00:23Carly Minogue has been showing off the new man.
00:26In excess lead singer Michael Hutchence, the couple at last going public with their romance.
00:33There was concern from my team, they thought uh-oh, uh-oh, she's too cute and good for him
00:43and he's too bad and hot for her.
00:48Yeah, well I think people are going to be a bit shocked.
00:54Carly Minogue has come out and said that she has never used hard drugs.
00:59Do you ever try and tempt her to do anything harder?
01:03What were the nights out like?
01:06It was fun.
01:14Yeah, she can do what she wants.
01:16I never told anybody to do anything.
01:17She's on a real high herself.
01:19She doesn't need anything.
01:21Quite much fun.
01:23It's a lot of fun.
01:24Fun?
01:28According to some newspapers, I read you've discovered sex.
01:32Would you like me to comment further on that?
01:34Yes, I would.
01:35Yes, I would.
01:35Um, well, no I can't.
01:38Sorry.
01:38What are you trying to get to?
01:41How devilish was I?
01:44I was devilish enough.
01:53Let's get your sister out of the way very quickly.
01:55Is she in love?
01:56She was this sexy rock god that men and women just went, ugh.
02:04She just oozed confidence and confidence is sexy.
02:11In her world back then, confidence was just everything.
02:16How can I do that?
02:18I really love you, love you.
02:20But I remember just like she'd fallen head over heels.
02:26That's for sure.
02:40Love you.
02:42Yeah.
02:43Okay, it's okay.
02:44Uh-huh.
02:44we are now on the orient express on june 26th this is an american couple filming this young
02:52australian couple who are here to have a great time you're on the air yes he was this wild guy
03:02but his intention was good even if we weren't being so good everything was done with a lot of
03:11love i had so many firsts with him hi hi i never felt like i had blinkers on
03:29but he took them off
03:38i was at the perfect age i was 21 years old
03:48that's nice
04:02he was hilarious
04:07and cultured and tender
04:14i love seeing the ones that are that's not the shot them the moments around the shot
04:26i just felt like i had my person there
04:31you can see in any pictures from then as well
04:46maybe life wasn't going so fast for a second because i remember all of it
04:53like being on that boat in hong kong with that feeling of promise
05:01i felt like a jewel if you dropped it it would smash but if you protected it
05:08it could shine
05:10are you going to marry him
05:18it would it would be nice to be proposed to but i don't know we'll have to see
05:21it would be nice at the time at the time i got in to see nxs recording in the studio
05:38and i loved it
05:41i loved being in amongst that i felt like i discovered a tribe
05:49thought it was amazing to see them write songs together and have ownership over the end result
05:56you know we're pretty much equal we tend to discuss things i'll say i think this and if they all
06:02go oh yeah we agree with that then we'll go into songs basically
06:06it must be that way you have to be true to yourself then it was like a light bulb
06:18i wanted to express myself more and i just hadn't had that before
06:31i knew this was the turning point
06:36she had a rockstar boyfriend michael gave her the confidence to be confident whatever i did i knew
06:44she wasn't gonna like remember the old days remember the snare drumming
06:54a guitar
06:55a bit more guitar
06:59here's a hi-hat
07:02i'd started making noise
07:05i've got an idea i mean what about this and what about that
07:09we haven't got time to discuss anything because we're you know we didn't have the time
07:16i became really frustrated it felt like fighting against the system
07:22i know i've had 15 number ones i know we've had 142 top 20s i mean i've lost count
07:30i wanted to explore different ideas be open to to change that's not what the public want that's not
07:38what the public want public want i should be so lucky
07:43oh well um i'm just tired of playing it so safe and i i should be allowed to speak
07:51should be allowed to have some input just to to be able to to have something to do with my
07:58work you
07:58you know not just be the face for it
08:00me
08:07it's like someone was strangling any creativity that i had
08:14and by being forced to be quiet shut up and listen i learned a lot that way
08:23and so things don't change i won't be here anymore
08:33unless i could have things my way
08:38listen i have two daughters and at some point the old man don't know as much as they do
08:48that's called growing up i didn't used to be able to say no
08:54you do now i certainly do yeah i do
09:05i was reclaiming my sense of self
09:13and that's when i discovered that there were many more kylees out there
09:19it's upon the hour to come amongst you and amaze you with absolute incredible
09:24love this world type show look out here we go
09:30i think my manager had said
