00:00But for some reason, Joe, Major League Baseball is opposite because the revenue structure is ridiculous.
00:06The richest team in the league, let's just say the Los Angeles Dodgers, can spend as much as they want
00:10to be profitable.
00:11And then a team like the Miami Marlins goes, well, we're in a big city.
00:14But if we spend the least amount, we'll probably be even more profitable than the Dodgers just by being bad
00:20because of the revenue sharing structure that we have with the luxury taxes that are imposed.
00:25That's wrong.
00:25And that's a stupid way to think about it.
00:27So as we look, Joe, coming up this December, the CBA is up.
00:31Major League Baseball owners want a salary cap and a salary floor.
00:35And the fight is on because the players have always told us we will not even go to the negotiating
00:41table if there is a cap.
00:43Yeah.
00:45Like I had said here, we thought we mentioned this yesterday and we were like, wow, they're talking, right?
00:50That's all a good.
00:51No, no, it's not.
00:53Because it's ultimately going to come down to just that.
00:56And nothing else is willing.
00:58Nothing else matters.
00:59Donnie, as far as the players are concerned, nothing else matters except the fact that nothing even resembling a cap
01:06hits this league or hits their pocket.
01:08So everything else can be negotiated.
01:11Donnie, it can probably have an agreement by this weekend.
01:14But that's not what this is all going to decide whether or not we get baseball next year.
01:19The only thing that's going to decide it is whether or not they can come to some agreement on some
01:24sort of cap or no cap or just put that to bed finally.
01:29This might be one of the first times because usually, you know, in the NFL, we always side with the
01:33owners because we just want football.
01:34We don't care.
01:34We just want them to play.
01:35But in Major League Baseball, like, you know, you support the players and what they have.
01:39And, you know, in this political environment, hey, tax the rich and do all that stuff.
01:43Well, yes, the owners are very rich and they need to pay their share.
01:46And we get that.
01:47But in Major League Baseball, in that echo circle, it's always interesting to me where you can have a guy
01:52on your baseball team, Joe, right?
01:54That's like, hey, third year in the league, just trying to make my way around.
01:56I'm making $1.1 million.
01:59And you look across, like, Otani's making 70 here.
02:01And then you look at the units, like, no caps here.
02:03And you go, well, if we did put in a cap and a floor, that means me, who I might
02:07play five years in Major League Baseball, my salary now is $800,000.
02:11Well, I could get bumped up to $3.4, $3.5 million.
02:15And, you know, Otani, you might take a little haircut on $70 million down to $60 million, but spread the
02:20wealth.
02:20I'm interested to see how this goes in the lower rungs.
02:23Because as you said, Joe, rightfully so, they fight against that salary cap.
02:26But we never really talk about the salary cap floor.
02:29And just to put it in perspective, the Miami Marlins, rough payroll around $100 and, let's just, excuse me, around,
02:35like, $70 million, I believe it is.
02:37Well, they would increase their payroll, Joe, basically overnight to $100 million more, which means those guys making $1 million
02:45bump up to $2, $3, and $4 million.
02:47How do those guys vote no on this and say, we like the status quo, even though my team is
02:52never going to pay?
02:53And I'm at the athlete in three to four years with $3 million in my pocket.
02:57And also, oh, $3 million is a lot.
02:59Not if it could be $10 million, Joe.
03:02Yeah, well, that's, you know, Donnie, listen, there's a lot of things wrong with Major League Baseball.
03:08And a lot of it has to do with the ridiculous salaries that they have gotten.
03:13And it's been an issue for how long now, Donnie?
03:15Every CBA, it's an issue, right?
03:17But the owners keep kicking it down the road, kicking it down the road.
03:20And that's why you have the lorries of the world that will win a World Series, then sell the team
03:25the following year, build a stadium, then move, then sell it.
03:28Like, this is what you have with Major League Baseball.
03:32They have tried these workarounds.
03:35But ultimately, Donnie, you kicked the can down the road for decades.
03:39And here we are.
03:40Something has got to change, Donnie, because the owners look hell-bent on calling the bluff of the players and
03:46saying, okay, you don't want to play?
03:48That's fine.
03:49Enough is enough here.
03:51Yeah, I want to call the bluff on this next story from Talking Baseball, Joe.
03:54You ready for this?
03:55Major League Baseball is considering the city of Sacramento for an expansion team.
03:59I'm not even going to read the rest.
04:00I don't even want to spend one more second on my thoughts on Major League Baseball coming to Sacramento.
04:06Are we kidding ourselves, Joe?
04:08Seriously?
04:10Yeah.
04:11Well, I mean, listen, they will be exciting games, given the fact that the ball flies out of there.
04:16But I don't know, it's an outdoor stadium in Sacramento, so we want to play in 101 degrees with stifling
04:23heat.
04:23Like, what are we talking about here exactly, Donnie?
