00:00CBBC would like to state that no braineese or insects were harmed in the making of this program
00:04and that none of the training you're about to see be attempted unless under expert supervision.
00:09Eight braineese, one challenge.
00:12To use complex mass of 100 billion cells we call Brain for chance to win Brain Jitsu Black Brain Belt.
00:20This is Brain Jitsu.
00:28Born in Lancashire, trained in Japan, with mind as sharp as samurai sword,
00:34he is brain master, he is the sensei.
00:38Konnichiwa.
00:39And welcome to Brain Jitsu.
00:43Mental training specially designed to boost brain power and focus.
00:47My trainees, or braineese, have been following a basic program of training in the comfort of their own home.
00:54A brain boosting routine of exercise, sleep and enough fruit and veg to stock a greengrocer's.
01:03I feel really prepared and I enjoy the training and I'm looking forward to this.
01:06I did the training quite a lot, I did it twice a day and I find it quite easy.
01:13The brain training was really easy so Brain Jitsu is going to be a doggle.
01:16But now my braineese must put their training into practice by testing a part of the brain we use every
01:22day.
01:22Level one.
01:24Level one!
01:26Take a look at this tin of Brain Jitsu beans.
01:29Now, try to find it amongst all the other tins.
01:34Spot it, eh?
01:36Congratulations!
01:37You've just used your occipital lobes.
01:40This area, the seeing part of our brain, allows us to recognise and separate images from each other.
01:47The seven braineese who use their occipital lobes the best will be allowed to enter my brain jitsu dojo, where
01:53their training will continue.
01:55The one who fails will be left outside.
01:58Oh!
01:59Feel the burn.
02:01Enter the dojo!
02:05Braineese must answer four questions by counting the different coloured shapes on the board in front of them.
02:11Get them right and they'll be left with a four-digit code, which they must then use to unlock a
02:15piece of brain and secure their place in the dojo.
02:19But with only seven pieces of brain and eight braineese, one of either Ashley, Tamla, Cameron, Shannon, Angelica, Wesley, Katie
02:28or Ellie, will be left outside and eliminated.
02:33As the four questions are revealed, our braineese are more excited than a sumo in a chocolate factory.
02:40How many black triangles are there?
02:47How many large green circles are there?
02:54How many orange shapes are there?
03:00How many blue shapes are there?
03:06The answer our braineese are looking for is two, one, four, six.
03:15Lots of braineese have gone off their stools at the same time, but have any of them got the code
03:19right?
03:21With one braine to each piece of brain, Wesley is still working out the code.
03:26But alert Angelica has already got the right answer and claimed her place in the dojo.
03:32Don't forget the code our braineese are looking for is two, one, four, six.
03:36As there are two black triangles, one large green circle, four orange shapes and six blue shapes.
03:48Shannon's so eager to have another crack at the code, she's practically knocked her stool over.
03:56Shannon's wrong again, while Katie slots in the pink piece of brain to take second place, with Ashley coming third.
04:02And Cameron claims that fourth coveted space in the dojo.
04:08The key to this task is to stay calm and really focus on getting the answers right.
04:14Ellie and Wesley track the code, leaving just Tamla and Shannon to fight it out for the last piece of
04:19brain.
04:23That's it, Tamla's got it.
04:25Although the laundry basket seems to have swallowed her piece of brain.
04:29She's got it, so Tamla is in and Shannon is out.
04:37So, as Seven entered the dojo for a chance to survive six more gruelling levels of brain training,
04:42for Shannon, the dream of the black brain belt has ended before it even started.
04:47I did do my training at home, but it just didn't work out.
04:52I probably forgot it all.
04:53I think Angelica will have a good chance, because she is quite determined and she's very fast.
05:00With six levels to go, Angelica, Katie, Ashley, Cameron, Ellie,
05:06Wesley, Wesley and Tamla have entered the dojo and achieved the first of their coloured brain belts.
05:13I feel happy and I've got more confidence now that I've managed to get through the first round.
05:19I'm definitely going to try not to come last again.
05:22In the task, I found it was challenging and I felt really nervous as well.
05:29In this next level of training, things are going to get really hard.
05:34Level two.
05:36Orange Vault.
05:38We do things every day without even thinking, like eating with a knife and fork.
05:44Now, try swapping them over and see how you get on.
05:48I prefer chopsticks, mate.
05:52If you manage to do that, you're using part of your brain that deals with problem solving, the frontal lobes.
05:58And that's what level two is all about.
06:01Taking something you can only do without thinking and doing it differently.
06:06Work it.
06:07To prepare them for using their frontal lobes in the next challenge, my brainees are going to need some training.
06:13Room of Mental Nourishment.
06:16The Room of Mental Nourishment is where our young hopefuls will train their brains to help them progress to the
06:21next levels of the dojo.
06:23The more seriously they take their training, the better chance they'll have in the challenges ahead.
06:28And in level two, that challenge is all about getting their brains to think in a new way.
06:35Brain training.
06:36Take it in turns to call out the action on your cards.
06:38Everyone has to do the opposite.
06:41Look happy.
06:45Look sad.
06:46This training makes our brainees work their frontal lobes, as they have to really think about something they would normally
06:51do without thinking at all.
06:53Turn head right.
06:56You messed up, Ellie.
06:57No.
06:58Ellie, Ellie, first one out.
07:00Rub stomach clockwise.
07:05Why are you doing it?
07:06You're out.
07:09Well, you can't blame a braine for wanting as much practice as possible.
07:12Training tip time.
07:16Tip.
07:16Don't rush.
07:18Pause for two seconds to think before you react.
07:22Looks sad.
07:23If you want to work your frontal lobes at home, why not try this exercise with your mates?
07:28It's great fun and will help improve your focus.
07:31Touch left shoulder.
07:37Oh, you did it wrong.
07:39Think about the tip, Katie.