09:35there's a kylie knight and i'd never heard of a kylie knight like what
09:51there's drag performers dressed as you do you want to go yeah
10:00it was like wow
10:09like supersonic versions of me
10:16and this was a time when it was in to really not like me
10:26and i ended up on stage at this drag bar and i felt like the least kylie there
10:33yeah i thought i gotta step it up i gotta get some lashes on and some eyeliner or something
10:43pete waterman had been badgered sufficiently to go all right kid what do you want
10:49what kind of music do you want to make and i think that might be the first time he really
10:52asked me that i just had had enough
10:58she was going to clubs she's now part of that whole club scene
11:06if you're in that you're going to want your records to sound like that
11:14why do you think it suits people to portray you as some kind of bimbo
11:18because it's easy and then i'm not a threat to them
11:21there's something pretty remarkable about young kylie minogue
11:26gossip columnists write her off as the singing budget
11:30well the budgie's feathers are ruffled monday 29 jam 10 30 sharp remember that gig
11:42we caught ourselves singing budgies i remember what i was wearing my amazing shiny tights
11:51that i was obsessed with
11:54i remember michael being smacked bang in the middle of the crowd
11:59kylie's got this real sweet innocent image
12:03apparently it's really not the person that people think she is
12:06and there's a lot of strength
12:08singing budgie you know it's a horrible title
12:11whoever wrote that is probably fat and bald and 50 years old but they look 70 and they've got bad
12:17breath and can't control themselves um and they're probably jealous
12:25we've gone from i should be so lucky to kind of the diva in one foul swoop
12:33she wanted to see the video makers she wanted her own stylists
12:38the guys that we've worked with here for years she just went i'm not working with those guys anymore
12:43whether it's stylists or photographers or whoever i'm working with them rather than just being
12:51force-fed their ideas
12:56i was running from the 80s the sheen of it the era of it the puppeteering or the having no
13:04substance
13:06and as soon as i had my image in my little grasp
13:13my god i turned into a lunatic
13:26those few bars that we heard there the first time anybody's heard your new single in this country
13:31and a videotape to go with you well yeah that's being sent over tomorrow actually and it's quite
13:35different oh my god oh my god this is it this is the moment holy mary mother of god
13:46i guess i was taking the power back
13:57yeah just saying all right let's go
14:04okay um reports please oh my god the press are gonna like ban it i think it's gonna be bad
14:09i know
14:10it's gonna terry you're gonna hate it ma'am what's your dad gonna say
14:17it's gonna be bad
14:25carly minogue and the squeaky clean next-door neighbor kicks off her tour tonight
14:30she'll be putting her new look and new sound through their paces
14:40what can the fans expect it's lots of fun it's just um an hour and a half of
14:46letting go and just enjoying themselves the papers in england have been saying your show's rauncher this
14:51time is that right well they've gone a little extreme it's not an x-rated show or anything
14:58is that what i was wearing like really
15:02raunchy outfits
15:09she couldn't have picked a worse thing to do
15:19it's great to finally be here but a lot of talk about a changing image for carly minogue
15:24yeah i saw that in the paper today nice hair to yvonne
15:35so what can people expect when they come to see you
15:41well
15:44lots of choreography fabulous costumes my outfits have been designed by john galliano
15:51after checking her out seeing you know how she danced how she moved getting to know her personality
15:56i went away and um did some drawings so we first outfit was very inspired by lolita
16:06and it's worn over a frilly bra and um body slip with built-in knickers
16:14and everybody's going out there she's i'm going no no no whoa whoa whoa whoa this is kylie's wish
16:21ready five six seven eight this is what she wants to do
16:34she's gonna find out for herself
16:38i don't want people to know what to expect actually i want them to come with an open mind
17:00i don't want people to know what to expect
17:01yeah it was we went a bit far i'm not gonna lie we went a bit far
17:12i mean a good maybe it was good in real but it didn't look good in a freeze frame
17:21i'm gonna defend it with that
17:28does that help i think it does help
17:36but i know what you're gonna cut to
17:41now our next guest shocked her young fans by strutting across the stage in some of this ghetto
17:46i don't have to describe it too much kylie good morning hi how are you i'm very well how do
17:50you
