00:08he's got a bunch of votes for champ at a weekend
00:11sione vacchi 248-539-9797 get your champ and chum votes in on this monday and no there's nothing
00:18to report yet on on jack campbell and we got to remember in this day and age you know with
00:23the
00:23hipaa laws and and you know sometimes it you know information doesn't get out as quickly as it used
00:29to so let's hope that's the case here and dan campbell's expected to speak today at three o'clock
00:35so um that might be closest time to getting an update obviously everyone wishes jack campbell a
00:42healthy return just to life forget football just to be able to be on like recently married recently
00:47father all that stuff right he's a son as well his parents i'm sure are worried sick but there were
00:52other injuries as well that you mentioned that going into miami game why that could be dangerous
00:56or you could be just hey you're on a little bit of alert like jack campbell's probably not going
01:00to play this weekend no matter you know no matter what the report is coming out whenever we get one
01:05wanham doesn't look like he's going to play judging by how bad that collision was brian branch i'm not
01:10sure but i think everyone of course was so excited to have branch back but he he plays with fire
01:17on
01:17his head like it's almost borderline reckless you know what i'm saying like yes that was friendly fire
01:21clearly and people have mentioned this before other teams have mentioned they think brian branch
01:26is dirty i don't think he's dirty i just think sometimes he's a bit reckless with the way he
01:30throws his body around he's been fined nearly two hundred thousand dollars including got fined last
01:36week for a hit in the middle of the field and when you saw the replay of the hit you're
01:40like yeah so i get
01:42why people say he's dirty and i just want to bring it up yeah like hey i don't know if
01:46he's available
01:46or not but when he is going to be available do we do they have to talk to brian branch
01:50about how he
01:51plays the game a little bit and how he tackles i think they might for a couple of reasons a
01:56take
01:56care of yourself and your teammates and be wary of that but two penalties man because you've got a
02:03reputation now like i think it's literally 184 000 in penalty in uh fines he's racked up in his career
02:12so referees are cognizant of of three two out there so be be a little more cautious i would think
02:18but at
02:19the same time i'm sure the lines are like that's how he plays the game he plays the game and
02:23we don't
02:23want to take that edge off of him because that's part of what makes him great 248-539-9797 let's
02:31get
02:31back to your phone calls we go to bryce in detroit yard 971 hello bryce hey what's up hey okay
02:39so uh for
02:40the champ of the week uh i want to throw in drew scrubs in it because um he earned that
02:45job he
02:46should never lost it so i love how he just stepped in and he just made the run game so
02:51much better
02:51so he's my uh champ of the week and for the chump it's all like the you know the lines
02:57critics of
02:57like dan kemmel last week for going for a fourth down and he couldn't get it but we got the
03:02ball back
03:03anyway still won the game and i said that because minnesota was in that same situation
03:08this week and they didn't they didn't get the ball back so there's a couple things about it that are
03:13different obviously bryce one is minnesota's strength is their defense not their offense so
03:18you can make the case that o'connell was was was playing to his strength he thought his defense
03:22will get the ball back it was fourth and four not fourth and one so he you know that obviously
03:29is
03:29part of the equation as well and but the one thing that works against him is he and then that
03:35dan campbell took into consideration his defense had just given up a 69 yard drive on seven plays
03:40where the lions didn't face a third down and they ran it five times for 57 yards they had just
03:45displayed against his defense that they could run out the clock and he punted anyway yeah i understand
03:52that and yeah minnesota did play to the strength and i thought that you know watching the game
03:58but you know just like the lions they were playing to their strength as well and i watched the saint
04:03brown podcast and saint brown he said that uh you know they want they want the ball at the end
04:10like
04:10pretty much at the end again they always want to end the ball with the ball dance so that's their
04:15identity just like it was minnesota identity but it didn't work out so despite the fact i don't make
04:20this real quick so despite the fact that i don't agree with all dan campbell calls i just thought that
04:26that was just a aggressive move that he made and i just think you know it opens your mind up
04:33to like like the traditions because any other coach would have put the ball but for him it's like
04:39it was it was it was smart enough well i'll say this about coaching decisions because they they're
04:44going to get that's part of coaching people are going to second guess play calls are going to
04:47second guess fourth down calls are going to second guess all kinds of stuff as long as there's logic
04:53behind it and not some warped you know completely out of left field logic but like some some logic
05:02that you can understand then i i can be convinced that these guys aren't just guessing or being
05:09reckless well they're not i mean there there's logic there has to be logic behind every move right
05:14and but you can disagree with it and that's fine too the two fourth down calls that he made last
05:21week
05:21you know one fourth and four or whatever it was i think or fourth and six whatever it was um
05:28i
05:29didn't like that one i wanted to kick the field goal uh the fourth and one i understood the logic
05:34behind it i didn't i didn't like it at the time i warmed up to it later but i still
05:39probably wouldn't
05:40have done it the way that he did it but i understood why he did i didn't understand the other
05:43one the other one felt like he was just taking a chance two four eight five three nine 97 97