07:41Touch right here.
07:43You got it wrong.
07:45Angelica, you messed it up.
07:47So, with three of the girls out, who do our brainees think did the best?
07:52I doubt it was the best because boys are the best.
07:55Sorry, girls.
07:56Yeah, right.
07:57I think the boys are so good at that because boys' brains are better.
08:01You wish.
08:03I'm feeling a bit nervous now because I got out first.
08:06I marked it all off and I didn't really listen to the tip.
08:10So, energetic Ellie says she didn't take the tip on board.
08:13But will she use it in the next challenge?
08:16Cousins Wesley and Cool Cameron think the boys did better than the girls.
08:20But Tamla disagreed.
08:22Even though she, Katie, Angelica and Ellie were all eliminated in the training.
08:27But who will be eliminated in the actual challenge?
08:31There's only one way to find out as our seven now put their frontal lobe training to the test.
08:38Guardian of the Dojo and Task Adjudicator the Sheehan will now demonstrate the level two challenge.
08:44Confusing colour challenge.
08:48Brainy's will take turn to stand in middle of confusing colour challenge, Matt.
08:53Sheehan then flip through 15 cards.
08:56On each card is name of colour.
08:58Ignoring actual word and focusing only on colour that word is written in.
09:03Brainy's must then jump with both feet onto matching circle.
09:07So, if see this, must jump on blue.
09:11Brainy will need to be on board because Sheehan will be turning over cards at fair old lick.
09:18Player with least number of correct colour matches will be eliminated.
09:24My brainy tip for this task is to focus the mind on just one letter and not the whole word.
09:30What's important here is not the word, but the colour that it's written in.
09:39The level one winner, Alert Angelica, takes to the mat, but she looks very nervous.
09:47Angelica was eliminated in the training, but she's doing very well here.
09:50No mistakes so far.
09:52Don't forget, our brainy's have to see the colour, not the word.
09:55So that's purple.
09:57That's yellow.
10:02Angelica must have taken the training tip on board because that was a good round.
10:06Now Katie.
10:11Katie was also eliminated in the training and she's making a few slip-ups here.
10:16That should have been blue, that was orange, and that was green.
10:22Katie must remember to think differently and see the colour, not the word.
10:27She's finished.
10:31Ashley's up next.
10:34The boys thought they did better than the girls in the training.
10:37Will Ashley be living proof?
10:39He's quite slow to get his bearings, but all correct so far.
10:44That should have been pink, and that blue.
10:49He's finished, but there are a few penalties there.
10:52Cool Cameron gets a near-perfect run.
10:57And then it's energetic Ellie's turn.
10:59Ellie was first to be eliminated in the training and she said she was nervous about this task,
11:04but she needn't have been because she's got full marks so far.
11:07Yellow, correct.
11:09And blue's right too.
11:13She must have taken the tip on board after all, because that's a perfect score.
11:19Wesley and Tamla both have their chance to dance.
11:25But as the gong sounds for the last time, which of our seven brainies are going home?
11:31Energetic Ellie came in first place with 15 matches.
11:35In joint second place with 14 matches are cousins Wesley and Cameron.
11:41In third place with 13 colour matches is Angelica.
11:45Tamla is in fourth place with 12 colour matches.
11:48But with just 11 matches, Katie and Ashley are joint fifth and have to battle it out in the...
11:54Tiebreak Chopsticks Challenge!
12:01It's tough but fair.
12:03Our brainies have just five seconds to engage their occipital lobes, the seeing part of the brain,
12:07and quickly work out how many chopsticks they see.
12:11Time to reveal the brainies' answers.
12:1335.
12:16The actual number is...
12:21So, Katie's answer at 35 was furthest from the correct number of 68 chopsticks.
12:26So, Ashley's in and Katie is out.
12:33Walk of Eternal Regret.
12:37I think it went wrong because I read the word instead of the colour.
12:41I didn't know where the colour was, so I was just kind of stepping on any colour.
12:45I think that everyone's got the chance to be able to get the black belt because they all did really
12:50well.
12:52So, with five levels to go, Angelica, Ashley, Cameron, Ellie, Wesley and Tamla have gained their orange brain belts.
13:01I'm so paced.
13:03I hope I could do this good in all the other challenges too.
13:06When we had the tyre break, I was really tense.
13:11I thought Katie might have beaten me.
13:13I'm really confident but I'm watching out for my cousin Cameron.
13:18Rain Teton!
13:22Brainy, not so brainy.
13:26Who's the clever clogs and whose brain needs a lot more training?
13:29The Gogglebox.
13:30What an invention.
13:31It's all down to this geezer from Bonnie Scotland, Mr. John Logie Baird.
13:35John was too ill to fight in the First World War, so he spent ten years tinkering with electronics until
13:40bingo!
13:41Bingo!
13:42He goes and discovers a way of sending pictures through thin air and TV was born.
13:47Truly visionary.
13:48Oi, look, it's John Logie Baird again.
13:51Did you know that before he invented television, he faffed around trying to make diamonds by heating graphite?
13:56That's the stuff you get in pencils.
13:58So, did it work?
13:59Did it ek?
14:00He cut off Glasgow's power supply.
14:02I agree, numpty.
14:04Brainy, John Logie Baird.
14:06Not so brainy.
14:07Not so brainy.
14:07John Logie Baird.
14:10Brainy, Jitsu!
14:14Pressure in Brainy Jitsu Dojo rising.
14:17Now, just six young hopeful remain to compete under watchful eye of She-Han.
14:22Angelica, first to enter dojo.
14:25Could be one to watch.
14:27Energetic Ellie, one last challenge.
14:29I thought I got some wrong, but I did it all perfectly.
14:33Tamla, nearly went out in first round.
14:38Ashley.
14:39I am really relieved that I must walk through to the next round.
14:45Cool Cameron, as laid back as they come.
