't get to shut anybody up.
30:45Then you have to just shut up.
30:4740 seconds to play in the game.
30:49The Hawks need a stop.
30:52They need a takeaway.
30:54Shotgun for Kaepernick.
30:55Takes a snap.
30:56Would they ever test, in my opinion, a top 10 corner all the time at his peak instead of Brandon
31:03Browner?
31:05I don't know.
31:07Looks.
31:07Fires near side.
31:09Going for the end zone.
31:10Oh, that's right.
31:11Is it picked off?
31:12It is.
31:13It's picked off in the end zone.
31:15The Seahawks, it was sent to be the end zone.
31:22They stayed away from Richard Sherman all day long.
31:26They went over to him at the long possible time.
31:29And Richard Sherman made them pay.
31:32That was good.
31:33That was good.
31:35That was good.
31:37He thought that was going to be a touchdown, too.
31:38So that would have been his third touchdown in three years against Seattle Seahawks.
31:43So that would have been a feat.
31:45But it was his seventh interception against Seattle Seahawks.
31:49And once again, at the end of the game, trying to throw a fade to Crabtree.
31:52It's like two years in a row, your season ends the same way you would think he would learn.
32:05But that was a great moment.
32:06The Ravens didn't even have a Sherman.
32:09They had, like, Jimmy Smith on Crabtree in that bowl.
32:15And then Crabtree being a poor sport.
32:19Come on.
32:19It was a great moment.
32:21And it is at that instant when you realize, okay, we are going to the Super Bowl.
32:25Hey!
32:26Hey!
32:28Let's go!
32:29Let's go!
32:29Let's go!
32:33The Seahawks are NFC champions!
32:36We're going to the Super Bowl!
32:38The second time in Seahawks history, we're going to go to the Super Bowl.
32:42Let's go!
32:50Ever since I was four years old throwing the football around with my dad and my brother,
32:54it's like, man, I've worked at this, you know, and we're going to the Super Bowl.
32:59The very next thing that seemed to happen, still in the midst of the competitive moment,
33:05was, you know, Richard got interviewed.
33:08He reacted in the warrior mentality he was in.
33:11Richard, let me ask you, the final play, take me through it.
33:16Well, I'm the best corner in the game.
33:17When you try me with a sorry receiver like Crabtree, that's the result you're going to get.
33:21Don't you ever talk about me.
33:24A few minutes later, Russell Wilson did an interview of his own,
33:29except he was the one asking the questions.
33:33Russell Wilson on stage along with Terry Bradshaw, the great Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback.
33:40Well, when I walked on stage, I didn't know he was going to be on stage necessarily,
33:43but as soon as I got on stage, as soon as I saw him, I was like,
33:46God, I asked Terry Bradshaw, you know?
33:48Hey, I got a question for you.
33:50What do we need to do to win it?
33:52It's different.
33:52What do we need to do to win it?
33:53What makes you win it?
33:55You know what?
33:56You've got to be really cool.
33:58Don't let the moment catch up with you.
34:00You've got to play the game down.
34:01If you build it up, it's so important you'll screw it up.
34:06There's a reason why he is there, and I was able to ask him.
34:09You know, anytime I see a Hall of Fame type player or a Hall of Famer,
34:13I always try to ask him, you know, what makes you so great?
34:19Terry Bradshaw forgot the most important detail.
34:22You have to have 10 Hall of Fame players.
34:29What made you so great?
34:31What made your team so great?
34:32What separates you from everybody else?
34:34I don't want to give all the details because I don't want everybody to know.
34:40I could have been playing baseball right now.
34:42It feels pretty unreal, doesn't it?
34:44Yeah, it's pretty amazing, man.
34:46Going to the Super Bowl.
34:49Let's go win it, though.
34:50Let's go win it.
34:50Let's see you, boy.
34:51I knew they were going to try you, too.
34:53I knew it, too.
34:53I knew it.
34:53We got Frank Sinatra playing.
34:55That's what I'm talking about.
35:05Good game, man.
35:07Love you, man.
35:08Love you, baby.
35:09Love you.
35:12It was all anyone was talking about.
35:14But I would rather see a little humility in Richard Sherman.
35:18That loudmouth from Seattle sort of epitomizes the Seattle team to me.
35:22I think it's too much.
35:24To me, it was kind of embarrassing.
35:26Kids are watching this.
35:28Even the president weighed in and...
35:30Oh, my God.
35:31Oh, my God.
35:31Sean Madden.
35:33Love John Madden.
35:35Who doesn't like John Madden?
35:36Look, your defensive backs decapitated people.