05:49we go
05:51to spencer next hello spencer hey how's it going guys what's up so for my champ of the week i'm
05:58gonna
05:58have to say tommy carr i thought um when those two first reads weren't available he made two critical
06:04rushing touchdowns i thought he managed the game really well it was a big step forward for him from
06:09last week and for my jump of the week i'm gonna go with ohio state's defense specifically that
06:14linebacker who got hurtled by mark bowman that was a hell of a play by bowman is and am i
06:20right
06:21bowman's a freshman that was a true freshman that's an incredible play for a true freshman to make with
06:27the strength he showed on that run after catch that's the first time you see a guy hurdle somebody
06:33and actually got yards after it like legitimate yards oh you think yeah every time every time you
06:41watch a guy and somebody hurdles somebody they get hit like right away and oh it's you get the
06:45who's and oz because you jump over it this dude jumped over the guy kept going battled through a
06:49couple more tackles went down the sideline and the damn near scored it was a hell of a run
06:55well look ohio state has their share of issues and um i'm not the least bit sad about it but
07:02it was
07:02more than just the quarterback play on saturday night that they struggled with defensively they
07:08they were not i mean look you could see that one coming a mile away the way college football is
07:14this season is crazy lincoln riley goes from fire him on the tarmac to beating number two ohio state
07:21and oh by the way the team that made people want to fire him on the tarmac went to iowa
07:25and got shut
07:26out like you know luke fickle's gonna take his team into fringe playoff contention no he's not
07:33oh god man kirk ferentz loses to minnesota comes back the next week shuts out wisconsin 30 nothing yeah
07:39it's uh and usc is getting healthy now and now that they are healthy they look pretty formidable
07:46but it's lincoln riley so i'm still not buying into it i think ohio states i mean obviously losing
07:52their quarterback kind of sinks with what they've done because the other quarterbacks they have just
07:57they're not ready and i think you look back at last year and start to recognize how much talent
08:04ohio state lost last year um due to graduation or the draft or whatever and you can reload to a
08:10certain
08:11point but they haven't reloaded as well as they have in the past cory's in grand rapids and next here
08:17on 97 one hello cory gentlemen my champ of the week i know we're in football mode but my champ
08:24of
08:24the week dylan dingler forget another golden glove okay okay my jump of the week and it just changed in
08:31the last minute the guy who was screening your phone calls who had no idea about dylan dingler winning
08:37another golden glove come on guys be better oh easy didn't max anderson also win the gold glove in
08:47the minor leagues he did yeah he did jump paul for that not knowing that one either i bet you
08:51didn't
08:51know that one either get get with intense paul 248-539-9797 let's go to matt in gross point you're
08:58next hello matt hi guys how are you so quick champ sake it felt like he had like 120 yards
09:06but the fact
09:06that he ran and didn't fumble awesome and i'm just jumping the nfl for uh those taunting calls which
09:14were horse stuff but yeah so i have a question for you well no but i think they were i
09:22thought they
09:22were taunting but i think that what jmo did is what he always does just so happened the guy was
09:28standing in his way but which is an issue either way fair enough so here's my question though third
09:34and one second one like traditionally the idea was second one you go deep right because now the next time
09:41on third one you only have one yard or we also know that with the lions third and one we
09:46might go
09:47fourth on fourth and i understand not going a sneak on fourth and one because they're going to be
09:52bunched in but like second and one there's sometimes i'm like why don't we just do what tom
09:57brady uses just a quick sneak three yards reset the downs and go forward like i we finally did one
10:03yesterday but like i feel like that's so when he turns and gets it to gibbs and he's four yards
10:09deep against that defense it just didn't feel good and i don't know if i'm crazy but it was
10:15driving me nuts like just get just move the chains or am i wrong well look i mean quarterback snakes
10:22can
10:22take their tolls on quarterbacks um but yeah i mean anytime you run a third down if you don't get
10:29a
10:29third and one everybody hates the call if you run it up the middle you get the everybody knows what
10:33you're going to do and if you throw it on a third and one situation and you get sacked trying
10:38to
10:39throw it to the rhino people want your offensive coordinator and the head coach fired on the spot
10:43so it you when you don't convert a third and one it's it's really frustrating well he seems to think
10:49that second and one it's almost guaranteed they're going to throw deep that's traditionally what you
10:53do i don't think that's traditionally what you do i mean it's a it's a it's a card you can
10:57play you
10:57can play that card i think typically teams would try to run it and pick up the first down and
11:01get the sticks moving they literally did what he called for in that game didn't they do it twice
11:07they did it twice they got called for a false start once well that's that's becoming a a new it
11:12feels
11:13like this is happening more this year than than in the past where you see a lot of false starts
11:18in the nfl in really short distance situations and i don't know if it's because
11:29i'll venture a guess i think it's because quarterbacks are trying to do more of drawing
11:33the defense off side and while they're trying to do that their offense flinches
11:41248-539-9797 more your phone calls and feedback coming up champ and jump get your votes in we didn't
11:46talk about the most interesting play in the game we'll do that that's my apologies we'll do that at
11:491232 here on 97.1