14:48And cousin Wesley.
14:50I'm really confident now that nothing's going to stop me from getting that black belt.
14:54Challenge is about to get even tougher.
14:56Only two brainy will make final test.
14:58Table of supreme forecast.
15:00Where must move ball with power of mind.
15:03For chance to win, Brainy Jitsu Black Brain Belt is time for...
15:08Level 3.
15:09Quizlet.
15:11Now, we all like to chat, but did you know that using words to communicate
15:16is one of the main reasons why our brains have grown so incredibly powerful
15:21and that having a conversation exercises both halves of the brain.
15:26Allow me to explain.
15:29Think of it like a policeman guiding traffic.
15:32While the drivers are focused on their own individual journeys,
15:35the policeman, he has to control all the cars and where they're going.
15:40It's the same with the brain.
15:42There's the left half, which deals with the details,
15:44and there's the right half, which looks at the overall picture.
15:48This next level of training strengthens my brainy's focus
15:52by working one half of their brain under pressure.
15:55Hey, pump it up!
15:58Room of Mental Nourishment.
16:01It's our second visit to the Room of Mental Nourishment.
16:05Brainy's have a choice as to whether they take part in the training or not.
16:08But any extra training they do will help them with the next challenge.
16:11And for level three, it's all about communication.
16:15Brain training.
16:16Each pin a body part onto the sumo wrestler.
16:21Another brainy must direct the blindfolded brainy
16:26using only three instructions.
16:30So, Energetic Ellie gives Alert Angelica a spin
16:33before starting her instructions.
16:36Take one step forward.
16:40And bring your arms slightly down.
16:44And slightly to the right.
16:47Stick.
16:49Have a look.
16:54This training works both halves of the brain.
16:57The guider is using the right side of their brain to give instructions,
17:00and the blindfolded brainy is using the left side
17:03to listen and interpret those instructions.
17:05Terrible.
17:07It's not bad for the first try.
17:15Whoa, there, Tamla.
17:18Take one step.
17:20No.
17:21Put your hand slightly to the right.
17:23Hand down a little bit.
17:26Stick.
17:28That looks more like a moustache than hair.
17:31That's rubbish.
17:33Oh, hey, training tip time.
17:36Tip, use short, clear instructions.
17:39Imagine yourself hearing them.
17:42A bit of a step forward.
17:44Yeah, that's it.
17:46One of it, step forward.
17:48Just a bit.
17:49Now stick it.
17:50Ashley and Wes have made a good team.
17:55Put your arms up.
17:59And stick.
18:02And the cousins have done well, too.
18:05Turn it slightly to the right.
18:09And stick.
18:10But by the time our brainies have each had a turn,
18:13the sumo's body parts are more out of place
18:15than a pizza in a sushi bar.
18:17We made a good session for the boys.
18:19I think me and Ashley make a great team.
18:21And Cameron done good, too.
18:23No way, the girls are better.
18:25Totally, definitely.
18:27So, once again, the boys felt they outshone the girls.
18:31Wesley thought he made a good team with Ashley and Cameron.
18:35But who'll use their new communication skills
18:38to win the green brain belt?
18:39Hey, let's find out.
18:43Punch through number two.
18:46To this level, test how well our brainies can communicate.
18:49So, our six need to be in teams of two.
18:52The chopsticks will decide the pairs.
18:55So, there's Angelica and Tamla,
18:58Ashley and Ellie,
18:59and Wesley and Cameron.
19:01Who thought they made a good team in the trading?
19:03Quickly as possible,
19:05teams must punch six bucket
19:07containing number
19:08that go to make some.
19:10Pairs must decide who is Guider,
19:12who is Puncher.
19:14Puncher is blindfolded
19:15and relying on Guider
19:17to help find Bucket.
19:19When all six bucket punched,
19:21Brainy stop clock
19:22by shouting,
19:24Brain Jitsu!
19:25Quicker they punch Bucket,
19:27more time they have to pick up number
19:29and make some.
19:30When Brainy happy with answer,
19:33hit the gong!
19:34First two teams to work out correct answer
19:37will get green belt
19:38and advance to next level.
19:40One Brainy from losing team
19:42will be eliminated.
19:44The key to success here
19:45is for the Guider
19:46to use the right side of their brain
19:48to follow their teammates' progress
19:50and give them clear instructions.
19:53For their partner,
19:54it's vital they use the left side of their brain
19:57to focus on these instructions
19:59and nothing else.
20:03Take two steps forward.
20:05First to put their communication training
20:06to the test are Angelica and Tamla.
20:10Alert, Angelica, not so alert.
20:12That pause was bigger than a sumo's waistline.
20:15Punch.
20:16And Tamla's punching is weaker than green tea.
20:19You need to punch well
20:20and listen well.
20:22Harder, as hard as you can.
20:24Take one step to the right.
20:27Punch.
20:29Take two steps forward.
20:32Punch.
20:33But now they're on a roll.
20:35Angelica's right talking side of her brain
20:38is working well
20:38and her instructions are short and clear.
20:41Two steps forward.
20:43Punch.
20:45Move back slightly.
20:47Punch.
20:48Brain jitsu.
20:50They've finished
20:51and with one minute and 28 seconds
20:53it's a good effort.
20:55Go.
20:55Take one step forward.
20:57Take one step to the left.
20:59Punch.
21:01Cameron and Wesley made a great team in the training
21:03and they're doing well so far.
21:08Punch.
21:10Cool Cameron and cousin Wesley
21:12are both very laid-back characters
21:14but they need to have a bit more urgency
21:16and remember they're against the clock.
21:18Left back a bit more.
21:21Punch.
21:22They're struggling here.
21:23Cameron's instructions don't seem precise enough.
21:26Left back a bit.
21:27Punch.
21:30Left a little bit.
21:32Punch.
21:34Brain jitsu.
