00:03well craig appreciate it as always and first of all a massive shout out to the two new champions
00:09that were crowned over the weekend because last night we watched the carolina hurricanes get it
00:15done game six with a three to zero shutout against the vegas golden knights capturing
00:21their first stanley cup in what 25 years i think the last time was when rob brindamore was actually
00:28a captain on the carolina team back in 2006 i believe and then you've got an even bigger shout
00:37out happening to the new york knicks who pulled off another ridiculous second half comeback to capture
00:42their first nba championship in what 53 years yes madison square garden was rocking in and around
00:53new york was rocking and those fans deserve every bit of it but we also have to talk about the
00:59adult
00:59infant crisis that is facing the future of the nba right now because while new york is celebrating and
01:06rightfully so yeah we've got to talk about the man who is supposed to be now the future face of
01:14the nba
01:15that's victor webbing yama who showed us another level of immaturity and unlikability throughout this
01:22entire postseason run and look i get he is only 22 years old and he has probably been told that
01:29he's
01:30the greatest thing since ice cream his entire life but what makes you an adult and a true leader of
01:35men
01:35is how you carry yourself through adversity and all we saw from this seven foot four alien was a whole
01:43lot of crying and a whole lot of dirty play because it started in minnesota when he elbowed nas reed
01:50into
01:50oblivion it continued into the western conference finals when he checked out in a blowout loss to
01:56literally order the rest of his teammates to go out watching game two disappearing the second half of
02:03game four and of course scoring less than 20 points in an elimination game but his play came so close
02:09to being declared reckless on multiple occasions he was intentionally fouling brunson coming down on
02:16guys legs and relying on cheap shots because well he just couldn't handle the defense and the grit of
02:22the new york knicks and the league office just continues to make excuse after excuse for him but the absolute
02:30kicker is what happened at the end of game five when the buzzer sounded and his team officially lost
02:35the finals you think wendy hung around to shake the hands of the players that just beat him nope he
02:42beelined
02:43it right back to the locker room like a spoiled child and then he has the nerve to sit in
02:48the press
02:48room and tell the reporters that the spurs dominated much of the series and likely should have won
02:53yeah i get it check the scoreboard you got bounced out in five and adam silver needs to figure this
03:00out
03:00who is going to be the next face of the nba because lebron he's preparing for his fell rail tour
03:07and
03:07because if this is the guy that is supposed to champion this league the nba could be in major trouble
03:15here wendy's got all the talent in the world but he has a long way to go craig before he
03:20becomes a real
03:21leader of men keep an eye on what the nba does here in the very near future and that's where
03:27we
03:27begin on today's show with the knicks winning the championship uh joe raneri we're gonna have to pull
03:32some old videos of him when he was 22 i'd hate to see those i mean a tough a tough
03:39finish a tough
03:40finish for for wendy and i want to see those raneri 22 year old videos too listen i understand where
03:47you're coming from joe and wendy just just all sour all poor at the end i i can't take any
03:54exception
03:54to that but what i would say is we got to give this kid a little more time to get
03:59his life together
03:59to get his act together and all those things like i mean i mean this was as bad as a
04:05final as you can
04:06ever remember a team having in the way that they lost am i wrong about i mean to have those
04:11leads and
04:11blow them all and you certainly can speak to it more than me because you're watching the games
04:16closer than i am uh i i i i don't feel bad for the player i'm just saying that it's
04:24tough for me to
04:25indict a 22 year old kid going through it for the first time that that's my point am i totally
04:29off
04:29there you tell me you tell me you watch it and i'm saying he's 22 years old he's got a
04:35lot you know a
04:36lot of growing up to do but the problem is my fear is he is surrounded by a bunch of
04:42people are going
04:43to tell him how right he is that's fair that's fair you know this is okay you know the nba
04:48is
04:48supposed to be the adult in the room but they have let him get away with this time and time
04:53again i
04:54don't remember a 19 year old lebron or a michael jordan or kobe sure they were mad and angry as
05:00all
05:01hell they didn't win but they were a lot more uh leader-esque uh than what we saw from uh
05:07from
05:07wendy in these games against the knicks yeah interesting take here that's why we have joe
05:12here to to weigh in at the beginning of the show i gotta defer to joe on a lot of
05:15this stuff too folks
05:16because i'm so wrapped in baseball that uh it's like recap city for everything else for me here
05:22on the show but before we go any further uh let's let's flip the script here it is a monday
05:26we gotta
05:27be positive here the knicks did win the game uh let's hear from let's do this let's hear from
05:33jalen brunson after the knicks win that championship postgame
05:37question is do i let me myself
06:03jalen brunson the knicks uh take the larry o'brien trophy which showed back up on the court for the
06:08first time this year by the way on the floor which i thought was cool as well all right so
06:13uh your
06:13world cup fix for those of you who are into this it's all day long it's all night long several