17:51how do you react i mean you did you read all the criticism or did you throw most of it
17:55away i i i
17:57saw some of it
18:01they say that you look a bit like madonna now or you're trying to model yourself well when we're
18:06saying they we're talking about the tabloid prayer that was tricky to defend those decisions
18:19with your new tour name there is such controversy yeah i'm a bit surprised
18:28she kind of went too far prancing around the dublin stage in lingerie she went from the girl next door
18:36she's been around the flock it's much raunchier than it was yes i mean i don't really like to call
18:43myself raunchy we've just seen that your raunchy new video that a new raunchy image it's certainly
18:49fairly raw isn't it raw um well raw as in as in raunchy i mean you know there was a
18:56time when you
18:57thought when you said you were raunchier than your sister she's changed the image hasn't she yeah she has
19:03slightly i remember thinking this is so boring repetitive
19:14stupid to hear that kylie minogue is too sexy it's a bit like hearing that mary poppins has turned into
19:20a hooker i mean imagine you just show up to work every day and you just
19:30there's even been speculation in australia that you've had a boob job oh dear
19:37one magazine even went as far as showing before and after shots
19:44it's exhausting
19:49and then as a female pop artist if you say something you're a bitch you've got an ego you're
19:56a diva any mother are complaining no well you know if if you're going to interview me having
20:04researched tabloid newspapers there's no point talking to me because i didn't see loads of mothers
20:10storming out with their children and if you're a guy and you say shut up that's not true people go
20:15fair enough he's right one mother so i get questioned god well you know parents were storming out with the
20:22kids it's rubbish i am disappointed at the moment because i'm not trying to i'm trying to be myself
20:34but whenever the going got tough i had that love and support from michael
20:42in excess is the first non-american group to land six consecutive top 10 hits in the hot 100
20:50since culture club in 1983-84.
20:54really
20:57but michael was touring all over the world so it became really hard for us to see each other
21:14so i would send video messages to him
21:20is it telling you it's low light
21:23one two three
21:25hi he sends a light to michael
21:36i think of another message to give you very shortly
21:42but it just became more and more difficult
21:45are you still in love with carly
21:49jeff
21:52don't ask me because that's no it's too private you know
21:54what you know it's true at the very least we're very good friends you know always will be
22:00it's not you know kind of the very best
22:03he learns
22:05he learns
22:11he was the first in so many ways
22:19and one of those first was
22:24a heartbreak
22:25i was devastated
22:38he was a rock star
22:40which doesn't just mean
22:43that he needs to have many women in his life but he needed to go where he needed to go
22:53but i know from people in his circle that he talked of me and thought of me
23:06we were good together
23:11shoulda woulda coulda whatever well you know you go on and live your lives
23:17um but it was definitely an amazing point in time
23:22and i've probably been looking for something like that ever since and i haven't got it
23:30really
23:32yeah
23:33can i ask when you think of him today
23:36how does it make you feel
23:43good even if i'm getting teary because it's just it's like it was all good
23:50yeah but to have
23:54someone that you really felt like you're a good team
23:57yeah
24:01anyway we've got to go get past that
24:09i didn't know where to go what to do
24:12and i didn't want to be in london i didn't want to be in australia
24:16and so i went to paris
24:21i remember having a tiny english to french dictionary
24:27i didn't know anyone there but i had two phone numbers scratched on a bit of paper
24:34and one of those numbers was a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend of mine
24:44and
24:47she lived with a girl called cat my best oldest girlfriend katarina jeb whose apartment we're in
24:57oh
24:57cat doesn't like to be in front of a camera
24:59i'm out of here
25:00oh to tell her tell me if you need them okay
25:04i'll wail because she is an amazing photographer with an incredible eye and heart
25:12corners corners
25:13and we say corners love from all corners
25:23Katja, Prince, what do we have here?
25:25Paris
25:29I moved myself into her apartment
25:32I got a sleeping bag
25:34I slept on the sofa
25:38I was feeling heartbroken
25:40and was escaping my feelings
25:45but we would do photo sessions
25:50Just the two of us
25:53I didn't know who she was
25:55because my exposure to pop culture
25:58was not very voluminous
26:02but it was an instantaneous understanding
26:09Going for it?