21:35They've finally finished
21:36with the time of two minutes and 12 seconds
21:38but their teamwork
21:40definitely wasn't as strong as in the training.
21:43Take three steps forward.
21:45Ashley made a good pair with Wes in the training.
21:48Will he fare as well with energetic Ellie?
21:50Punch.
21:52That's the first one down.
21:54Back.
21:56Left a little bit.
21:58Punch.
21:59Ashley's instructions are clear and concise
22:01and the listening left side of Ellie's brain
22:03is working well.
22:05Punch.
22:08Right a little bit.
22:10Punch.
22:11Brain jitsu.
22:12They're done.
22:13And with one minute 42 seconds
22:14they're second to collect their numbers
22:16behind Angelica and Tamla.
22:23Here are the numbers our brainies are looking for.
22:26See if you can work out the sum.
22:31All teams are back with their numbers
22:32but who'll gong last?
22:46Cameron and Wesley were quite a way behind the others there.
22:50Eight times five divided by two equals twenty.
22:53The answer is correct.
22:54But as the other teams have got their sums right
22:57and in a faster time
22:59Cameron and Wesley must go face to face
23:01in the...
23:02Stare off.
23:06With just one green belt up for grabs
23:08both brainies must use all their powers of focus
23:10to fight the urge to blink.
23:12The first to falter will be eliminated.
23:17Oh, it was so quick.
23:20Let's see it again.
23:25So, cool cousin Cameron is in
23:28and Wesley is out.
23:32Walk of eternal regret.
23:36I'm usually quite good at the song
23:38so it was just a pressure that slowed us down.
23:40I don't think my cousin will be feeling that bad
23:43that I've lost but he'll be feeling very happy
23:46so then he doesn't have to face me anymore.
23:49So, with four levels left
23:50it's green brain belts for Angelica,
23:53Ashley, Cameron, Ellie and Tamla.
23:57The training really helped with the task
23:59because it helped us to listen
24:03to what people are saying to us
24:05and to make sure that the instructions are clear
24:08so people can understand them.
24:09I'm feeling really, really shocked
24:12that I've got this far
24:13and I just can't believe it.
24:15When I was going against my cousin
24:16I thought I was really nervous
24:18and I thought I was going to lose.
24:23Brain T2!
24:27Level 4.
24:28Blue belt!
24:30This fourth level
24:31requires our brainies
24:33to master a primitive part of the brain
24:35called the amygdala.
24:37The area that responds to threat.
24:40Remember the last time you felt afraid or panicky?
24:43Perhaps you're on a ghost train at a fairground.
24:45Well, that feeling was triggered by the old amygdala.
24:49Stress can make you lose focus.
24:52Fact.
24:53Which is why my brainies
24:55must train to keep their emotions under control.
24:59Room of Mental Nourishment
25:03We're back in the Room of Mental Nourishment
25:05and it's time for our five green belt holders
25:07to focus on overcoming their fear.
25:11Brain training.
25:13Form a circle.
25:14Pass the disgusting drink around the circle.
25:17Only passing it on when you have said a different word
25:20ending with letter D.
25:21After one minute
25:22the brainy holding the drink has to drink it.
25:25Today's disgusting drink
25:27cod liver oil
25:28me favourite.
25:30I'll go first.
25:34Played.
25:38Jumped.
25:40Made.
25:41Dad.
25:44Dad.
25:47Focus on the word and not the drink, Ashley.
25:52Er...
25:53Four...
25:54No.
25:56Um...
25:57Sweated.
25:58I guess.
26:02The gong means a minute's up
26:03and alert Angelica has to drink.
26:06Oh!
26:09Ah.
26:10Oh, my God.
26:12E-yuck.
26:12Training tip time.
26:14Tip.
26:15Don't fear the drink.
26:17Welcome it as your friend.
26:20OK, I'll go first.
26:22Tried.
26:23Smelled.
26:24If you think of the drink as something nice like apple juice,
26:28you'll be able to focus on thinking of a word
26:30and not on how horrible it might taste.
26:33Now, cool Cameron's at it.
26:39Good.
26:40Look.
26:43Run.
26:45And Angelica, remember the tip.
26:52Cried.
26:54Pied.
26:56The gong means another minute's up and Tamla has to drink.
26:59Go on, Tamla.
27:04Oh, that's good.
27:07I absolutely hated it.
27:09I absolutely hated it.
27:09It just tasted all slimy and nasty.
27:13The drink stopped me thinking clearly, but I've got it in the end.
27:17I've always found the task harder than the training, and I found this hard, so I'm wondering how hard the
27:25task is going to be.
27:27So, Angelica and Tamla had to drink, but will they be able to conquer their fears in the next challenge?
27:32Quite a few brainies were guilty of pausing, so how will they fare with the creepy crawlies coming up?
27:39There's only one way to find out, as our five now put the train into the test to overcome their
27:45fear.
27:48Creepy Crawly Word Grab
27:50This level will test of mind over matter for brainies, and will push them to really overcome their fear.
27:57Underneath the creepy crawlies lie an assortment of letters worth different points.
28:01Brainies have just one minute to plunge hands into tank and pick out up to seven letters each.
28:07They then have a further minute to make higher scoring words they can.
28:14To do well, my brainies must block out the signals coming from their amygdala, and ignore the creepy crawlies.
28:21The quicker they combat their fear, the more time they'll have to pick out the high scoring letters.
28:30Brainies should dig deep, because underneath the cockroaches are an extra five golden letters.
28:35If they manage to use one in their word, they'll double their score.
28:44Alert Angelica had to drink in the training, and she really doesn't look like she wants to put her hand
28:49in with the bugs.
28:50But she's doing it anyway.
28:52In fact, all our brainies are overriding their amygdala as well.
28:56Tamla drank in the training too, but she's smiling now.
29:02The minute's up.