06:19matches
06:19per day so uh certainly the bet button is going to be very heavy this week i think on that
06:24and
06:25germany starts off with a seven goal win in curacao wow seven goals that's one of the most you're going
06:32to see i would guess joe now i could be wrong i don't think any other country is going to
06:37score
06:37seven goals in a game is that is that fair i yeah no it was impressive but it it also
06:45looked like
06:46maybe karisak threw in the towel there craig a little bit there in the uh in the second half so
06:52it was it was impressive don't get me wrong they were good uh they were even a whole lot of
06:58fun to
06:58watch but at one point that game just got so ridiculous it felt like a lot of guys just threw
07:03their hands up in the air there in the end the u.s open is coming up this week brooks
07:08kepka withdrew
07:09from the canadian open so certainly his return to the u.s open and the pga tour of course which
07:15he
07:15rejoined after bailing on live is in doubt also at roland garros this weekend unfortunately because
07:21all the big names were knocked out we got the worst viewed uh final in how long here 1.3
07:30in the last
07:3020 years wow zaverev uh faced off with somebody named flavio caboli i can pretend to know who that
07:38is joe i'm not going to try and fake everybody out on that one i guess there's a reason why
07:42we want
07:43to watch stars play in our championships yeah especially a year removed craig where i think
07:49we had a sinner and alcaraz and like a 12 set marathon where it was amazing and then like you
07:55said we got some dude named flavio in there nobody's watching yeah james harden arrested in
08:01texas so of course as part of that arrest he will request a trade no i'm just kidding that has
08:06nothing to do with it we'll take a quick break here on the early line we'll be back with more
08:11next
08:11don't go away welcome back to the early line here on sports grid hope everybody's monday is off to a
08:17good start in the city of new york it's off to a great start the knicks are nba champions craig
08:23miss joe ranieri here for the next hour covering everything here with you it's the first time in
08:2753 years that the knicks have taken home the larry o'brien trophy that's a great place to start guess
08:33what the knicks were down again in this game in case you missed it down 10 with eight minutes to
08:37play
08:37this time came back to win and win the championship so let's start off and hear from mike brown the
08:43head
08:44coach of the knicks on taking home the title first of all it's just heck of a win um you
08:52know to have
08:53the fans that we have in new york city and be able to bring home a championship after all these
09:00years
09:00is absolutely amazing it's a surreal feeling i i still i mean i i don't know how long it's been
09:08since that
09:08final buzzer went off but i still don't believe it um i'm pinching myself i'm telling myself to try to
09:15be present all the stuff that i tell these guys every single day i'm trying to do because i i
09:23can't
09:23believe it i'm happy for mr dolan happy for leon rose our players uh our players are great i mean
09:31you
09:31can see it now these guys are fantastic i love them all they had been ready from day one and
09:37not just
09:37our top five but one through 18 have been ready for day one you guys saw we called on different
09:43guys
09:43at different times and every time we called on somebody they stepped up so i love my players
09:50love the organization but more importantly let's go new york let's go new york we can't wait to get
09:56back home to celebrate and meanwhile uh carl anthony towns also one of the stars for the knicks certainly
10:05got himself into some foul trouble but let's not take anything away from cat he was a big part of
10:09the playoff run that got them to the nba finals i don't want to discount him here's cat on winning
10:15it
10:16with two rookies and what that meant um a huge shout out to al horford who gave you know really
10:21inspired
10:22me to do this i got my two rooks up here you know i try to say this is awesome
10:27man this is what it's all
10:28about they get this experience you know it's a it's a lifetime work for me 11 years they got to
10:34see
10:34this in two years and one year for you for real hey that's crazy rookie year man i remember when
10:41i
10:41came in number one pick i thought i had a chance at it i was lying to myself because i
10:44needed 11 years
10:45to do it but you know god is good it's all happening like i said i thought in my first
10:50second
10:50year i would get one you know after having a successful high school and college career you never
10:55know how truly hard it is to get to nba finals um but for them god's time it was different
11:02for all
11:02of us for him it was one year for him it was two years for me it took 11 years
11:05a lot of ups and downs
11:06in my career to get to this point and i'm glad i'm able to provide dominicans around the world with
11:12this moment new york knicks fans around the world with this moment these rookies my young fellow over
11:17here and ariel you know i'm just super happy and excited that this is a worldwide celebration for
11:23everybody all right joe so let's put a bow on the next championship i think it's obviously
11:28fantastic for them i don't think there's any question that they deserve all the credit
11:33uh they were going into the finals the hottest team in the nba playoffs they were scoring more
11:38than any team uh and then kept it going and they had this undefeated streak as well and so i
11:44think
11:44people forget about that maybe taking away from the fact that the spurs blew some of the games yes i
11:50think that is true but the team has to come back and win too i think they can forget about