26:11I don't know
26:14I've been the subject pretty much my entire life
26:19But this was different
26:23We're not doing it because someone's asked for it
26:28We're doing it because we want to do it
26:31The public persona versus the private persona
26:35How many people can unveil themselves completely unfiltered?
26:42I'd been doing very dark lashes and kind of bouffant
26:46And it was Kat who said to me
26:48What about, would you just let your hair, just let the curls out
26:52Or maybe less of the brows
26:54And then I went like to nothing
26:58Even though a photograph can capture a moment
27:01Can capture a story
27:02It's really hard to see yourself
27:05There's this camera
27:06There's a wall
27:08You see through it
27:10You can't see it
27:11But there's a divide
27:15And I felt with hers
27:16The invisible wall
27:18Was gone
27:22And I was looking through Kat's photographs
27:25And I thought, wow, I can see me
27:29She was a real saviour to me
27:32I started to feel good and confident
27:35As a woman on my own
27:42She has called it the end of an era
27:43And they have refused to comment
27:45But Kylie Minogue's relationship with Pete Waterman Ltd
27:48Her record company of five years
27:50Has ended
27:52Kylie told MTV News that PWL found it hard to accept the changes
27:56To be honest, I wasn't sad
28:00And I remember, honestly, I'm not telling this
28:02I had to sit with the staff here
28:04And explain that at some point
28:07You left home from your mum and dad
28:09Well, this is Kylie
28:11Leaving home from my mum and dad
28:13And making it out on her own
28:14That's all it is
28:15And that's part of growing up
28:18You know, so
28:26We've come to an end
28:27Things do come to an end, you know
28:35I signed to Deconstruction Records
28:40They had a very independent feel
28:42Kylie, how do you do a nice to meet you?
28:48They were open to experimentation
28:52And wanted me to be much more involved
28:56And we talked about a very different vocal delivery
29:02We all get hurt by love
29:06And we all have a cross to bear
29:11I hadn't done those kind of notes before
29:14But it was like, feel the fear and do it anyway
29:16Problems should be shared
29:25I'd never done anything like that
29:35Kylie Minogue returns to the pop scene this week
29:39With a new record and a new sound
29:47The new album, Kylie Minogue
29:49Has widely been greeted as
29:51Your bid to become treated as
29:53A serious artist
29:54Is that how you see it?
30:01I can use whatever language I like
30:16If Kylie Minogue represents the Australian dream
30:19Then Nick Cave is surely the Australian nightmare
30:27Attracting a cult following with his twisted lyrics
30:30And darkly wasted image
30:32All right, go all the way down to the end
30:35I think those songs are written with a fair amount of disgust for things
30:49Because I'm a pretty disgusted person
30:58Look, I was an observer
31:03And I just always liked her
31:05Whenever I saw her on the TV
31:07There was something about her that I liked
31:11But, you know, I didn't sit around and listen to her records or anything
31:15I wasn't like a fan fan
31:19But there was something that I recognised in her
31:21That I responded to
31:25But you just don't like to be photographed
31:27No, I don't really
31:28So, let's move it along here
31:33There was a strange thing with Kylie
31:35Because even though she had mass appeal
31:38You know, she had everything
31:39But credibility
31:41And I looked at her
31:43Because
31:45I had credibility
31:47But not much else
31:56At that time
31:58I was writing a bunch of murder songs
32:01So I had a kind of audacious idea
32:04For Kylie Minogue to do a murder ballad
32:09Yeah, hello
32:12But there was terrible opposition
32:14From management and so forth
32:16That this is just a fucked up idea
32:18Which it was
32:20This is cool
32:23Storyboard for where the wild roses grow
32:26This is so cool
32:28Nick observes Kylie's face and body in water
32:32I was a well-known sort of drug addict
32:35Close-up angle static
32:36Kylie lays in water
32:37Tear on cheek
32:38Flies possibly buzz around face
32:40And the nature of the song was dubious
32:44Close-up static
32:45Nick reaches for rock again
32:50Yeah, I mean, that's always been close to my heart
32:53Nick reached out
32:54And I was like
32:58Who?
32:58Like, huh?
32:59I was not the demographic of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
33:04Fan club
33:05But there is an Australian thing
33:08They just do shit, right?
