00:00Saturday in the afternoon, good by NBC and Peacock to get the rights of this,
00:05but it was on like three different places, and the games are going on in the middle of the day.
00:11I feel like, what happened here, Tom?
00:14I feel like they went from trying to make this draft amazing to saying,
00:19bleep it, we don't care anymore.
00:21Very weird for me, man.
00:23Very weird.
00:23And again, when players get drafted, I understand it's different,
00:27and the players aren't showing up because they're young,
00:29and they don't know if they're going to sign or not, and I get it.
00:32I love the draft, and I love the fact that we were able to just watch that on Sunday night
00:38or whenever they had it, and now I feel like people don't even know that the draft happened yesterday, Tom.
00:44What's going on here?
00:46Yeah, it was not great, to say the least.
00:49And to your point, I think it should be handled one of two ways.
00:52Or it should be on Sunday night, because there's no Sunday night baseball.
00:56All the games end at a certain time, which we have a standalone on Sunday night.
01:00And then it's like this precursor that we're seeing the new generation of stars leading into the All-Star Game.
01:06So you have this nice dichotomy of the future stars with the current stars that we're about to see in
01:11the Hard Run Derby,
01:11or you just have it on location at the All-Star Game before the All-Star Game.
01:16So if you have the afternoon, it is a standalone event.
01:19There's nothing on at that point.
01:21Everyone's there.
01:21All the GMs, all the front offices can be there.
01:24And then it leads directly into the All-Star Game, that same concept of the new generation and then the
01:28current stars that we have.
01:29I didn't like the way it was handled.
01:30And to your point, it should be something that they build up.
01:34Granted, the issues of all players not potentially being there, that has to be handled separately.
01:38But it just wasn't great.
01:41Yeah, and I asked a couple questions about this, and my understanding is, and it does make some sense,
01:46is that the teams, Tom, the teams don't want to do it Sunday night and Monday night if they have
01:56a choice.
01:56Because, Tom, think about it for the employees.
01:58This is their break during the All-Star break, too.
02:01And they don't even get one if they're doing it during this time.
02:05So I think that was sort of what happened here is they moved it up to get it done before
02:10the All-Star break.
02:11I love that idea because I'm telling you, these people work really hard on all these clubs, whether it's scouting
02:17and development, whatever.
02:18To give them a break, it has to happen.
02:20But I'm saying move this thing up to, like, the College World Series in June or something like that.
02:24Like, I think you've got to move this up significantly, and it's got to be its own event for me.
02:31Because in the end, and we'll take a look now at who was drafted, and I think it's a special
02:36moment for a lot of these players still.
02:38And I did see the coverage.
02:40I thought it was actually good.
02:41Rock Chalowski was drafted.
02:45And, you know, that was a little bit of a surprise.
02:48Grady Emerson went second.
02:49Lackey third.
02:50Jackson Flora fourth.
02:52You see the list there.
02:53But my fear is in a few years from here, now, Tom, we lost that moment for them.
03:00Now, they'll always have that moment.
03:01I just don't think that these are going to be household names for anyone because no one's going to remember
03:05Travis, Bazzano, or, you know, holding up the card, whatever.
03:08It's done because I don't think anybody knew it existed yesterday.
03:11Very weird.
03:12Yeah, the hype surrounding different drafts is all over the place.
03:17Obviously, you know, NFL up at the top because these players are, you know, making an immediate impact.
03:23Chalowski, you know, won the Spikes Award.
03:26I want to see some of these players, I don't want to say accelerated to the major league level, but
03:30there's always been a disconnect for me for the draft where you have this hype around these players, but then
03:37they won't be there for three, four, five years for some of them.
03:39Some of them are still in high school.
03:41You know, some of them are only 18.
03:42Some of them are not going to make their debut until they're 23, 24.
03:44They're like, oh, that's right.
03:45The team that I root for drafted this guy fourth overall five years ago, and I forgot about him because
03:52he's been working his way through the system.
03:53So there's a little bit of a disconnect between the fans, the players, the teams, everything.
03:58The draft needs to be sorted out in some capacity.
04:00The draft needs to be sorted out in some ways.
