00:00Oh, the dream is dead. Jack Campbell is not going to be a Dallas Cowboy.
00:05At least not now. And we're going to have to wait probably four or five years.
00:08But he is getting a four-year contract extension, putting him under contract with the Detroit Lions through the 2030
00:15season.
00:16Now, what is interesting, terms not immediately known. We're still waiting to find out the numbers and all of that.
00:23The option for him, if they had picked up that fifth-year option, would have been $21 million, just under
00:27$22 million.
00:29So you've got to think it's not more than that. But who knows? Maybe it's still in the $20 million
00:33average per year area.
00:36I think $21, $21.5 is kind of what Fred Warner is looking at right now.
00:39So interested to see exactly what the number is for Jack Campbell.
00:42But that is a bummer, because I think we were all like, man, if you can find a way to
00:45get Jack Campbell, wouldn't that be fun?
00:48But he's going to stick around with the Detroit Lions.
00:52Number 13. It might have a special place in all of our hearts come the fall.
00:57Well, as right now, it seems like Caleb Downs is going to rock the 13, at least for his rookie
01:01season.
01:01Now, why number 13? We go to the Downs to Downs podcast.
01:05We talked about this a little bit yesterday in our post-Rangers extravaganza.
01:10So if you were tuning in, you heard this.
01:13But here is it from the source himself.
01:15Josh and Caleb Downs. Why number 13, Caleb?
01:17The first person I really seen rocked 13 was, I mean, it was Odell, but like defensive-wise, it was
01:23Malachi Borg.
01:24Shout out to Malachi.
01:25When he was at Bama his freshman year.
01:28Watching that, when I was like a freshman in high school, I was like, oh, that's tough.
01:3113, that's smooth.
01:33And then...
01:3313, not bad.
01:3513, not bad.
01:3618, though?
01:37Nah, it's smooth.
01:37Like, I was...
01:38You can make 13 look...
01:41Like, you can make it shake in 13.
01:42So I was like...
01:43Yeah.
01:44I ain't really...
01:44I ain't really messing with 18.
01:4618 was not it.
01:47I ain't gonna lie.
01:4818.
01:48I had...
01:49Our equipment manager here was like, bro, tell your brother, do not wear number 18.
01:54He was like, I don't care what he does.
01:56He was like, wear 29, wear what other...
01:58Because he asked me what numbers were your options.
02:00He was like, wear 29, wear any other...
02:02He's like, do not wear 18.
02:03He was just like...
02:04He was like, when I see 18, I think of like Peyton Manning.
02:07He was like, so like, I can't even like...
02:08He's like, I can't see a DB in that number.
02:10He was like, don't wear 18.
02:12I was like...
02:13I had a couple of my teammates say, don't wear 18, though.
02:15It was...
02:16And I was like, dang, I'm like...
02:17It was so controversial because there was definitely some people that was like, oh, that's
02:21a great number, da-da-da.
02:23I was like...
02:24No, it's not.
02:25I don't know.
02:26I was like, I'm not wearing...
02:2713, way better.
02:28I ain't gonna lie.
02:29I was like, I'll wear it for rookie camp.
02:31Yeah, but...
02:32Yeah, 13, cool with me.
02:3413, smooth.
02:35I ain't gonna lie.
02:37Shout out to Downs to Business.
02:38And they've got...
02:39You know, you can catch more of that.
02:40They talked a bit about his whole trip with all the other rookies that they just took recently.
02:4713, maybe it'll grow on us.
02:48I still think it's probably just for a year.
02:50And then eventually he gets back to his number two.
02:52But I like the background.
02:53And it's always fun to hear why did a player select that.
02:56And Malachi, good player there at Alabama.
02:59Probably gonna play great in it and probably want to keep it.
03:02Nash did rock the 13-214.
03:03You're absolutely right.
03:04Now, how about this?
03:07Cowboys maybe adding another edge rusher.