11:54that
11:54remember if the spurs just flat out blew it and the knicks didn't score the knicks would have lost
11:58as well so uh taking nothing away from the knicks congratulations to them a title well deserved
12:05and it wasn't the you know this wasn't just the series in which they showed that no lead was safe
12:11with
12:11them that if you didn't bury and finish the knicks they were going to come back to haunt you
12:16uh and we saw them do it against you know atlanta we saw them do it against uh the cavaliers
12:23and boy
12:24oh boy they uh they showed it in every way uh in the final so great team unfortunately nobody ever
12:32gave many credit uh it looked like everyone just assumed the western conference whoever came out of
12:39it okc or uh the spurs was just going to steamroll whoever came out of the east and well i
12:45guess that's
12:46why they end up playing the games anyway there craig and the knicks they played better than anybody in
12:52the postseason and now they're champions for the first time in 53 years just crazy to think
12:58yes great for the city and certainly great for the team because the knicks have been one of those
13:02teams through the years that have not gotten over the hump they've gotten close but not won
13:07championships but this time had some clutch players and ended up getting it done meanwhile the hockey
13:12season's also over the carolina hurricanes take care of the stanley cup finals by beating the las
13:18vegas golden knights and they win the championship for the first time in 20 years three to nothing was
13:23the final on uh to the start and then the final was four to two let's hear from jordan stall
13:28who picks up
13:29a stanley cup title oh it's not that's a lot of years i mean i it's amazing i it's it's
13:37just something
13:38i've been going after ever since we got the first one i mean you want to win it again and
13:41again and
13:41again and what a feeling what a battle the boys were grinding today my goodness what so many
13:46individual efforts just to keep the puck out of our net and it was an amazing ride and i'm just
13:50so proud
13:51of these guys what did you look joe a great run for hockey and a great run for the nba
13:56what's unusual
13:57about this time of the year is that generally speaking when these end shows like ours and sports
14:02betting you know prognosticators generally just move their attention all to baseball but this time
14:07around joe we have the world cup and speaking of which germany ended up putting a seven spot on
14:13curacao over the weekend it's the most goals scored thus far in the world cup although i think spain
14:19may have something to say about that later today yeah well yeah that's going to be also interesting
14:25there but heck of a uh start it feels like uh you know germany was kind of the the odd
14:31team out a lot
14:32of people spending so much time talking about france and and england and spain that oh yeah germany has
14:39done pretty well in these world competitions over the years uh and they certainly have some firepower
14:45there so it's going to be interesting to see uh what the markets do with germany next because
14:50well recency buyers could be alive and well with the odds when it comes to germany uh in their next
14:57match so uh keep an eye on them but they're very much alive to do some damage here uh in
15:02the world cup
15:04meanwhile brooks kepka is out of the canadian open and now may not play in the u.s open this
15:11is a
15:12player that of course defected from the pga tour joe and then ended up going to the live golf tour
15:18which
15:18seemingly is you know flailing failing i don't know what's left to say about live golf but they're
15:23probably winding down i guess that's probably fair to say this year we'll find out if kepka ends up
15:28playing in the u.s open this week and father's day of course is coming up sunday it's always a
15:34fun
15:34weekend as well uh joe i guess i'm gonna guess that you're not one of those 1.3 million people
15:40that
15:40watch the french open on sunday i don't know anybody that was maybe greg sussman beyond that i'm not
15:47really sure uh i mean we lost the star power here as the french open you said you made a
15:53great point
15:53last year's french open was like an all-time match at the end but this year uh not as much
16:00on either side i mean even the uh you know the women's side as well a bunch of you know
16:05a 19 year
16:06old i think won it this year that nobody had heard of and yeah the men's side we knew algoraz
16:11was hurt
16:12going in uh we thought sinner uh was gonna be just run away with this and get his first french
16:19open but nope none of that happened uh so this is uh it just goes to show you the star
16:25power might be
16:26lacking a little bit here in the world of tennis finally bad news for james harden james harden
16:34arrested on a weapons charge here joe already going to be going through it and a lot of criticism
16:39for his on the court stuff with cleveland i mean james harden's gonna keep playing as long as they
16:46give him money and they put a jersey on him but man this is a bad start to his offseason
16:51yeah i mean what are you doing you know better than this like what are you doing
16:56harden uh unbelievable but uh okay let's see at least nobody's talking about how terrible you are
17:03in the postseason so i guess there's always that right deflect deflect deflect deflect
17:09and also we have team usa winning their first match at the world cup of course they'll play this
17:14week joe they look great really good and let's hope uh that it continues there because uh have a group
17:23the winner ticket on team usa i gave joe exactly four seconds to break down team usa that's what a
17:30great
17:30host us