29:03Our brainies now have a further minute to make the highest scoring word they can from their letters.
29:11See if you can make a word out of the anagram that's on the screen now.
29:28So, how have our green belt holders fared?
29:32Dad.
29:33Five points for Angelica.
29:36Hope.
29:38A golden letter gets Ashley eight points.
29:42Six.
29:43Cameron scored with that one.
29:45Ten points.
29:48Leg.
29:50Ellie might need a leg up after that, because with four points, her place in the dojo all hangs on
29:55Tamla's score.
29:58Meets.
29:59Seven points, which means that Tamla is in, but energetic Ellie is out.
30:15The cockroaches, they smelled really yucky, and whenever I was trying to pick out a letter, they would crawl over
30:21it, so I'd have to wait till they move.
30:23I'm feeling really disappointed, and I wish I could have done better.
30:27So, with only three levels to go, Angelica, Ashley, Cameron, and Tamla proudly wear their blue brain belts.
30:35I'm very relieved that I got through, because when Sheehan came round, I thought she was going to pick me,
30:40but luckily she didn't.
30:41The training really helped me to overcome my fears, because I didn't really want to drink the cod liver oil,
30:46but I just went for it.
30:49Brain titan!
30:52Brainy, not so brainy.
30:56Who's the clever clogs, and whose brain needs a lot more training?
31:00Picture the scene, it's 1666, and this young chap, Isaac Newton, is catching 40 winks in his orchard, when Wallop,
31:08an apple, hits him right on the nut.
31:10But Isaac doesn't just yelp and rub the large bump on his curly head, he only goes and discovers the
31:15force that keeps our feet on the ground and the earth in orbit around the sun, namely, gravity.
31:20Apple-tastic.
31:21Now, take a look at this lot.
31:23Every year, they try and fight against gravity, as they hurl themselves off Bognapir.
31:28The rules are simple.
31:29Fly the furthest, and win a cash prize.
31:31Come on, son, you can do it.
31:32Oh, dear.
31:33Back to the old drawing board, I think.
31:35Brainy, Isaac Newton.
31:37Not so brainy.
31:38Bird brain, bird men of Bognapir.
31:42Brain jitsu.
31:46Tension in Brain jitsu dojo is mounting.
31:48As now, just four young hopeful remain to compete under watchful eye of Sheehan.
31:54Alert Angelica, first to enter dojo and strong contender for black.
31:59Cool Cameron.
32:00I'm so happy to be through and be at the top of the table.
32:06Tamla, flying under radar, but steadily making her way to finishing line.
32:11And team player Ashley.
32:13I really enjoyed that round.
32:16Only two brainy will make final test.
32:19Table of supreme focus.
32:20Where?
32:21Must move ball with power of mind.
32:23Brain jitsu black brain belt is within their grasp.
32:26It's time for...
32:31If you're learning how to Morris dance, then you might be interested to know that your new hobby is doing
32:37wonders for your old grey matter.
32:41Exercising both the thinking part of the brain, the cerebrum, and the doing part, the cerebellum.
32:47You see, doing new things increases the flow of blood into your head, which keeps your brain cells topped up
32:54with the oxygen they need to perform at their best.
32:57So, in level five, my brainy's are going to be challenged to learn new skills.
33:03Now, you can speed up how quickly the brain takes in new stuff.
33:07And this is what our brainy's are going to train for now.
33:11The room of mental nourishment.
33:16It's our brainy's fourth visit to the room of mental nourishment.
33:19And for this brain training exercise, they're going to be really working their brains by learning something new.
33:26Brain training.
33:27Spin the drumstick between your fingers for as long as possible.
33:32It's quite hard because one end's heavier than the other end, so it's harder to spin round.
33:37I think it's quite hard because when you're spinning it, you go towards one end sometimes, and then you have
33:43to try and flip it back and go to the other end.
33:47All our brainy's seem to be struggling.
33:49This training flexes both the doing part and the thinking part of the brain,
33:53as our blue belt holders need mental concentration to master this new physical skill.
33:58Who do you think's best at spinning the drumstick?
34:00Definitely not me.
34:02Well, I think I'm OK. I'm not great.
34:04Same with me.
34:05Same with me.
34:06Same with me.
34:07No-one's really doing very well, so here's a training tip.
34:12Tip.
34:13Be confident in yourself.
34:15Look in the mirror and tell yourself you can do it.
34:21This is easy.
34:22I'm going to win the black belt.
34:24No, you won't.
34:25A girl is definitely going to win this.
34:27Because, I mean, girls have more brains than boys, obviously.
34:30No, they're not.
34:30The black belt suits me better.
34:33Yeah, right.
34:34The confidence boosting seems to be bringing out the rivalry in the group, even from team
34:38player Ashley.
34:39Boosting your confidence really can help if you're learning something new.
34:42If you stay positive and tell yourself you can do it, you're much more likely to succeed.
34:47The black belt's going to suit me best and I'm going to win it.
34:51It's going to be easy.
34:53I'm going to win.
34:55And I look good in the black belt.
34:58Did you drop your drumstick out of protein?
35:00I think it was good in the black belt.
35:05I think it was good because it told us to look in the mirror and say things to ourselves
35:11to build up our confidence so that hopefully we'll be more confident for the next task.
35:16I think the girls are going to win this because girls usually use their brains more than boys
35:21do.
35:21You're useless.
35:23Girls are useless.
35:25Boys are better.
35:26No, boys are definitely going to win.
35:28You're alright.
35:30So, with two boys and two girls left, the war of the sexes has begun.
35:37The boys think they're going to win, but the girls reckon they've got it in the bag.
35:42But who'll be eliminated in the next challenge?
35:45Only time will tell as our four now put their new skills training to the test and compete
35:50for their red brain belts.
35:53Speedy trick is teary.
35:57To win red belt, brainy must use confidence training to help learn new skills.