33:10They just do stuff
33:11And they don't think about it too much
33:13They just give stuff a shot, you know
33:15And she's like, yeah, okay
33:19And...
33:19I was...
33:20I was naive
33:21I didn't know
33:26We were waiting for her to come into the studio
33:31I don't think anyone had met Kylie before
33:37And the Bad Seeds
33:39We were a dark force
33:43This group of weird, fucked up, sort of broken men
33:47And a lot of drugs
33:50And a contemptuous, pessimistic view of the world
33:57But when she came into the studio
34:01She was like this sort of beam of light
34:09With this incredible positivity
34:15I don't think we'd ever met anyone in our lives
34:19It was really that liked life
34:24Just this sort of bold brightness
34:29And we were really terrified
34:31Of it to some degree
34:35On the first day I saw her
34:37I knew she was...
34:39And when she went to record
34:40She sang in a kind of Kylie-esque, trained
34:46A lot of vocal tricks, I guess
34:48And we were like, look
34:51Forget all that
34:52Just sing it straight
34:54When he knocked on my door
34:56And entered the room
34:59Sing it less
35:00Like almost make it a story
35:05And be a character
35:10And she just did this version of it
35:12That so beautifully haunted the whole thing
35:19We were just staggered
35:32Good evening
35:34And we have something very special for you tonight
35:36On Top of the Pops
35:39I remember doing Top of the Pops
35:42I think you can see by the performance
35:44I don't know what's going on
35:48I'm just sort of bumbling around
35:51You know, the people that turned up to my concerts
35:54Were psychos
35:56We would be taking iron bars
35:58And scissors and knives
36:00Off people in the front row
36:01So I know about a dangerous audience
36:05But I've never experienced anything like Kylie Minogue's
36:11Audience
36:13They were terrifying
36:16Just these sort of monstrous, awful teenage girls
36:24They did not like me
36:26They did not like me to go near their princess
36:29Well, Nick gets worried that my fans
36:33Didn't like him or didn't like the project
36:36I don't think that's so
36:38And these little girls say
36:39You fucking old bastard
36:41What are you doing?
36:42You horrible old cunt
36:44They were just evil
36:47So I couldn't help but throw my arms around Kylie
36:52And they're just running their fingers across their throats
36:56And saying, just don't
36:57And then they'd turn the cameras towards them
37:00And they'd all be like, hey
37:04Kylie with Nick Cave in the back seat
37:06Right, well done
37:07Evil
37:08Evil people
37:14I'm a hell of a lot better for seeing you
37:17Did you read about us in the paper?
37:19No
37:21Apparently we're snogging
37:29More snogging than singing
37:33Our worlds collided
37:35But it was like another kind of love
37:44I'm going to sound like I'm just like falling in love all the time
37:46But it was really
37:52Some kind of union
37:54That wasn't romantic
37:58I think we recognised
38:00A vulnerability
38:02In each other
38:04That we were sort of
38:05I think at that time
38:07I'm trying to
38:09Escape
38:11I was locked into a kind of lifestyle
38:14That was becoming increasingly problematic
38:19But with Kylie
38:22I could see the world
38:27In a positive way
38:33Thank you
38:34I'd like to invite now
38:35Miss Kylie Minogue
38:36To come up here
38:41And I think she wanted to
38:43Break free from
38:45The sort of constraints
38:47That she thought she was
38:49Imprisoned by
38:53A prisoner of an image
38:58That she was a sort of
39:00Brainless
39:02Pop
39:03Pablum
39:03You know
39:04Mush
39:05But she had
39:07Things to say
39:09Particularly with the lyrics
39:10It's like the most important thing you can do
39:13Really
39:13And if you're writing your own lyrics
39:15You don't have other people's thoughts
39:16Coming out of your mouth
39:18It's sort of defining yourself in a way
39:20You don't have
39:20Nick Cave
39:21Says to me
39:22Where are your lyrics?
39:26I'm not really fully fleshed somewhere yet
39:29If you feel things
39:30Then you're able to write them
39:32So
39:32I hope you do that
39:34Kylie
39:35You know what I did find?
