00:00We usually sign with the players. Ah, those owners make too much money. They're squeezing out the
00:05players. Now, what you're getting on social media is that divide now. You know, some people are
00:09going to back ownership. Some people are going to back the players. I'll tell you where the players
00:12always lose in the NFL because we love the NFL so much. And yes, they make good money. We just
00:16want
00:16to see the product on the field. So the owners will cry poor and the players are holding out for
00:20more. And we usually side with the owners. But in baseball, they have the strongest union in sports.
00:25Now they're saying they don't want a cap, but let's hear it out here, Joe. When the cap details
00:29come out, maximum salary cap of 245.3 and a low end of the cap on the floor at 171
00:36.2.
00:37Most teams in the league barely even meet the requirements for the 171. Now me, Joe,
00:41being a fan of the Philadelphia Phillies, my guys spend and I absolutely love it. But for the greater
00:45good of the game, is it fair, Joe, that the Cincinnati Reds, let's call it the Pittsburgh
00:50Pirates, the Marlins, even though they operate as a small team, we'll leave that out, the Tampa Bay
00:55Rays. Shouldn't it be an even playing field where everybody has the same salary cap capabilities?
01:00Because when you start on opening day, the vibe is, man, we got a chance to go to the playoffs.
01:05We might be able to do some damage this year. We might be able to be in control where, oh,
01:09look,
01:09Otani's a free agent. Tampa Bay's got more money under the cap than anybody else. They can sign him
01:13here. Well, Donnie, they can do that now. Stop the madness. They're not going to do that now.
01:17So am I wrong, Joe, for backing the owners in this equation, even though it's going to hurt my
01:22Philadelphia Phillies because they spend over the cap? I just think as baseball wants to flourish
01:27and grow, shouldn't everybody theoretically have a chance on opening day?
01:32Yes, but that's just not the case. I mean, for years, Donnie, we know the small market teams and
01:39listen, the players have gotten away with it because every decade or so, you get a Marlins that wins a
01:46world championship and then, of course, you know, dismantles the team the year afterwards there.
01:51Every now and then, the Royals will win. And you know what happens? The Players Union goes,
01:56see, lease payroll and we won a championship. So there's no reason to have it. But the reality is,
02:02Donnie, everything keeps going up. You've got the Dodgers with unlimited funds now that can spend and
02:10spend and spend. It's just not. And I tell you right now, if the Dodgers win again this year,
02:16Donnie, I have no doubt that if a deal is not in place by the time we get to December,
02:21there will be no baseball in the foreseeable future.