36:03Racing against clock, they must steer car around obstacle course.
36:07But this brain jitsu, so controls in reverse.
36:12To go right, must steer left.
36:14And to go forward, must steer backward.
36:16With time penalty lurking along course, brainy's will need to remember training.
36:21Stay positive and get hang of tricky controls as quickly as possible.
36:27The tip for my brainy's in this next task is to remain calm and think positive thoughts.
36:35Giving in to frustration will only lessen their focus and slow them up.
36:42As the whistle blows, alert Angelica makes a steady start round the course.
36:48Angelica is staying calm as she makes slow progress past the blocks.
36:52She's taken a steady approach as she masters this new skill.
36:59All our brainy's really took the confidence tip on board.
37:03And Angelica is doing well to stay positive and not get frustrated here.
37:13The ball slides into the goal.
37:15Smoother than a greased up sumo on a water slide.
37:18But was it fast enough to get the red?
37:23Team player Ashley got his name after he excelled in the communication game.
37:28Can he do as well in this individual physical task?
37:33It's been a good run so far, but now he's having problems with the seesaw.
37:44He weaved in and out of that slalom easier than a samurai sword cutting through rice paper.
37:50A bonus goal for Ashley too.
37:52Can cool Cameron do as well?
37:59Cameron's been steady and focused throughout his time in the dojo.
38:02And he's taking the same approach here.
38:04The training tip was to stay positive.
38:07And even though Cameron is struggling a bit with the blocks,
38:10he's totally calm and focused.
38:16Cameron's mental concentration means he has no problem mastering the reverse controls.
38:26He's soon finished and he's back at the net with the bonus ball.
38:35In the training, Tamla said she was determined to beat the boys,
38:39but she seems to be stuck on the seesaw.
38:52And now the post.
38:54Tamla is laughing at her mistakes.
39:01It's good that she's staying positive,
39:02but she must focus more on mastering the reverse controls
39:05so that she can get the fastest time possible.
39:09With no bonus goal, was it enough to get her through?
39:12Time for the results.
39:18Angelica, two minutes, 47 seconds.
39:21No penalties and minus 10 seconds for getting the bonus goal.
39:252.37 in total.
39:30With no penalties and the bonus goal,
39:32Ashley's total time is one minute and 57 seconds.
39:36A good run.
39:39Again, with no penalties and minus 10 seconds for getting the bonus goal,
39:43Kool Cameron's time is two minutes and 16 seconds.
39:49Angelica's place in the dojo all hangs on Tamla's score.
39:52Three minutes, 10 seconds with no penalties,
39:55but no bonus goal either.
39:58So, alert Angelica is in and Tamla is out.
40:18I did find the brain training useful,
40:20but I don't think that I took it on board,
40:23so that's probably why my results came out like that.
40:26I think Angelica's going to win because she's really confident
40:28and she listens really well to everything.
40:33So, with only two levels left,
40:35Angelica, Ashley and Cameron stand proud in red.
40:40I'm feeling really happy that I'm pretty sure the last three
40:43and I think I'm going to win it for the boys.
40:48I think I'm going to be in the final and Ashley.
40:53I feel really determined because now there's only one girl,
40:57so I need to win this for the girls.
41:09It's this level which will decide which two of my remaining brainies
41:14will go on to battle it out for the black belt.
41:19Imagine you're about to kick a conversion in an important rugby match.
41:23As well as remembering your technique,
41:26there might be a strong wind blowing.
41:27Plus, there's a big crowd watching you.
41:30It's remembering stuff like this under pressure
41:32that level six is all about.
41:35It centres around three areas of the brain.
41:38The seeing part, the occipital lobes,
41:41the memory part, the temporal lobes
41:44and the movement part, the cerebellum.
41:47To the max!
41:50Room of Mental Nourishment
41:54With only three brainies remaining,
41:57this penultimate brain training challenge
41:59is all about improving your memory.
42:03Brain training.
42:04Memorise the sequence of objects.
42:06So in this task, our three remaining red belt holders
42:10are exercising their occipital lobes
42:12or seeing part of their brain
42:13and their temporal lobes, the memory bank.
42:16Who's going to go first?
42:18I will.
42:20Chicken.
42:22Bell.
42:23Eiffel Tower.
42:25Crocodile.
42:28And plastic scissors.
42:30Oh, I suppose I've done okay though.
42:33The snake, the orange sunglasses, the blue jar.
42:37You did really well.
42:39You were definitely better than me.
42:40Jar, poison, giant scissors, monster hand.
42:46That's it.
42:47I think Cameron done the best though.
42:50I think Cameron as well.
42:52So, Angelica and Ashley think Cameron was the best.
42:55Maybe the training tip will help them improve.
42:58Tip.
42:59Create a story linking the objects together.
43:01The chicken hit the bell
43:05and then the bell ran down the Eiffel Tower.
43:09Memory tests like this are a great way of training your brain.
43:12Why not make a story out of your classmates' names
43:15and see if you can remember them all?
43:17I'll try and remember my section then.
43:21The chicken, bell, Eiffel Tower
43:25and frog on the toilet.
43:28Orange sunglasses, fly hitter.
43:30They may not be saying the story out loud
43:32but they're all getting the objects spot on.
43:37Millet, snake, rat, monster hand, giant scissors and poison.
43:45I think we were all better this time
43:47because we could remember our story.
43:50I thought Cameron was the best because he did it faster.
43:54I'm not too sure who's going to win.
43:55I think it's down to luck.
43:57Well, I think that I need to win this one for the girls.
44:00I think I'm really confident.
44:02I think Cameron and me might go to the final.
44:05Cool Cameron was the strongest in the training
44:08and Ashley thinks he'll be facing Cameron in the final.
44:12Alert Angelica disagrees and wants to win it for the girls.
44:16But which two of our red belt holders
44:18will be fighting it out on the table of Supreme Forkers?