39:37Lyrics
39:40I remember
39:41Trying to write something
39:42That would talk to me
39:46I wanted to be your lonesome cowboy
39:48I wanted to love you till it hurt
39:51That was a lyric
39:52That's not my writing
39:53Someone else has written in my book
39:55She wanted to be stopped in time suspended
39:56It was the best ever night
39:58That obviously didn't make it
40:00I mean
40:02It's really terrible
40:03This is going to sound really terrible
40:05When I say it out loud
40:07You just can't wait
40:07Can you?
40:09Who would have thought
40:10That little girl
40:11Would end up living out her wildest dreams?
40:15Sometimes it sounds really
40:16Not so great saying it
40:18There's a lot of absolute tosh in here
40:21There's got to be something in here
40:23Hello
40:25I wanted to sometimes be
40:28Irresponsible
40:29I wanted to own the choice I made
40:32Quite revealing
40:34In what way?
40:37It's not self-explanatory
40:39It's not very revealing at all
40:44But then I caught something from the creative ether
40:50It felt like a fire
40:55Was just like coming out of me
40:57Oh gosh
41:00It was like contained rage
41:07I wanted to find a way
41:09To put an end to all of my destruction
41:11I wanted to know what I was worth
41:14She really was
41:15She, I
41:16I was just really in it
41:23I wasn't separate to the song
41:25Well I would make it slower
41:27And shorter
41:28I really wanted to be
41:32More than one facet
41:34I have so many characters lurking in my body
41:38It's frightening
41:40I'm possessed
41:45It was much more on the edge
41:49I was very on the edge
41:50Clearly
41:52I didn't know what I was saying
41:55What do you mean?
41:59Her new album
42:01Two years in the making
42:04Let's get this lady out here
42:05The impossible princess herself
42:07Ladies and gentlemen
42:07Carly Manon
42:10Have you totally disown those really early songs now?
42:14I've actually not been able to say
42:16I should be so lucky
42:17In so many years
42:18And in a way
42:19It was a slight exorcism
42:22There was an honesty
42:24And a purity
42:25And a
42:26I'm just putting it all out there
42:28It's definitely
42:29The most personal work I've ever done
42:33Is that more nerve wracking
42:34When it goes out?
42:36Yeah
42:36Scary
42:41And then I saw a billboard
42:43You don't know about the billboard
42:47There was a billboard
42:48That said
42:50We've decided what to do with Kylie's music
42:54Don't play it
42:57Boom
43:00A royal slap
43:02Quick test for sound
43:03You alright?
43:04Yeah, go on
43:04One, two, three, four, five
43:05Hello, here we are
43:06Tower Records
43:07You started?
43:08Yep, it's about to
43:09Sorry
43:10Thank you
43:12Thank you
43:13Kylie, if we could first start by asking you about the new album
43:15I don't think I was on the radio at all
43:18How did it all come about?
43:20Um, in fact
43:21Some stations were actively not playing me
43:27In the house tonight
43:28Wielding the new Mojica
43:30Jason Donovan
43:31You have to talk about Kylie Minogue
43:32Do you follow her career?
43:33Have you turned her kind of venture with the latest album into doing some indie stuff?
43:36What do you think of that?
43:38It hasn't worked
43:38I don't think
43:40Kylie! Kylie!
43:44Kylie!
43:47Kylie!
43:49Kylie!
43:51Kylie!
43:53You just want to
43:55Watch you crumble and they're on to the next person
43:58Pop!
43:59Disposable!
43:59Pop!
44:00Disposable!
44:01Are the teen sensation seems like Kim Gon?
44:02What do you think your appeal is?
44:04I mean, uh
44:04Do you know, some sort of disappear?
44:06What can you take a lot of?