03:10I know the morning show was highlighting like Joey Bosa.
03:12There's a player that...
03:13I got some whispers that maybe they were gonna flirt with the idea of this trade.
03:18Nothing ended up happening with that.
03:20Sweat?
03:21Yes.
03:22Yeah.
03:22The Cardinals pass rusher Josh Sweat could end up being a trade or...
03:29It's most likely a trade.
03:30If they do so, they could save $18 million.
03:33And then it's only a $5.5 million dead cap.
03:36He right now is not happy.
03:38He wants...
03:39Possibly wants out of Arizona.
03:40And if you remember, he did play with Christian Parker for that season when they won the Super Bowl and
03:45led Philadelphia in sacks that year.
03:48So I think that was a player that maybe has been discussed even inside the walls there of the Star
03:53and Frisco.
03:53Just nothing materialized with it.
03:55But Josh Sweat post-June 1, especially once you get to these mandatory minicamps, you kind of see what you're
04:02working with.
04:02I think all of us are looking at, yeah, they could still use an edge rusher.
04:05I think that would really impact and help out Donovan Azaraku, Malachi Lawrence, all these guys that I'm very, very
04:12high on.
04:13But still, this kind of eases them in.
04:15It takes a little pressure off.
04:16Add another veteran to that room and a Josh Sweat who knows the defense has had success in it.
04:21And a player that knows the division.
04:23And I'd love to circle the wagons and kick the tires on possibly a post-June 1 trade for a
04:29Josh Sweat.
04:30I'm down, man.
04:31I don't think right now I feel great about what the Cowboys' pass rush is going to be.
04:37I feel like there's a slight chance that Azaraku and Lawrence are going to be amazing.
04:45But I wouldn't bet on it.
04:47So, yeah, get through these OTAs.
04:50I guess, I guess, Azaraku's coming back from a dang hip surgery.
04:55He's getting back into this.
04:56And what have we talked about?
04:57Seattle and Philly.
04:58Yeah.
04:58Rotation.
04:59Deep.
05:00Depth.
05:01Surplus.
05:02I was going to ask you guys this question.
05:05Would you still entertain the Max Crosby trade?
05:11Yes.
05:12Everybody on board with that?
05:13Yeah.
05:14I mean, if I had the health thing ironed out, then yes.
05:20I wonder if you feel like defensively, of all the things that you added, but you still have concerns probably
05:28where at.
05:29You guys just told me you have concerns at edge rusher, right?
05:32Yeah.
05:33Okay.
05:33You have concerns at linebacker?
05:35Yeah.
05:36Yeah.
05:36You have concerns in the secondary?
05:38Yeah.
05:39I'd still like to add another starting outside corner if you could, 100%.
05:43I'd still like to add a veteran at all those places.
05:45I don't think you can have enough depth.
05:46And especially a linebacker, I mean, Overshaw and I hope has a great year.
05:49If they trade for Max Crosby, do you now no longer have any concerns at linebacker or in the secondary?
05:57A little bit less in the secondary, but still at linebacker.
06:04Could Max Crosby be the one player that would make you feel so much better about your defense you wouldn't
06:12worry about the linebacker or the secondary?
06:15Well, I mean, just knowing, like, if he's playing at the height of his powers, he is an outstanding run
06:21defender.
06:21Mm-hmm.
06:22And getting TFLs and things like that.
06:25Yeah, so does that ease the concern on your linebackers and you have a defensive lineman that's now included with
06:31Quinnen Williams that can just be a bit of a game wrecker?
06:34Not only getting after the passer, but also as a run defender.
06:38Yeah, I think that helps things.
06:39But if Overshaw gets hurt, your linebackers, you're going to be up late before games.
06:45A little bit queasy.
06:47Yeah, and I wonder what the asking price would be for either.
06:49Because I'd be very content and feel almost as good with Josh Swett.
06:54Because he's coming off a 12-sack season.
06:56You know that he's productive in the defense.
