00:00hey guys so over the last 150 years or so Hokkaido has had a thriving timber
00:06industry so apparently it's a sustainable timber industry now so
00:12they've got timber plantations all over the place so they're growing it as fast
00:17as they harvest it so it's sustainable and as we travel around the northern
00:24part of Hokkaido we're seeing more and more mountains of timber and trucks
00:32transporting timber about the place it's amazing is that real mountains of timber
00:40as you can see so obviously due to Hokkaido's size and all the spare land
00:52they seem to have in Hokkaido it's perfect for plantation plantation timber
01:09this one here sorry it's a bit out of focus the camera didn't like shooting
01:13through the trees but we had to get it because it was such a huge area of
01:18mountains of timber it looked like they were chipping all this they had they
01:23didn't have a mill going they had a chipper big chipper going that seemed to be
01:26chipping most of it whether that's just the the bits that can't be sold for for
01:32milling who knows
01:36yeah loads of timber mills
01:43piled up all over the place so this is their busy time of year in winter when
01:47there's two or three meters of snow it'd be pretty hard to get any of this done but
01:51this would be the busy time of year no doubt