44:07Um, it'd be better off asking other people that than me
44:09I'm, I can't be that self analytical I don't think
44:14Many, many times I just thought
44:15I just honestly don't know if this is worth it
44:19Just tell me about the album though
44:21It's got overly imaginative style
44:24and the minute you start trying to defend yourself they've won
44:35excuse me where are you from is that a serious question is there any truth that we're not talking
44:43so ridiculous do you think she's had it really in terms of the music industry i never thought
44:50she had it in the first place really i was making deconstruction no money zipper nada real nothing
44:58so she's off the books i thought i'm gonna act again because there was enough people who were
45:08thinking if not saying that's it it's done
45:33i got a phone call and yeah
45:41i don't remember what words she said but it was like he's gone
45:51i got the flight back to sydney for the funeral
45:58i just went oh that's another first this is my first um service that i've been to like
46:06okay always with the firsts you know
46:14we gather to mourn the death of someone whom most of us barely knew
46:25we listened to him sing
46:29and felt that it was for us alone we're here today to mourn the death of michael hutchins
46:42it might seem disproportionate the emotion and the memories i have with him and with that time
46:52but i just felt protected and nurtured and valued and believed in
47:02someone you counted on is gone
47:05i remember being at the church and it was overwhelming the outpouring of love for him
47:11someone who was your rock is no more
47:15that's gonna sound totally crazy but i felt him just saying it's okay
47:20it will be okay
47:25i always feel he's with me
47:30it's kind of crazy but i do
47:35which is so like you can you can have relationships with as i have had you know relationships with
47:43different people but someone that really just believed in believes in you so much
47:53here's an important point
47:56you really didn't want me to be someone else for him at all
48:01he was encouraging me
48:06to discover me
48:18fuck
48:34i had a kind of harebrained idea now without further ado i'd like to introduce the first of the talented
48:41and totally diverse artists
48:44i was asked to go and perform at this thing called the poetry olympics two days and nights
48:50of continuous poetry that was put on that at the um albert hall
48:57here is a love that makes its bargain with bad habits tell me lies about vietnam
49:04you can have sex with anyone
49:07but with whom
49:09can you sleep
49:11this had some great poets in it but mostly it was just this endless
49:17worthy
49:19art
49:20when i take off my head the head looks into my bleeding neck
49:26the fucking baby's fucking crying the fucking flowers fucking dying
49:29people have been sitting in their chairs i think for
49:35you know a day listening to this poetry
49:41i was seeing kylie quite a bit
49:43thank you
49:45and i'm like why don't you come along and recite something
49:50i was thinking are you mad
49:53the sword damocles is hanging over all of us
49:57this is not my world i'm not i'm not from the literary world
50:01in view of that what subject can we sensibly discuss
50:05so i tried everything to get out of it
50:09she said she tried to get out of it
50:11oh really we weren't having any of that
50:14for what is liberty without the liberty to pack
50:18and i said to nick god's on stage how do we follow that
50:23he said jesus did okay and then he went out
50:33the way i remember it is that which which i'm surprised i can remember anything at all
50:39because we were so out of it
50:40ho ho ho ho ho ho ho
50:47thank you
50:48you're about to bring on the flame-like
50:51tony manu ladies and gentlemen
50:55she walked on
50:59this pop princess
51:02up against the most elitist art form there is of poetry
51:07well thank you
51:10well i didn't expect to be here but i i have come with words that i did not write
51:15which i shall read to you
51:28in my imagination there is no hesitation i dream about you all the time
51:37and i could hear the recognition that the audience they were with me and with us
51:45in my imagination there is no complication
51:49we walk together hand in hand
51:51she just broke the night open
51:53and i'm dreaming that you're in love with me
51:56with poetry that we could understand
52:02i should be so lucky
52:06lucky lucky lucky
52:08i should be so lucky enough
52:13thank you
52:17it was like being face to face with my old self
52:23the one that i was trying to turn my back on
52:29i don't know if i said this out right but i you know i'm like what the fuck are you
52:33doing
52:33like indie i mean no one willingly wants to be indie
52:43they may say they do
52:51but that's not what kylie is you know kylie is this force
53:01that is there to affect thousands and thousands and thousands of people
53:10it's all outward
53:13it's all giving
53:16you have an enormous positive influence
53:19these people that go along to their first pop concert
53:22it's a life-changing moment where they feel
53:26something that they've never known before
53:31the great beauty of pop music is that it is a joy machine
53:40you've got the coolest guy on the planet
53:45saying where's the pop tunes
53:52right let's get the jetpacks on and let's get back to the dance floor
53:58but if this doesn't work i am finished
54:04i'm spinning around
54:06move out of my way
54:08i know you're feeling me cause you like it like this
54:12i'm breaking it down
54:14i'm not the same
54:16i know you're feeling me cause you like it like this
54:28so
54:32before me
54:33i know you hang out
54:49i know you have a great feeling