06:59If Christian Parker signs off and is like, hey, I know the guy, I like the player.
07:03But, I mean, I'd be totally in on both of those guys.
07:06I wonder if Crosby would be like an in-season trade deadline type of move for him.
07:11If we're going to do this, let's go right now.
07:13Let's not wait around.
07:15Let's do this.
07:16Yeah, it's just tough because I think the Crosby injury, now here's how it works out for the Cowboys.
07:20They only have a couple years left of Dak Prescott's contract.
07:24The concern with Crosby is he's not going to be good three and four years out.
07:29Right.
07:29That's why the Ravens backed out.
07:31They felt like he's going to be okay here in 2026.
07:34It's long-term.
07:35This thing is going to take him down.
07:38Right?
07:38So, we have just a couple of years of Crosby.
07:41And when we're making a trade for a couple of years of Crosby, that's more like a late one and
07:47a four.
07:48It's definitely not two ones.
07:50Right.
07:50Two years of Max Crosby, that might be like by the time you get to week eight, depending on how
07:54he's playing, if the Raiders want to sell him, you'd be happy to get one one.
07:59So, right now, the Raiders are in this situation where they would have to take significantly less than what was
08:04on the table.
08:05And it's just hard for them to come back to the bargaining table.
08:08So, I don't think we could get the Raiders to take what his actual value is right now just a
08:13couple of months after having that Baltimore trade blow up in their face.
08:17Yeah, and Sweat, I think, would be about half the contract.
08:20I would definitely try, too.
08:21I would definitely.
08:22I think, to me, that it would make me feel a lot better about the linebackers and the secondary if
08:31you added this guy.
08:32Yeah.
08:32Just because I think he could have that kind of effect as a pass rusher.
08:37Yeah, I mean, he can mask some things that I might not be very good at.
08:41I think it would expose your middle linebackers because it would be coming off the edge so hot that the
08:46quarterback would just be like, where's your worst defender?
08:48I'm going against him again and again and again.
08:51So, it might expose your linebacker situation even worse.
08:55But I think overall would make your defense better.
08:57Yeah, I'd love to be looking into both Sweat, post-June 1, and possibly Crosby, whichever one you can make
09:03happen.
09:04Can I ask a question of, and there was another one I was going to have, would you consider Joey
09:09Bosa a progress stopper with the guys you got?
09:12Somewhat.
09:13He does not move the needle for me as much as those other guys.
09:15I'd still like to have him because, again, I think that it's proven you need just a plethora of pass
09:20rushers.
09:20Right?
09:21I just need guys that I can rotate in.
09:23We're keeping fresh bodies.
09:25And so, I think there is an element of that.
09:29But I still think you need another body in here to kind of help in that area.
09:34Yeah, I mean, I don't know what type of, like, take young guys under his wing personality Bosa has.
09:41But I do like the idea of a veteran guy that can help bring along some of your young guys.
09:46And with Bosa, with Von Miller, you're not talking about a guy that's playing starting snaps.
09:51He is only a designated pass rusher.
09:53I want them on the field for, like, 12 plays a game.
09:57How many snaps do you play in Ezraku and Lawrence and those guys?
10:02Well, Ezraku, I think, should be a starter depending on how he comes off the injury.
10:07Like, really good run defender.
10:08He's a guy that needs to be a starter for you.
10:09Gary's a starter.
10:10I think Malachi Lawrence is kind of a rotational pass rusher guy.
10:14So, starter snaps for Gary and for Ezraku, and then rotational snaps for Malachi Lawrence,
10:20and in this scenario, a Bosa or a Von Miller.
10:23Like, I don't think there's an issue with that at all.
10:26Yeah, I mean, I think you're looking ideally like 30 snaps a game.
10:28I think he averaged 33.5 last year.
10:30So, 30 to 35 snaps a game.
10:33Ezraku?
10:33Ezraku.
10:34Yeah, those would be, like, the starting reps right there.