44:21Hey, let's find out.
44:24Super Memory Dizzy Dash
44:28Rainy is spin around on Dizzy Wheel
44:31total of ten times
44:32while using all power of focus
44:35to memorize five images in front of them.
44:38Then must race against clock to cross balancing beam
44:42and collect five images they have not seen
44:46from the ten hanging above them.
44:49Then must arrange in alphabetical order.
44:53When Brainy happy with selection
44:55hit the gong to stop clock.
45:00My tip for the Brainy's
45:02is to keep focused on the main objective
45:04and use their training
45:06to link the five images together.
45:09So, our final three brave the wheel
45:11to compete for the brown brain belt
45:13and for a chance to triumph
45:15over the table of Supreme Forkers.
45:17Time to spin.
45:19Will their training help our Brainy's
45:21ignore the effects of the wheel
45:22and memorize the images.
45:24Don't forget they must collect
45:25the five images they have not seen.
45:27The order they're looking for
45:28is at the bottom of the screen now.
45:36First up, alert Angelica.
45:38Angelica really improved in the training
45:40after the tip
45:41but has she made up a story with these images.
45:47Don't forget,
45:48not only are her Brainy's under pressure
45:50as they race against the clock
45:51but they also have to fight their dizziness
45:53to collect the five images
45:55they did not see on the wheel
45:56from the ten hanging above them.
45:59So, these are the images they saw on the wheel
46:02and these are the images they must collect.
46:06Then, they have to arrange those images
46:07in alphabetical order.
46:09Every image they get wrong
46:11means a five-second penalty.
46:12The Brainy with the slowest time
46:14will be eliminated from the dojo.
46:16She was quick
46:17but it looks like the dizziness
46:18might have affected her focus.
46:20Now, team player Ashley.
46:23In the training,
46:24Ashley said he thought it would be him
46:26facing Cameron on the table of Supreme Forkers.
46:28Can he use his training
46:30to make that happen here?
46:38Don't forget,
46:39this challenge decides
46:40which two Brainy's
46:41will go through to the final round.
46:43The table of Supreme Forkers.
46:54He's fast with the order
46:55and he's so excited to finish
46:57that he's not the go-over.
46:58And rightly so
47:00because he's got a full house.
47:03Finally,
47:04cool Cameron.
47:13Cameron was strong in the training
47:15both before and after the tip
47:17but as he made up a story
47:19to help him here.
47:24There was a boat
47:25with a dog on it
47:26but the dog hurt his eye
47:27when he was giving the flower
47:28to the monkey.
47:30The end.
47:32100% for Cameron
47:33but was it fast enough
47:35to secure his place
47:36in the final?
47:37Time for the results.
47:40Angelica,
47:41one minute 19
47:42and two penalties
47:43that's 1.29 in total.
47:46Ashley,
47:47one minute 27 seconds
47:48with no penalties.
47:50There's only two seconds
47:51between Ashley and Angelica
47:52but her place in the dojo
47:54all hangs on Cameron's score.
47:57One minute 10 seconds
47:58with no penalties
47:59which means that
48:00cool Cameron is in
48:01and alert Angelica
48:04is out.
48:11The walk of eternal regret.
48:15The brain training was useful
48:17but unfortunately
48:18I didn't use the tip.
48:21I didn't connect
48:22the pictures
48:23using the story
48:24but I think
48:26I've still done well.
48:27I think Cameron's
48:28going to win
48:28because he's been
48:29coming top
48:30for most of them.
48:33So with only one level
48:35to go
48:35it leaves just team player
48:36Ashley
48:37and cool Cameron
48:38to wear the brown brain
48:39belts
48:39in preparation
48:40for the final.
48:43If I win the black belt
48:44it will really
48:45boost my confidence.
48:46I didn't think
48:48I was going to get
48:48this far
48:49but I have.
48:51Now I want to win it.
48:55Brain T2
48:57Brainy
48:58not so brainy
49:02Who's the clever clogs
49:03and who's brain
49:04needs a lot more training?
49:06All the world's a stage
49:07and all the men and women
49:08merely players.
49:09Just one of the many
49:10great lines
49:10that came from
49:11the February pen
49:12of Mr. William Shakespeare.
49:14In total
49:14he wrote nearly 40 plays
49:16and 154 poems
49:17called sonnets
49:18and over 400 years later
49:20we're still reading them.
49:21Pretty impressive stuff Will.
49:23Your poor hand
49:23must have really ached
49:24after all that writing though.
49:26Ouch!
49:27About 100 years later
49:28another writer
49:29a French freezer
49:30called Jean-Baptiste Vivienne
49:31de Chateaubrun
49:32spent 40 years
49:33perfecting
49:34just two measly plays
49:35and if that weren't
49:37bad enough
49:37just as is on the point
49:38of finishing them off
49:39his housekeeper
49:40only goes and mistakes
49:41the manuscripts

49:43and puts the kibosh
49:45on his life's work.
49:46Oh gutty.
49:47Brainy Shakespeare
49:48not so brainy
49:50Jean-Baptiste
49:53Brainy Titsu
50:17Now I want to win it
50:18for my school
50:19and me
50:20and my granddad.
50:22And cool cameras.
50:23My family and my friends
50:25will be really proud.
50:26But who will use
50:27brain training to the max
50:29to win final challenge?
50:32Level 7
50:33Black belt!
50:35Black belt!
50:36So, this is it.
50:38Between my two remaining
50:39brainy's
50:40and the black belt
50:41stands brain jitsu's
50:43ultimate challenge
50:44a mental duel
50:46that is head to head
50:47in every sense.
50:49The battlefield?
50:50A table
50:51but not just any table.
50:53For this my friends
50:54is the table
50:55of supreme focus
50:57where our two brainy's
50:59will attempt to move a ball
51:00across the table
51:01using only
51:02the power
51:03of their mind.
