01:08A lott of it is to do with the number of photographs I think and the energy that she brought
01:12today
01:13I think it's fascinating is that there seems to be a Marilyn for every generation like the
01:18photographs that people loved of her in the fifties for example possibly there's very beautiful
01:22sort of studio photographs that seem very perfect aren't the ones that we love now we love the more sort
01:29of
01:29relaxed photographs where she doesn't look sort of perfect they look warm and you know those are
01:34the ones we're drawn to now it almost feels like because they're so the archive of photographs is
01:38so rich that there's so much to delve into and so she keeps it's a gift that keeps giving effectively
01:43I also think that because she died young she's frozen in time and she's never aged she's eternally
01:50beautiful you know this is something that is really really important in terms of how she's sustained her legacy
02:00unlike working on a movie where she wasn't the director and there was an editor you know she had
02:06no control over what was the end product but in photography actually she could make it what she
02:12wanted it to be and she had a really great eye and she was very strategic about how she worked
02:16with
02:16photographers so she knew that she could make sure the narrative was hers when she's working with
02:22photographers and they trusted her like they all talk about how she knew what she was doing so they
02:27weren't sort of doubting her they believed in her so she had a much more positive relationship with
02:32her still photographer than she did with her movie director

03:04i was first introduced to maryland when i was like a five-year-old kid when i discovered a
03:09playboy in my parents room and i waltzed into the living room and opened it up and asked my dad
03:15what
03:16who's this pretty lady and then my mom slugged him in the arm and i said well she's got some
03:21power of
03:21some kind and then i think just learning about her journey and then more about her that it really
03:26fascinated me you know she was this like magical combination of non-threatening
03:32sensuality and just overcoming what she did in her life i thought that was worth kind of continuing
03:37to spread her legacy and so collecting her things will enable people you know to know more about her
03:44because they're curious they want to know what size did she wear and how did she become maryland and
03:49what kind of background what was she like in her personal life and everything and so our whole goal
03:54for this anyway for the whole icon collection is to kind of keep a preserver posterity to let people
04:00enjoy it a lot of her stuff comes from auctions that came out right in the 90s from christie's which
04:12is her original collection that was inherited after her death by the strasburgs her acting coaches and
04:17with the costumes a lot of them came straight from fox right and so the pink dress behind me for
04:22example
04:22was sold for something like 12 dollars from fox to the original owner of the dress it's since
04:27transferred and of course was bought for much more than that but you have to be really careful
04:32because you know people know how to impersonate her handwriting people know how to create things that
04:38look like they belong to her and they're not the original so we do look really carefully at that
04:43there's a lot of different ways we check things but we definitely have to be thorough with maryland