35:45All Sherman did was talk.
35:48And that's after Crabtree muffed him after he tried to give him a handshake.
35:55Come on.
35:57My sense is he's taken a page out of Muhammad Ali's playbook.
36:01I think he said that explicitly, which is, this is a good way to get attention.
36:05You just got to take it with a grain of salt.
36:06It's like throwing a pebble at a mountain.
36:09It really doesn't bother me.
36:10When you try the best corner in the game with a mediocre receiver, that's what happens.
36:14If you've never been in the game and you've never had to feel that up and down, that roller
36:19coaster, then you would never understand.
36:21So it's easy to understand why people wouldn't be able to comprehend the amount of emotion
36:26and passion that goes into the game.
36:28It was unfortunate and uncomfortable, and people didn't know how to take it.
36:32But that's as real as the league can get.
36:35Everybody wants to know what it's like on the inside.
36:36Well, you just got it.
36:39From MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, it is Super Bowl XLVIII between the
36:44Seahawks and the Denver Broncos.
36:46For their teammates, for their coaches, for the 12th man, it is their time.
36:51It is the Seahawks' time.
36:55Peyton Manning, I even went to his passing academy when I was a young kid and watching him
37:00all the years that he's been phenomenal and the highest of his game, and their offense
37:04is just prolific.
37:05And I want to invest in NFL history.
37:08That didn't matter for us.
37:09Personally, I was very confident.
37:12Hey, at the beginning of the year, I asked your boys, why not us?
37:15We're here for a reason.
37:17We're here for a reason.
37:18And let's go prove tonight.
37:20I feel this energy, bro.
37:21I just get a special, bro.
37:23They don't like them like us.
37:25We're special for a reason.
37:27We're not like everybody else.
37:28Stick to who you are.
37:29We know who we are.
37:31That's why we so good, bro.
37:33Nobody in the world can beat us, bro.
37:40Ladies and gentlemen, the NFC champion, Seattle Seahawks.
37:58One of the greatest moments of a Super Bowl is going out for the coin toss.
38:04You're walking across, and Peyton Manning's walking your way.
38:06You realize that, man, we're here.
38:08Oh, oh, oh, oh.
38:10Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
38:11Well, Joe Namath actually flipped it a bit early.
38:14Joe Namath, he messed up that coin toss.
38:16Tails.
38:16It's called Tails.
38:18Now, Joe.
38:19I had a quick release.
38:24It is Tails.
38:25We're on the toss.
38:26We got what we want.
38:27Let's go.
38:28Let's go.
38:29The only bad thing about this game is that Champ Bailey didn't get a ring.
38:35I think this was his last game in the NFL.
38:40Look, look at that.
38:41That is on 14.
38:42A ball goes into the end zone.
38:44Oh, oh.
38:47The safety.
38:48The Seahawks are on form on the first snap of the game.
38:53This is 12th man.
38:55They could hear him all the way out here in the Northwest.
38:59We didn't really think it was that loud.
39:01I mean, compared to our stadium, our fans made more of a statement than we did.
39:11The press, they look on paper and say, oh, yeah, he's got a lot of yards and a lot of
39:14touchdowns.
39:15Oh, Cam Chancellor.
39:16Oh, he's really big.
39:18Oh, he probably, he probably can't stop him.
39:22You're not, you're not paying attention.
39:24Man, he steps up to the pocket on the blitz ball.
39:26Sam Ball's intercepted.
39:29To take the lead.
39:30And the Legion of Boom steps up again.
39:34They're on him after he made exception and it was like, we're going to win this one.
39:38Feel open?
39:39It's open.
39:40He got us on the ball.
39:41You was open.
39:42He hit you right between the numbers.
39:44You're the king.
39:44Boom.
39:45Return.
39:45They had the left.
39:46Looks running.
39:47He puts his head down.
39:48He keeps running.
39:48Keep running it down.
39:49Is it all right if we score more points?
39:51Oh, yeah, we can score some more.
39:53Hell yeah, we can score some more.
39:54We don't need some more.
39:55Can we?
39:55Yeah, yeah, yeah, you can.
39:56Moreno on the backfield.
39:57Now he scambles.
39:58The ball is hit as it comes out.
39:59And it's picked out by the Seahawks.
40:01Four sidelines.
40:03Holy cat, Mitch.
40:06Touchdown, Seahawks.
40:11Short kick.
40:12Percy Harvin with the catch.
40:13He's on the run.
40:14He breaks three.
40:14He's at both of 40 to three.
40:16There he goes.
40:17Midfield.
40:17Look out.
40:18He's good.