51:05By getting this far
51:06they've already demonstrated
51:07mental control
51:09under many different
51:10types of pressure.
51:11But now
51:12they must learn
51:13to focus their minds
51:14by entering a state
51:15of total calm.
51:17To prepare them
51:18my two finalists
51:19will need to get into
51:20the zone.
51:22Room of Mental Nourishment
51:26We welcome
51:27team player Ashley
51:28and Cool Cameron
51:29to the final room
51:31of Mental Nourishment.
51:32For this task
51:33our brainy's
51:34must bring together
51:35all their training
51:36to achieve
51:37ultimate focus.
51:39Brain training.
51:40Mentally prepare yourself
51:42for the final task.
51:43Don't let the sounds
51:44put you off.
51:46So,
51:47our two finalists
51:48have to block out
51:49the noises
51:49and focus only
51:50on finding their
51:51inner calm
51:52and concentration.
51:54Cameron seems focused
51:56but it looks like
51:57Ashley is trying
51:58to distract him.
52:04I don't know.
52:05Training tip time.
52:07Tip.
52:08Breathe in slowly
52:09throughout your nose.
52:10Feel the passage
52:12of the air.
52:14Count to five.
52:15Breathe out slowly
52:17through your mouth.
52:19Counting to five.
52:20Repeat.
52:23Cool Cameron has now
52:25buried himself
52:25under the pillows
52:26to try and concentrate.
52:28But team player Ashley
52:30is still trying
52:31to get his opponent's
52:32attention.
52:37I'm going to fight
52:38until I win it.
52:39Let's just see
52:40what happens.
52:42Both brainy's
52:42took a very different
52:43approach to the training.
52:45Cameron hid under the pillow
52:46so he could find his focus.
52:47Ashley seemed distracted
52:49by his opponent's tactic.
52:51But who'll conquer
52:52the table of supreme focus
52:53and take the black belt?
52:55Let's find out.
52:57Table of supreme focus.
53:02Rules are simple.
53:04Each brainy must push ball
53:06to the opponent's end
53:07of table
53:07using only power of mind.
53:10Sensors in brainy's headbands
53:12measure brain waves.
53:13This is converted
53:14into electrical signal
53:16which moves ball.
53:18More focused mind,
53:19stronger signal
53:20and faster ball
53:22will travel.
53:23See how brainy's
53:24are doing
53:25on this readout.
53:27Two lines represent
53:28each player's brain waves.
53:29Lower the line,
53:30more concentrated
53:32their mind.
53:45To make sure
53:46this is the test
53:46of all tests,
53:47our brainy's
53:48must win the best
53:49of three rounds.
53:51So,
53:52this is the big one.
53:53Our two finalists
53:54must use all their
53:55brain training
53:55to enter their
53:56zone of absolute focus.
53:58This is the reason
54:00they came to the dojo.
54:01This is the moment
54:02they've been training for.
54:06The Sheehan starts them off
54:07and the mind race is on.
54:10Cameron is first
54:11to move the ball.
54:12His black line
54:12is flat and low
54:13and shows his focused mind.
54:15Ashley's green line
54:16is higher and more wavy.
54:18His mind isn't really
54:19putting up a fight.
54:20The ball is hurtling
54:21towards Ashley's end.
54:27Oh,
54:28so it's round one
54:28to cool Cameron.
54:30Can team player Ashley
54:31find his focus
54:32in the second round
54:33to even the score?
54:40Cameron's first
54:41to move the ball again
54:42but this time
54:43it's flying
54:44towards his opponent's end.
54:47Ashley's green brainwave line
54:48is high compared
54:49to Cameron's black.
54:53That's it,
54:54it's all over.
54:55Cool Cameron
54:56has used his training
54:57to the max
54:58to prove himself
54:59a true master of the mind
55:00and worthy winner
55:02of the black belt
55:03of brain jitsu.
55:04I'm feeling really great
55:05and it means
55:06a lot to me.
55:07I think it's really
55:08impressive because
55:09most of the tasks
55:11were really hard
55:11and I was able
55:12to complete them.
55:14I'm a happy man.
55:16Laura for one
55:18brings disappointment
55:19for another.
55:20He fought valiantly
55:21but now Ashley
55:22must leave the dojo.
55:26Quark of eternal regret.
55:29When I was doing
55:30the table of supreme focus
55:33I was just relaxed
55:35and I tried to win.
55:37I'm feeling okay
55:38because that's all
55:39I really wanted
55:40to get to the final.
55:47So team player Ashley
55:49was beaten in the end
55:50but it's a triumph
55:51for cool Cameron.
55:53He's remained calm
55:54and collected
55:54through all seven levels
55:56of intense brain training
55:57and a perfect performance
55:59against Ashley
55:59in the final challenge
56:01shows that he is indeed
56:02worthy to wear
56:03the brain jitsu
56:04black brain belt.
56:07I'm feeling really happy
56:08and this is where
56:09the black belt belongs
56:10on my head.
56:11The lesson that I've learnt
56:12from this whole thing
56:12is to be more confident
56:14because when you're
56:15doing the brain jitsu
56:16you have to be confident
56:17otherwise you won't get it.
56:19If I could describe
56:20this whole experience
56:21in three words
56:22it would be challenging,
56:23hard and brilliant.
56:25Our journey
56:26has come to an end.
56:27Another brainy
56:29has proven themselves
56:30worthy to wear
56:31the brain jitsu
56:32black belt.
56:33But while brain jitsu
56:35might represent
56:36the most extreme
56:37form of brain training
56:38its philosophy
56:39can be shared
56:40by all.
56:42Each and every one of you
56:44has it in your power
56:45to grow your mind.
56:47All it takes
56:48is dedication
56:49and practice.
56:51This has been
56:52brain jitsu
56:55and this has been
57:01Is it possible to
