00:03I want to jump into the Word of God. I love speaking to people who love to hear the Word
00:08of
00:09God. Today, if I had a title for today's message, I would call it, When Even Family Walks Away.
00:17Praise be unto our God. We live in a broken world, and in this world, we face rejection of many
00:27types.
00:27We face abandonment of many types, many forms. We are forsaken oftentimes when we're inconvenient.
00:34That's just the way this life works. It's systemic to this world system, but in a system like this,
00:42it is good to know that our God never forsakes us. Men may forsake us, but God never will.
00:53Let me get into the text today. The Bible says, When my father and my mother forsake me,
01:00then the Lord will take me up. Oh, this text says when my father and mother forsake me. Not if
01:09my
01:09father and mother forsake me. Well, he's basically meaning any relationship. It is not a question of
01:15if somebody will abandon you. If you live long enough, somebody will forsake you in this life.
01:21That's just the way things are. So when my mother and father forsake me, the psalmist uses mother and
01:28father because these are the relationships that are supposed to be there. Oh, they are supposed to
01:34be in our life above any other relationship. And if these relationships can fail, then any relationship
01:40can fail on us. When my mother and father forsake me, then the Lord will take me up. Praise be
01:51God.
01:52He uses a word, then. I mean, that's a transition word. Oh, that's the point where God gets involved to
02:02take me up. When you are abandoned by people, God steps in. Oh, when people think you're
02:09inconvenient, when people walk away from you because you become too much, that's when God
02:15steps in. Oh, so when we are alone, we are never alone. There's a text in Psalms 46, I believe
02:23it says
02:23that God is a very present help in time of trouble. Most people are trying to leave us when there's
02:28trouble around. But God is a present help when trouble is there. You got to thank your God.
02:34God, while everybody's trying to get away from us, God is coming towards us. Ah, I want to give
02:41us a praise for stepping in when everybody else forsakes us. There's a blessing in being forsaken
02:48and abandoned. Don't get me wrong. It is painful to be abandoned. The pain, the blessing is not in the
02:55abandoning. It's painful to be abandoned. It's a grievous to be abandoned. That's not the
03:01blessing. But the blessing is how God responds. Then the Lord will take me up. It is the times
03:08when everybody else steps back that you know that they weren't your true source. Oh, your true
03:14source is revealed. God says, I am your source of your need. Oh, when people step back, the blessing
03:20is in how God responds. God redeems that. It is not when everything's going well in my life
03:26that I've known the most about God. I've learned the most about God. I have learned the most about
03:31God when things were painful, when people backed up from me, when I thought I was never going to make
03:36it. All the hurt and the pain made me draw closer to him. Ah, I learned the most about who
03:42he was.
03:43I learned to be a way maker. I learned to be my rock and my fortress and my shield
03:47in times of desertion, in times of great pain, God will redeem your painful moments. He will take
03:55you up. Then when we talk about taking you up, he will elevate you. What I'm talking about in
03:59elevation is he will show you who you are. That's when you know that you can make it. If everybody
04:05steps away, my, I can make it in God. I'm elevated in my thinking. I'm elevated in my relationship.
04:11I'm elevated in my understanding. He will take me up. He will position me where I need to be.
04:15When all men step away, then the Lord, praise his name, will take you up. You ought to give
04:24your God thanks because this world is an ever changing world and nothing is stable in this
04:29world except God. Oh, he is the only stabilizing force in this world that we know will never
04:39ever shake nor move. Everything else is fleeting. It's an unstable, but our God is a rock that
04:47will take us up when all else fails us. Praise be unto God.