40:19Look out.
40:19Look out.
40:19Look out.
40:20He's good.
40:20Come on, baby.
40:21Come on, baby.
40:24Take the second half.
40:25Pick up all the way back.
40:27Baby.
40:28I don't believe.
40:30Yes.
40:31Nice to find.
40:32It's like Fantasyland.
40:34Like you're at Disney World or something.
40:36You know?
40:36You're like, this can't happen.
40:37This too?
40:38It's this good?
40:39It's this much fun?
40:41Are you guys even up there yet?
40:43You didn't miss that, did you?
40:48Hilarious.
40:50That's a bad boy.
40:51They tried to kick it away from him, and it bounced right to him.
40:54Hey, Wes Walker say he wanted us.
40:57Demarious say we don't hit you.
40:58Boy, hey, you asked for a storm, you gonna get it.
41:02Super Bowl XLVIII capped a defensive performance unseen in the history of the NFL.
41:07The Seahawks became the first team since the 85 Bears to lead the league in takeaways, points,
41:15and yards allowed.
41:16Don't you ever say you want one-on-one for us!
41:18When you have the best offense in the history of the game, statistically, I think whoever stopped them is probably
41:25etching their names in the history books as well.
41:36How many big plays did Malcolm Smith have to make in the postseason before you get some name recognition?
41:46Man rush by Denver, Wilson fires inside, and Kersh makes the catch, spins out of one, spins out of two,
41:52ten, five!
41:55Touchdown Seahawks!
41:57And Seattle is making it look easy against the Denver Broncos!
42:02Oh, it's so good!
42:04It's so good!
42:06Yeah, we don't want to go home.
42:07Let's keep going, you know, and it's going to end too soon.
42:10About that time, that's when Marshawn took his shoes off, I think, you know, somewhere in there.
42:14I'm good!
42:16I'm good!
42:16I'm ready to pound the record!
42:18Okay, here we go.
42:19Let's go, let's go.
42:23Easy, easy, easy, easy, easy.
42:24Where's he at?
42:24Where's he at?
42:25Where's he at?
42:26Where's he at?
42:26Where's he at?
42:26Where's he at?
42:27Heads up, heads up, heads up, heads up, heads up, heads up, heads up, heads up, heads up!
42:33Hey, Cali!
42:35Hold on, easy, easy, easy, easy.
42:36Heads up, heads up, heads up!
42:43You're Seahawks, Super Bowl 48 champions!
42:47Well said, man.
42:48Congratulations, man.
42:49It's a pleasure, man.
42:50Thank you, man.
42:51It was a surreal experience to see the confetti coming down, to see our team out there,
42:54to see everybody in jubilation to see the trophy and I understand it was Seattle's
43:03first Super Bowl I felt like a stepping stone more than anything we kind of
43:08disappointed ourselves the last year so we call this one the one we should have
43:11won
43:17getting up on the podium and looking to the crowd and trying to find Glenna and and
43:23when I you know when I caught that look you know and that smile it was really
43:28that was it that was the whole moment and the confetti's flying you know in the
43:33family's right couldn't I didn't see she was like the only one in the stadium
43:45and all the extra hours sitting in there in the film and we're studying over and
43:48over and over again throwing extra passes after practice or guys catching that
43:52extra puns it's all worth it in the end and you realize that it was special I
43:56realize that it's a once-in-a-lifetime type of thing and hopefully it'll come
43:59again
44:05Seattle had waited 38 years for a Lombardi trophy and three days after their
44:10Super Bowl win the Seahawks brought one home I'm going to the parade here in
44:15Seattle I mean yeah I don't know there's probably a million people out the 12th
44:19man deserves that but it's one of those things that you never take for granted and
44:24you just want to keep going and find a way to get there again
44:34Jake Tapper don't you ever talk about me like that
44:39I'm the best president in the game
44:43What do you think Richard? Was that good? A little more feeling next time?
44:48Our saying is what's next and we're really sitting there like what's next do we do we
44:53do we play we play another team or is there a European team or something that we
44:56can go play for for another championship and there wasn't there isn't
45:07That speaks a lot fellow players voted Richard Sherman players guys who play the game
45:18well let me tell you we're the best chefs in the game so when you try us with an easy
45:22meal like Santa Cakes and Succotage that's the result you're going to get
45:33The national championship years were really cool too it's really special but this one has
45:39something that connects you with the history of the great league that we that we
45:43coach in and it's kind of the culmination of all those times that you're dreaming
45:47about the moments and the opportunities and it's an extraordinary gift that we
45:51get you know because it's so rare very grateful
